Hi all. Thought I would get the new thread started before the old one got too full! Thanks to nomoremagnolia for the title

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
rollerbaby · 16/05/2010 20:12

Gaga I am DEFINITELY finding out. I don't understand the wanting the surprise really... I think it will be nice to bond with the baby beforehand and get stuff for the room etc. That said, I have no patience so I don't think I could even if I wanted to!

hmmSleep · 16/05/2010 22:00

Haven't decided if I want to know the sex yet or not. I didn't with dd and ds, but then in Edinburgh you were only given the 12 week scan, so unable to find out unless you go privately anyway. DH doesn't want to know this time either, so will probably go with that seeing as I'm not really bothered.

I have a friend who was told she was having a girl, and out popped a little boy! Bit of a shock all round, so try not to buy too many gender specific things, they can get things wrong! A midwife friend told me she has even delivered unexpected twins with mothers who had been given scans!

shoppingstar · 16/05/2010 22:01

Gaga do you think the facial helped?

welcome to the November chat dairymum

Sabie · 16/05/2010 22:57

Hi all,

haven't been on for a while. The bump is definitely showing now but have only put a 1lb according to the scales and haven't been sick. Hope all is ok in there!

I am definitely not going to find out the sex, think it might be different if you've had kids before but I really don't mind; just want a healthy one

have a good week....

hmmSleep · 17/05/2010 08:00

Morning all!

Have posted photo of my 16 wk bump here

Actually don't think it's that big, would be interested to hear if other 16 week bumps on here are of a similar size?

Have put a picture of a dress I've bought for a couple of weddings I'm going to over the next few months too. It's from the Plumo sale section, but they don't let you link to specific items so put it there instead. It's not maternity but fits rather nicely over a small bump. Not me in the photo if you hadn't already guessed!

cluelessnchaos · 17/05/2010 08:22

Hmmmsleep I a m just past 14 weeks but your bump is way bigger than mine I will try and remember to take a pic in a couple of weeks to compare

rollerbaby · 17/05/2010 09:49

Oh my god I have no bump in comparison and also 16 weeks! I just have mini pot belly!!!

Babybean1 · 17/05/2010 09:58

Hi all, sorry havent posted for a while!

Wow hmmsleep i thought i had popped out loads (am 16 weeks wed) but not nearly as big as you.....are you sure you only have 1 in there?

Will take a pic on wed and try to work out how to include a link (usually not too bad on computers but wouldnt hold your breaths!!)

Were not going to find out the sex, think i'd like a surprise, and like you say hmm they may get it wrong anyway! Did waver a little when out looking at things to buy as there are nicer things for boy or girl rather than either, but think we'll wait!

Have my bloods for downs screening on wednesday and will be able to hear the heart beat (well i damn hope i will!!)

Same as you gaga and shoppingstar. Really hoped the spots during the first few weeks would stop at 12 weeks, but doesnt seem im that lucky!

Good luck to all with scans this week, and hello to all the newbies

Am trying to practice how to connect to a pic by making a link to my scan pic......at a bit of a loss! How did you do it hmm??

Or anyone else that knows

Kyuri · 17/05/2010 10:38

Morning!

Thanks for the pic hmmsleep, I'm 16 wks today and am definitely cultivating more of a pot belly than a bump, but think if you've had previous pregnancies you show earlier (first one for me)? That said, I did make my first maturity purchases on Saturday (2 pairs of trousers) and am so much more comfortable at work today now that I have a stretchy waistband. ALL trousers should be this comfortable

Is anyone else feeling a bit uneasy about how the little bean is doing? After the MW appt last week at 15+1, I have no more appoitments till the 20 wk scan. The first trimester symptoms have more or less gone away at this stage (apart from spotty face, I'm with you ladies!!) and am not feeling movement yet so 5 wks seems an awfully long time to wait before checking that everything is still OK. I know I'm probably just being paranoid but feel like I need more regular reassurance!

We've decided not to find out the sex, but it's our first so we'd both like the surprise. Might make a different decision on subsequent babies as I can also see the fun in planning.

comtessa · 17/05/2010 11:00

shoppingstar I know what you mean about the bad skin - but mine's really dry and flaky (eurgh!). And I've got eczema on my thighs which I haven't had since I left primary school. Good old hormones!

I am really looking forward to the glowing phase and just hoping that it really does happen and isn't just a myth to get us through the first trimester! Hope everyone else is doing well, I've just got into work (talk about getting away with murder!) so had better get some work done...

xxx

dairymum · 17/05/2010 11:05

Kyuri you are not alone. I am almost 15 weeks and haven't seen anyone since my scan at 10 weeks. this is my third baby, but it makes no difference. i still worry. I've felt flutters, but didnt feel anything til much later with my first, i think anyway, it seems a long time ago as she is 7.

We didn't find out with our first 2, am only considering it this time so dp can get used to it if its a girl. If it's a boy i might just keep it a secret from him too. He hates hospitals so i won't be making him come to the scan.

blondecat · 17/05/2010 11:08

Fenouille I have two cats so did a lot of research on toxo.

You can only get it from cat feaces (and only ones over 24 hours old), so as long as you didn't handle the litter tray you should be OK. If you want to be extra safe wash your hands after stroking the cat.

Scratches can get infected easily and take ages to heal so just use some anti-bacterial stuff on them.
Oh and there's cat scratch disease but that's very rare.

