i've heard of people stac but they're few and far between! i'd say your safe enough! hope your feeling better soon.
memphis thats ridiculous they kept you waitig that long.in normal circumstances its bad enough but the way you are now and after an op on top of it its not on.
dh i cant wait to be buying gender specific things! was keeping a very close eye on the scan yest eve but didnt spot anything!

beckyg123 · 05/05/2010 17:25

Just woke up from a wee snooze on the couch! it was lovely Someone said ages ago that they had been told to lie down flat for at least an hour each day (stac have a feeling it was you?) anyway due to swollen bits downn below and general fatigue i thought i should start doing that! Great advice- feel totally revitalised now

memphis sorry to hear your still so poorly hopefully the new pain meds will help- i think i would be the same as you and want to be at home. Also- doggy chat away! Glad your dog is doing so well now and stac hope that helps your aunts dog. My baby girl (a collie) is curled up at my feet just now- she really is our baby and is quite unsettled at the moment with the changes like cot and moses basket appearing- she has taken to sleeping in baby's room (i've put a big comfy chair in) like she knows to wait for an arrival! Wish i could sit her down and reasure her about the changes ahead and how she will always be our special girl!!! sad or what!!!

beckyg123 · 05/05/2010 17:29

Oh ment to say welcome back violet - you sound happy to be back online! its amazing how much we rely on it these days! How did you get on at baby show? Also do you know if aquanatal is on on friday? I went last week but it was cancelled due to strike

DesperateHousewife21 · 05/05/2010 17:33

stac I havent bought completely gender specific things but just liked the look of the blue changing mat more than beige.
The clothes we have bought are either white or in boy colours/themes. He better be a boy now! It looked quite obv on the scan at 20 weeks that hes a boy lol.

Oh hes just woken from his slumber from the feel of it, he just kicked my arm off my tummy lol maybe I was squishing him!

stac14 · 05/05/2010 20:38

Thats fantastic info memphis they didnt offer us any sheets for him. We were told we werent to take him back unless he was being sick all the time, losing weight or just seemed really bad as then he has no quality of life left. We are going to take him to our family vet to see if he will help more

OP posts:
beckyg123 · 05/05/2010 21:07

DH I think it is hilarious when baby kicks my arm off my belly! It usually happens when i'm writing a text on phone- must lean harder then and squash them! lol! it is so sweet to see tho

stac14 · 05/05/2010 21:55

kk yeah I think it is few and far between but just feels like some people like to give out negative opinions buggers lol, how have you been feeling?

becky yeah the physiotherapist told me to have at least an hours rest perday, which I find helpful.

dh I am stuck if lo is a boy as I dont have many gender neutral clothes lol. Have you tried the phone or remote on your tummy? Lo loves kicking at that

Feel a bit better, dp and I are sorted for the time being and the dog is going to the vets xxx

My midwife told me to fill in a kick chart from 28 weeks, noting when I'd felt 10 kicks each day from 9am. Seems a bit silly as so far each day it's been by 10 or 11am, but the baby still has quieter days after that.

I reckon my bump is quite small for 28 weeks because I'm tall, so don't worry, those of you with bigger bumps! Plus most of you are a couple of weeks further on than me.

I'm doing fine generally, I seem to be one of the lucky ones enjoying pregnancy. I'm trying not to wish it away - the whole giving birth and actually having a baby is really scary, whereas being pregnant is lovely - everyone is so nice to me and it's a great excuse to sit down, put my feet up and eat cake!

kkfairybrains · 05/05/2010 23:09

glad your feeling better stac.my cold is clearing up anyway thank god so feeling better today thanks! although i now have a new complaint............was introduced to a new friend today.....heartburn!!!!!!never had it before in my life and its killer! have drank nearly a full bottle of yucky gaviscon this eve and its not made a difference. hope i dont have it all the time now.
dh yeah them big kicks are funny! as if we'r invading they're space! they like getting their own way already!lol

DesperateHousewife21 · 06/05/2010 09:14

stac I havent put the remote on my belly but when I eat lunch its usually on the sofa and I put the plate on there and he kicks that, which is impresseive cos they are heavy, esp the big plates!

