My DH painted my toenails for me last night - he did a pretty good job! I hated being out with my sandals on and seeing everyone else's nice toes and mine all unpainted...

Gracie123 · 25/05/2010 08:34

Vik I have exactly the same and had it with DS too. With DS the MW insisted it was a foot caught under the rib, but I couldn't believe it (too painful, and feels almost like burning sore, not at all like kicks!)

This time around I mentioned it to consultant who had a feel (very painful) and told me the cartilige between my ribs had torn. Apparently it's pretty uncomfortable but very common in pregnant ladies, particularly those with small rib cages and large babies.

It fixes itself, but when it's bad you can take paracetamol - it's not that effective, but it takes the edge off. The reason it gets worse through the day is probably as your inter-costal muscles (supporting the ribs) start to tire and the rib are allowed to move more.

Hang in there. It is painful, but mine was somewhat relieved immediately after having DS and totally better within 12 weeks.

stac14 · 25/05/2010 09:05

Morning all,

viks i have under rib pain which can be down to posture. Or were you have sat for a long time. Like on saturday we sat out the back on loungers and it war aching. I had a big baby first time round and was in agony with back, rib pain and loads of heartburn. I'm getting the same way again so thinking we have another biggy lol

wonder my mw said it was normal to have a lot of discharge, but know what you mean. When you at docs again bout it? Let us know how you get on.

mlic are you ok now hun? Did dh agree to a new gate? Hope your ok.

Who was it that mentioned canklets? Mine are huge and my feet are so fat they are begining to resemble pigs trotters with deep purple nail polish lmao. I have decided to get my sis's freind to wax me, give me a pedicure and maybe a manicure before lo arrives, i feel like a yeti.

Well its another sunny day, dp and i are on a hunt for a fan. Lo is happily bouncing around saying good morning. Whats everyone else doing? X sorry quite self indulgent post X

wwsw I have the same discharge that your describing, I also think I have slight pregnancy incontinance so both together means constant damp pants! I keep meaning to buy panty liners but I forget and end up having to change my knickers during the day.

Ive still got leaky nipples, Ive now had stuff come out of both nipples. I find it fascinating and have to really stop myself squeezing them to watch it come out! God Im a saddo!

The weather is rubbish here today, grey and not very warm, think I might go over and see my friend today.

Hope everyone else has a nice day

kapars · 25/05/2010 10:07

viksam I found this quite helpful re the rib pain
www.soulcast.com/post/show/349568/Ribs-Pain-Causes

Mine is at the back rather than the front and is like a permanent stabbing pain - which is a bit different from yours. But I just found it helpful to know that it is common and therefore not something to get too worried about. With these pains I always think I might be like this for ever - but it's reassuring to know that it should ease off after lo is out! This doesn't help at the time though as can be extremely painful.

I can't get my engagement and wedding rings off my finger as too swollen - just tried frozen peas but didn't work.

It's still lovely weather here. Hurray!

Anifersgirl · 25/05/2010 10:21

morning folks - lovely morning again.

I had the BIGGEST couple of prods from DD whilst driving into work the morning - made me gasp in pain and then laugh hysterically - I could feel a little foot or something poking out - so disconcerting!

Had a horrible dream last night that DH had been having all these affairs and I was packing my case to leave and he didn't care. I woke up really upset and a bit angry with him. When I told him, he was initially sympathetic, but then I had to admit that in the dream he'd been having an affair with Marie Antoinette and Fagin amongst others and keeping his business partner's wife in a tent in the garden so he could have sex with her on demand. After that he just laughed and laughed, even when I tried to insist that it was really upsetting at the time.

