funkymonkey - I would advise you to read as much as you can, as I said in previous post Ina May's books are very encouraging, and there are many more. But at the end of the day I think the most important thing is for you to feel 100% safe with where you are. For me that is being at home, but for many other's that means being in a hospital. Luckily you have loads of time to figure it out! My hospital is only a 5 mins drive away though.

stenogirl · 17/06/2010 10:15

CLB1 and berrycravings I?ve got the headaches too. They?re really strange and dull. maybe our sugar levels are low. Paracetamol doesn?t work for me. But the sickness is gone, thank goodness.
luckykitty Hello and congratulations on your first pregnancy.
MacMomo I ventured down the baby aisle at Asda for the first time ever, just for a peak, and it?s made me all goo-ey and a little scared at the same time.
splodge77 4 cup sizes....aye carumba!
I've gone from 38DD to 38F - bonkers!
littlehuman and superwoman25 agree with youse. Everything in moderation. I?m eating runny fried eggs and odd glass of red.
drivermamsstorytrain your scan sounds lovely
Hello sarrita sorry for your loss and good luck with this pregnancy. Don?t feel guilty about napping, you must need them.

We had our first scan yesterday. I was so frightened until the sonographer said "and there's the heartbeat. After that, it was lovely seeing the baby". NT is 1.3mm which we are happy with. I did the blood test too so we await that result. The big news, However, I've got a new EDD - 26th December, so I'm 12+4 weeks today. The perfect Christmas prezzie - yippee! I had already been lurking on the Dec2010 antenatal club for advice on NT scans etc but I think I'll stay on the January club cos I feel I know you better.
We then spent the rest of the day visiting friends who we hadn't told yet and so it was all hugs and questions. It's all sinking in now - bring on the 2nd trimester where I bloom and dare to dream!
Good luck and big hugs to everyone having scans

I was also offered a home birth, but I live in a ground floor flat and people walk right past my window so I didn't think it would be a good idea!

littlehuman · 17/06/2010 11:07

mamasunshine brittany was great , i was visiting friends that i havent seen for 5 years!
cat actually not that good(prob not reacting well enought to insulin)gonna have to take him bk to the vet next week face and annoyed face too grrrrhhhh!!!

pregnancy going well so far
homebirth would be great (main edinburgh hospital 5 min by car anyway...)

splodge77 · 17/06/2010 11:49

hi all, i've got my booking in appt next week and am in a real quandry about how/where i want to give birth. there is a new midwife-led birth centre attached to St Georges hosptial, Tooting that sounds great and i do like the idea of a natural, active birth but i also know that i'm a right wuss with pain and am a bit of a panicker by nature so wondering if i should just go to the main hospital (3 of my best friends all had epidurals and swear by them!) I'm a first timer so i've no idea what to expect. Any books or courses you can recommend that help you to think positively about labour and birth instead of being terrified?

Drivermamsstorytrain · 17/06/2010 13:15

splodge With my first I had a homebirth and while its not for everyone I found it wonderful. The homebirth website regardless of where you have your lo is a mine of wonderful birth stories and tips that will help prepare you. I also found the NCT happy birth day book an amazing source of information and comfort. But almost any book/course will help as with anything in life, knowledge is power, the more you know and prepare beforehand the better equipped you will be when the time comes.

Hopefully the link works! I have started a new stats thread - it seems to work quite well for the December ladies! So if anyone wants to update their details (just copy and paste) we have them all in one place - sorry if some people are still missing from the list - rushing it a but before DS wakes up! He is very excited as we are going on a bus without the buggy today so he gets to sit in a "big boys seat"!

Lovely weather in Newcastle today - we have spent the morning in the park and getting lots of washing dry!

Try this instead!!

