MrP has arrived home with a stinky gorgeous Epoisses cheese. He is now baking some crusty French bread and is about to eat the stinky cheese in front of me!

I know I'm not supposed to eat this stuff, but:
a) should I just eat it anyway?
b) if not, what punishment is appropriate for him?

CUNextTuesday · 03/04/2010 20:12

Eat the stuff, do it. French women wouldn't have qualms and would get stuck in.

Today I had soft boiledy egg for brekkie followed by a prawn and crayfish buttie at lunch, followed by homemade Carbonara for tea where the eggs in the sauce may or may not have been cooked through

carrotsarenottheonlyvegetable · 03/04/2010 20:35

pandy good on you for doing the lead rein class LC challenged me to a race today while out walking wooffie, and like an idiot I did so. I managed about 10 strides, still couldn't keep up (with a friggin FIVE year old - I used to run for my SCHOOL) and then felt like he was gonna fall out of me with some very mean sharp cervical pains which are still going on

Lots of hip pain recently too, although nothing SPD-ish, level-wise.

However, ski as c says, abdo pains are fine, if, like, a pain. Don't worry.

pony eat the cheese. My dad's fond of stinky cheese but mum hates it so it's usually 3 weeks out of date when we go for dinner, as he's not worked his way through it. Doesn't stop me .

Other than the pains, had a lurvely day. Mooched around doing housy jobs like a bit of tidying, filling up bird table, bit of washing etc this morning, followed by a nice dog walk. Then trip to camping shop where have decided on a fab new tent with 4 bedrooms (one for us, one for each child and a storage room), large central area and a porch for woofle. Then went swimming at MIL's pool (LOL hark at me, Northern Tory, parents who drive horses and MIL with a pool) and LC was brilliant, really tried very hard to swim without arm bands. Was very proud . Swimming seemed to really help me achy bits so we're going again on Monday.

skihorse · 04/04/2010 09:17

Thank you everybody for your thoughts on the "pains", it's only a fraction of a second I worry "Is this labour?" but he's very active. It occurred to me yesterday evening that this is one of the reasons I've been so pooped the last few days - he's been kicking constantly and it's exhausting. Doesn't help that I'm up at half four daily...

pony How was your cheese? I wouldn't worry about it. When was the last time you heard of anyone dying from cheese? You're more likely to fall on your arse in the kitchen looking for a packet of Jacob's than you are to get ill from it!

cunty I had words with someone last week about the raw egg thing as I felt she was contradicting herself. A lion-stamped egg either is or izn't right? So what difference does it make if it's been boiled for 30 minutes or is raw?

OP posts:
carrotsarenottheonlyvegetable · 04/04/2010 09:32

ski well if it's cooked any salmonella will be destroyed? not sure you're asking that. But lion eggs (or rather chickens) are innoculated so shouldn't have it anyway... (or am I missing something?)

Going to set up an easter egg hunt for LC and two visiting boy and girl soon. Have a few packs of little tiny eggs for them to find, ie we'll open the packs and put one here, one there, etc. So that's one for LC, one for VG, one for VB, one for me. One for LC, one for VG, etc .

casper congrats on new niece!!!

skihorse · 04/04/2010 09:41

rots That's exactly the point I'm making. The woman said a lion egg was OK if cooked, but you couldn't make your own mayo with a lion egg because it was raw. So my point was exactly that, is it fucking innoculated or is it not? She just couldn't see the logic in that.

Enjoy the hunt - I am off chocolate.

OP posts:
CurlyCasperReturns · 04/04/2010 11:37

Back on the choc here. Lying on bed with laptop and baby name books, waiting for SFF to bring drinks, choccie eggs and power supply so the find-a-name mission can continue.

I'm trying to convince him that water fairies/elfs/sprites etc make good inspiration for naming a little girl who will be encouraged to partake in water sports...so far I've had lots of vetoes

apparently, "Nerissa" sounds too much like "Melissa the pisser". And that's the level of our cultured conversation

Thanks for the niece congrats - got more pics through yesterday and I just want to steal her already! My own daughter is now bursting to get out. The dog accidentally rabbit-foot kicked my belly earlier and baby has been making my bump jump ever since. She seems ok.

Back to the books

skihorse · 04/04/2010 11:42

Well... if you start discussing watersports I can see where he's getting "Melissa the pisser" from!

Sitting here making sure that DD doesn't eat too much chocolate in one go, I have idly searched for baby names for you Cas and have solved all of your problems. There are some lovely names here.

Have you asked SFF for a few suggestions? OH was obsessed with all names with 'Ann' in them, so came up with a list which comprised Suzanne, Vivianne, Angela, Joanne - you get the picture. Now I apologise if anyone here is actually called one of those nakes in RL, but they just didn't call out to me. So I put 'an' into a baby name search engine and it came up with Eleanor, which coincidently was on my list anyway, and that's what DD is called. I really liked Angelica too, but OH said it was the only 'an' related name he didn't like, and my sister said it reminded her of the horrible kid in Rugrats.

