SomethingSuitablyWitty I hope your scan went well, mine went fine and they found a heamatoma so they said expect another bleed, certainly feel reassured and have emailed my dad and brother a pic of the scan I am seeing how long it takes them to work out what it is.

SomethingSuitablyWitty · 10/05/2010 13:45

Thx to loopsy, umf and others for the good wishes for the scan! I'm just back from mine and very happy!

Actually, just like bunnygirl and nomore the baby wasn't in a good position and the doc didn't find it easy at all, but managed finally to get a good nuchal measurement (totally normally) and a quick check of the rest, which all looked fine, though we didn't get to see the legs at all, as they were behind the baby, who was sitting up waving his arms about. Very cute!

Good luck to you harmony - hope it all goes well!

And mumcha - good luck at the dentist. That sounds just awful!

clueless - looking forward to hearing how it went!!

cluelessnchaos · 10/05/2010 13:46

and the consultant doubled my dose of thyroxine and has booked me in for extra scans to check on the bleed and check my cervix, had a cervical suture in first pregnancy.

X-post clueless - that's great news! Good that you have the heads up to possibly exoect another bleed: you're as well to know that! Good news on the extra scans and care as well. Sounds liek you are in very good hands!

SomethingSuitablyWitty · 10/05/2010 14:02

loopy to be honest the pics aren't good at all - just a blur, with a weird elbow close-up, but not to worry! The essential is that all was looking well.

hmmSleep · 10/05/2010 14:15

Fantastic to hear all this good scan news .

I know it probably depends where you live, but does anybody know if I'm supposed to book my 16 wk check myself, or will the midwife contact me? I'm 16 weeks at the end of this week (I think, still haven't got round to working that out properly, Fenouille, kawaiiko let me know how many weeks you are and it'll save me the trouble ) so thought I'd have been contacted by now . Perhaps I'll give them a call.

cluelessnchaos · 10/05/2010 14:17

My pics were a bit crap too, baby facing the camera, I am pleased that they upped my dose I have been very tired and would have struggled if they had left it the same, I am so pleased we can relax and get on with pregnancy sonethingsuitablywitty did they change your date I measured bang on 13 plus four.

SomethingSuitablyWitty · 10/05/2010 14:40

Hey Clueless - at my first scan the doc gave me 14th nov as a due date (it's wrong on the list here actually...) and he has never changed that, although the measurements vary slightly every time. Today they were 13+3 on the screen (not 13+1). I'm not too worried about a bit of variety one way or the other and the doc doesn't seem to be either, so that's fine.

Loooopy · 10/05/2010 16:14

re prams, this is the video that has virtually convinced me to get the baby jogger city select ...

youtube.com/watch?v=4czQ5Fxr51k

Like nomoremagnolia price isn't my concern, as i've mentioned before DP's mom is footing the bill and thinks the region of £700 is fine with her. But as its so much money, i want to make sure we get the right one as would hate to end up changing it down the line especially after she's paid for it for us!

Anyone got any opinions on this one? I like that it could cope with two children at same time, and one at the back has a better vantage point than the icandy peach seating positions....and also like that if buy the buggy board accessory, it can cope with 3 children, as we're planning to have more children after pfb in quick succession. I think this would do us and mean we don't have to ever buy another one, and looks easy to click bits into place, and like the quick collapse of it, and just want to know if there is anything of any concern to anyone out there who might know more about prams etc than me given that this is my first baby!

thanks in anticipation

youremindmeofthebabe · 10/05/2010 16:15

harmony my scan will be in bradford. I think. I had better check that though.
(last one was in leeds)Only 48 hours to go/scared.

Glad you all had good scans today.

hmmsleep my midwife made me my next appt at my original booking in appt, for the end of june. Maybe give em a ring?

Mibby · 10/05/2010 17:31

hmmmSleep my midwife made my 16 wk app at the booking in one but she wrote it on the app card and forgot to tell me, only spotted it when the sonographer wrote on there too

hmmSleep · 10/05/2010 18:13

Thanks YRMOTB and Mibby, have just worked out I'm 15+5 weeks now, and definitely nothing on my app card, just my 20 wk scan appointment on there. Will give them a call tomorrow.

Anyone else getting cravings? I didn't with my previous pregnancies, unless you count the smell of leather (used to loiter in shoe shops ). This time however I can't get enough boiled eggs, mussels, smoked salmon and olives. The last few days I can't get enough of everything mind, I'm soo hungry, constantly, must be making up for not eating much in the first trimester!

shipsladyg · 10/05/2010 18:13

Loopymumsy ...... I'm thinking that you're the person that just over fourteen years ago guided me back from the Frog & Frigate pub to Stoneham when I'd had a few too many Speckled Hens ..... and if I'm right you're the reason why my DH has been bullied into letting me have a home water birth next month (but is now quite happy with the idea)... and I still haven't posted your Xmas card coz I'm sooo very gash at keeping in contact with people!!!!!!!!!

Or I could be totally wrong.... and that would be embarrassing - but a good reminder for me to contact person I described above.

