stac I know what you mean it is quite confusing but they say if LO kicks 3 times as in 'kick, kick, kick' then count that as 3 kicks instead of 1 'group' of kicks IYSWIM?? So even if they all happen really close together they are still counted as individual kicks.

beckyg123 · 04/05/2010 21:38

Baby back to being active again! Think it maybe got a fright too! Lay down on the couch for a while and all is well! Bottom of my bump still a bit achy but nothing serious i think!
Yeh stac just round the corner from tesco so in there a lot! lol! Can't believe you guessed- hee hee! Springburn not as bad as its ment to be either! I'm not from Glasgow (from Crieff in perthshire) but DH is from Springburn. When we moved here everyone said, oooh your moving there! Thats ment to be rough! Other than my neighbours i've never had any trouble! Typical that they had to move in under me!

KK glad to hear they were so thorough with you! and you got to see LO again! You feeling better now?

at the girls smoking at the hospital memphis although everytime i have been to our maternity you have to pass lots of pregnant women smoking- it does make me mad! But to have that kind of history is just plain selfish!

kkfairybrains · 04/05/2010 21:39

stac its just 10 kicks whether they're together or spread out. cos i got 14 while i was on the machine and they said that was brill as they only look for 10 the whole day.typical LO started moving once i was out there!
dh i think mine must have been just having a lazy day and that sounds like what yours is doing too! the doctor said the sound of the tracing machine stimulates them so that was why baby started moving while i was there!
have to admit with the smoking i didnt give up straight away .i only gave up a few weeks ago but i had cut down a lot but just found it so hard.but the main thing is i'm off them a few weeks now so im proud of me!

beckyg123 · 04/05/2010 21:47

Welldone KK and DH it must be hard with an addiction like that but you have done well- you have a right to be proud of yourself

DesperateHousewife21 · 04/05/2010 21:50

kk well done to you for giving up!! Its never too late, congratulations!

stac14 · 04/05/2010 21:54

becky theres nothing wrong with springburn, people make assumptions bout places. They definately do bout my area lol

Thanks dh and kk think they like confusing us lol

kk at least you gave up hun and made the effort to cut down. I know how hard it is to stop smoking. I had cut down to smoking when drinking so it was easier to stop when i found out. Wow i go on too lmao

Think the point that was annoying is the woman memphis was in hospital with lost 9 babies and although that may not be smoking related but she could tried

I've added a bump pic. I don't think my bump is that big compared to some - probably because I'm tall and there's more space for it to go upwards.

Sorry to hear you've been so ill, memphis - you take care of yourself!

violetbubbles · 04/05/2010 23:05

Helllooooo! I'm back online. After 25 long, boring days without internet I'm ecstatic to be reconnected once again.

I had my 31 week appointment today with the midwife and I'm being sent for another growth scan tomorrow afternoon and an appointment with a Consultant afterward to discuss high blood pressure and a few other things. Fingers crossed all will be well!

I've missed all of your chat so much. Hoping to catch up on the thread today and tomorrow. Hope everyone is well

stac14 · 05/05/2010 09:22

welcome back violet we've missed you. Whats the growth scan for hun? They still thinking lo is small? Let us know how you get on.

emster you have a lovely wee bump, wish mine was as neat. How have you been?

I'm a bit embaressed to put my bump pic on, mine is huge compared to all yours lol and i need to get dp to take the pic cos i cant fit it in lol. I weighed myself yesterday have put on bout 1st and a half. By the looks of it its all went to my belly

How is everyone today? I'm having a lazy day as my fanjo is still aching (soz tmi) so im going to watch crap tv and go to the shops later. Anyone doing anything later? X

OP posts:
DesperateHousewife21 · 05/05/2010 09:26

emster thanks for the putting your bump pic up its great! It is similar to mine in the fact that Im tall so I have a gap between boobs and bump so looks more sloped than rounded.

Welcome back violet!! Hope your scan goes well today, let us know how you get on

I was supposed to be seeing my friend today but she had to cancel so am going to stay in til lunch then go out and get a few more baby bits.

Jojobil · 05/05/2010 11:12

Hello

I've been reading all the posts - so many of them so quickly!

Glad to hear you are better Memp

Does anyone know where I can get a trial for re-usable nappies? There are quiet a few on the market.. I was told bumgenius are great and then the bamboo ones look great But I'd like to try them out first... Any suggestions?

Spirael · 05/05/2010 12:08

Hi all! Hope everyone is doing ok today. I'm having a reasonable day here... At work as ever, but just got informed by HR that I have an extra four days of holiday I wasn't counting on, due to bank holidays while I'm on maternity leave! Trying to work out now whether I can just be paid for them, or whether I have some more days off between now and June.