Whatever you do, make sure you have a naming strategy for the actual moment planned. We had decided we would see what she looked like when she came out and pick a name from our shortlist then, with Eleanor being the favourite. We hadn't counted on me being given a GA, and when I came round DD had been given a name in my absence, including a middle name I wouldn't have picked! OH panicked and didn't want her to be nameless.

CurlyCasperReturns · 04/04/2010 12:23

Thanks panda one of my faves is in that list but too close to new niece's name

We are going for the shortlist approach - I really don't feel we can name her till she arrives.

I think we have a couple of first names now, but middle names are starting a battle...

Ponymum · 04/04/2010 12:42

I ate a tiny bit of cheese - washed down with a generous glass of Viognier! Encouraged by your comments, I shall eat some more tonight.

We have a name picked out - in fact have had it picked as our boy's name since before the foal was born. But I now have an irrational fear that my friend who is due 2 weeks before me is going to call her son this name. There is no logic to my panic apart from the fact that I know she is having a boy and therefore will unknowingly steal our name.

We use local free range eggs. I don't think they have a lion stamp. Is this bad?

Erm, Happy Easter.

CurlyCasperReturns · 04/04/2010 12:46

SFF keeps coming back to Alice. All I can think is "who the fuck?".

Like flogging a dead horse...

Ponymum · 04/04/2010 12:52

ski I was browsing pony porn last night and found this one for you. Nice and local, and a good back up for Ginge. Should get your eventing career off to a good start. You're aiming for the Olympics, right?

cas Yes, that is a pity as Alice is otherwise a nice name. I like Polly, but MrP vetoed it as our last name starts with P and he didn't want our daughter to sound like a comic book character. The bump currently alternates between Peregrine and Percival.

carrotsarenottheonlyvegetable · 04/04/2010 20:04

ski aahhhh I understand. I didn't think it was your sort of question. But yes, clearly. pony no they're not bad .

cas I adore Alice and if LC had been a girl he'd have been Stephanie Alice with the Alice named after Alice in Alice in Wonderland. I don't think I've ever written "Alice" so many times in a sentence. As it was he was a girl, so we thought that he may be teased with that name, so we adjusted it to Peter after Peter Pan (as we're all going with being open about names!). It was also a family name, and his middle name is a family name and the surname of my best friends. I know that's a bit weird, naming him after books, but both were really important in our family, and my mum was named after a character in one of them and therefore I wanted to continue it.

This time I want Anthony as a middle name after my Grandfather and YOB's best friend, but YOB's not so sure. First names he wants Jamie, I want Toby, we can't agree.

But I do love Alice and if ours was a girl and our surname didn't start with A I would definately, absolutely be pushing for it.

My friend said that Toby was nice but we should call him Tobias so he's got a "full" name should he wish. Well, I thought, how can you lumber a Yorkshire lad with "Tobias" until she said our full name with a Yorkshire accent and actually "Tobias (Surname) from t'mill" in broad Yorkshire sounds ok .

Panda Peter wasn't named for a few days as we were convinced that he was a girl and we had no backup boy options! You have two weeks to register them so plenty of time! A friend who has one 2 years younger than mine didn't name hers until the last minute as they'd never had the names discussion once during the pregnancy, as she'd had 5 miscarriages (late) and they'd never expected a live birth On top of that she suffered from very severe hyperemesis which left her bed bound until about month 7 so they didn't talk about much really!

Cor I'm exhausted. YOB's friends up today from dahhn saath with their two kids - boy 6, girl 3. LC has not stopped ALL day. They've played brilliantly, but noisily, none-stop and we took them for a very long bike ride (we were out for about an hour and a half) with YOB and the boys riding, me and one friend walking while other friend helped little girl on her little bike. So with that and cooking two meals for 7 people I'm shattered! Fun though.

carrotsarenottheonlyvegetable · 04/04/2010 20:08

"As it was he was a girl". Clearly I meant BOY. Duh.

CurlyCasper · 04/04/2010 21:05

i know a Tobias and he is from Yorkshire

carrotsarenottheonlyvegetable · 05/04/2010 09:12

Well there we are cas!!

Another tiring day coming up. Kiddie party this morning, followed by a promised trip to the fair here at the mo, then swimming with his friend this afternoon but I may cry off that. I think that gentle swimming was good for me but being in a small pool with two children and 2 other adults may not give me the nice, gently support which helped me before! I think I'll stay in and write some NCT stuff I need to do. Or sleep .