HopingCatPlusThree · 17/06/2010 14:15

I've not really thought about giving birth outside a hospital, but I suppose I should consider it. DD was 24 hr labour, she was back to back, and was delivered by ventouse. Bit af a nightmare. So due to that history I had to go to hospital with DS. Nearly didn't make it there though. I was expecting another long labour so didn't race to hospital, but then got urge to push while I was still in bedroom at home! We just made it to hospital. DS was born 9 mins after we arrived. The MW said to me 'at least you didn't have him in the car park!' So if 1st labour was 24 hour nightmare, and 2nd labour was 2.25 hrs and was a really positive experience, what on earth will this one be like? If it is faster than DS I'll have to have a homebirth! Anyone know if labour gets faster each time?

maddyj · 17/06/2010 14:38

hello everybody..had my dating scan today my dates were right Im twelve weeks tomorrow so official due date now 31.12.10!! Drank so much water beforehand could hardly walk into the scan room. The women who completed the scan eventually told me to empty my bladder because the little one was so squashed s/he could hardly move. As soon as I emptied my bladder and came back s/he was doing backflips ha ha ha !!!Anyway feel relieved now I am actually pregnant it's not just my imagination!!Good luck to everyone having scans at the moment

HopingCatPlusThree · 17/06/2010 15:58

MaddyJ - I think a lot of people end up too desperate for the toilet to really enjoy their scan. It is surely better to drink a bottle of water 15 mins before hand and be comfortable. We are all told to drink 1-2 pints an hour before, but when I've tried that I've been unable to walk to the appointment I've been so desperate. This time I'm going to have a bottle beforehand and take one with me in case they tell me to have a bit more.

mamasunshine · 17/06/2010 17:05

During my homebirth last summer I was bouncing around the house on my birthing ball...in labour. All of a sudden on a Weds afternoon the gardener AND window cleaner turn up to do their bits I didn't know what to do and I'd sent dh out to buy sweets and DVD's (well prepared!) Luckily dh turned up before they'd really got into it and I made him tell them to bugger off!! I can laugh about it now

LadyBuzz · 17/06/2010 17:30

mamasunshine thankyou so much I am quite determined to go for it this time. After DS1 was born I had a horrible time coming to terms with the fact that either of us might not have made it through the labour - I had no clue about this at the time. With DS2 the hospital messed me about so much I ended up having an ELCS 3 days before my due date, It was as it turns out the best decision as I was such a horrific mess inside from the first time round if I had ended up with EMCS I would have ended up being cut both ways!
It was a lovely experience far far nicer then DS1 BUT I would very much like a natural one this time. I will have a look at those books you mentioned, I also have a VBAC hypnotherapy CD somewhere which I will try.

Lovely to hear people are having nice scans and strong heartbeats

lilllysa · 17/06/2010 18:08

Hi All!!

Not sure if this is the right thread for me cause IMO I'm due Feb but MW telling me Jan . . Guess I'll find out once I have my first scan (12/07/10)

I had my coil out on 09/04/10 . . Period on 11/04/10 . . Then got my BFP on the 16/05/10 (showing 1-2weeks preg). . Happened much more quickly than expected but YAY!!

Very excited and very worried at the same time

Hope everyone is ok today xx

Chica31 · 17/06/2010 18:32

Hi everyone can I join you?

Just come back from a dating scan and I am 7 plus 4. So I am due 30th January.

I am 32 and have a DD 13 months.

berrycravings · 17/06/2010 18:38

Hello to everyone and welcome to anyone joining us.
So glad scans have gone well for people the last few days, I can't stop thinking about mine (is on wednesday).
Headache has finally gone, hope that yours stenogirl and CBL1 have come to an end. I actually have felt good today, am starting for the first time, to think that I might be able to enjoy my first pregnancy (or perhaps this is wishfull thinking?)

I have a question which I feel a little silly about. Do I need to take my notes to my scan?

