I bought a fantastic cardi from george. Was only £6 i just got it a few sizes bigger than i need. I also bought trousers for £3 vests for £3 and none of it is maternity. It does however feel so much comfier than all the maternity clothes i have bought so im gonna stick with george stuff. Cant find it online but ive been in 3 asdas and they all have them. Nice choice of colours aswel

starshaker · 14/04/2010 16:14

Hadn't even thought of Next, that's normally the first place I look!
And thanks for the sponge pudding idea, when DH gets back I'm popping to the shop for some, sounds sooooo good!
I'm watching this on ebay but they don't have it in my size. I was wondering if a size bigger would make much difference...

starshaker · 14/04/2010 16:29

After all the babies are born we will need to have a weight loss thread aswell

neenz · 14/04/2010 16:31

2 pairs trousers, 1 dress, 4 tops and 2 cardis for £8 delivered. All like new! I tell you ebay bundles are the way to go

You lot do talk too much - I have work to do and you are distracting me

Hi all

parkgirl was reading your post re: cravings and was getting ready to post my craving when you went and said you were hoping it was pickled onions - after orange juice this is my biggest craving! Send me the pickled onions - they won't be around for long!!!

Really happy with discussions going on previous thread, having read a few newspaper columns regarding mumsnet was not sure it was the right place to go - but this thread has been excellent - not sure who said it but we have all listened to each other and understood we are all different and this doesn't make us bad people.

20 weeks spot on today and starshaker said something which scared me a bit - when we have all given birth..... not sure if its me being all emotional or what but seems strange the one thing we all have in common means that we will all go our seperate ways eventually and you have all been so helpful in my first time at this pregnancy business and been very supportive when its all new and scary. It is just sad Thank you ladies!

On a lighter note (depressed myself now) Have been to the hopsital today to see my nephew's new baby boy - born at 35 weeks weighing 3lb 9 - in the special baby unit. He is tiny but so so sweet - I had to have a little cry! Doctors happy he is making great progress so fingers crossed.

pamplem0usse · 14/04/2010 17:41

Aww sparkle 3lb9 is so little! I'm sure he'll be fine though. My DH was born at 33 weeks (although he weighed 4lb2) many many years ago (hehe) and even though technology was so much worse then he's turned out (relatively!) fine :-) Imagine sharing the story of when you went to see him being so little with his kiddies!

I'm going to ignore the cake talk. I've a packet of kit kats in the cupboard that are calling me but I'm trying to ignore them..... but maybe I'm feeling sicky because I'm hungry?

LizzieA · 14/04/2010 18:00

Is it too late to join the vix appreciation society?

Due to my lack of concentration I read sponge pudding as rice pudding so I'm now craving rice pudding. So far my cravings have been fruit or fruit juices and ice lollies / ice cream. I sometimes work near a Costco (I move around while doing my job) and they do the best ice cream sundaes and I've eaten a few too many caramel sundaes from McDonalds too. Strangely though I've not put on any weight . I was originally referred to consultant care as my BMI was over 30 but I am just designed to be this size, boo to BMI. The consultant has now put me back to midwife led care and was perfectly happy with my static weight (she even suggested that I eat a bit more but I'm already munching for Britain).

Bit of a delicate question, but is anyone else suffering with permanently erect nipples? I look like a cold Victoria Beckham! (but with E cup boobs)

cakeywakey · 14/04/2010 18:39

I'm having a savoury craving today and am polishing off a selection of pink lady apple slices, green grapes and slivers of a particularly tasty cheddar from the local farm shop. Yuuuuum!

On a completely different note, had a midwife appointment today and all is well. But after she tested my urine sample, she gave it back to me

I did say 'that's a lovely thing to have in my handbag for going into town' and she just laughed and carried on. I thought they had clinical waste thingamajigs to dispose of them? I know it's my wee, but I don't really want it

cakeywakey · 14/04/2010 18:40

Hee hee, love the fact that we're on page three of this new thread already

parkgirl · 14/04/2010 19:12

hi sparkle the onions are yours he he!

I have a dilemma for you ladies - Had a FB message from my friend who gave birth 3 days ago. She described the birth - 18hours labour, first she was in a birthing pool which really helped the pain along with gas and air. She later had pethedine and about 3 hours from the end when she could bear it no longer had an epidural. She said she was reading the paper, texting friends and laughing away. Here is my problem, I am due to have my DD in a midwife led birth centre at my local hospital ie all midwives, no doctors, therefore no epidurals. I don't know whenther to just go with the flow or ask to be transferred to another hospital 20 miles away for the birth where they due have epidurals in case I want one at the end. I am getting more scared that I won't cope etc etc...My local hospital is close for DH and family and is nice and new, very friendly etc. My midwife said the pains not that bad - but she would say that wouln't she!!