I think LO is still lying in a transverse position cos my belly looks really wide! Plus I can feel his head on one side and legs on the other lol. I do hope he turns in time though

Im supposed to be seeing my friend this morning, shes at her mums again, but Im ashamed to say I cant really be bothered as its a fair drive and Im supposed to be saving petrol I feel like I cant really back out now though.

Its nice and sunny here today though

memphis83 · 06/05/2010 09:34

stac i hope it does help with your aunts dog, glad everything is back on track at home!
becky its took a while for my baby (the dog)to deal with my belly i lifted my top the other day at my mums and her dog backed into a corner shaking, very odd! we have a futon in baby room for our dog, he kept going into a box and pulling out a baby grow and taking it to his bed, it was the one out of a pack of 3 that i didnt like so he now carries it around and sleeps with it! so cute!!
emster so glad your enjoying pregnancy, one thing i actually love is watching him move about!
my friend who is due this month is coming round today as i cant visit her at the mo looking forward to seeing a friend at last!!!

stac14 · 06/05/2010 09:51

emster your probably right bout your bump. Think mine is so big due to the fact that this is my 2nd and my muscles are crap lol

kk i had heartburn all the time from bout 6mths with ds, bloody horrendous. I would go to bed with a btl of gaviscon and a carton of milk. This time the gaviscon is on standby and i am drinking milk constantly. I think for me its cos i am quite small so baby pushes my stomach up causing the heartburn. Just think if you do keep getting it you'l have your lo soon and it goes away

dh i hate when you have made arrangements but can't be bothered. Maybe you could change it for another day. I think my baby just somersaults around at the moment lol. But i am defo having a c-s though.

Hows everyone today? All good my end, milo goes to the vet at 6pm tonight so hopefully they can help him. X

Hi everyone
Thanks for all of the 'welcome backs' Had my second growth scan yesterday and baby is developing on the 50th percentile curve, which is perfect! They're going to keep an eye on my blood pressure and I need to take more iron supplements cos Ferritin levels are too low (still!). Apart from that, and the evil SPD, back pain and inflamed rib cage, I'm glowing

I had a bit of a panic the other night when I realised that all of my research etc has gone into preparing me for the birth and that I have no idea what to do with the baby when he/she arrives. So, I have just bought The First Time Parents Book by Dr Miriam Stoppard from Amazon. Anyone else read this? I've heard mixed reviews about the Contented Little Baby Book so am avoiding that one for the time being.

I have caught up on all of your chat about 'the hospital bag' and will sort that this weekend. Only 8 weeks to go (if baby comes on time), maybe sooner if he/she is impatient!

Becky - I think aquanatal is back on tomorrow. I'll phone this afternoon to make sure. I went down last week too and was gutted when she said it was cancelled. I waited around for a bit in case you showed up cos we could have gone for a cup of tea in the café...but I must have left before you got there

Stac - Hope everything is okay with the dog. I hate it when my cat gets sick - they're so small and vulnerable aren't they? Oh, my sister has just bought a house in Croftfoot area, which I think is close to you in Castlemilk. Do you ever use Castlemilk library? I do research there sometimes

Hope everyone else is well - happy election day

stac14 · 06/05/2010 11:28

hey violet glad everything went well at the scan, the drop in iron levels is normal for some. Know how you feel bout aches and pains, its a bummer. Your sis is just down the road from me. I take my son to the library and the dog to kings park which is probs near your sis. Were are you? X

Morning all! (well its nearly afternoon!)

Agh violet i was running very late on friday- I took ages to get out of work so you prob had left by the time i got there! Cuppa would have been lovely tho Maybe tomorrow after class? Glad baby is growing well- you must be one of those people that stays nice and neat Could you see a big difference in the scan this time?

stac goog luck with Milo today- hope you get some help My friend was a vet nurse in one of the glasgow PDSAs and left because she couldn't deal emotionally with the lack of interest the staff showed! They always did minimal intervention Nothing abusive just lack of interest.

memphis hope you have a great time with your friend today it must be pretty lonely stuck in bed but worth it in the end when you hold your baby in your arms!

KK the heart burn is so sore isn't it! Gaviscon does work for me but the GP did tell me she could prescribe a tablet (sorry can't remember what it was called) if it stopped working.