Is making it feel real hearing some of your birth stories. I originally wanted to give birth in a birthing centre, however we are only 5 minutes away from Eastbourne Hospital therefore I think to go 45 minutes away to the birthing centre would not make so much sense, especially as by DH does not drive. Hope I don't scare the cab driver when I need to get to the hospital!
I don't think I need to drink water before my scan, is this the same for anyone else?

mamasunshine glad you can smile about that story now, I don't know what I would have done!

lilllysa · 17/06/2010 18:44

Hi Chica31 and berrycravings

With regards to the notes the MW kept mine at my first appointment and told me that I would get them back at the first scan . . But I seem to remember with DD that you pretty much take them EVERYWHERE with you lol . . I'd taken them

littlehuman · 17/06/2010 20:31

maddyj your scan story made me laugh , i never knew that i was supposed to have a full bladder 4 the scan. so first thing i ve done when i got to the hospital was looking for the toilets and went for a pee...lol
the lady started the scan and said "you bladder is really empty", i just said i came bk from the toilets and she told me off ahahah( i didnt care i could see my LO very nicely on the scan!!!)she said i havent read the papers i ve been given(i did but i could not remember the bladder thing , anyway...)

birthwise i dunno if i am normal but i am not worried bout birth at all.what will b ,will b!

its a bit like this cycling ride i ve done for charity last year(cycling from glasgow to edinburgh and scotland is not flat!!)DH wanted to train for it,but i never, i just went for it! once we got dropped in glasgow with your bike , no choice you got to cycle home!bloody hard but so rewarding!
hoping birth is sort of the same feeling!

lilllysa · 17/06/2010 20:34

I'm so excited I'm already planning names and the birth and sorting round the spare room!! . . Talk about early days lol!

I've been told I'm shared care with a planned CSection but I want to go for VBac (DD was a very bad birth time ending in emergency csection)

mrsfrisby · 17/06/2010 20:52

Is anyone else starting to look a bit, well, chubby? It's not a bump as such, just a belly that looks like I have put a bit of weight on really quickly (although with the tyranny of the Hunger, I have been eating a lot).
Haven't seen MW yet so still feels a bit unreal, how exciting all those who have had scans. Will have to hold back from "What - you mean, there's a baby in there??!"

littlehuman · 17/06/2010 21:13

mrs frisby like i wrote in previous post,
i dunno if i look chubbier cos of binge eating or pregnancy... lol

littlehuman · 17/06/2010 21:13

CLB1 · 17/06/2010 21:50

Hi all,

It seems like ages since I was last here, was back at work this week but am so so tired and I am not sleeping at night. For the last 4 nights I have woken up at 3am and not got back to sleep and then gone to do a full day at work.
Had my scan yesterday, Bean isn't a bean anymore, it's got arms and legs and was very wriggly. Still nn Bean thou
No sickness anymore but still getting the dull headache but prob due to lack of sleep.
splodge77 I started to feel better just after 11 weeks, so hopefully you will to. when I went for my 1st scan the lady said that apparently your hormones peak at 10 weeks and then start to go down so should get better from here Fingers crossed. Same for you Drivermamsstorytrain and hope you do okay back at work
mamasunshine I know i was suprised at the weight loss too. I would have rather put on weight than have the sickness thou. Yes went back to work on Tuesday, just so tired all the time. We definately agreed the extra seat in the roof rack with the bungie thingies
superwoman Love the new name, suits you
HopingCatPlusThree I have invested in the basics, 1 pair of trousers, 1 jeans and some vest tops. Everything else will fit for a while as I usually wear dresses. Great news on the scan, hope everything goes okay
Funkymonkey I chose a hospital straight out, I don't like the idea of not having the help if needed. The women in my family have a history of very difficult births. I was asking about midwife led units and apparently in my area they are only man'd by a security gaurd at night and if they are full you have to go to hospital anyway. don't know how much is true but defo put me off. but like mammasunshine says, read up on it and choose which is right for you
stenogirl Its strange how paracetamol doesnt work, but because its only a dull pain its livable for now
berrycravings As far as I am aware you take your notes to all your appointments, it was the 1st thing they asked me for when I went for mine
mrsfrisby My manager told me she could see my little bump today, all I could think was I don't have one yet I seem to be having a bad case of constipation at the moment it has been at least a week so I think that is contributing
lillysa I have names already pick and know how the bedroom will be arranged too, its just so exciting to organise and it can take you the whole 9 months to find a name you agree on.

Welcome and congrats to all the new comers.
Sorry if I missed anyone, I promise I'll keep more upto date with the posts

superwoman25 · 17/06/2010 21:55
