Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
girlsyearapart · 07/05/2010 09:20

cherry I don't think anyone who had all 6 kids taken into care really has the right to comment on your parenting!

Little children can often seem rude when they don't mean it- yesterday friends came to visit and while they were still in the house getting ready to go dd1 had opened the front door for them and both dds were waving at the window with their backs to the visitors who were still here!

star good grief just as well you could speak up for yourself- you don't want 24 weekers if you can help it! did they give you an indication of when it could be?

Only 5 more days until 3rd trimester yay. (ish and scared)

Alicetheinvisible · 07/05/2010 09:54

Morning

Star eek! Bet that was scary. Glad all sorted and nothing too serious. You tell those babies to behave!

Cherry i have family (well mostly just one person) that i don't speak to, and it is horrid and not to be done lightly, but what she said was and i wouldn't forgive that ever.

Neenz your twins are very sweet Also very of your bedroom - its huge!

Went to bed at 9pm last night after a trying day with DD, and still bloody knackered this morning Not dressed yet, but have done the ironing.

Just updating my baby stuff list (helps me feel calm )

Got
Buggy
Car set
Moses basket/bedding
Cot/bedding
Monitor
First size nappies x 48
All clothes for up to 3months
Baby bath/bath support
Baby towels
Bottles
Bouncy chair
Babywipes (fragrence free)
2x packs of disposable change mats

To get
New teats for bottles
Steriliser
Buggy board
Rocking moses basket stand/swinging crib?
Baby swing
Regular change mat
Flipflops (cheap, for hospital)
Maternity pads/breast pads (think i still have a load actually)
Cheap pants
Cheap nightshirts/light dressing gown (peacocks?)
Feeding bras
DD's present

Breast pump? May have one from a friend.

Need to make:
Bibs
Burp cloths
Mobile
Buggy liner/cosy toes

We had the family swinging crib for DD but it is huge, so are thinking about getting a small new one this time. I am all for waiting til the baby is here and seeing if we need it, but DH is quite keen on getting one before. He is also getting a bit more interested in the baby clothes etc too.

Alicetheinvisible · 07/05/2010 09:59

This type of swinging crib here

Aussieng · 07/05/2010 10:45

Morning ladies - deathly tired! Managed to stay awake until 1.40 then drifted off but was awake again at 4 for at least a couple of hours then finally up at 7.30. Election coverage did not make for good drifting off to sleep tv.

Cherry I'd be telling your aunt that I'd be calling the police if she laid a finger on my DC!

Alice that's quite a list - you're intimidating me again!

Odd little thing with my IL's today. I decided that I wanted a lambskin and then mentioned (was it MrsZac's?) comments about the Merino lambskins at the babyshow to DH. So he decides if we are to have one it is to be a proper Australian lambskin and is sure his parents will be quite excited at being able to get something we want for LO which is proper aussie so today he is speaking to PIL on the phone and mentions it and their only comment is that it will be too expensive to post and we would be better just to get one here. I felt really sorry for DH - I had told him not to assume that his PIL would pay for anything but he didn't even get the chance to say he would send the money and he is seeing my parents getting quite excited about LO and buying little things and - it was just a shame.

Anyhoo - have a great day ladies. Counting down until Sunday night now and having my bed to myself for a few nights

neenz · 07/05/2010 11:28

Aw Aussie your poor DH, hopefully his parents were just trying to be helpful ie saving you money rather than being dismissive.

Cherry, at yout aunty. She has no right to touch your children, or to tell you how to parent them. She sounds jealous of you.

Well I am glad the Tories haven't got a majority but a bit concerned about the uncertaintly. I voted Labour and they kept their seat here (they kept all their seats in Merseyside)

MrsZac I'm going to go find you on FB - I remember your name cos it is my sister's first name and my mum's maiden name! Then I can make friends with everyone else

neenz · 07/05/2010 11:34

lol of course there are about a million people with your name on fb Mrszac! Can you (or someone) please find me? My first name is n i n a and second name k i l l e n, I have a blond bob, I don't think there are many people on fb with my name so you should be able to find me!

neenz · 07/05/2010 11:36

Well there are a few NKs actually - in my profile pic i am on my own with the shoulder-length bob

Chulita · 07/05/2010 11:52

Argh! I'm really peed orf at the mo. Mamas&Papas recently had a sale so I ordered a skirt from them that had £9 off. When it turned up I found out that I'm a size 12 in their shop rather than a 10 so I phoned up to see about exchanging it and apparently you can't. So I have to return it and place another order. But that'll cost me about £2 to return, £3.45 for the next one to be sent out and it's not on offer anymore so it's an extra £9. Argh!! Thing is I really like the skirt but I don't want to pay £15 on top of the £26 I already spent to buy it in the first place Every where else (jojomamanbebe, isabella oliver, mothercare, boots) will exchange an item bought online if it's the wrong size, why won't they?! Freaking overpriced rip-off merchants

I'm off to have a biscuit and a cuppa before I pop a blood vessel...

