Lol, I want to get all the children out before 30 if at all possible, DH wants 3 so ending on twins would be good
And wrt the 'gift' it was a spoon that we'd left at a friends' house, cost me £1.10 to pick up when you can buy 8 of them for a quid in Wilko's.
skirts

CherryPie3 · 15/04/2010 11:46

Aaaaah, I see your thinking

I agree with you too - would be nice for your last pregnancy to end with a twin pregnancy (and you sneak an extra child in there too )
at the postage costing more than the spoon itself!!!

Random thought here - but I wonder why there are extra bold stars on the list - theres definitely not extra ones on the list before I copy/paste it

Hurrah for Starshaker's violet twins!

Just been researching things for my crazy system of bargaining with myself to justify the things I want - ie. will splash on a Stokke cot but then research which nappy is pennies cheaper. Got a bit of direct mail from ASDA to say they are having a Baby & Toddler Event from 20th April - 8th May.
Experienced mummies, do these seem like good deals to you?

Huggies, size 2 newborn nappies x 100 - £7
Tommee Tippee electronic breast pump - £40
Tommee Tippee Breast pump - £10
Tommee Tippee microwave steriliser - £10

I'm planning to breastfeed but express so DH can share the burden (or I may be crap at it so I'd quite like to get the gear in anyway).

Oh, and if I was bulk buying - would 400 of one size of nappy be too much?

pamplem0usse · 15/04/2010 12:47

weehector I'd do some research on breast pumps as some have very bad reviews......
Huggies newborns.... I paid £6 for 35 so sounds like a good deal! Although mine weren't on offer they were just to get my free boots changing bag......
I believe LO's can grow out of the newborn style pretty quickly

babyducky · 15/04/2010 12:50

great news starshaker

weehector- I think those sound like good deals, dont think I would be more than 200 newborn nappies though.

babyducky · 15/04/2010 12:51

buy not be!!

bouncingblueberries · 15/04/2010 12:52

quick note on bargains girls - look at Toys R Us (or rather Babies R us) we got a bargain-tastic steriliser and breastpump from there last time. But, word of warning on breast pumps: not everyone is able to express. I found milk gushed out for the 1st 10 weeks and pumping was a breeze, then all of a sudden I could barely get a drop out (coincided with in-laws coming to stay - reckon stress played a HUGE part!). So don't get upset if pumping doesn't come easy. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't (like so much else with being a mum )

mrsZaC · 15/04/2010 14:28

hey girls,

managed to login in at work - woo hoo!

Congratulations starshaker you must be sooo pleased one of each, how perfect.

vix your course looks good I'm quite pleased with how my one looks, I like the fact that she's coming to the house and I think it will get DH more involved in learning what it's all about as he is one of those who thinks you should know everything instinctivly (ie no books etc)

cazem sorry to hear about your bad night's sleep, my DH is very restless and turns over a lot in his sleep and when he's had a drink in him snores too! so I know how you feel. Next time just poke him in the ribs, that's what I do, he told me to do it though as he doesn't really mind me waking him up to turn over.

I got a lovely pencil skirt for my work uniform(paid for by work too!) from Isabella Oliver, if you splash out on anything I would really recommend splashing on on something from there. I've got a lovely wrap around top for going out for dinner etc. and I love it, material is lovely and it's a very good fit.

good luck at your appointment cherry

pamplem0usse · 15/04/2010 14:36

starshaker how lucky are you?! My dream next pregnancy would be twins, one of each!

mrsZac how lucky are you to get work uniform bought for you from Isabella Oliver?! V jealous. I just got my Mamas & Papas maternity jeans today and I think I may struggle to ever go back to normal jeans. They're just so comfy!!

However my award for worst customer service of the day goes to M&P... I ordered a support pillow from them ten days ago to be told it was out of stock. Was told to expect it by the end of this week, but when I noticed it was back on their website as 'in stock' three days ago I emailed to ask when mine was likely to be despatched. Two more emails later and no response. Phone call + 20 minutes on hold later and I'm told that it won't be with me until the middle of next week because the order I placed 10 days ago needs at least four working days to process. Roll on more days of excruciating back pain!

pamplem0usse · 15/04/2010 14:41

Oh a couple of other things:-

Cherry good luck with the appointment....

Is anyone else a bit concerned that if the new government calls a budget early on within the 50 days they're likely to, that we might miss out on the HIP grant? I say this because I don't hit 25 weeks until around the time of the election and my MW is notoriously bad at providing the right paperwork on time, in which case if they stop it quickly I might end up doing without :-( it's a £190 I could really do with (ahem to feed my M&P habit despite their shitty customer service!).

