Hey peeps

Hope you all had lovely Sundays. I know I'm miles behind on this one, but the thing with washing baby clothes etc, is that vast amounts of chemicals tend to be used in the production process, so it's always good to give them a wash, as there will always be residue which can cause irritation to sensitive skin.

I had a hectic but lovely weekend, lunching with friends, cinema and then visiting parents and both sets of in-laws for double bbq action.

we've actually come back with nearly all our baby stuff spoken for (even if we don't have any of it yet) I was given a huge back of re-usable nappies by a friend of my mum's, FIL and his wife are giving us their old cot (they're sorting out a new mattress of us) and a changing unit and whatever else they still have kicking around. Mum dug up some old clothes of mine from when i was born - she said 'they're yours, you might as well take them' and whilst most are 70s nightmares, there's a couple of cute crocheted things she made me which are adorable. And MIL has said she wants to get us something too, so we just need to write a list and figure out what's left to get.

So whilst nothing is actually ready it's all in hand, and actually it was quite nice spending a weekend just talking baby stuff and being told how amazing I looked blah, blah (even though I know people where just being polite.)

AND I had my first pregnancy symptom! When I finally took my 3 inch heeled boots off on Sunday evening, after a day of running around, MY ANKLES WERE A BIT PUFFY!! I was weirdly excited that I finally had something to actually moan about, even if it was gone half an hour later. I was feeling a bit left out as it seems pregnancy isn't really pregnancy if you don't have any symptoms to complain about - at least now I have one war story to share..

Had loads of scripts to read this morning, so I took them outside and sat in a deckchair reading them - I was a bit worried that I wouldn't be able to get out of it again. Meetings all afternoon, so better crack on and finish these notes.

You are so lucky Anifers!
I much more prefers the sun too MLIC even at 34 weeks;)

NorkyButNice · 24/05/2010 15:33

Can I be the miserable voice in the party who HATES this weather!?!

Our house is stiflingly warm, the garden is no better, and it's not a good combination with low blood pressure and constant nausea. Never thought I'd hear myself say it but I can't wait for it to get cooler!

Is anyone else suffering with insomnia? I've barely slept the last 3 nights and am feeling close to a mental breakdown as a result. And the baby just won't stop moving! A ridiculous thing to complain about, but I'm on the edge and the constant pokes and hiccups are about to tip me over

Sorry for the doom and gloom. Wish i could have a cold beer!

Jojobil · 24/05/2010 16:03

Poor Norky get a zero % alcohol Cobra It has no alc whatsoever and taste lovely. Do you have a fan? I find it really helps! I woke up at 3.50am this morning and found it very difficult to get back to sleep - it is too hot. On a bright side tomorrow will be much cooler. But I do hope it stays sunny - as it makes me happy

Sorry you're not enjoying the weather norky. Have you made the conscious decision to stay off alcohol? the non-alcoholic beer is nice, but also, this late in the game, I'm utterly sure there'd be no problem with you having a beer. I've been drinking since 3 months, not that that's a reason to drink yourself of course.

I've definitely been waking up WAY early, which is ridiculous, as I've been having really late nights too. The other morning I woke up at 5am after a not getting to bed until 1am the night before. There was no way I was going back to sleep so got up and cleaned the kitchen instead. I seem to be muddling through on little sleep thank goodness (and yes, I completely know how lucky I am not to be suffering.)

I've also got a non-stop wriggler. I know how waring it can get when you're just prodded and poked all day, but I try and just do other stuff to distract myself, or just talk to the bump and ask her what's going on in there, what's she up to, which sort of makes it more funny and enjoyable. I've also been desperately trying to catch some good alien type moments on video, for posterity, and that sort of makes it more fun too, as you're waiting for a good one, rather than getting worn out by it.

DesperateHousewife21 · 24/05/2010 17:04

It hit 30 degrees C here this afternoon! Ive been sitting in my mums garden with my feet in a tub of cool water which is just bliss as it makes your whole body feel cool

Im back at home now and DP has come home from work early which is a lovely surprise, but hes gone straight on the xbox

One of my friends from school is pregnant and shes over a week overdue now and shes def hot and fed up!

Gracie123 · 24/05/2010 17:08

Has anyone tried Koppaberg pear/summer fruits ciders?

They are absolutely delicious and they do a non-alcoholic one. You can get packs of them in Asda really cheap and they are very worth it.

Weather is soooooo hot! I love it, and DS is enjoying his new job of spraying mummies feet with the plant spray (they are sooooo swollen!) so we are all happy.

Ladies who have been very organised and packed your hospital bags, I'm not sure you are allowed sweets, or any food for that matter. I took lucozade and a subway sandwich when I went to be induced with DS (figured it might be a long birth as I was over due - and I was right) but they told me I couldn't have any and let DH eat them in front of me (I swear I'd rather have never brought them than have to sit and watch someone else eat them)!!

Apparently they don't let you eat once you have gone into hospital in case they decide to give you an em. c/s and you need anestheisa (sp?).