Jaysfourth · 07/05/2010 12:52

Hi to one and all waves

just popping in to say have made it to 24 weeks
LO kicking and rolling , thumping and hiccuping all day long (it seems!!) great to feel, sometimes quite irritating IYKWIM!!

love reading up on all your going's on, sorry i dont interject too much, but there is no way i can keep up with you all !!!

I would like to join the FB group, if you will allow me? I will request to join, I think you want my initials ? JA .

Will keep checking in, and maybe find time for FB too!!

24+3

soontobefatnat · 07/05/2010 13:03

Hi all,

Been trying to catch up after a week of not posting. Love to all with family/friend woes!

Feel like death warmed up today - got sucked into election coverage until 2am and was up at 7am. My skin has gone grey!! Interesting times we live in though - I'm intrigued as to what happens next.

Had a good 24 wk appt with my mw. Got the 'mean' one again, who reall wasn't mean and because I'm 24+3, she offered to fill in my HIP paperwork and forward date it to next week. So nice! Somewhat hilariously, she used a paper IKEA measuring tape to measure my uterus. Can't wait for the public sector cuts to kick in - LOL!

I probably won't be around much next week - moving to our new place on Monday... Sooo tired...

Have a nice weekend all!

weehector · 07/05/2010 13:43

Jeez, staying up til 5am wasn't the smartest move. I feel like I'm 'hung'over. Boom, boom. All v exciting politically though.

cherry I know it's easy for me to say this from the objectivity & distance of Hectorland, where I have no knowledge of the dynamics & history of your family, but your aunt's comments are laughable given her track record (6 in care!!) and if you should be upset at anything, it's the fact that you're allowing a mentalist like that get to you. (I'm sorry, I know she's still your aunt but there must be something really fundamentally lacking in her emotional makeup or physical capabilities for social services to remove her kids). I've obviously been reading too much Gwen Rankin, but this sounds more to do with her insecurities & emotional limitations - it's not rational to react to a 3yr old like that - than it is anything to do with your parenting or ds's behaviour which is that of a typical 3 yr old. Try not and get involved in a slanging match, show your mum the texts, let her know that DH is fully with you and make it clear that if there is any attempt by your aunt to involve herself in discipline, you will take steps to ensure she doesn't have any contact with them while you're there and/or involve the police if there is any physical chastisement..that is assault.

blueberries ooh Borough Market. Lucky you, get me a gallon of that apple juice they do and a huge sausage sandwich..and some ripe Brie & Parma ham. And a coffee & bread from Monmouth...

ElusiveMoose · 07/05/2010 13:46

Blueberries, I'm so jealous of your Borough Market trip. I used to practically live there on my Fridays off pre-DS, but haven't been for 3 years . Is the operatic fruit and veg man still around?

Aussieng · 07/05/2010 14:14

LCR - is it your wedding day tomorrow? If so huge best wishes and good luck and have a fab time.

bouncingblueberries · 07/05/2010 14:15

Well, Borough Market was just fab! Bought the most delicious strawberry tart, some sausages from the Ginger Pig and a ridiculous pink cupcake for ds. It was freezing though, so we didn't stay long. I've never seen the operatic fruit and veg man elusive! Must look out for him next time. weehector your order is on the table

Knackered now. Have promised my boys steak pie for dinner so better get cooking. Think I might be a bit anaemic, so the red meat should do me some good too! Just want to snooze, but ds has football (well, running around vaguely kicking a ball as 4 year old do!) in a couple of hours - really can't be bothered taking him! Bad, bad mummy!

bouncingblueberries · 07/05/2010 14:16

alice I love that crib! Really, really want a swinging crib now damn you!

ElusiveMoose · 07/05/2010 14:40

Oh, he was great. He worked at the big fruit and veg stall in the main market (can't remember its name). Someone told me he could sing really well, and I thought 'yeah, yeah'. Then the first time I heard him..... He just launches into an aria, and it's seriously like listening to Pavarotti. Amazing. Maybe he's gone, or maybe he only does Saturdays .

Alicetheinvisible · 07/05/2010 15:05

Our fruit and veg men are funny, but thank god they don't sing!