Oh and hip hip, I'm having fish and chips for tea!!

pamplem0usse · 15/04/2010 14:50

Oh my god I don't seem to be able to write a post without the word 'luck' in it!

Joey30 · 15/04/2010 15:05

HI guys! I'm so rubbish at keeping up with you all. Hope you are all well.

Just had my 20 week scan yesterday and all was really good and its a BOY! A really wriggly boy by the look of the monitor! The piccie was awful because he was moving around so much.

Has anyone noticed by the way that people seem to go a little crazy when they see a preganant person? A lady in our works canteen (wbho I dont really know!)refered to me as "fatty" yesterday! What?! I found it quite funny but my friend was outraged!!!!

Wee Hector I am so jealous of your cot I love that Stokke cot so much but cant convince my boyfriend! To be fair my mum is buying the cot and nursery furniture so it would be a bit cheeky to ask for a stokke cot as well

mrsZaC · 15/04/2010 15:16

hehe I know pample we get quite a high uniform allowance for 2 full suits, with 2 spare trousers/skirst and 6 shirts. They left it to me as to what to pick and ended up being quite a difficult task, took ages! only thing I managed to get on the high street was my trousers, 2 pairs from M&S limited collection maternity - sooo comfy. Suit jacket from Crave (very good quality jacket and great fit) 2 skirts from Isabella Oliver and 3 shirts from Seraphine which are fab (will 3 buy bigger sizes when I need them). This maternity wear lark isn't as easy as I thought it was going to be! I'm not so keen on some of the high street stuff and I'm with marzi on the subject of not being an internet shopper, however after getting my uniform mostly online I am now a lot braver, I think maternity wear was made for me, some of the only clothes that I can buy that actually flatter my shape!

pample so sorry to hear about your trouble with M&P. I got my dream genii in Mothercare with a 10% off voucher I had from being a member of their club. I sympathise with wanting it right there and then, why I got it in the shop.. hope it arrives for you soon, I'm starting to sleep better now i have my sleeping sausage as DH calls it.

vix206 · 15/04/2010 16:51

Congrats starshaker on your news

I have developed a nice new symptom... My left nipple feels (on and off not all the time) as though somebody is driving a blunt barbecue skewer into it. Nice! Only pressure relieves it, good job I work for myself and its only DH and me here at the office!

From what I have read this could be the start of colostrum. Anyone else have the pleasure yet?

neenz · 15/04/2010 17:35

Re epidurals Parkgirl, it's so hard to know how you're going to deal with the pain the first time. I can understand wanting to have an epidural on 'standby' just in case. But all births are different, when it is a a very long labour an epi is more likely, so perhaps you could go to the MLU and if you are not progressing and want an epi you can transfer then. I think you are more likely to get a natural birth in the MLU so if that is important to you I'd stay put. I had twins on just g&a (but only 10hr labour) so it is possible to cope with the pain. It isn't that bad if you prepare well. Did I mention Lamaze: Giving Birth With Confidence (sorry, I know I did but it really is a great book and will give you the confidence to give birth without the epi). Was your friend induced? It can often be longer and more painful but your labour might not be like that at all. Saying all that, I had a lovely vaginal birth in hospital (not MLU) (altho I had forceps) so it is possible to do it in a CLU setting as well!

MrsZac, I read the hypnobirthing book and did the Natal CD and found it really good, it definitely helped with the pain. I just wish I'd had more confidence in it at the pushing stage, but I didn't actually believe you can 'breathe' your baby out like the book said! In the end I pushed really hard when I didn't have the urge and ended up with forceps (which weren't too bad) but I think if i'd followed the hypnobirthing better I might have been able to do it on my own.

Nichy, not even gas and air available?

Star, congrats, b/g twins are great

If you have room a cot where one side drops down and under (like this, is great, cos then you can have it right next to you at first then it is a proper cot for later (so only one cot to buy). We didn't use moses baskets for the twins (for cost), just had one of these.

Pample, you might change your mind about those twins once you have this baby! I'd be a millionaire if I had a £1 for every person who said to me 'I wanted twins till I had my first baby'

Vix, I get some crustiness around the nipple atm which I think is colostrum and can also squeeze a little out if I press really hard!

cakeywakey · 15/04/2010 18:06

Congratulations Starshaker! What lovely news .