I guess it does sound a bit silly now...

memphis83 · 25/05/2010 10:24

morning ladies, a bit cloudy but still lovely here today, ive just had a chocolate for breakfast
interesting to hear about people swelling up, i had to buy smaller sandals and trainers as my feet have gone all boney, also i cant wear my rings as they just fall off!!
wwsw im having same discharge, started last week really bad, i must admit i 1st thought it was slow leaking waters at one point! not attractive at all!! when i visit mw there are always 2 assistants with her, both of them being extremely thin and attractive, and i always feel a little awkward bringing up things like this!! does anyone know if my mw will start examining me b4 LO arrives i havent had anything checked yet apart from bp, bloods and urine??

Spirael · 25/05/2010 10:26

Morning all! Not posted much recently (sorry!) so have a fair amount to catch up on.

Hope everyone is doing ok today. I'm finding it a bit of a shame that the weather seems to have gone a bit cooler again, but since I'm back at work today after a long weekend I guess I can't really complain that much. I'd rather the sunny weather waited until I've got my LO to take for walks anyway!

That's interesting that your iron levels were considered to be ok at 11, Chulita. Mine normally hover pretty low at around 13, probably because I don't eat a whole lot of meat. (Prefer veggie stuff, but not a vegetarian.) My pharmacist friend was surprised they were making me take iron tablets when my levels were 12 too, as apparently between 12 and 16 is pretty normal for females! Oh well, I guess I'll ask my midwife on Friday. I have a vague suspicion the receptionist probably told me the wrong figure, they've done that before, and I was probably down at 10.5 or something.

Also asked my pharmacist friend about the heartburn tablets and he basically advised not to take them at the same time of day as the iron - same as what you said, memphis. However he also said not to take Rennie for heartburn as they can cause problems with dehydration to the LO or something, and that Gaviscon is the recommended remedy. So guess I'll scrap the Rennie I got and switch to Gaviscon! Do they do mint flavoured tablets?

Attended my friend's wedding on Sat (in the sunshine!) and only got compliments about the bump and no really surprised looks that I still have two months to go. So that was a bit of a relief - hopefully it means I'm not going to be producing some kind of giant monster baby when my time comes!! Incidentally, there's a 31 week pic up in my profile now, DesperateHousewife.

I'm not struggling too much with breathlessness (unless I try and do anything particularly energetic!) but I'm getting rather bored of needing to stay within easy reach of a bathroom now. One tiny squirm from LO sends me scurrying to empty a thimbles worth out of my bladder! Not too worried it's a UTI, as it always happens just after LO moves so I'm pretty sure it's down to being headbutted.

I'm also getting a few pains on the right hand side of my ribcage, but they're pretty minor and occasional, so in my case I'm fairly sure it's a tiny pair of feet wedging themselves up there rather than anything to be too concerned over.

I'm kind of the opposite, in regard to wanting/expecting to appear as a yummy-mummy, Anifer. I'm wearing the biggest tent clothes and granny undies I can find and I'm eating mostly rubbish. Yet for some reason I've not gained weight except for the bump, my skin is the clearest it has ever been, my hair is thick and shiny and people keep telling me I look fantastic. Darn... I'll just have to try harder to be frumpy and unattractive-!

Funny you mention your dog is scared of the birthing ball, viksam! My cats are petrified of mine! Though I mostly blame my DH for that one... He keeps chasing them around with it in an apparent effort to recreate the boulder scene from Indiana Jones.

My hospital bag is pretty much sorted. I think I've acquired everything needed, I'm just waiting for some overnight/nursing bras to arrive in the post. I've gone for some of the low support ones that will cope with a variety of sizes for the first week or two and then for overnight. DH has promised me a trip back to Bravissimo when we go to City Hall to register the birth, so I can get some nice fitted nursing bras then.

My DH had to paint my toenails too, Emster, as my shoes for the wedding at the weekend were sandals. He did a pretty good job too, and even removed the polish for me for the day afterwards and trimmed the nails back! What a sweetie.

WickedWitch, I've had a lot more discharge over the last few days too. It's not a problematic colour or smell though, so I was mostly figuring it was probably due to the weather being warmer over the weekend. For example I've been drinking more, so figured that might make things a bit more moist, and also if it's warm then maybe my body was cycling through a bit more in order to make sure things stay nice and clean and fresh for the LO.