Blueberries i am convinced the swinging crib is the reason DD learnt to self settle so early on (will test this theory with the bump too) We are welcome to the family one again but it really is enormous.

We are desperate (well DH mostly) for this but every Argos we have tried has completely run out (it is in the clearance section) and it is a good £25 more expensive everywhere else

DD (2.6) informed me she would like to use the toilet today and did! Not interested in the potty whatsoever

CherryPie3 · 07/05/2010 15:15

Hello - well, a hung parliament eh? What happens now?

Thank you all for the supportive comments about my Aunt. You're all right, she's really not the right person to lecture me on parenting. DS is a lovely well behaved little boy, and for her to react that way is ing.
I've told mum there's gonna be trouble of Auntie ever lays a finger on my children - she already knows how furoius I am over the whole thing.

Weehector To says you know nothing of my family you got it exactly right, she is a mentallist

Alice That crib is so sweet

Aussie Your poor dh, hope he doesn't feel that they don't want to be involved. Sounds like they were thinking of your best interests financially.

Chulita Think I would be rather annoyed at them too . Maybe if you stamp your feet enough they'll honour it for you?

Nat An ikea tape . Glad your appointment went well tho

Blueberries Mmmm.....strawberry tart

Showed dh the crib last night and to my intense surprise he loves it and thinks it would be better than a moses basket . So, we're gonna be ordering that crib at £39.99, the mattress is just £9.99 so will cost us just short of £50 altogether - which is still less than a moses basket and a stand. I'm a very happy CherryPie today

In other news.....I forgot to buy the change mat yesterday - god knows how cos it was the last thing I told myself before leaving work at 9pm. Asda is just round the corner, a 5 minute drive from work and I clean forgot even though I had to drive past Asda to get home. Pg brain!!

CherryPie3 · 07/05/2010 15:20

Alice Yay for your dd using toilet !!!!

And that swingis excellent - it's got great reviews!! We had a swing for ds but he wasn't interested in it at all, so maybe not bothering this time around.

Alicetheinvisible · 07/05/2010 15:26

Thanks Cherry need to get a toddler seat for the loo now though......

I need to get a change mat too. Need to have a look around first.

Neenz i sent you a FB friend request (i think it is you )

LCRLCR · 07/05/2010 15:53

aussieng our wedding is next Saturday and I am beyond excited especially as our family and friends are now starting to arrive from South Africa and Ireland (where DP and I are from). Although - naughty bump - it has GROWN over night but I've now had my final dress fitting! Ooops.....!

DP is on his stag in glamourous Bournemouth so I'm looking forward to a little breahter (and a lot of spring cleaning) this weekend before chaos descends.....

How much champagne can I have on the big day....1? 2?

Alicetheinvisible · 07/05/2010 15:57

Champagne glasses are very small, so as long as you are eating as well....although you may want to do it when nobody is looking as some people think it is VERY WRONG

Just to remind you ladies that Toys R us have a lot of decent baby stuff and a good price too.

Nikalah · 07/05/2010 17:00

Sorry for your family woes Cherry I have an arse of a sister and an angry toss-pot of a brother but your Aunt really takes the biscuit - you can see why she had her SIX children taken away. Still you can't choose you family!

Aussie feel a real pang of sadness for your DH and his parents reaction.

LCR I live in central Bournie and it's stag/ hen season! & you are so right.... it's the height of glamour! Some of the sights are hilarious. (hence why we're moving!). Champagne, water it down with peach juice? Bellini-tastic!

I went to my first NCT class last night - which was quite funny, although I'm the last one due which is a bit disappointing, whilst all the other mums are worried about cracked nipples - I'll still be crapping myself worried about the birth. It also transpired we're miles behind everyone else in preparation for the baby, so promptly spanked £150 on useless themed nursery items from Mamas & Papas, (that's the HIP grant gone) I consoled myself that there was 20% off on the Gingerbread range - which I love.

Also have sold my beloved MX5 at a very impressive loss and bough a much more buggy friendly motor. Torturous but necessary.

Have a great weekend

girlsyearapart · 07/05/2010 18:41

LCR I reckon 2 glasses should be fine but would be better to have 4 bucks fizzes or bellinis then you feel like you've had more!

Emster30 · 07/05/2010 19:25

hiya all, I'm shattered but not as much as my DH who is already asleep. just had fish and chips and it was yum.

WE have a family swinging crib too which was DH's when he was little - not planning to get a moses basket as well as I think it should do. might change our minds though.

sorry not v coherent tonight!