Any comments?????

girlsyearapart · 14/04/2010 19:28

parkgirl everyone's birth experience is different so it's hard to judge it based on your friend's experience..

I had dd1 with gas and air then just before the pushing stage I got too tired and had an epidural.

It didn't really work as they gave it to me as I went to 10cm then started pushing- it sort of took the edge off but there was no laughing or texting!

With dd2 I managed with gas and air then had pethidine at the end. After I had to have a spinal block to remove the placenta and I really hated the feeling of not being able to move/feel my legs though there are epidurals which don't do that.

So in summary I will be avoiding epidurals

cazzybabs · 14/04/2010 20:00

I have had 2 children with no pain relief .... thing is everyone is different. My view was the less you had the less you would need doing (e.g. stitching). If its not an option then you will cope because you will have to.

My medicinal birth induction and cs for dd3 was by far the worst

cakeywakey · 14/04/2010 20:13

Evening Parkgirl I second Girls in saying that everyone's birth experience is different and what one person thinks is ok, another will consider to be traumatic.

If you're worried I'd have a chat about it next time with your midwife. And are you booked into antenatal classes? They can be so helpful in giving you information about all types of births and the pros and cons of different pain relief (if you want it) and interventions (should you need them).

Unfortunately, it's a compulsion when you've had a baby to regale everyone with your birth story (been there, done that ) but everyone is different and every birth is different.

You have to think about what you want, but also bear in mind plans b and c if things don't move in the direction that you were hoping. I find that the most disappointed of my friends are the ones who had the most prescriptive birth plans - so any little part of the birth that deviated from it really hit them hard.

I always feel that birth is the means to an end - the safe delivery of your beutiful baby

cakeywakey · 14/04/2010 20:15

That would be beautiful baby

Aussieng · 14/04/2010 20:20

Blimey - there is over 100 posts just from today!!

So much for finishing early - yet another job came in and I now have a report to review to provide comments to my boss tonight so that she can look informed on a conference call tomorrow . New project has just come in which is due to complete on 28 June - a week after I am due to start maternity leave. Gah!!!

Parkirl hope you're ok. Can't add anything about the epidural since this is no.1 for me except to say that *all" of my friends in RL have had one and I find it interesting that so many people on MN manage without them compared to my RL experiences. It is not just a case of one NHS trust being different either since this stretches from Northumberland to Essex. I want the option that's for sure even if it is just the medical equivalent to carrying an umbrella on a sunny day!

LizzieA - know what you mean on the nipples. DH keeps thinking I'm turned on and I have to disabuse him of the notion

Re cots - getting more decided. I'm going to chill about the cot since there is plenty of time and concentrate on the other stuff I want for the nursery and get the co-sleeper when my health in maternity grant comes through. I guess the co-sleeper pretty much sums up what we are trying on the co-sleeping front

Blueberries - the sleigh cot you posted the link to (I think it was you - a whole thread ago!) was one of the ones I had been looking at!

Who mentioned brie and tomato toasted sandwiches yesterday. I had that for lunch today as a result with mango chutney. Drool

Better get back to work will catch up properly with everyone's news later.

Chulita · 14/04/2010 20:26

parkgirl the epidural didn't work for me at all so I'm definitely not going for one this time. Only had it last time because everything went tits up and ended up with a spinal and cs.

I'm guilty of the brie toasties delicious!

And, if anyone's still fancying a sponge pudding, I just made this and it tastes lurvely!

mrsZaC · 14/04/2010 20:42

hey!

My god it's taken me AGES to catch up on what I missed since last night, chatty chatty ladies!

Can I too join the vix appreciation club? well done, brave post & good to hear your from your point of view.

on the sleeping front, I'm not sure what we are going to do cot wise as we don't know where we will be yet (hopefully selling up and moving to a house ) so I think we'll get a moses basket for now and decide what to do when baby is here.

totally know what you mean with the nipples Lizzie seems to be especially bad at work

parkgirl hope your ok sweetie, hope your not too sore.

Sleeping ok at the moment thanks girls but just constantly uncomfortable at work, can't imagine another 13 weeks of being this uncomfortable!! (when i'm finishing up @ work). New troubles today = heartburn = rubbish! find the rennies are quite good though so stocked up on them.

Had that new golden magnum for pud tonight, after DH cooked up the trout he caught yesterday. Just aswell I ate it before reading about the sponge puddings as I really want one now but far too full.

20 wks tomorrow, scan on Friday - woo hoo!
