So sorry stuffedmk

It's like a nightmare coming true. I know it's not that helpful but my DH always says that if this happens to us at least we know we can do it.

Take care of yourself. And make sure you are taken care of too.

Loopymumsy thank you for putting me back on. My best friend was there for the early scan. LIterally holding my hand. But she will be in Florida

There is a chance DH will make a flight Wednesday night an be there. But the odds based on his track record are not good.

4madboys · 04/05/2010 17:08

so sorry to hear your news stuffedmk

blondecat i am belchy :b it does help ease the sicky feeling slightly tho!

i had to see gp today just to sort out some repeat prescriptions and he was concerned that my antenatal bloods hadnt come back yet, i explained i havent had them done yet, the midwife said it was too early when i saw her at 6wks and to wait till my dating scan (but i will be almost 13wks) when i have that and gp says that is too late for my booking in bloods? so said to get surgery nurse to do them, only she wouldnt do them as the have to be done by midwife apparently...but the midwife said to see her again at 16wks will will be too late again.

so i am now almost 11wks, do i really need to get my bloods done asap, or can it wait until my scan on the 17th when i will be almost 13wks? also dr seemed to think that if i try and get them done at the hospital then i will have to do the que up get a ticket and wait etc which will be a pita with ds4 with me... hm i may have to just try and get another app with the midwife so she can do it!

addictedisinthesecondtrimester · 04/05/2010 17:23

4madboys i didnt realise there was a time scale in which i had to do it in [worried] when i went for my dating scan and hospital booking in the nurse who took blood had gone home for the day and so had the blood people in the outpatients unit. they said to have the gp do them, but hte gp said to wait till my next mw appointment on the 17th when i'll be almost 15 weeks

4madboys · 04/05/2010 17:29

i know addicted, i keep getting told diff things by diff people!

i am with the norfolk and norwich hospital and THEIR website says booking in bloods should be done around 10wks, midwife said when i have my dating scan, anther midwife told me that it wasnt worth getting them done until after my scan as you 'may miscarry anyway'! but today the gp seemed quite insistent that i should get them done asap! most confusing

hopefultoo · 04/05/2010 17:35

Congrats to all you with your healthy scans, and I am really sorry for those who had sad news.

I went in to the clinic today to give in specimen and saw loads of women with HUGE bumps. As it's my first, I can't believe I will ever get to that stage.

Thanks to hmmsleep for adding me to the list - I feel more legitimate now.

As for weights, my weight seems to fluctuate too CardiCorgi - I just can't seem to believe wholey that I am pregnant, despite nausea, tiredness and mad vivid baby dreams. Lets hope the 12 week scan shows I still am....

Enjoy the four day week guys!

Booboobedoo · 04/05/2010 18:25

So sorry for your loss stuffedmk.

Thanks for the review Loopymumsy. I'm only thinking about it at the moment because my brother and I were bloody awful together until we reached our teens, and I wanted some ideas.

harmonyb23 · 04/05/2010 18:31

4MadBoys I had my bloods carried out at 10 weeks at my booking appointment. I can't imagine there would be a time scale after which they cannot be done. Surely you could call your midwife if you are concerned. I felt better having mine done straight away as it meant that their was nothing out of the ordinary to start with. But I don't think it's an urgent thing. Seems a bit mean that they would say you might just miscarry anyway, that would have made me really upset!

My weight seems to have stayed the same apart from the initial half a stone [ish] I put on in the first 10 weeks. I am thinking the same Hopefultoo got my fingers crossed that the 12 week scan will show everything is OK.

Blondecat and 4MadBoys I am also very belchy but also find it relieves the feeling of nausea sometimes. Not so polite though! hehehehe!

4madboys, I had my bloods done at 12 weeks, but only because I went in to see if I was ammune to chicken pox and they decided to do the others at the same time, otherwise it would have been done at my booking in appointment at 13 weeks, Seems to be the norm here. They do the dating scan at around 12 weeks, then the booking in a week later, so guess most people in Harrogate get their bloods done at 13 weeks.

Are you talking just the standard blood tests though, as in for blood type, anemia, Rubella, HIV etc?

The triple test, (for down's syndrome) needs to be done between 15 - 20 weeks.

