Hi all. Thought I would get the new thread started before the old one got too full! Thanks to nomoremagnolia for the title

Mibby · 08/05/2010 14:45

I know this is odd but i kept thinking 'I'm 12 weeks' cos it was the 12 week scan without really working it out (was actually 13 weeks by the time i got the scan) and now they've moved my due date I'm nearly 14 weeks and feel like I missed a bit.
Am I just being mad?
Did anyone else get this?

Oh, babybecks, that's so sad. So sorry for your loss. Good luck in the future though.

It feels churlish to say this in the same post, but am also very happy for sabie privet and gaga.

I am currently terrified for my scan on wednesday. Especially as my symptoms seem to have abated somewhat today.

Hope you all have a good weekend.

BabyBecks: I am so sorry. Take it easy and try again when the time is right....

Loopymumsy I had a choice of 3 hospitals/services (in London). I choose the nearest, it is also convenient for work but I do not actually live in that borough so I was told at my booking in I could not have a homebirth as I lived 'out of borough'. Perhaps I would have chosen another hospital and kept that option open longer so I could really think/talk about it, if I had known. However, I'm not too upset as I think I wanted the reassurance of having meds/mw's around anyway. But I now need to get clued up (I didn't dare before as was v. superstitious of doing anything until 12 week scan). Thanks for recommendations.

Magnolia; where are you living? Keep on mumsnet for chatter!

Fenouille · 08/05/2010 18:59

Sorry to hear your news BabyBecks

Sabie · 08/05/2010 20:33

Saturday night telly is rubbish. Have decided to start researching what to buy in prep for baby...any good site suggestions...?

Lorelai · 08/05/2010 20:45

Sabie, you can always change hospitals if you want; nothing is set in stone at this point. Better to make sure you are happy with your choices than possibly have regrets.

Loopymumsy Thanks for the advice on lightweight slings. I had a look at some Oz based sling sites and they seem to have a range of light materials recommended for summer. The solarveil looks like a good option as it's UV protective and designed to get wet so will be great for the beach.

Magnolia I'm sure we'll all keep you company while your DH is away

BabyBecks so sorry to hear you news. Thanks for coming back to update us.

It's Mother's day here today and our local pub is doing free food for all mums, including those that are pg. Might pop down there with my antenatal notes and see if I can get a free lunch

Morning everyone.

So sorry to hear your sad news, Babybecks.

Haven't posted for a couple of days, as our laptop is being fixed (hopefully), but have nicked DH's work laptop this morning.

Haven't been sick for two days, so am allowing my hopes to rise...

Thanks for all the sling info Loopymumsy. I'm going to paste it into a Word Doc to peruse at my leisure. I fancy a nice wraparound one for the first couple of months, and will prob switch back to my upright sling when baby is a bit bigger.

Word of caution though to those of you first-timers who are considering not bothering with a buggy to begin with. If you have a caesarian (and you never can tell) then babywearing will be very difficult. I had a nasty second-degree tear last time, and found it hard to walk for three or four weeks after the birth, so couldn't wear the sling for very long. Just a thought.

harmonyb23 · 09/05/2010 12:57

So sorry to hear your news BabyBecks but good luck for the future!

Youremindmeofthebabe I have also got my scan on Wednesday and am feeling really nervous... Just hope everything is alright!!

I am still getting stretching pains and have an awful taste in my mouth that won't seem to go away. Have also just weighed myself and seem to have lost 4 lbs, must be due to the lack of food I have been eating lately, just find eating so unappealing!!!

Hope everyone else is ok... x x x

Ooooh, we were in Mothercare earlier, and I think I may have found my pram! It's a Silver Cross Linear Freeway and I loooove it! Only problem is a few online reviews aren't that favourable (most are!), and some say the M&P Pliko might be better, so will be looking at that too. Will try and get as second-hand one though as they are quite expensive.

babybeck sorry to hear your news and fingers crossed for you next time around xo

youremindmeofthebabe · 09/05/2010 16:33

harmony that's exciting, i shall be thinking of you on Weds. Mine is PM. Good luck!

My musings are whether to use my old urban detor pram, which was a bit shit and bulky anyway, or my friends silver cross (appalling steering and a bugger to get up or down)

youremindmeofthebabe · 09/05/2010 16:35

detour

cluelessnchaos · 09/05/2010 16:38

thanks for the sling info loopymumsy, what brands do you like best in stretchy wraps, I would be keen to get to sling meet up but I live in the middle of nowhere and would be amazed if there was something local to me.

