switty Did you say Speculoos base?

honey It was at 19 weeks that my tummy went in to overdrive and became a proper preggo bump - literally went from podgy to proper bump in about 4 days. I am very, very happy with the Next maternity tankini.

curly Your saying that my stomach muscles were separating made me cry. Now I know it's just part and parcel of being a preggo and I'm just unlucky... but fuck it, I worked so hard to get tummy muscles and just before I conceived I was lifting 40kg with them. But what you said about "don't use them" makes sense, when I lie down in the bath it takes a lot of effort, and a little pain, to sit back up again. I hate feeling like a turtle on its shell though.

For the love of god whomever it was who was talking about the nipples, why, why, why would you want to squeeze them? That way madness (puking) lies!

rots - the weekend was lovely but jailbait did make me cry twice. Once on Friday when he wouldn't come with me to park the car (at first) - I was wailing so hard I nearly ran over children. On Saturday he made me cry by saying "I'm not coming to the BBQ tonight".

iggypiggy · 12/04/2010 15:23

rots have you tried the MN lemon drizzle cake recipe?? Highly recommend!

SomethingSuitablyWitty · 12/04/2010 15:35

I am (ironically) cheered up by the tales of other people's mad crying. It's crazy stuff. I am not usually like this, so hard to work out whether me or boyfy is more surprised.

carrots thanks for the thoughts on the tummy sensations. Round ligament, you say?Yay for some more googling to thoroughly explore that. Must admit though that the pain was not particularly severe. Or even pain, really. More tugging sensation.Hmm

Ski it is the cheesecake from the Belgian chain Exki (just like pret a manger really). It is incredibly delicious. If you can get it there, give it a whirl!

Ponymum · 12/04/2010 15:37

rots I have an amazing recipe for an apple cake - it has layers of sliced apples sprinkled with crumbly, buttery, cinnamony struesel layered all through the middle of the cake. Delish!

pandy My maths is just catching up with me. If you are having a 20th wedding anniversary, given your youthful good looks you must have got married when you were, erm, 12.

carrotsarenottheonlyvegetable · 12/04/2010 15:44

iggs and pony I am totally torn now! I have some apples stored from last season's crop which are great for cookers, and I have some cinnamon sticks and maybe groud cinnamon. I also love lemon cake! Would you both be able to point me in the direction of recipes PWWEEEZE?

Aww ski give him a kick in the bollocks. I've taken to prodding YOB everytime baby kicks me in bed, just so we're sharing. Coz I love him lots and wouldn't want him to miss out. He did mention something about childbirth and mild pain or something (can't remember the exact wording) so I (fairly gently) squeezed him in the balls. When he complained I pointed out that I didn't need them anymore.

Cosmosis · 12/04/2010 15:49

I?m afraid 19 weeks was about the height of the ?I just look like a fat lardarse? period for me, even if not for ski. Am 21wks now and it?s just starting to look bump like.

Ponymum · 12/04/2010 15:52

rots Re the 'not needed anymore' comment, I keep dropping not very subtle hints to MrP about his upcoming vasectomy. He seems to be avoiding the subject for some reason.
I shall contact you via work to send the recipe.

carrotsarenottheonlyvegetable · 12/04/2010 16:11

pony just seen that and written back

reginaMonologue · 12/04/2010 16:12

rots hehe - I shall remember your tip of sharing the baby kicks, OH will love that I'm sure, much as he loved me balling my eyes out on Sunday morning because everything was going wrong, the world was ending and I was inconsolable simply because I was unable to wrap a parcel in brown tape because my brain had stopped working... again.

On the cake topic, I'd put my favourites as pretty much anything from Annie Bell, though Delia does a lovely lemon layer cake.

Still for me though, you just can't beat a Krisy Creme doughnut. Man, I could eat a dozen without even blinking!

switty fwiw, I've been getting odd tugging/pulling twingy pain on either side and somewhere in the middle too. Comes and goes now and again, but usually worse if I don't think about how I'm moving (esp. when tossing and turning in bed). Now when I roll over it's a bit like one of those slow-mo shots you'd get of a hump-back whale jumping out of the water and doing a flip - no suitably majestic narration from David Attenborough however. .

SomethingSuitablyWitty · 12/04/2010 16:21

regina perfect description of the sensation and the majestic grace which I too now bring to bear on rolling over in bed. Hurray for shared symptom spotting. THis is the very biz.

