I'm the only woman in my dept, and we've nickednamed one of the guys News of the World
I find the men I work with love their gossip. And the grapevine will go into overdrive when I tell them.

delhibelly · 18/05/2010 12:42

Hi, I've been lurking on here for what seems like months now and appreciating everyone's advice but now that the trousers won't do up and it's finally dawning on me that we're actually going to have a baby I thought I'd 'go live'.
I'm due 9th November with baby no 1. My husband and I are both British but we're living and working in India at the moment so it's really interesting to read what happens on the NHS (which is what my employer looks at to work out how much private treatment they'll pay for over here). Not having had a baby in the UK I've not got much to compare to but the private hospitals here are like hotels and it's lovely to be able to ring up and book a doctor or scan appointment whenever suits me - saturday afternoon madam? Not a problem. I suppose it's like being a customer rather than a patient. Still, a long way from home and it's nice to see what's going on in the real world. The wonders of internet shopping should see me receiving some decent maternity trousers soon rather than surviving in borrowed bump bands so can't wait!

Threelittleducks · 18/05/2010 12:45

Hellooo everybody

Been away the last 2 weeks as my poor Nana finally died in hospital, so have been dealing with all of that.

Loving bump/scan pics - very nice! My bump is nice when cradled in some matty leggings or jeans and supported, but without them it just looks flobbery. Damned c-section! Am jealous of your bump Hmmsleep!

Hope you are all well.

I am puggled - my son seems to have hit the terrible 2's 5 months early! Hooray.
Every day is some kind of challenge ;)

b00kw0rm · 18/05/2010 13:33

Hi all,

threelittleducks so sad to hear your news of your nana
welcome to dairymum, potbellybear, champagnesupernova, landb and delhibelly- apologies if I missed anyone else!
potbelly- I've told my boss and immediate colleague as I'm a lecturer and they were starting to plan the teaching for next semester... and my colleague was planning on basing himself at a university in Belgium! So I had to say something early just to be fair really. Didn't tell till about 20 weeks last time!
kawaiiko- it's great that you feel so positive about your tummy- I really struggled with DD as I just felt 'fat' rather than pregnant for so long and felt that people were judging me?! Definitely no proper bump here yet, not like hmmsleep, just look a bit wider!
Also, can empathise with all those with skin issues- mine is SO dry and flaky it's horrible! I wonder if skin problems is the defining symptom of the second trimester?

nomoremagnolia · 18/05/2010 14:32

Sorry to hear about your Nana Threelittleducks
I've not been on for a few days and the thread moves so quickly! Off to catch up now.

umf · 18/05/2010 15:00

Hello to all the new people!

So relieved! Scan showed one very wriggly little wriggler - 13+1, due 23rd Nov (I think). Friendly, kind sonographer (actually midwife) doing the scan - so much nicer than previous experience in London. She was v relieved she wasn't trying to do the nuchal measurement, because moving around far too much. No wonder I can feel it.

So happy to be officially pg! Lots of people know, because I'm too poorly to conceal it, but still.

Hope very much that I'll feel re-energized now and will get on and finish my thesis so can have viva and do corrections before popping.

Sorry to hear about your Nana, threelittleducks. I hope she was well looked after in the last days.

Heard today that yet another friend also expecting her second, and after some difficulties. Very happy news.

CardiCorgi · 18/05/2010 15:11

Sorry to hear about your nana *threelittle duckspotbellybear it's always the men who are the worst, isn't it? That's why I've put off telling my colleagues - I can't stand the thought of them all gossiping about me. My boss knows, but is sworn to secrecy and I told the colleague in the next-door office today, she was really nice and said that she had wondered if anything was up, but reassured me that nobody had said anything and that you can't see a bump in my work outfits.

Russia was very interesting, I'm glad I got the chance to go and I've brought back some vodka to be sampled in November and red caviar, which I think is ok to eat now.