Also for toxo - wears gloves when gardening and don't eat salads in restaurants unless you are sure they washed them properly. You need to ingest the parasite to get infected

4madboys · 17/05/2010 11:45

hello ladies, just back from my scan and all is fine, one baby measuring 12wks and four days so my due date is the 25th november

i am pleased to have seen the baby, but it still doesnt seem quite real!

i had to see a consultant as well as ihave had big babies, he made me when he started talking about a c section if baby was 10lb, i pointed out that ds4 was almost 11lbs and i delivered him fine in the birth pool. he also wanted me to have an actively managed labour with syntocinon during the first stage (slightly higher risk of bleeding as i have had 4 babies before) but again i said i have NEVER bled very much with the others and i delivered the placentas naturally without syntocin before and i would rather see how things go during labour. he was a bit at me and wrote in my notes in capitals that i have refused a managed labour and syntocinon. i shall chat with my midwife about it all when i see her at 16wks but feel happy with my decision

rollerbaby · 17/05/2010 12:30

4mad what a dick he sounds. What is it with people that write in capitals? I think you are doing the right thing - why will syntocin put you at less risk? That sounds a bit odd to me but then I haven't had 4 babies...

Kyuri I know what you mean, and worse my scan isn't until 21 weeks! I'm telling myself that by the time that happens I will be over half way and definitely on the home straight... You could always go and have a private scan if you felt the need... I suspect you'll begin to feel little kicks soon (I haven't yet) which might make us feel better!

hmmSleep · 17/05/2010 12:31

A link to your photos here Babybean. Very cute scan pic!

All you do is go to your photo page, copy the URL at top of page, paste it here and link as normal. (tells you how underneath the smileys). Sorry, that was a terrible explanation, thank god I'm not a teacher!

Glad the scan went well 4madboys!

umf · 17/05/2010 12:47

Glad to hear good scan news!!

Wow 4madboys what an annoying consultant!

Dreadful skin here too. DS (3yrs) keeps saying "But what are the spots for, mummy?"

Thinking of trying a facial, if I ever get my energy back and can drag myself to town. Still in a fog of exhaustion and nausea.

Did manage to contact and chat to a doula, who sounds great. Made me realise how different a well-supported birth could be. My thinking at the moment is that if we can have a homebirth then she may be a bit redundant, because should have at least one midwife there, and they seem to use the good ones for hbs. But if have to go to hospital then she could be invaluable if (as last time) midwife has whole line of other women to look after. DH a bit worried about being usurped, tho. Has anyone used a doula before? Advice v gratefully received.

Scan tomorrow. Trying not to think more about it than just "scan tomorrow".

harmonyb23 · 17/05/2010 12:58

hmmsleep that is an amazing bump... Mine just looks like I've been eating too many cakes (which in fairness I probably have!), I just look really chubby!

Wonderful scan photo Babybean. I have decided to add a link here to mine

I decided to get 3 but they are all pretty much the same and 'the bean' did not want to lie on it's back for any of them.... so looks different to many other scan pic's I have seen.

Glad everyone's scans seem to be going well .

potbellybear · 17/05/2010 12:58

Dear all November ladies

I'm 43, first pregnancy to get to 13 weeks. Due date of November 22nd. Still recovering from the shock of a postive pregnancy test four weeks ago. I'm no Yummy Mummy (do these woman actualy exist?) but am trying to relax and enjoy the experience. The sickness has stopped this week so glad in one way and worried in another.

Any tips on you're all coping with scans and screening much appreciated.

umf · 17/05/2010 13:04

Hello and congrats potbellybear! I'm EDD 22 Nov too. Have you had 12ish scan yet?

potbellybear · 17/05/2010 13:15

Hi umf

I had my 12 week scan last Tuesday, it all went well, just wainging for the results of our nuchal scan. It's a lovely experience but so scary at the same time.

hmmSleep · 17/05/2010 13:39

Welcome to the thread potbellybear!

Good luck for tomorrow umf. harmonyb23, the link just took me to log in page, so have linked again here more lovely scan pics!

I'm actually starting to get a bit paranoid about the size of my bump, I obviously have zero stomach muscles left to hold anything in! Keep waiting for someone to come on and say that's nothing, look at the size of this!

Babybean1 · 17/05/2010 14:16

Thanks hmm, will try it next time with the 16 week bump! (if all fails....will be coming to you for the rescue! )

Lovely pic too harmony. Didnt realise you were in Britol aswel. Sorry if you'd said before and ive missed it....think the baby brain has started to set in! Where abouts are you?

Welcome potbellybear. No suggestions on how to relax with scans etc im afaid. I was a complete nervous wreck up until the time i saw it on the screen, and even now a couple weeks after, im starting to get nervous again about future tests/scans - so sorry.....just talking about it to everyone on here seemed to help tho! (although im sure you'd all had enough of me saying how nervous i was by the time it came round!

Good luck tommorrow umf commment from your DS made me laugh!

Glad the scan went well 4madboys

Booboobedoo · 17/05/2010 14:44

hmmmsleep - that's a lovely bump! You look very slim every where else too. Don't worry about it - everyone's body responds differently. I'll post a pic of mine when I can be bothered.

Nice scan pics too everyone, and welcome to potbellybear. Advice for not worrying about scans: just keep as busy as you can to distract yourself. That's all I can offer, I'm afraid.

My scan is on July 6th, when I'll be 22 weeks. I was told it had to be that week of my pregnancy, for no reason I can fathom.

I was expecting it to go faster this time around, but it's really bloody dragging already.

I am aware that I moan a lot on this thread, btw, so sorry. Stops me inflicting it on passing strangers in the park!