However if you want the early Down's syndrome test, normally combined with nuchal scan, I think this has to be done betwwen 9 and 13 weeks. Tests for Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia are done even earlier, but don't really know anything about these.

hopefultoo · 04/05/2010 19:11

Thanks for adding me to the list hmmsleep - I feel much more legitimate now.

Sorry to hear about the losses. I am impressed people have felt able to speak of their sad news here. I don't know whether I'd have any voice at all afterwards. Also I can't imagine the idea of going through all these early symptoms again...

Does anyone else feel a bit odd reading through these discussions about what to buy. I just feel such a fraud at this point - no bump and not really sure if I made the whole pregnancy up, morning sickness and all!

Like you, Cardi, I seem to have lost weight in the last week r so. Very odd.

Good luck for the scans ahead (me included!) and congrats to those who are enjoying the scan pictures already.

hopefultoo · 04/05/2010 19:13

Oops, sorry guys - I have posted two similar messages as I thought the other one got lost! Please ignore one or both!

hmmSleep · 04/05/2010 19:20

Don't worry hopeful, you can blame pregnancy brain . Good luck with scan!

HeadlessLadyH · 04/05/2010 19:42

So sorry stuffedmk, I had been thinking about you. Take care of yourself and I wish you all the best for the future. It will happen for you one day.

CardiCorgi · 04/05/2010 19:58

Nothing like a good burp to make the nausea better, is there

stuffedmk I´m so sorry to hear your news.

Thanks everyone for the reassurance on the weight front. Not trying to make anyone jealous really, I just seem to need something worry about all of the time. Hopefultoo I know what you mean about feeling like a fraud, I´ve had a scan but I´m still finding it hard to beleive that there´s really going to be a baby living in the house by the end of the year. In my swimsuit today I looked like I had a bit of a bulge, but if you didn´t know you would have just thought that I´d had a few pies too many.

Fenouille · 04/05/2010 20:20

Hmm I'm also lost when it comes to dates We're pretty much due on the same date and my Dr. (went today for something completely different) said I was 14 weeks, so we can go with that!

clueless totally agree about the secrecy thing. We told our parents quite early (well, we only found out at 9 weeks ourselves but we'd have told them earlier if we'd known) so that if anything did/does go wrong we'd have their support.

We had our initial parental preparation interview yesterday. Our Dr. did it and asked us a bunch of questions about our reactions to the news, any changes my DH has noticed in me, etc. We don't really do this kind of discussion, so while we definitely think it's useful and a good opportunity to discuss stuff we don't normally it was pretty excrutiating She asked if I'd noticed any internal changes in myself ("Um, not really?") and then told me not to worry, normally the fathers notice more than the mothers - "So Mr. F, what changes have you noticed?" Poor DH Has anyone else heard of the Dr. Raynes method for parental preparation? Or is this just some French craziness?

tiany · 04/05/2010 20:49

stuffed so sorry to hear this one hasnt worked out. I hope you are getting well looked after and wish you lots of luck for the future

tiany · 04/05/2010 20:51

I have had a pounding headache since i woke up this morning... didnt get enough sleep so maybe why. Woke up by some crazy dreams... very vivid. weird.

tiany I too have been suffering with headaches. I haven't had headaches like this since I was a teenager! Disgustingly awful!

Good day today though - managed to make a baked cheesecake AND eat some! Mmmhmm!

PrivetDancer · 04/05/2010 21:49

I think I might have interpreted your dr's questions wrongly, fen, when you say internal changes do you mean internally in the genital area? And was he asking your dh if he'd noticed anything different?!
I hope I've got the wrong end of the stick

Privet No, she meant in terms of behaviour driven by a change in my mental outlook. But I'm sure DH will be happy to double check that my internals haven't changed just to be on the safe side... especially as I'm feeling horny all the time. Am I the only one?

Loopsy Haha, sounds like it would be useful for you! It's a method that aims to help the parents understand the changes (ah, so that's why you're a screaming banshee! ) as well as assist the "mental maturation" that you go through as you become parents. There's not so much about what happens during labour but I can take some extra preparatory lessons for that if I want. We're pretty tempted as we're awful at talking about our emotions (typical Northern Europeans!)

I can't find anything in English but if anyone wants to practise their French the website is here.

Are there any specific preparation methods in the UK apart from the NCT ones? What actually do the NCT courses teach? Have any of you heard of, or are doing, Haptonomy (one of the other methods proposed over here)?

mumcha · 04/05/2010 22:36