I started off with cankles (genetically inherited from my paternal grandmother...) so there's no change there for me. However, I'm loving the fact my feet are swollen - all my shoes now fit! I've got flat feet (genetically inherited from my maternal grandfather...) that are really narrow, so normally nothing fits me and I slip right out of most shoes unless I add a bazillion innersoles or somehow strap the shoes to my foot. However at the moment shoes are fitting me much better. Long may it last-!

I think I'm up to date, finally! Apologies for the epic post... Cookies for anyone who made it this far!

Gracie123 · 25/05/2010 12:22

Thanks for the cookie!!

Ladies with swollen feet - I forgot to mention that if you can convince your DP to give some foot massages it really will help. He should use fairly light movements, always towards your heart (the nodes that are going to clear that fluid are actually behind your knee).

I'm getting DH to use coconut oil (cheap as chips!) and a blend of peppermint and eucalyptus. It goes cool and tingly afterwards which also increase circulation and will help revert those cankles back to ankles!

It's not magic, but it does temporarily help. I definitely notice the difference the day after a good foot massage.

kkfairybrains · 25/05/2010 12:28

stac14 · 25/05/2010 17:43

Also have to wait in tomorrow for delivery from london but it have the physio at 1.15pm argh hope the gasman manages to come to the right house. How are you? Oh and also loving strawberries x

OP posts:
kkfairybrains · 25/05/2010 18:08

memphis i agree!you do have a problem!
stac did he say whether you'd need an antibiotic if it doesnt clear. i know your not breast feeding but it also said that if this happens its something that cant be treated and it wont affect breast feeding. id say you got a bit of a fright though?

Gracie123 · 25/05/2010 18:29

stac This happened to me when I was only 4 months pg with DS!!!!

My sister had her new born and I was spending a lot of time with her and it 'set me of' as the doctor put it. I had gone to see her convinced I had some kind of breast cancer because I'd never heard of breasts leaking!!!

Apparently the infection was to do with having the milk, but not getting rid of IYSWIM and I just had to hand express for a little while (I think about a week?) but I never got a temp or anything. Just felt a bit flu-ey.

I thought I was going to have to do it for the whole pregnancy, but I dried up a few weeks after leaving my sister alone

On the brightside, you are not far off having LO, so you could get ahead on expressing and maintain supply for LO. Also (when the bleeding stops) you could freeze some. It keeps for 6 months in the freezer, so if you don't get on well with BFing you could bottle feed that before moving onto formula.

Anifersgirl · 25/05/2010 18:43

Spireal you are making me feel so bad! You're only due the day before me and have everything sorted - our nursery is just big pile of boxes and dust! DH was reading the Rough Guide to Pregnancy last night (the only pregnancy book I don't want to throw out of the window) and suddenly turned to me and said 'it's happening quite soon isn't it! Perhaps we should think about getting everything sorted.'

Still, I'm not sure when - he's off on a stag do this weekend and I'm frantic at work and not due to go on mat leave until my due date.

Meanwhile - have people started their antenatal classes yet? Ours don't even begin until the June 22nd. DH pointed out that I'll be virtually full term by then!

Anyway, off out with my sister in law for dim sum, mocktails and gossip - one more night of pregnancy denial won't do me any harm will it?

stac14 · 25/05/2010 19:08

kk if it doesnt clear within 2 days i have to have antibiotics.

gracie thats a great idea but i don't seem to have loads of milk but i am trying to squeeze it out by hand its quite sore

spireal you and nursery look ab fab hun, wish i was as organised as you

anifers how many weeks do you have? I started ages ago but mainly because of my pelvic problems. You can do loads on the net, anyway thought you had your pram and stuff from others. Best thing is to write a list of what you have got and a list of what you need and it will all come together.

Hows everyone else tonight? X
