carrots, um thanks for the motivational talk on pelvic floor. You have further strengthened my resolve (and scared me quite a bit)... You know, for a second I just thought your friend had two placentas (strange)... I hadn't yet seen the freezer part, which is JUST MAD. Imagine moving hem out of the way so you can reach the chicken fillets for the dinner ... No, I don't see myself going down the road of placenta pills TBH.

fanny good luck with the tribunal. Totally shocking! BTW, are you going to freeze your platypus drink bag, to ensure that the drinks remain cold and refreshing? I certainly hope so - talk to honey - she'll see you right.

carrotsarenottheonlyvegetable · 12/05/2010 13:19

iggs I'm sure it looks smaller than it is on that photo .

witty Apparently she has a "placenta drawer" presumably so they don't accidentally get cooked for dinner. To be honest, it sounds kooky but she's fantastic and a brilliant mother.

CUNextTuesday · 12/05/2010 13:27

'Placenta drawer'

skihorse · 12/05/2010 16:29

hi everyone. The scan was amazing - he's amazing. He's measuring about a week big (30+5), 1.7kg(!), has his dad's nose, mum's ears and combined jawlines. He's definitely not Downs which tbh I'd stopped worrying about - we got treated to a 4D pic as he was in the "perfect position". I'm in lurrrrrrrrrrrve! Pic on fb - it's a bit blurry but will try and get a better pic up.

FannyPriceless · 12/05/2010 21:05

Awww ski that's fab!

switty I have no desire to forget the Platypus so no, I shall not be freezing it!

Cosmosis · 12/05/2010 21:57

Fanny that is genius idea re bladder!

Also thanks for tip re towels, I knew there was a reason I was hanging on to my old navy blue bath towel from uni [hoarder]

ski me and TGO are in awe of your pic. I am a little bit in adoration of the gorgeous Julian, and am soooo excited about our 4d scan now (3 weeks away).

We started NCT classes yesterday, I was about to come on and reveal all about the moving coccyx (tgo insists that's how you spell it?) and I see my thunder haz bin stealed.

OkieCokie · 12/05/2010 22:18

iggy you have a gorgeous bump. My weight gain seems to go on every part of my body inc bum, boobs, legs but you are just bump which is lovely.

Re pelvic floors all I can suggest is that you really need to pull in, far more than you think. From birth #1 my inner bits have moved somewhat, not quite prolaspe but certainly things (uterus, bladder etc) are not were they were before birth #1 hence a bit of wee often comes out when I sneeze. This was diagnosed at the post birth 6 week check. So, keep on with those pelvic floors ladies. I have discovered there is an op you can done have once you have had all your children that can put things back in the correct place quite easily so if birth 2# moves things more I think I want to have that! I don't want to be an old lady that smells of wee.

Re FJ, I am glad to hear it is now only me cunty. I had forgotten about this and for me it has a smell that I never had before. Thankfully this went once I had given birth last time - hope thie same this time.

Is this all TMI?!

Off to check out ski's 4d pics...

carrotsarenottheonlyvegetable · 12/05/2010 22:47

ski what a gorgeous piccie! We're off for one on Friday - can't wait now I've seen this!!!

Just seen Thirsk on Look North talking about their election. Took me back Ex and I lived between Thirsk and Northallerton.

CurlyCasper · 13/05/2010 09:19

ski your picture is amazing! I was discussing it with SFF last night and we're of the mind that having spoiled the gender surprise, we're happy to wait and see what she looks like. Won't stop me being in awe of all your 3D scan piccies though!

Loving the platypus idea but we might need a new one - during the move I found SFF's old one and it had turned a lovely shade of green on the inside...

First thing this morning, there was a foot poking so far out the side of my belly that I could almost grab it Judging by the hard bits, I think she's settled into a transverse position again, but we'll see tomorrow at the MW.

iggypiggy · 13/05/2010 09:51

Morning all!

ski your scan pic is amazing you can see what he looks like and eveything!

okie agree am all bump - is bit disconcerting tho cos I sat next to a girl due the same week as me and she is definitely smaller!

skihorse · 13/05/2010 10:08

Thank you everyone - well we were buzzing and gushing all night - and considering I'd woken up at 1:30am wednesday mornin we kept going until nearly 11 last night because we were both so excited. Jailbait keeps saying "well done" - but I figure I didn't do it all on my own! He's prepared nearly all the meals, he's looked after the house and he's rubbed my back and stroked my hair when I've been puking. A joint effort. We got a few photos and of course saw him on video on the monitor. The pic I've put up - I think I can see both of us in him, we've a black and white one where he's definitely me - but there were also shots where he was definitely dad.