Having a right day of it. Put the sugar bowl in the fridge earlier and later threw the car key into the wheelie bin when I was clearing out the driver's door Had to get a garden cane from the shed to hook it out. Yuk!

starshaker · 15/04/2010 18:14

Have updated my profile with my new scan pic. I am so please im having B/G twins.

ElusiveMoose · 15/04/2010 18:18

OMG how much have you lot chatted today !! No time to catch up individually, except to say big congrats to Star, how very exciting!

A quick addition to the embarrassing questions('yes' to the erect nipples, BTW)... Has anyone else found that their vaginal discharge is much darker/more copious than normal? I noticed today that my favourite pair of cream/grey stripe PJs are getting really stained , along with white pairs of pants. Might have to start wearing pants at night as well, I think, and then chuck the whole lot out once I've had the baby .

Right, need to go and get my brain in gear. I've got my bridge night tonight (yes, I know, it's terribly middle-aged ), which means that I need to stay alert until 10.30 .

parkgirl · 15/04/2010 18:32

Neenz - yes my friend was induced - however had another message from her today saying she only had the epidural due to an underlying heart problem that she became worried about towards the end - if it hdn't been for that she says she wouldn't have had it. Felt much better!

Had my second scan part two this afternoon. Had the first part last week but the baby was in an awkward position so the sonographer couldn't see all her organs. So round two - still lying funny -(she looks lush though - but maybe I am biased!!!) had a wee and jumped around and she finally moved fter 30 mins. Hurrah! All well with her measurements, but have to have another scan at 34weeks due to a low lying placenta. (DH says I should be pleased I have something new to worry about!!) I think this is quite normal though, so not too worried (yet!!)

girlsyearapart · 15/04/2010 19:17

congrats star so what does your dd think of the news??

Have had good day today. The 24 wk check went well all fine and this time when she listened to the heartbeat she said girl not boy like she said last time so it's official we are either having a boy or a girl

weehector yes 400 in newborn def too many imo. They grow out of first size v quick.

I got that mail from asda too. Will be buying the avent bottle starter pack- they were the best ones we found and we have the avent microwave steriliser which is great. Am treating this baby to some new bottles as the others went through two.

Also if it's another girl that'll likely be the only new thing she gets!

starshaker · 15/04/2010 19:27

dd has decided that a brother and a sister will be nice and there is no need for santa to change the boy (cos they are rubbish). Think shes happy about it now lol

CazEM · 15/04/2010 19:54

Evening all!

Well considering my very crappy nights sleep and very tired morning its been a good day! mrsZaC - I do jab him in the ribs, and shake him and the occasional full on whack, but waking him is like trying to wake the dead! I can't describe how badly he snores! We have to find a cure before babys born because I can't cope with her and him waking me up all night! Someone has told me about a wristband today that gives a "shock" every time the person snores, so think we'll be giving that a go!

Chulita - thanks for that reassurance. Hopefully moses will fit in the space I've thought of, but if not there isn't a lot else I can do about it is there!!

Star congrats on your violet twins, and Joey on your little boy!

Elusive - I'm glad you've bought up the issue of v-discharge as I've also been wondering the same thing. A lot heavier and darker than I've ever had before. Was going to ask the MW at my next appointment.

Best piece of news of the day is that management actually listened to me! Hooray! I will now be keeping one of the staff that have been with me this year, so there is now at least some continuity for the children. Also I was told who my maternity cover is going to be, and it is someone who has worked in the school and with my class before, so all should be good on that front too.

Feeling quite sorry for DH tonight, his xbox has stopped working. Now the xbox irritates me a lot when he goes through a being glued to it stage, but I do feel bad for him. Looking into a repair man taking a look at it, hoping it something easy otherwise he's looking at a lengthy wait for a new one....

Dinner is ready so must go eat! Chicken pie and roasties, yummy!

pamplem0usse · 15/04/2010 20:19

Caz love the wristband idea but think I need something more like a cattle prod to deal with mine!

CellyD · 15/04/2010 21:21

Wow it?s taken me quite a while to catch up on the end of thread 5 and the beginning of this thread. I know it?s been said already but Vix I thought you were very brave to post your experiences.

Congratulations to everyone on the good news from their scans.

Joey30 ? I have had a mixture of comments about my bump ? ?wow, you look so cuddly?, ?I?m so glad someone else is getting big and really fat too?, ?your bump is so small?... I know I should just ignore the comments I don't like but it's really hard sometimes.

CherryPie please can I rejoin the list as I fell off in the refresh? Here are my details ready to copy and paste: #1, Walthamstow, 20 week scan all fine, SURPRISE! Thanks
