Chulita your poor friend

Last pg, towards the end i used to like the smell of a clean washcloth that had been in the bath (iyswim?) I used to wallow lie in the bath with a cloth over my face just because i literally craved the smell

Caz another one who didn't get any stretchmarks until 32(i think) weeks. The first ones were on my chicken pox scars and laparoscopy scars and two that looked like bunny ears going up from where i used to have my belly button pierced

Girls i think that is a perfectly acceptable explanation for a young child. My sis got absolutely flamed on MN for admitting that she told her DD that she went to the doctor for medicine to make her pg and that the baby came out of her belly button. I think keeping it simple and based on the truth is probably the best idea. Although i am hoping that a combination of the discovery channel and the fact that DH is a vet will educate DD when she starts asking difficult questions

I have been having some really painful BH this time around, if i am too active my bump protests quite a bit!

babyducky · 11/05/2010 09:46

Hi all,

welcome to fuzzybunny

Sorry cannot remember all the posts as usual!

I didnt get stretchmarks until right near the end last time either

I used palmers cocoa butter.

I started using bio oil after ds was born to help fade them & have been using it every night since, they have almost faded from last time & I have no new ones... yet!
Also been using cocoa butter body butter in the mornings, mainly because it smells so nice!

girls- i think that is a good explanation aswell, thats near enough what we have told ds.

Ive been getting quite a lot of BH at night, I dont remember getting them at all last time!

hope your friend is ok chulita

Aussieng · 11/05/2010 10:15

Morning ladies - sorry Cherry I largely defected yesterday for the politics threads

When I went to bed last night my tummy was so tight I thought it was going to crack apart. Not nice. However I got another lovely night's sleep and woke up all rested. I may never let DH come home.

On Saturday night (DH's last night at home) I had a terrible dream - I dreamed that Dh had a psychotic break and killed our DD (don't have one) and wanted to kill me and the baby so no more falling asleep to the crime and investigation network!

Must say though despite the tight tummy I am in no rush for this baby to arrive! Of course I want to meet him when the time is right but I am already gearing myself up for a fight with my MW over induction. I am intending to refuse to even discuss it until the baby is at least at my original due date (8 days past my current due date). I have been watching Portland babies and am really surprised at just home many people do go for early inductions on there with no apparent medical reasons. Personal decisions, I know.

Alicetheinvisible · 11/05/2010 10:39

Aussie good old pregnancy dreams huh?

Even though i went into labour naturally last time, i was hooked up to the oxytocin as my contractions were all over the place and i think it may have been one of the reasons i had an emcs, they were 'rushing' it iyswim?

This time i want as little 'intervention' (oxytocin etc) as possible and if i go 10days over my due date i am already booked in for an elective cs rather than induction (apparently it puts more pressure/strain on the scar)

I wonder how many people choose to have their baby early because they are worried about extra weight gain, big babies, stretchmarks etc? I ballooned in my final 5-6weeks last time and i think that is quite common.

kcoffin27 · 11/05/2010 10:44

Hi all hope everyone is ok today
Is anyone else getting braxton hicks already? I dont remember having them early last time, and they are painful sometimes
alice do you still have the petite maternity jeans?
11 weeks left the countdown has begun

Aussieng · 11/05/2010 10:48

Alice I find the idea of a dragged out induction possibly ending in EMCS (just as you describe) unpalatable and I'd also prefer (if it becomes necessary) to discuss an option such as yours.

It seems normal practise on Portland babies to do a 36 week scan and there is a lot of talk about big babies after that scan. Also a high epidural rate compared to watching OBEM or some of the other baby programmes (but that is just anecdotal from watching no actual stats).

Yep - that was a lovely dream. Actually woke up and needed a cuddle! Unfortunately the minute I snuggled into DH he started snoring...

marzipananimal · 11/05/2010 11:06

morning all

for your friend chulita, hope and pray they get their miracle

I got quite freaked out about labour yesterday. So far i've been quite relaxed and thinking that hopefully I'll just do it with gas and air. But yesterday I had a really bad tummy ache (accompanied by diarrhoea, nice) and realised i'd forgotten how bad pain is. I think I'm going to be a whimpering wreck begging for drugs, epidurals, everything!

Alicetheinvisible · 11/05/2010 11:20

KC yep, no takers so yours if you want them.

Marzi i really think that labour pain is very unique to the individual. I broke my leg very badly at 20wks pg with DD and managed to get to the hospital on just G&A so thought that i could manage labour with it. I had pethidene before the G&A because i was struggling and they thought something to help me sleep through the early stages was the best option. Unfortunately as soon as it kicked in and i relaxed, my waters went with a huge gush and everything kicked off

My sis who is very accident prone and is a wuss with any pain managed to push out a 10.5lb baby on just G&A. There is no telling how it will be and how you will cope

kcoffin27 · 11/05/2010 11:31

alice thanks I will send you a message on facebook.

CazEM · 11/05/2010 12:44

Hi girls. In for another moan I'm afraid (sorry that all I seem to do at the moment)

Come home from work because I've felt dizzy, light-heated and faint all morning and just generally not myself or right. Also felt breathless and heart pounding most of the morning too. Nurses at school took my BP, normal sat down, slightly raised stood up but nothing dramatic. Feel awful.

Anyone had anything simular or any advice before I start ringing the MW and appearing an drama queen first time pregnant woman?! I'm assuming it is quite normal to have days like this as we go into our later stages of pregnancy?

Chulita · 11/05/2010 12:54

CazEm - that was me all weekend Felt like crap and ended up sleeping most of the time. Apparently because your blood vessels are more dilated, your blood's got further to go and more to, and the toll the baby's taking on your energy levels, it's quite common to have massive dips. I actually passed out in the car after feeling dizzy/light-headed all morning but still thought I'd be alright to go out I'm fine at the mo though! Obviously if you're worried ring your mw but it is normal.