Bump bands and extending my trousers look like the solution for the time being and I'm also on the look out for longer t-shirts or tunic-style tops. Oh dear, maturity clothes, does this mean I finally have to grow up?

nomoremagnolia · 18/05/2010 15:12

What a lot of catching up!
Hmm love the bump - very jealous as I would love to have such a neatly defined bump, I just look podgy, though in mat trousers and a mat top I have a bit of a bump. Haven't worn both together yet (except trying them on), but have been in mat trousers for the past few weeks, though I have been bloated since starting the IVF drugs back in Jan, so there was very little chance of me getting away with normal clothes.
My boss at work is a good friend and has known about the pg sine the beginning, in fact she knew about the IVF, so from pre-pg. As soon as I got into work after the 12 week scan my boss made me tell everyone else so she didn't have to keep it a secret anymore!
Bit late in the discussion now but we're going to wait for a surprise rather than find out if baby's a boy or girl. At the moment we're using a pet/nickname for baby which is gender-neutral, it's helped us to avoid calling baby 'it'.
I gave in and have ordered a doppler - I hope it helps put my mind at rest rather than causing more worries - anyone got any experience of using them?

Booboobedoo · 18/05/2010 15:36

Sorry to hear about your nana, ThreeLittleDucks. You must be feeling very sad. Did you get to show her scan pictures before she went?

Sorry also to hear about all of you with skin problems.

Weirdly, mine is great atm. In fact, I was discharged from the Dermatologist this morning, as pregnancy just clears it all up. So that's one good thing this baby is doing for me!

Weighed myself again a couple of days ago, and have lost a couple of pounds. I suppose it's because my sickness has largely stopped now, so I don't have to constantly eat. Very relieved.

I'm going to see if there are any sling-meets near me soon. Really want to choose a lovely one. Planning to practice putting it on with one of DS's teddies.

harmonyb23 · 18/05/2010 15:59

Babybean, yes I am on facebook. My name is Becky Hale so you can feel free to add me if you want (and anyone else can if they wish too!) It might come up saying that I am on the Bath Spa network but that's only because I went to uni there.

So sorry to hear about your Nan, Threelittleducks.

PrivetDancer · 18/05/2010 16:21

Hi nomoremagnolia - I've got a Doppler and found the heartbeat last week (at 12 weeks) was very cool, had to ring dh so he could hear it over the phone too

4madboys · 18/05/2010 16:31

afternoon all

sorry to hear about your nan little ducks.

i am slighlty jealous of all you with bumps and maternity clothes, i am still in normal jeans and they are loose as i have lost weight, still feeling sick and tired, LOTS of headaches, i find from 4pm onwards i just feel sicker and end up with a horrible headache and the only thing that helps is to go to bed.

on a note, after the scan yesterday i went shopping today and the babygrows i saw a while ago in blooming marvellous were still on sale, £7:50 isntead of £15! so i got two, soo cute, one says 'give peas a chance' and has the peace symbol on it, all written and drawn in little peas! and the other one says locally grown, organic. they are soo cute and totally unisex, i wanted them as soon as i saw them but wanted to wait till after the scan and so chuffed they were half price

re clothes, i have lots of clothes from whitestuff, there tops are long and they do kaftan or dress style tops, that look good, i find them ever practical when running around after the boys, they hide a bit of a mummy tummy well and the cut is always good, so they will be my wardrobe staple for the next few months and the cut means that my bump, when it arrives will look like a bump ifykwim?

righyt i have to go as i have my nuchal scan in an hour, fingers crossed it all goes well xx

nomoremagnolia · 18/05/2010 16:34

That's great that you heard it at 12 weeks - the midwife wouldn't even try at 13 weeks in case she couldn't find it. I decided to get one that records to the computer so I can send DH a file of it, seeing as he's missing all of the fun bits of pg

nomoremagnolia · 18/05/2010 16:37
Vix7 · 18/05/2010 17:05

hmmsleep, you've got a cute bump at 16wk! my bump seems to become more prominent late in the day, tho not as big as yours.

I've long given up trying to fit into my nonpreggy bottoms as most if not all of them are slim cut and not much give. it's rubberband looped over jean buttons and underbump trousers already!

did an old wives preggy sex test and it points to a boy. tho that probably means when i do get the 20week scan it will end up a girl! we'll see....

have told immediate boss and couple of colleagues and they are all squeeeeeeing! big boss comes in this week and not really looking forward to telling him as i suspect he'll throw a hissy fit!