Jojobil, maybe try your local council website? Where I am, the council run a 'Real Nappies' scheme where you can either claim back £30 when you spend £50 or more on nappies or laundering, or you can claim a starter pack with a few nappies and liners. I've claimed the starter pack myself, so I can have a go with the reusables and see how I get on before splashing out large amounts of money on them.

I'm happy some of you were willing to share your weight gains so far. I've gained around 1.5 - 2 stone myself, fluctuating throughout the day. I was worrying that it seemed to be a lot so far, given that my book advises I should only be gaining around 2 stone in total! (I started on BMI 25.) But I seem to be running on around average with everyone else which makes me feel a bit better about it. Trying to eat healthily - plenty of fruit and veg - but also indulging more than normal. But then I figured if I can't eat the odd dessert at the moment, when can I??

Useful information about the movements! I haven't been counting (the MW hasn't asked me to, though she may at my next appointment on Friday) but I would have counted three movements in rapid succession as one movement, and potentially have worried that LO wasn't moving as much as they should!

Not that I've been given much cause for concern... To be honest I'm quite grateful that LO seems to be enjoying a quiet day so far today! I'm still feeling the odd squirm so I know LO is fine, but I'm not having my internal organs played like drums at the moment which is a blessed relief! It seems to go in fits and bursts... A few quiet days followed by manic movements!

I'm a bit jealous though of those of you able to identify body parts through the bump! I've not been able to identify anything thus far. I suspect however it's because I was a little more 'cuddly' than some before starting, so there's a bit more padding smoothing out the lumps. On the plus side, it means that my skin isn't quite pulled taunt despite the apparently oversized bump. I still feel like I have a bit more space yet! (But ask me again in a few weeks...)

kkfairybrains · 05/05/2010 12:34

thanks everyone! its been really hard t give them up but it is getting easier!
emster you're so neat! i feel huge now compared to everyone cos im a hell of a lot bigger than that!
dh im gonna try my best to get mine up this eve. keep forgetting when dp is home! i have to laugh so much at you when someone puts a pic up you really analyse the whole bump its funny! have to say i've a bit of an obsession with bumps too! and buggies! if i see someone preg im starin at their belly and im constantly looking at peoples buggies!
glad your feeling better becky.mine is bouncing around today too!
stac poor you! that sounds so uncomfortable! i've nothing planned as such! have a day off today so i'l prob just be lazy! gonna go to shop now and i'll see how i feel when i come back whether i'l clean the house or not!

DesperateHousewife21 · 05/05/2010 12:53

kk LOL I know its awful isnt it? I cant help staring at peoples bumps and comparing to mine which i know i shouldnt do Im such a saddo! Its turning into an obsession!!
Looking forward to seeing your bump though, expect a detailed analysation (sp?) from me!

stac14 · 05/05/2010 13:05

I must admit I love looking at peoples prams and do have the sneaky look at bumps. But I get annoyed when people stare at mine, I don't mean when someone has a look. More to the extent of gawping at it. Maybe I am just paranoid but I was always taught not to stare so find it rude. Wow i am a moany faced bitch today. Sorry ladies, have been fighting with dp, my aunt has told me her dog is going to have to be put down and there is something else up with dp's van aarrgghh!! No excuses i am just a whinger x

OP posts:
kkfairybrains · 05/05/2010 14:12

aw stac even you are allowed to have a bad day! yeah i hate when people really stare too it just makes me paranoid! but im a bitch for staring and not realising im doing it! i just love people watching! aw is your aunts dog sick? you get soo attatched to them.my mums dog is like her baby.don't know what he's gonna make of the baby when s/he comes to stay! hope you and dp can sort it out.its horrible to be fighting with them!
dh i wouldn't expect anything less!lol! i took one last week intending on putting it up and forgot so i'l have to take a new one this eve!although i dont think its really got any bigger the past week or 2. you have to bear in mind though im nearly 32 weeks so it'l be way bigger than yours probably!
welcome back violet! spireal thats great about the hols! you should maybe take a week at the end of this month and it'l break up the time for you

Jojobil · 05/05/2010 14:32

Thank you spirael - that was so helpful. My council gives a £ 54.14 boucher towards them and they have various events on www.realnappiesforlondon.ORG.uk where they show the different brands etc... Woohoo!

memphis83 · 05/05/2010 15:15

kk well done for giving up, luckily as soon as i found out i was preggers it put me off but when people pee me off i fancy a drag of one, stac is right that it was the womans situation that annoyed me more, losing al those babies then told to have bed rest as she had lost her waters at 26 weeks but was still always puffing away!
jojo thats great of your coucil, every council is different and we just get a weeks free loan to try them out but i dont fancy putting LO's bum in a pre worn nappy!
been at hospital for my appointment, they wanted to re admit me! but have told me to stay at home another week as im so low being at home with friends and family will give me a moral boost, plus more pain killers for the wounds from op, so i get to go back and sit for 3 hours waiting again next week, my stomach has lost an inch insize and i am now only measuring 28 weeks again but it hasnt come off LO so thats a plus!