CazEM · 11/05/2010 13:00

Thanks Chulita - I assumed it would be normal. Another pregnancy joy, hope this doesn't start happening too frequently though, I feel really weird and unwell! I will eat a sandwhich and then go to bed and have a sleep I think.

marzipananimal · 11/05/2010 13:02

thanks alice that's encouraging to hear

Hope you feel better soon caz, no harm in ringing the midwife just to check

Jaysfourth · 11/05/2010 13:19

Cazem, i have had that with all four of my pregnancies, and always in the morning. very breathless, heart palpitations and light headed. Lasts between 5mins to an hour sometimes. Best thing is to sit down, have a glass or two of water and eat something which has a bit of sugar in it. Its not nice and can be really scary. Hope you are feeling OK now?

Just to let you know, i requested to join the FB group, so if you are wondering who the 'tagger on' person is, its me! ( J.A )

i have a 4D scan on Sat, - not sure who else said they were having one? i thought i had better have one as i had them with the others.. wouldn't be fair if i didn't!

25wks today

bouncingblueberries · 11/05/2010 16:36

Hi girls!

Just a quick one to let you know that the waffle moses basket is back in-stock on John Lewis website for those that were considering it (Cherry I'm sure you were considering it at one point?).

Sleepy, sleepy this afternoon...pregnancy yoga tonight though if I can stay awake long enough!

as for explanations for little ones I went a bit too far last we were discussing it with ds! He wanted to know how the baby got in my tummy so I told him that daddy put it there and putting babies in mummies tummies is one of the special things that daddies do...ds got very excited and asked when he could become a daddy and put a baby in my tummy he wants to choose the baby next time apparently! (dh nearly passes out trying to keep a serious face!)

girlsyearapart · 11/05/2010 17:34

well thankfully blueberries dd hasn't asked anything about how the baby got there just wants it to come out and wants to know how and when!

aussie I am also a portland babies watcher- don't think it has much bearing on 'real life' although did you see the one the other day where the woman gave birth standing up then caught her own baby!

Chulita · 11/05/2010 19:17

Ok ladies, those of you who've used slings - what would you recommend that would be easy to bf in and not really toasty warm like those wrap-around ones (I suspect they're very toasty for the wearer). Any suggestions?

I'm pleased DD is too young to ask about babies' origins, not sure what I'd say but lol @ blueberries DS!

Jaysfourth · 11/05/2010 20:11

Cherry-or anyone else that knows,

With regards to the 'details list' how do you keep the bold ON when people update their details, or is it that ONE person updates and so can 'manage' the list?

Chulita · 11/05/2010 20:20

jays, cherry is the 'list manager' otherwise we'd all have to type the *'s in again.

Jaysfourth · 11/05/2010 20:27

ok , thanks, as i thought!!!

Jaysfourth · 11/05/2010 20:29

oops pressed wrong button....

what a faff though!! Mumsnet script is soooo out of date!!

ah well, not like i use it everyday

cazzybabs · 11/05/2010 20:32

Jayforth - I am having a 4D scan on Sun ...my 1st and last as didn't have them with the others....am excited and scared...

I am so tired at the mo and full of cold...moan moan moan and my best friend was supposed to be coming over this weekend - haven't seen her for about a year but her toddler is ill and so they can't fly ....

plus I have my appraisal on Thursday and I have the class from hell .. which no doubt will be all my fault

and dh is away next week - the 1st time he has been away since he nearly died last business trip

sigh roll on a fortnight ... mind you then we shall be without a bathroom and I shall be writing reports - so I don'trally know what it worse only that I could do a with a really really stiff drink! Tea isn't cutting themustard

STar - hope your little girl is OK?

And who ever it was the friend with 1:750 with DS - I wouldn't say that was highrisk...my friend came back 1:100 - even that was pretty good odds and her baby was fine! It is no guarantee anyway is it...ven if you are in the thousands you could still be that 1 person. But the unformed brain baby is very sad

Caz -hope you are OK. did you phone the midwife? I wouldn't worry about being neurotic.Mine was telling me she'd been phoned by someone worried that she has swallowed chewing gum and was it going to suffocate the baby (think she must have missed basic biology lessons at school!!)

Emster30 · 11/05/2010 20:35

Hello all! Hope everyone's OK. Hope you're feeling better caz. Jays I think Cherry has a list on her PC which has all the apostrophes in which translate into bold - if you just copy and paste the list from here you will lose the bold.

I had lunch today with two pregnant colleagues, one who is due in 5 weeks and the other 2 weeks after me. They're both on their second babies and it was really nice to catch up!

I am religiously applying bio oil to my bump but I am assuming I'll get stretch marks towards the end. I still have some from going through puberty so I'm definitely prone to them.

I have bought a second hand Kari-Me sling which apparently you can BF in. It will probably be quite warm for summer though.

Jaysfourth · 11/05/2010 21:19

Thanks Emster

cant do any harm in applying the bio oil, it will keep you nice and soft if nothing else !!

cazzy, 4D Scans are great, in themselves they CAN look a bit scarey (imo) but they (scan) really bring it home to you that there is a real baby in there !!!

i also echo your thoughts re the odds 1:750, my odds for this pregnancy are 1:770, so i am on a par....they are good odds and i hope she can be confident in herself

starshaker · 11/05/2010 21:51

cazzy DD is fine. Is so much easier now she can tell the doctor herself whats happened and how she felt and feels now. They had thought she had reflex anoxic (her response to pain was to have a seizure) but today it was totally out the blue with no explination at all. Need to take her to the gp tomorrow to try and see the consultant again sooner than intended since things seem to have changed