Hope you're all well and enjoying your Easter break.

carrotsarenottheonlyvegetable · 05/04/2010 09:44

Just seen this linked to on an AIBU thread:

Hilarious

skihorse · 05/04/2010 10:34

ponymum VERRRRRRY bad. Non-lion stamped eggz = the badness! I think it was on iggy's article it states that they tested x000 eggs for salmonella. Which percentage had it? Erm, zero. Not one itsy bitsy teeny ickle egg had it. Brie & raw egg smoothie it is then. Nom nom.

rots I've been worrying about names from the pov of what if Julian has a speech impediment? I can't help thinking of that Only Fools and Horses episode where the man sings "cwying". Also the middle name we've chosen ends in "sh" and my surname starts with "sh". If he's got a lisp it'll be a disaster. I think I'm worrying about this too much. A bloke at work didn't name either of his until the 1 month deadline.

Jailbait phoned his mum last night and she chastised him for not getting me an easter egg - his response? "Her people killed Jebus"!

Last night whilst getting myself off the sofa I was compared to an "upside down turtle". I've suggested he do the third trimester if it's so bloody funny.

I've just taken the dogs to the park on my own as he was cleaning (!), they're so good when they're out with me alone, I think they know I'm a bit slow right now. Off to the stables soon to see how Ms. Lovely is. Pony, that ponee is lovely but I'm going to waste my money on food/rent/etc.

Atm I'm trying to arrange a ski trip for Jan and have only found ONE canadian resort which does childcare for under 18 months. Wtf??? Whistler has an excellent local nanny service, "yes ma'am, that's $27 an hour plus tax for a minimum of 4 hours". 8 x 14 =

OP posts:
pandora69 · 05/04/2010 11:46

Fuck me Ski - I'm in the wrong job! We took a relative for the first 2 years (or in one case, a pregnant friend. Poor girl. She'll be getting me back though with her rocking tent at Badminton!) Mum, dad, SIL, sister, BIL and brother have all done their share of babysitting while I whizzed down mountains. I've also looked after best friend's DD and sister's screaming clingy child while they have skied. I managed 5 ski trips in that time span, and skied for at least 4 hours each day. This year we got free childcare, which was great - but I don't recommend the tour operator .

I would seriously look into how much it would be to pay for an extra holiday for someone. I'll be your babysitting ski-bitch!

As for speech impediments - HORMONES again! Why are you worrying about stuff like this? It'll most likey never happen, and even if it does it's not the end of the world. I had a speech impediment as a child, had speech therapy, lisp fixed and now I am the calm reassuring voice from the cockpit

I have 3 dozen non-lion stamped eggs I can't get rid of here. My hens must know it's Easter and have gone into egg laying overdrive. I sooo want a runny fried egg, but I know where my eggs come from

CurlyCasper · 05/04/2010 11:52

Had runny fried egg and chips for tea last night. Nom Nom! (classy Easter meal - but I was on my own). But it was stamped.

Off out to seafood restaurant this lunchtime...

CUNextTuesday · 05/04/2010 12:00

Loving the two finger salute to government propoganda goin on here. STUFF YOUR FOOD FASCISM THE PREGGOS ARE REVOLTING!!

nom nom nom butterscotch Green n Blacks...

Ponymum · 05/04/2010 13:03

ski That is extortionate! Can you google for other local providers? When we were at Morzine (in summer, to walk, not ski) a quick google revealed a local nursery which offered casual days, and a babysitting business which also rented cots and highchairs which was really useful. Also, is there gumtree in Canada? I had such a good experience last week with the Edinburgh student who helped us out, found through a gumtree ad. I imagine the resort would be more expensive, but still can't believe that rate.

Am really miffed that all this time I have been buying nice healthy ethical local free range eggs, only to now realise I am completely ignorant of the difference with the salmonella thing! I realise this is not the thread for stupid questions like this, but still, I feel really dumb. So the upshot is, if I want to go wild with runny eggs I should get some lion marked ones first? What a faff.

skihorse · 05/04/2010 14:25

Oooh gumtree is a cracking idea, will also ask on my "ski network" as one of the women is an instructor there and has lived there for donkey's... The resort (Lake Louise) which takes babies from 18 days is great... but I've spent more than 3 months there and I really fancied somewhere different this winter.

Pony the upshot of the salmonella tests have been, that out of 11,000 tested UNSTAMPED eggs, zero were found to have salmonella. I mean if the fucking chickens look minging I'd avoid, but if you're buying locally from nice hens, why the fuck not? It's not as if you're buying them from a back alley in Hong Kong is it?

OP posts:
Ponymum · 05/04/2010 14:49

Hmmm.. so ski you can afford 3 months at Lake Louise but can't afford a sad, homeless, Olympic event horse? Where are your priorities?

So it's important that they are nice hens? As opposed to mean, bitchy hens?
