Big hello to Ja9 and Minnie, thanks for checking in on me. Minnie can't believe you're nearly 6 months, time has really flown - hope you're keeping well.

BunInTum · 02/09/2005 23:16

Hi all

My little bundle of joy arrived on 18th Aug - 7 days late.

After lots of frustration waiting for her to arrive I went for a sweep at 11.30am and went into labour at home at 8.15pm - only call me silly but I didnt realise it was real labour because by 8.30pm I was getting contractions every minute and thought it was supposed to start off with half an hour intervals. So took a bath to shave my legs and decided labour or not the pain was too much to not get pain relief. Left home at 9.10pm and got to hospital at 9.30.

Screamed all the way to hospital and ran in just in time as waters broke within 5 mins of arriving at birth centre, meconium in waters so had to be wheeled down to delivery suite instead. I climbed onto the bed and told midwives that I was going to have it right now, Midwife said "Oh my god you're right!" Baby Maylia made her arrival at 9.44pm weighing 7lb 8oz. No stitches this time which I was very pleased about.

Im still in shock from the speed of it, it all seemed surreal at the time but absolutely adore her.

Congratulations to everyone who has had their bubs and best of luck to all those that haven't.

Congratulations to all the new arrivals - good luck, Twiga - hope something gets going soon... I had my baby on 25th August - a week early - and had been having contractions for 48 hours without dilating. In the end, a lovely German midwife took pity on me (after hospital had sent me I'd have to wait a full week until my due date - despitet the fact that I couldn't even sit through a contraction, let alone sleep through it) and we got things going artificially. Syntoncin to kick start dilation, waters broken artificially - but although it all might sound like a nightmare - I'd do it all again in a heartbeat. Was best day of my life - and we've got a beautiful little peach of a daughter, Amelia, to show for it. Go girls!

k7, do you live in the north west?

Twiga · 04/09/2005 19:51

Just to let you know that I'm still here - regular BH but nothing much else. Still just relaxing, knitting and getting lots of hugs from dh - maybe tomorrow.....

bonkerz · 04/09/2005 20:15

Hi all, just wanted to pop in and say congrats to you all who have had your babies and those still waiting!
I was originally on this thread at the beginning but sadly lost the baby in jan at 12 weeks. Due date was 12th August BUT on a happier note i am 23 weeks pregnant now with a baby girl who is due in December.
Congrats all of you and hello to your amazing babies.

colinandcaitlinsmommy · 04/09/2005 21:15

Oh, sorry Twiga. I was hoping your silence meant you were busy doing something else. Sounds like you have a great DH.

Eulalia · 05/09/2005 08:04

bonkerz - how nice to hear from you. Congrats on your pregnancy.

Twiga - I thought you were off... never mind you'll get your knitting finished! All the best.

I had a hectic weekend. Boy its hard work with 3 kids... still we went to the beach and also swimming (first time since the birth) its only been 5 weeks but my bleeding had stopped and I wanted to get one last swim in before the open air pool closes.

tassis · 05/09/2005 08:18

see we were all checking in on you twigs!!

all getting excited at 2 days and no posting!!

Twiga · 05/09/2005 11:37

I wish...sorry to keep you in suspence...still nothing this morning

KMS · 06/09/2005 10:25

hope it happens soon Twiga. I know exacly how you feel. my 1st was 13 days late!
Thinking of you.

Twiga · 06/09/2005 12:02

Have managed to get my induction date changed from 11am Sunday 11th to 11am on Monday 12th, spoke to a lovely mw who understood the whole exam thing with dh and seemed to think that leaving things until next day would be fine and was around 90% dh would make it back up in time - he'd be home by 3.30pm from Edinburgh. Am feeling a bit happier about the whole thing as a result and am of course hoping that it won't be needed - i'd be T+12 at that point!

Rotten nights sleep last night - weather very close and muggy, awake every hour or so and just couldn't settle, still had a long lie this morning and have an easy day ahead! Hope everyone and their wee ones are doing well, lol x

Twiga · 06/09/2005 12:04

thanks KMS - best way I can describe it, is that it feels a bit like waking up on Christmas morning only to be told that Christmas won't happen until the following day IYSWIM?!

Eulalia · 06/09/2005 16:02

Twiga - you could put the induction off till the next day after your dh's exam if you are worried about the time. I put off dd's induction till I was T+14 and she was born the next day so was T+15 by then!

I didn't know they did inductions on a Sunday - I guess things have changed in the past 3 years.

Hope your dh does OK at his exam - he'll have a lot to think about at the moment.

jantogan · 06/09/2005 20:42

Cadmum · 07/09/2005 00:56

Twiga: I am still hoping that you can avoid the induction but that baby doesn't make an appearance while DH is sitting his exam...
Thinking of you...

colinandcaitlinsmommy · 07/09/2005 05:27

Twiga--hope you don't go long, but I like the 12th, DH was born that day.

Congratulations on the birth of your son, jantogan. Am looking forward to the details.

Twiga · 07/09/2005 12:32

Woken by postman this morning - he was delivering my cloth nappies! They're so cute! Bought tots bots with motherease wraps - have got half of them in the washing machine - will wash the rest once I know we'll get on with them ok (can return any unwashed/unused ones). Just need the baby to put in them now ...

Azure · 07/09/2005 19:46

Many congratulations on your little boy Jantogan. Twiga - best of luck, it has to happen soon.

Miaou · 07/09/2005 22:32

Twiga, I've got totsbots and motherease wraps - love them! We'll have to compare notes once your baby arrives

Twiga · 08/09/2005 13:05

Miaou, can't wait to start using mine although am a bit apprehensive about managing them/how easy other folk will find them, everyone's so used to disposables. We bought a mix of aplix and nippa - dh loves the idea of nippas but I wanted womething a bit easier for doing in the night when I'm half asleep! We just bought white ones as figured that they would end up covered by wraps anyway - love the animal designs on the wraps. How have you found them in terms of bulkiness on a newborn?

Off to meet my ante-natal group shortly - was hoping to be post-natal by now! Seeing mw tomorrow at 4pm and she is def planning to do a sweep then, feeling nervous about it. DH is back to work from tomorrow, it's been nice to have had the last fortnight together - he's off again for a few days after the weekend so not a complete disaster time wise. With the induction booked for monday it at least feels like the end is in sight, although still really hoping it won't come to that.

Hope everyone and their wee ones are having a good day, lol x

Miaou · 08/09/2005 14:27

Twiga, I've found them really easy to use, I've got all nippa nappies. I have to say I tend to take disposables if I'm going out , just so I don't have a big bag of dirty washables to take home! I've got size 2's and they've been great, ds was 8lb at birth so not exactly a teeny tot. However I did use biodegradable liners for the first month, instead of fleece liners, as they were a lot less bulky.

Twiga · 08/09/2005 15:25

We've started with size 1's - probably means we'll end up spending more than we could have done but figured we'll use for more than one so even if have to move up a size quickly should be ok. I was a wee bit worried about trying to figure out how to fold the size 2's down for a newborn - feels like there'll be a lot of new stuff to learn anyway! I think we'll probably use disposables on occasion too - easier when out and about/travelling i should imagine and probably what they were origenally designed for. Size 1's have got the fleece liners built in but I think we'll add a paper liner just to help deal with the whole breast-fed poo thing.

Really enjoyed meeting my ante-natal group this afternoon, lots of fun chat and sympathy. One of the lassies is in for an elective c-section next week so if I get to the induction stage we'll be in at the same time which will be nice - probably not same ward but they're all close together so reckon I could nip along and say hi. Feeling pretty shattered so am going to grab a coffee and read for a bit.....