Any Londoners have experience with doulas? am thinking of getting one to help post birth.

Babybean1 · 18/05/2010 17:32

Have just added you harmony I'm Rachel Tadman....profile pic is predictably of my scan incase you wondered

Please feel free to add me too anyone else

Glad you had good scan news madboys and hope
nuchal goes ok!

Sorry to hear about your nan threeducks.

Right.....off to MILs now for her birthday! Mmmm cake

Threelittleducks · 18/05/2010 17:36

Thanks all for the wishes

It's so nice and very much appreciated (blub!)

She was very comfy in her last days, although very agitated due to the pain from the cancer. And not to mention of course that she was a very stubborn lady who fought for her last breath (so hated being confined to a bed despite her frailty).

She had good days and bad days near the end and we weren't very sure what she could see/hear but we did show her the scan photo and she was very interested in it. I wasn't going to show her in case it upset her, but I am so very glad I did. She really saw it and although she couldn't say anything she gave me this massive long stare....oh it breaks my heart.

She loved kids and had such a special relationship with my ds, it's good to know she saw the next one too We were with her when she died, which was hard, but she was peaceful at least. I'm gonna miss her so much! She was an old bugger but I loved her dearly.

PrivetDancer · 18/05/2010 17:52

Sorry to hear about your nan
nice that you got to say goodbye to her though and she saw the baby.

A lovely friend gave me a bag of maturity clothes to go through this morning, so I've now got heaps of pairs of trousers. Not to mention a huge bag of stuff from last time still in the loft.

Rinnyx · 18/05/2010 17:53

Oh other facebookers

I am on there far to much, I'm Diana Searle is anyone wants to add me, my profile pic is of me and my DP (the chinese dude haha)

But just to let you know I am not saying anything about baby as I dont want certain family or friends knowing, just going to wait til its here and then post on my FB

PrivetDancer · 18/05/2010 17:56

babybean I have just added you in fb, on my phone so couldn't put a message saying who I was

PrivetDancer · 18/05/2010 17:58

Will add you and harmony too

Rinnyx · 18/05/2010 18:07

Oh question before I have the joys of cooking has anyone used the site preciouslittleone?

I am thinking nearer the time maybe useing them and kiddiecare to get the last of the things I need and lower prices than other places online or in store

Ebb · 18/05/2010 18:11

I don't have a bump - I have a flump! ( A flab lump! ) I was talking to a shop assistant in M&P and she was huge! I didn't think she had long left but she wasn't due til Oct! She was a tiny thing though. All baby. I'm all padding at the moment and already planning to demand membership for Slimming World as a 'push present!'

It's my baby boys birthday today. I can't believe it's two years since I had him. He's so grown up and independent. Times flies!

4madboys · 18/05/2010 19:17

hello ladies, my scan went fine, amazing how much detail, i have a fantastic picture of the babies leg and foot with the little toes! they checked the heart, stomach, kidneys, arms legs, hands feet, the umbilical cord etc and there were no signs that anything was wrong, the nuchal measurement was fine, so we just have to wait for the results of the blood test which take two to three days, but the consultant didnt see anything that would raise concerns

got loads of pics, one of the feet one of hands etc its so amazing that the baby is so small yet perfectly formed

the only problem was with me, i have CRAP veins and the consultant really struggled to get any blood out, ended up getting it out of the back of my hand in the end and i have a nice bruise now!

RINNY ihave usedthe site preciouslittleones and they were fine, i also use kiddicare, stairgates, carseats etc etc have got loads from them and htey have always been very good.

for really big purchases like pushchair i tend to go to john lewis, they always price match and their customer service is always good.

i recently bumped into a lady at the boys school and she remembered that she sold us our pushchair from john lewis when we had ds1, TEN years ago and she could still remember his name! she has two of her own now and still works their part time and always remembers us when we go in

4madboys · 18/05/2010 19:18

oh the other thing we HEARD the heartbeat at the scan, fantastic, so LOUD and veyr fast 160beats per min, that was fab