DH what did you decide about visiting your friend?

LONG POST AHEAD...
I'm at home today and following a long, stern chat with myself about my excessive eating and weight gain i have decided to have a change of mindset and turn it around! I really could do so much damage over the next 9 weeks and really don't want to make life more difficult for myself after baby is born. I lost almost 3 stone while TTC (had gained a lot following MC) but was still about 2 stone over weight when fell pregnant. So will have a long journey ahead of me to get to healthy weight once LO is born.
Really just need to cut out the crap and junk food and get organised more with salads and fruit etc, all of which i love but can't get motivated to prepare!
Today has been a good start- prepared lunch and dinner for DH and I and have made a lovely tub of friut salad to nibble on through the day. Also spent some time on the Wii fit which i've not been on since november!
So fingers crossed i can keep the motivation going right through! Just need to keep reminding myself how much baby will benefit from this too!

Wow, sorry that was a long post but had to get it out!

kapars · 06/05/2010 11:57

Hi everyone,
Just had my 31 week appointment. The baby is no longer transverse and instead has head down and the big lump I have been feeling for the past week is baba's bottom! Baby's still to the side but is moving into right position. So just need my scan to see if placenta also moved and I'll be set for a natural labour instead of c-section.
stac on the spd question. My pain was initially all in my left hip but this weekend it was all in my left buttock lower back. Was still hobbling around yesterday but much better today so it looks like the chiropractor did his trick. He said it will probably come back again in a few weeks though but I just pop back to him if it does.
With your pain, they might not be able to manipulate exactly in that area!! but often manipulating elsewhere takes the pain away from the worst hit part.
violet I did the same thing and went the library yesterday to check out parenting books. I got the Gina Ford one to see what all the fuss is about and another one from Johnsons. I thought it they are any good I can then buy from Amazon later.
I have no experience of babies whatsoever (i have never even changed a nappy!!) so need lots of help and advice.

Hope you ladies have all been out to vote!

violetbubbles · 06/05/2010 12:06

Becky - I agree - it's so difficult to be good and eat healthily, isn't it? I just had to throw out a pack of watermelon (which cost me £3!) because it had gone out of date! I need to eat more healthily too. Got to eat more protein and less carbs...and be strict about upping my fruit intake. My DH makes me smoothies at night so that I can have them the next day. He puts all sorts in them - milk, banana, strawberries, plums, grapes, event satsumas It really does help me get my 5 a day. I'm trying to force myself to eat an apple a day too at the moment. The MW says my body will cope fine if I have a straightforward birth but if I need intervention and have any blood loss then my body is too weak to cope at the moment That just scared the hell out of me! A cup of tea tomorrow after class is a good idea - we can just pop to the cafe in the leisure centre!

Stac - I'm out East Ren way now - used to live in Mount Florida before the move. Still spend a lot of time there though...in fact I'm off to Langside Library in about 10 mins to carry out some observational research. Me, you and Becky should meet up sometime. If not before the the babies arrive, then definitely afterwards!

stac14 · 06/05/2010 12:51

kapars thanks for the info actually lol'd at the chiropractor manipulating my sore bit, think dp would have a fit lol. But your right they may be able to try something thanks hun. I got a free gina ford book with a parenting mag, i found it quite regimented for feeding etc but have kept it as there was some good info for sleep patterns and potty training. I think you'l pick it up no probs when lo arrives, mw try to help to.

becky i'm worried bout gaining weight too as with ds i gained bout 4st and it took ages to loose it. This time i am trying not to pig out as much, but think i will need to get into a diet and exercise when lo comes.

violet that would be great to meet up before or after lo's are born. I went to langside college, small world lol. XxX

was interesting reading people views on parenting book, i feel so prepared for birth and i now have every single thing i can think of to buy down to infacol and calpol, but i didnt actually think about once hes here dh has never gave a baby a bottle or even seen anyone change a nappy, ive changed a couple of nappies but not on a teeny tiny baby, think i need to make a purchase on amazon so ive got reading material on this after all ive got a lot of time on my hands
had to cancel my friend coming round, waiting for dh to come back from work to take me docs i cant keep anything down and am so weak, scared they will take me back in so trying to keep my mind active so i dont panic! LO is fine just so baffling why my body isnt coping with pregnancy!! so glad i can vent on here feel like i have to put my brave face on in the real world

DesperateHousewife21 · 06/05/2010 15:04

Hi ladies,

I feel a bit worried, LO hasnt really moved much today, I havent been overly active either. I have felt him a bit so Im not panicking yet.
Is he just having a lazy day do u think?? I know people will just say go to hosp if your worried but dont want a wasted journey cos I think he has moved at least 10 times, hes just not as active as yesterday.