Nazi Midwives! Good reason to stay home as long as possible in my book!!

PMSL at no-one letting their partners near their toes. DH is very good like that. I'm a holistic therapist, so I taught him very early in the relationship that if he want a decent and professional standard massage from me he better be willing to learn and give something back He also learnt reflexology for DS birth and know how to apply fake tan (so that I get a nice even colour on my back.

[sigh] I guess I got a good one!!

Jojobil · 24/05/2010 17:16

Gracie I think it's only if you are induced and have an epidural that they don't let you eat.... It also depends on the midwife/hospital...

Jojobil · 24/05/2010 17:19

Anifer there is nothing wrong with an occasional beer. I think for preggers 1 unit a week is acceptable? Anyway I prefer not too. ;) I had a glass of wine a few months ago and just felt awful afterward. Everyone is different and every pregnancy is different. I had a huge craving for beer for a couple of months and 0% Cobra was just fine and I had a moment for peach bellini's, which I ad on special occasions. I think for my birthday I had 2, but felt sick as a dog the next day!

memphis83 · 24/05/2010 17:20

good afternoon ladies, its been lovely here, bizarre thing is ive probably spent an hour outside all weekend (much prefer sitting by french doors while our garden looks like a building site) and ive had factor 15 on and my shoulders are bright red! i read this weekend that if can get in sun with your bump out the vit d makes for a happy baby with stronger bones!! so get your bumps out in the garden
wwsw i bought one swaddle blanket from pumpkin patch as it was in the sale but ive just bought sone nice sheets to swaddle with after watching how to do it on you tube!!
norky i havent been slleping well either normally getting up between 3.30 and 4.30 but rather than try to get back to sleep which was making me miserable i just get up and get busy now i seem to be coping better on less sleep!
anifers i too have a non stop wriggler i talk to him all the time and also video the moving!! it does take my breath away but i will miss it when the only movements my tummy makes arent to do with baby

feeling so happy past few days i feel so much better in myself, i wore my new top i bought weeks ago b4 i ended up in hospital and my sister said i looked pretty!! (which is a big thing as we dont get on too well) and my dh says past few days hes had the old me back!!

You're not a failure MLIC!!!!

It happens to the best of us. I can't tell you how upset I was when 10 month old DS busted out of his high chair (I was on the phone) and when I turned around he was gone! I convinced myself someone had snuck in stolen him (front door was open to let the air in, so rather than look for him I just sat on the floor and cried!!

It wasn't until I heard a coughing from the bathroom that I could bring myself to go and look.

It wasn't great news (he'd eaten the toilet block) but certainly better than snatched!

DS (2) lets himself out of the house all the time by the way. Fortunately he can't do the gate yet, but I live in dread of the postman leaving it open one day.

Do you have a garden at all? Does your front door go straight out into the road? Maybe you could get a second latch or something put a bit higher up?

[virtual hugs going your way]

Jojobil · 24/05/2010 18:40

MLIC it did happen to all of us! My daughter somehow got into a toiletry bag, unzipped it and chewed on a thermometer. The glass type one with mercury! I got it just in time... I nearly had a heart attack and still feel unwell if I think about it. It was 2 years ago or so...
Hugs to you.

stac14 · 24/05/2010 18:41

hi ladies

mlic you are not a failure, things happen. When my sis was a baby (10yr between us) we caught her trying to climb out the window when we stayed 3 floors up, caught by the nappy, so understand how you feel, my mum went into shock.

norky just do what you need to feel comfy. I am not a huge fan of the heat, but appreciating feeling happier for a change.

wwsw very organised list, you've thought of everything. I haven't made up a labour bag as I am having a c-s also hadnt thought bout dp oops must get him a bag for the car lol

We went to ikea today got lo's storage, just need to get her clothes washed and put away. Still have no clue when decorating is getting down. Starting to think i may do it on my own. X

oo gracie really they won't let you have snacks? I wonder if that's a regional thing since St Michaels in Bristol weren't bothered last time with me. I did however turn up with dd's head crowning so I think they had more to deal with

memphis that's good to hear, I actually did brave sitting in the sun for short bursts late this afternoon and it was v pleasant. Not sure baby likes the bright sunlight though, there was a lot of wriggling and punching going on, you could almost hear the tutting!

mlic you are NOT a failure! Gawd, I can share several stories of maternal hopelessness, starting with the time I didn't close the back door properly and 9 mo old dd pushed it open and fell out head first, or the time I half asleep left my razor on the side of the bath and dd picked it up and cut her finger...or how about dd falling off my bed and narrowly missing banging her head on the corner of the bedside table....seriously, if you're a failure I'm bloody useless!

stac I think if your other half comes home and finds you painting / up a ladder you may well give him a heart attack and spur him into action! I wanted a big shrub moved in the garden. Waited 3 weeks so got the big spade out and did it myself. DH's look of horror said it all and he's done all the other jobs I've asked for since

Phew - all done for the day -I'm off home - another late one DH is already home, but at least that means I'll get dinner on the table for when I get in.