Yay! yay! yay!

You've been my beacon of hope, excellence and best practice all through my pregnancy. Whenever I get a bit wobbly, I think back to how you made it all look/sound so easy, so matter of fact and so straight whilst I cowered with the kettles!!! Other mumsnetters - yes Loopymumy is my total heroine!

How exciting that No 4 is on the way. How very cool! Sorry to hear that they're being twitchy about you having it at home. Good luck with the scan tomorrow. Will be thinking of you.

Big hugs to you, DH and the trio of beauties.

shipsladyg · 10/05/2010 18:42

(just thinking that I could sound like a total internet stalker there.... I'm not. Honest. Really. )

Fenouille · 10/05/2010 19:04

Great news on all the scans! Ours also didn't want to turn around for the NT, there seems to be a theme here!

Loopy sorry to hear you're so down, I'm sure the hormones can't be helping. Your mw seems to have made a good suggestion about bringing your consultant meeting forward so I hope you get some reassurance soon.

Hmmm, glad you've worked your timing out as I'm TOTALLY confused over mine

No cravings for me yet but I'm using them as an excuse to eat a whole bunch of crap although we have been eating very healthily all weekend so it kind of balances out.

I'm getting a bit stressed out by all this pram talk. I didn't realise it was so complicated The chat about when to finish work was interesting too. The pre-enclampsia stat was I was planning on working (health permitting) up to 3 weeks before my EDD but the last two weeks have been so stressful I'm not sure I'll make it! On the other hand, most of my pregnancy will be during the holiday period so work should get calmer until September. Have any of you worked so close to the EDD with previous pregnancies? How do you stop yourself going crazy with boredom in the weeks beforehand?

Booboobedoo · 10/05/2010 20:00

Evening ladies,

Fantastic to hear about more good scan results.

Whoever was asking, I've got a Bugaboo Chameleon, and tbh I'm not sure if I'd buy it if I had my time again.

FWIW, I'd buy a really good pram (that's just a pram) and then a MacLaren. (Listen to Loopymumsy - she knows).

It is kind of useful being able to put the car seat on the chassis when they've fallen asleep in the car, but you shouldn't have them in the car-seat for too long at a time anyway.

Bugaboo Bees do go flat (I know several people who have them), but you have to strap the baby in from day one which doesn't look too comfy to me.

Loopymumsy's cyberstalker made me smile. Oh to be stalked like that!

Haven't been sick for three days now - can't believe it. Very hopeful.

I'm fifteen weeks, and suddenly the baby's gone bonkers! I've felt squirmy movement all evening! It's probably all the unaccustomed activity and excitement, due to me no longer languishing on the sofa all day, with occasional trips to the porcelain palace.

Oh, and thanks to whoever suggested cranberry and ginger ale a while back - delicious. Having said that, I take your cranberry and ginger ale and raise you...

Grapefruit juice and ginger ale.

Really.

umf · 10/05/2010 20:51

Loopy that's so cool, you have a fan stalker!

I reckon Booboo and Loopy are talking a lot of sense about pram then Maclaren. Or just a Mac. Those closer-to-the-top-of-the-range Maclarens are damn good. And you could do soooo much with the rest of the buggy budget.

Aargh the indigestion! Will it fade in 2nd trimester, or am I stuck with it for next 6 months?

The pre-eclampsia statistic was from this article. I haven't read the research paper, nor have I seen the research reported or replicated since. It caught my notice because it seemed bonkers that government advice should be making us paranoid about essentially theoretical listeria risks, while policy ignores a significant threat to our health. Not that I'm an evangelical SAHM or anything - I worked right up to DS's birth and went back fulltime at 6 months. But I like to have all the info.

Gaga82 · 10/05/2010 21:12

Hi,

Was just coming on to ask about how far in people would be giving up work. Interesting to have read what people have said. I am thinking about going up to 3 weeks before (as a teacher, it fits in nicely with term dates) but not so sure now. Something else to ponder over. Anyone else got any ideas?

As for pram shopping, that is my summer holiday project! Loving how much more relaxed I feel since the scan, and how much better I feel generally. Might even start to enjoy this all now!

hmmSleep · 10/05/2010 21:17

Also agree about the Maclaren techno, was all I had from birth for my dd until ds was born and I needed a double (phil and teds). Thought it was great. Lightweight, folded up small and easily, seat fully reclined. If you're looking for a basic, reasonably priced pushchair that does it's job well would definitely recommend.

tiany · 10/05/2010 21:21

I was thinking of working up to Nov 1, due nov 13?... but will play it by ear.

Had a bit of spotting today and totally freaked out by it... not much but hadnt had any for 2wks, 12wks scan went fine... trying not to worry but off to australia on Weds night so freaking out not about the flight. I need to mellow out.. i am usually pretty calm

Happy for all of you getting good scan news !

Fenouille · 10/05/2010 21:45

Easier said than done tiany, but try to concentrate or your fab holiday and have a good nights sleep to let the spotting sort itself out. I hope you're feeling better in the morning.