Just a bit concerned, thanks

Wonderstuff · 06/05/2010 15:20

memphis sorry you are still feeling bad. I hope it gets better soon.

WRT parenting books - I had never held a baby before I had dd - tiny babies always freaked me out before I had her, now I coo over newborns
Anyway I found what to expect in the first year quite helpful - remember I was so scared to give dd a bath I put it off for about 2 weeks then had her in my arms and book in front of me following instructions. I had a copy of Gina, but quickly got rid - my baby just didn't do what she said it should and it stressed me out, some people NEED a routine - I find just responding to need and going with the flow suits me much better. Since I found mumsnet I generally post on here rather than refer to a book.

I am totally shattered today, and dd refusing to nap. She slept 12 hours last night, which is longer than normal and I got 9 myself, but I still fell asleep on the sofa for 20 mins this morning (while dd played and thankfully didn't get into any mischief) felt awful when I woke, hadn't intended to sleep, not really responsible parenting. I can't wait until I start mat leave, just so drained, got 7 weeks left. My iron levels are normal - think I will get some vitamins see if they help - my diet isn't brilliant - not awful but not really getting my 5 a day. Chocolate just seems so much nicer than fruit and veg. Should really go out for a walk, but probably going to veg for the rest of the afternoon...

stac14 · 06/05/2010 15:24

aww memphis you must be fed up huni, your right to try not to panic. I think regarding the reading materials that you can read loads on bringing up kids that is so irrelevant once they are here. Each baby is different whereas the books are set on a stereotypical child. You'll be surprised how much your instinct takes over. I read loads of stuff with ds and I ended up with pnd (not part of the baby books) so I had to learn how to cope myself. I'm not saying they are all crap just take it with a pinch of salt and dont put pressure on yourself to be perfect according to a book (soz waffling on as per) Let us know how you get on huni, you may just have a bug.

dh I have days were lo is less active and others were she goes mad, its only 20 past 3 by teatime lo may be going mad and you will be wanting a rest lol. Keep an eye on it and see how you feel. But if your really worried or cant settle then call mw, (iknow you know that lol) Are you feeling ok? Are you a bit anxious today?

OP posts:
DesperateHousewife21 · 06/05/2010 15:29

stac thanks for replying to my post lol I feel like Im always going on about LO's movements. I was feeling ok today but getting myself worked up a bit because of LO being so still.

In the past 10 mins LO has bounced around a bit which has reassured me. I will keep an eye on it for the rest of the afternoon/evening and if it continues like this til say tomorrow lunchtime I will call mw/hospital.

Chulita · 06/05/2010 15:56

dh I agree with stac, some days they just don't wriggle as much. If he's moving around I wouldn't worry about it, but obviously if you are worried then phone your mw. This little one has days when I barely notice it and other days when I'm wishing it'd keep still!

memphis I'm so sorry you're feeling so rough. You've had to cope with a lot recently so it's not surprising that your body's had enough. Painkillers can make you feel really ill too if you're still on those. I hope you get some rest and feel better soon!

I didn't read any parenting books, we just muddled through. I'm glad I didn't actually, I've since read GF's book and I'd have ripped my hair out trying to keep DD to that! (still would actually)

DesperateHousewife21 · 06/05/2010 16:39

chulita yeah he has moved around a bit so Im putting it down to him having a lazy day!

becky after reading your post about healthy eating, I find myself feeling so guilty all the time for choosing biscuits and crisps over healthier options and I know it sounds like another excuse but I dont really know what I can have as a healthy alternative. I know I should be eating fruit (which I do every day, apples, bananas, kiwis etc) but apart from that I cant seem to think things up.
Most healthy options are either expensive and/or go mouldy before I have a chance to eat the whole thing