As you know we only went in for the growth scan but because he was in such a great position she whipped out the other scanner and started waxing lyrical about how brilliant he was. I've also got a huge amount of amniotic fluid which apparently is very good. I'm looking forward to those waters breaking! Anyway, I asked all about the growth and she said he was well within any dangerous limits - I asked what would've happened if he'd been too big - apparently that would've necessitated a trip to the hospital to be assessed as to whether I'd be able to give birth vaginally or whether it would necessitate a sun-roof option.

Funny thing is we've actually got our real 3/4D scan in less than a fortnight anyway so we'll have even MORE pics!

Cossie I'm sorry for stealing your thunder! Tell us all about your class - did you meet any lunatics?

Cosmosis · 13/05/2010 10:33

Okie, just clean it with sterilising fluid, it will be fine.

No lunies ski, they were all nice.

Backinthebox · 13/05/2010 11:29

Lovely scan pic, Ski!

I'm with Curly on the buy a new platypus thing. I wouldn't be able to stop thinking about the green stuff!

The horse has another interview tomorrow. A dressage diva is coming to see him, but she broke her back 2 years ago and is now a graded para-dressage rider. Except she doesn't have a horse she can ride - she has a yard full of snorty stallions though! So she thinks mine will be just the ticket. The only problem is - how will she be able to see his bottomless pit of talents? Between the pair of us we make half a rider atm. I will obviously be able to demonstrate his standing by picnic table talents, but will not be able to demonstrate his walk to canter transitions and jumping ability quite so well. Anyway - the place looks lush, they even have stables painted in different colours depending on what mood the horse needs to be put in, as well as a bit of a horsey spa. So here's hoping he behaves.

FannyPriceless · 13/05/2010 11:42

cossie I'm v dosapppointed at the no lunatics report. I was hoping for some lovely loopy tales.

ski Daughter's waters 'broke' in a spectacular fashion. Obviously this was done with a scalpel by the surgeon, but when it happened it was like a fire hose gushed across the theatre and practically hit the back wall! Several theatre staff were hit and it drenched some vitally important piece of theatre equipment which someone then had to run off and replace! They all stayed remarkably calm.

My friend with GD is in hospital today for 2 days of prelim steroid treatment before the early c-section. She has to be in for this treatment as apparently there is a small chance she could go into a coma. But she stressed it's a v small chance so I'm staying positive for her.

Agree with boxy on the new platypus! Good luck with big horse.

CurlyCasper · 13/05/2010 11:52

for your friend fanny - sounds like worrysome times. Do you know what form of steroids she's having (IV, injection?) Just because I have been warned I might need similar (but doubt it judging by the size of the wiggler hurting me at the mo) and really want to find out how restrictive it is.

How are you doing today anyway? I hope you are not going stir crazy. May I send anything (virtual or otherwise) your way pour t'amusement?

OP posts:
rollerbaby · 13/05/2010 11:53

Wow Ski that picture is amazing. It's incredible the amount of detail you can see. You must be so excited now, bless. Iggs need to go and examine your bump. (sounds a bit weird that)I suspect, like okie described, I will be the shape and size of a small nuclear submarine and people will need to vacate the pavement as I walk.

Sitting here doing PF exercises, it's hard!!! How many times are you supposed to do them every day?

FannyPriceless · 13/05/2010 12:14

curls I don't know what steroids she's having, but she said the risk is because they can react with the diabetes / insulin. From what I understand, the reason she is in is for observation while she's having the treatment. If it goes OK she will have a c-section next week, but said the baby will prob have to go straight to SCBU as would be technically premature. But the risk of keeping him in now is worse than the risk of bringing him out.

What would trigger you needing the treatment? You are still on quite a few drucks atm, are you? I forget, as I think you had some reinstated mid way or vice versa. (Forgive my dimness.)