kkfairybrains · 05/05/2010 15:26

aw memphis ur having such a hard time of it.really feel for you. well bthe plus side is you weren't kept in even though its not nice at all being on bed rest.hopefully everyone around you will keep you entertained and happy when they're around.totally know what you mean about that woman and thats what made it so bad. i just feel bad that i wasn't able to give them up straight away. but as dh said its better late than never!

stac14 · 05/05/2010 15:58

thanks kk the dog has kidney failure so its inevitable. Our own dog is the same as your mums he is such a baby so i must admit i am worried bout how he will be, but he'l just have to get use to lo.

memphis thats great you got back home. Why did they want to readmit you? Thats terrible that you have to wait 3 hours to be seen, especially when you are supposed to be in bed. They do things ass from elbow dont they?

Well dp's van is getting fixed and we have calmed down fighting. I had to tell ds bout milo (the dog) he is gutted, but trying to be chirpy as he has a big footy match tonight. Still in a bit of a downer but i will sort myself as soon as.

OP posts:
memphis83 · 05/05/2010 16:18

stac they wanted to re admit me as im still feeling like utter rubbish and they dont know why my stomach hurts so much still, by the time i was seen i was shaking like a leaf but back in bed again now with laptop!!! doc was really nice though he shook my hand and i jsu broke down and he held on to my hand while i just let everything out, just a shame it wasnt the dishy doc my dog got diagnosed with kidney faliure 3 months ago, they gave him 3 weeks but on new neds and a cooked diet hes put on weight and he is back to his happy lovely self so dont give up hope yet!

DesperateHousewife21 · 05/05/2010 16:23

Afternoon all,

Just got back from a shopping trip, had to cut it short as I started to get desperate for the toilet and there were none where I was which is a shame but I suppose it stops me spending money we dont have!

I bought a couple of all-in-one outfits for LO from Asda, they have cropped arms and legs so nice and cool for summer. I wanted to get a blue changing mat from Matalan but they only had the pink or beige one there so will have to wait for that.

Hope everyone else is having a good day.

stac14 · 05/05/2010 16:47

memphis can I ask what diet you use? the vet had said as soon as he was being sick and losing weight it was time to think of quality of life, (it was the pdsa) they also told us it was pointless giving him meds, the advice would be greatly appreciated. No wonder you were shaking like a leaf and feeling like crap when they have you sitting around for 3 hours hun

dh sometimes I think my bladder is the size of a football, but frequently need to pee when I am out. Have you bought specifically blue for lo? I went for pinks and girlie outfits

Has any one else met someone who knows someone who was told it was a girl but then they have a boy (always someone who wants to make you paranoid about the sex of the baby) I was told this in the butchers the other day, but I promptly pointed out that after 4 seperate scans I doubt they would have got it wrong and I saw little ones bits lol xxx

OP posts:
memphis83 · 05/05/2010 17:02

stac its the pdsa that i go to, they gave me a recipe sheet for a cooked protien diet, anything to wet their appetite you need to entice them with smell so boil chicken thighs or white fish (a lot cheaper in frozen section)with left over mash or rice and bit of veg, i alway add a bit of gravy, i also use a dry food they recommended burns chicken and brown rice its suitable for renal faliure, it sounds like a lot of work but i just add another spud and do it with our meal then it takes no extra time, i let it cool while i eat chop it small so its less strain on body, my dog put on weight in 4 days and after that they put him on a heart/renal failiure tablet and his blood and urine levels have improved, they originally said he wouldnt last the weekend but by the following wednesday the vet couldnt believe it was same dog, tail wagging strutting around, hes running round garden now, he couldnt walk when we took him in they say if they want to survive they will pull through its worth trying to get him to eat if he wont then he is probably too ill but our dogs levels were some of the worst they had seen, but tinned food is the worst thing for dogs with kidney problems, they have now said he could have a good quality of life for 6 months even 2 years, i hope this helps any other advice jusy ask. sorry for long post maybe i can get away with it as although it is mumsnet he is my baby and im his mummy
sorry to other mumsnetters for doggy talk!!!

memphis83 · 05/05/2010 17:04

stac (for record as well my dog lost over a stone in 3 weeks and we had to get new carpet he was sick that much but no sick now and half weight regained) i say my dog was putting 2 fingers up at vets who wrote him off