Had a long chat with our head of legal about nurseries. There's not many people with kids here (which is comedy for a children's TV company!) she was advising me to go and check out the nurseries now before the baby arrives and I go all illogical. She also recommended just spending the odd day in the nursery once LO has arrived, just to see how it all works and how they deal with the babies etc. Sounded like good advice.

MILC - ALL of my friend with kids have stories like that - I think it just comes with the territory. I can completely understand how you feel, but try not to blame yourself or feel useless.

anyway -that's me out of here.

NorkyButNice · 24/05/2010 19:54

mlic DS ran out of the front door a couple of weeks ago as I opened it (he's normally very good about holding hands and walking to the car) - he ran straight down the drive and out into the road...thank God that there were no cars coming as he'd have been hit for sure.

Someone was watching over him in that moment.

Thanks everyone else for the tips - I have indeed got a fan which is trained on me 24/7! Am wearing a skimpy sun dress which really doesn't suit the pregnant form but it's the only thing cool enough that I could squeeze into! It's definitely got cooler outside and in the house now though which is good.

Just been paid today so need to start making some purchases - crib, steriliser and bottles, a few newborn outfits...I feel totally unprepared and unexcited to be honest!

viksam · 24/05/2010 20:36

wonder and wicked Good to see u back on.
Work was OK in the end, just do find it very tiring at the moment as Im on my feet for most of the day.
The hospital bag list is ace, we need to add things to it if theres anything else anyone would take. I said the other day that i wasnt too worried about my hospital bag yet but since i said that i have worried myself so went out and brought maternity pads, bed cover protector mats and nipple shields, still dont feel prepaired but still telling myself theres plenty of time!!

I need some opinions, i have moaned about a feeling under my ribs for ages but now its turned into a really sore feeling, its there from around lunch time onwards constantly so its not baby moving, or at least i dont think so. Its got to the point now where it is painfull and I cant seem to shift it, i feel like i should see a bruise when i look at my skin, Anyone any ideas??

WickedWitchSouthWest · 24/05/2010 20:47

ooo much cooler this evening. It's going to be more seasonable tomorrow so I'm going to brave the city to go to Primark for some more cheapy things for me and dd to ruin wear this summer. Also need to get measured up for another bra, am becoming very large of nork lately and quite frankly my biggest bra is barely containing me

vik ouch that sounds dead painful. Could it be where your ribcage is moving outwards? Do you get an ache anywhere else around your ribs or shoulder blades at all?

I've made a gp appt for tmrw morning, am still having loads of discharge. (TMI) It's whiteish yellow, doesn't smell bad and is almost egg white consistency. V odd but there is loads of it to the point it actually went through my knickers and made a mark on my trousers the other day Can't be right can it? I had some spotting a couple of weeks ago and beginning to get a bit paranoid that it's the plug on it's way out...

memphis83 · 24/05/2010 20:49

milc what a shock, maybe your dh will invest in the gate now? must have been a shock to the system glad your finally all calmed down hugs to you!!
gracie what a horrid hospital not letting you have snacks! when i was in hoapital the other week, the night i spent on delivery suite one labouring woman and her husband had dominos pizza deliver to them!! so i know our hospital is ok with snacks!
jojo im with you with the less is more for your hospital bag, my bag isnt crammed full, i will be leaving a pile of extra things out in LOs room just in case i need to stay in longer, my only thing that isnt essential is my i pod and a travel docking station i bought for it as i cant plug them in on ward
landlord just phoned us were having a new boiler fitted tomorrow, been waiting a few weeks for it so ican then sort out airing cupboard and put all the baby bath/box in their instead of sitting them in the cot
temp hyas dropped here so looking forward to a cooler nights sleep hope its nice again tomorrow

viksam · 24/05/2010 21:16

I completely missed a whole page of this thread when i posted my last, my life that spunds alarming what happened but its good to listen to those who have previous experience of all things wonderfully scary,I must say im not entirley sure how on earth i will deal with the scary stuff like that, i have flipped out with things that the dog has done in the past so probably not well!
wicked No aches anywhere else really, this is like sore rather than an ache, its very weird, i can feel a lump there so it probably is baby, if it wasnt for that id be fine, its really doing my head in. Discharge sounds interesting, i have had a bit of egg white type stuff but not as much as you describe, better to get it checked out, are you ging to ur docs rather than the midwife?

WickedWitchSouthWest · 24/05/2010 21:24

vik mention it to your midwife next time and see what she thinks. DD used to occasionally get her foot stuck under my ribs and it really did hurt!

I'm seeing the gp, I've mentioned the discharge to the midwife on the phone before and she didn't seem bothered but now that I'm either changing my knickers or a panty liner 4 times a day, plus that bit of spotting, I'm going down the purely medical route. I'm even prepared to be swabbed . We've even abstained from sex for a couple of weeks and it's not got any better so it's time to get it checked out.

memphis the temp is definitely dropping, I'm on the verge of closing the living room window! Tis a bit draughty