Thanks for offer of amusement. I actually have a big day today. I am getting my mane hair cut! I have it all planned out. Will take lots of painkillers. Will drive to Malton well ahead of appt time. Will hang around for one of the two on street car parks right outside the hairdresser to become vacant. That way it is only 10 steps to the chair! I figure it's my last chance to make myself vaguely presentable that I'll have for a while.

honey That depends. What level of incontinence are you prepared to put up with in the future?

CurlyCasper · 13/05/2010 12:52

oooh get you fanny. Very sulf-indulgent (my mane has not been professionally tamed in years!) Hope it goes ok.

I came off the disease-modifying drugs and then went on steroids. But they might deplete my natural steroid production, so baby's development could suffer. So, plenty of growth scans and the threat of baby-maturing 'roids for me! Sure it will be fine, I just want to know what others experience (hence a currently unanswered thread in Childbirth).

Hope all goes to plan for your friend's LO - and her. I take it the GD will cease once the baby has been born?

skihorse · 13/05/2010 13:02

I am having a total fucking spaz day. It's up there on a par with taking one's bikini bottoms off before getting in to the pool. I made myself a prawn sarnie for lunch and about a quarter of the way through it clicked that the prawns were in fact, fucking raw. What on earth is going through my pea-sized brain? It's like slicing up a raw chicken breast and then covering it with mayo, lettuce, tomato & avocado. Idiot.

fanny I've booked a hair appointment for mid june... I think that might be the last time in a while I get the chance.

boxer Clearly you should've taught him to respond to voice commands!

FannyPriceless · 13/05/2010 13:33

curls In most cases the GD goes after birth, but there is higher risk of it developing later in life.

ski !!?? Raw prawns? Oh you poor, poor dear. Never mind - knowing you they'll be safely vomited up before they can do any harm.

Are you going to start a new non-list? Please select Fanny's description from any of the following:

  • Her pelvis went menkul
  • She has wheels
  • The elderly one
  • or anything else insulting you can think of...
Due date 14 June.
carrotsarenottheonlyvegetable · 13/05/2010 13:36

just found out that Labour had put into the budget that employers will be no longer able to claim back all of the maternity pay that they are forced to pay.

I can't see this being good for anyone. Just forces so much on the employer that it will surely encourage them to avoid employing women of child bearing age...

[don't know what to think but rather peeved emoticon]

reginaMonologue · 13/05/2010 13:37

Hello everyone! Scan complete - all is looking good though I wont get the Nuchal results for over a week - what the hell is that about?! Pics not so great this time - notes say it's because of "restricted view due to increased BMI".... I say that's bollox, it's restricted view cos their equipment is shite (esp. since the private scan was crystal clear!). I do know however baybee is now 69mm long, almost twice as big as the 10 week scan! .

Anyway, I also signed up to the OSPREA research project into finding a test to determine the likelihood of pre-eclampsia in early pregnancy, so perhaps I've done my bit there. Again though I couldn't get in the Spiral 3D project (where you get to have oodles of free 3D scans) because of my BMI - meh! The research midwife did laugh when I told her that "fat chicks have feelings too you know..." . In fairness they were all lovely at the ultrasound clinic, makes me more confident about giving birth up at that there hospital.

Well, over and out for now. Glad that you're all doing ok except for ski who has taken to eating raw seafood... nice! I'm probably going to be under the radar until next week now as I've plenty of stuff to keep me away from the computer for the next couple of days what with visitors and parents and birthdays ensuing!

Oh, one final thing, I did go test drive some prams and I'm horrified to say that I probably will plump for an iCandy Peach - it really was the best of the lot and I think it'll suit our requirements well. Very agile and easy to put up and down and clip things in and out etc. Just a good job in-laws have offered to help with the cost!

Hope everyone has a super weekend!!

SkaterGrrrrl · 13/05/2010 13:38

Hope your friend is ok, fanny.

Step away from the raw prawns, ski. You can probably be arrested for that in California! Women have been arrested in the US for having a glass of wine with dinner, anyway.

Must. do. Keagal. excercises.

iggypiggy · 13/05/2010 13:54

I haz just falled on arse. ouch.

Cosmosis · 13/05/2010 13:58

POints and laughs at iggs