Scan in the morning, slightly nervous after last weekends drama but really looking forward to it. I have been feeling flutterings which maybe wind but have been reassuring me nonetheless, also looking forward to getting my thyroxine levels assessed, I am knackered and needing the dose upped, I spoke to my gp last week who didnt have access to my latest bloods as they had gone straight to the clinic for the consultant to deal with and as a result I have spent the weekend feeling exhausted. Good luck to all those with scans tommorow,

nomoremagnolia · 09/05/2010 17:45

Thanks for welcoming me back into the fold
I have quite enjoyed my first weekend alone, though I'm sure the excitement of making a significant dent in the huge pile of laundry will soon wear off My sister and her baby are coming to stay ext weekend, so that's something nie to look forward to.
We went to look at prams before DH went away, with the order time of some of them we really need to be ready to order it as soon as he returns, which means we need to have decided which one we like before he gets back. We originally liked the Silver Cross Sleeover (similar to the freeway) the Bugaboo Cameleon and the icandy Cherry but seeing them in RL made us think again. The best thing I can recommend is to find an independent nursery shop as they seem to really know their stuff. The lady in John Lewis knew less than me, and I only know what I do from doing a bit of research and reading reviews on the web. We also bought (before DH left) a rocker chair (like a bouncy chair, but it, um, rocks ) and a couple of toys, DH wanted to be the one to buy baby's first soft toy [aww]
Can I ask a really petty favour - could you call me nomore rather then magnolia? Only I'm totally not used to magnolia and it confuses me to see you talking to someone called magnolia!

nomoremagnolia · 09/05/2010 17:48

Sorry meant to say loopy DH is RAF and keeps talking about leaving but going overseas is an attempt to get him into a job he wants when he comes back. He hated his last posting and has been making noises about leaving for the last copule of years.

hello all, just bookmarking as i managed to loose this thread

great to hear about more positive scans

thinking of you becky xxxx

LOOPY you said you had found a cheap strechy wrap? i have a non stretchy wrap that i intend to use again, annoyingly my instructions are in german!! gah i had a freind translate some of it and i mastered a few wraps with it, one for newborn and one on my back, having not done a newborn wrap for a while i think i will have a look on youtube to find some instruction videos!! they are quite handy, or else i could look at the website of the sling, i think it was easycare? or something, i got it when i was preg with ds2, so a while ago! anyway LOOPY what i meant to ask was where is this cheap strechy wrap?!! i find non stretchy good as i tend to have HEAVY babies, but might like to give a stretchy a go if i can get one for a reasonable price, i have just arranged to buy a mei tai of a friend, and with my wrap, wilkinet, two ring slings and close carrier, dp is a bit about my sling obsession! if i can get one cheap he wont notice a small amount going out of the bank account

sorry that was long

has anyone else been ill yet during pregnancy? i have a cold, sore throat and ear ache, doesnt go well with the sickness and constant headaches. to make matters worse, ds4 has a cold and is teething, so he is a miserable wee thing. ds3 also has a cold and ds2 spent this weekend throwing up!! not great when you are pre and feeling rough yourself. i did have a moment of panic when i realised at some point i will be mother to FIVE and then ill, its horrible being ill once you have kids cos you just have to carry on!!

nomoremagnolia · 09/05/2010 19:33

loopy the reason I didn't like the cameleon was that it was so low down (esp as carrycot) The price is not a worry as PIL are buying and have already said £700 isn't too expensive but for that money I'd want to be sure it was worth it, and it would have to be as close to perfect as a pram can be (I have already realised pram nirvana doean't exsist) which I don't think it is for us, though I have a firend who loves hers.
4madboys I have had a bad throat infection (I'm prone to them when I'm run down or stressed) and it was miserable not being able to take anything. I spent about 4 days drinking hot ribena and eating ice cream!
Anyone else with pets finding they are more clingy than normal? I'm sure my cats are being more affectionate than normal and they are taking it in turns to keeps my tummy warm. I think they have a plan that the first sound baby hears is purring

What we like at the moment is the new Silver Cross Surf though as it's so new I'm waiting for customre reviews to start coming in before we commit to buying it. It's around £350 for the pushchair and about £150 for the carrycot if I remember correctly.