VoilaAnotherGimlet · 12/04/2010 16:22

rots - have a look at ravelry.com - you have to apply to join but they have zillions of free knitting patterns and won't send you email updates when you have lost interest! Befriend me when you get on!

VoilaAnotherGimlet · 12/04/2010 16:27

For Rotty

Better Than Booties Socks

Super Quick Baby Socks

Spud & Chloe Jellybean Socks

I haven't tried any of these - barely been knitting this year. Must pick something up again soon - have bought loads of wool that's just sitting there unused.

iggypiggy · 12/04/2010 16:32

rots Lemon Drizzle wihc is very easy! But I make half the amount and do it in a loaf tin...

carrotsarenottheonlyvegetable · 12/04/2010 16:50

Thanks everyone! Got to run so can't reply right now but will do so later hopefully, if N&N don't take up whole evening!

xxx

rollerbaby · 12/04/2010 16:51

I feel sick from croissant pudding and apple tart.

Ponymum · 12/04/2010 17:08

honeybunny Croissant pudding and apple tart? Please explain. I mean, it's only 5pm. And I'm jealous.

pandora69 · 12/04/2010 17:25

I only went out for a couple of hours and missed loads - seems to be mostly about cake or knitting though.

Pony tis the anniversary of us being together, although we have been married for 14 of those 20 years. And yes, we were of legal age! Isn't the point of being a PESH to have gone about trying to preserve your youthful looks and lifestyle longer than is really natural?

Anyway - woo-hoo! Racehorse passed his medical. Fuck me - he is fast! May have to take him up to the gallops once t'babby is out and horse's brakes have been re-programmed.

rollerbaby · 12/04/2010 17:36

pony I might have gone to the shop and bought 2 cakes cos I couldn't decide. Not having dinner though, honest.

I also bought my first 2 maternity bras today. Disgusting things that make me look like I have a BOSOM. Not only do I have Montgomery thingys on my nipples but I have a shelf to replace what was on my chest before. My beautiful honeymoon Myla underwear has been relegated to the bloody bottom drawer never to be seen again.

reginaMonologue · 12/04/2010 18:11

Knitting, now there's a thing. I am a complete beginner at knitting, though I do enjoy it and would love to do just a simple something for my little one. I have already roped in my mother and her Greek contingent of knitting ho's to do a gorgeous cot blanket, and mother-in-law is a dab had at it to, so I've a chain gang on my side. Also I have this book which has some gorgeous things in it, if anyone is looking for something particular let me know and I'll scan in the destructions.

switty new symptom! First pregnancy zit, right on my chin. I haven't had zits since forever not even period ones! Oh, and I forgot to mention that I won't be going to the hairdresser until what appears to be pregnancy induced dandruff has dissipated.

CurlyCasper · 12/04/2010 18:17

Naughty, naught, evil PESHs!

I come home from tenancy interview, not a crumb of sweet delicousness in sight, and you've all been having a drool-tastic conversation about cake. WANT SOME NOW!

Have decided to not use my tummy muscles AT ALL. Hopefully this will end the post-gym-like ache. And to those of you approaching your first round ligament pain experiences, I say

  1. hold the offending area very tightly.
  2. Try not to sneeze while lying on your front
  3. Make no sudden movements in bed
  4. Get used to sharp, shocking pain!

It's all good though, even if you are convinced there is Something Seriously Wrong the first few times. And consider of all the other types of pain you have to look forward to. Think of it as broadening your horizons

Have batted eyes at potential future landlord and stroked his smelly old Labrador (very cute). Here's hoping our opposition turned their snooty noses up at the beautiful beast and were not able to deliver delighful conversation about Cheltenham Races, the Cotswolds, PHDs and the value of community...

CurlyCasper · 12/04/2010 18:18

p.s I'm pretty sure my montgomery's have always been quite visible. They just look different now. All gone quiet on the leak watch front. (and yes, I have stopped squeezing ski).

CurlyCasper · 12/04/2010 18:33

Just noticed that the NHS Pregnancy Desktop will take me into the third trimester this week. And my baby gaga thing says 100 days to go. This cheers me up muchly

SomethingSuitablyWitty · 12/04/2010 19:19

Tchah Reggie - I'll see your chin zit and raise you a fresh crop of upper chest spots. Not had those in many many moons. They are vile. But probably A Good Sign.

I am also cakeless curls, but fortunately had some pickle crisps in the house, which has helped muchly.

carrotsarenottheonlyvegetable · 12/04/2010 20:05

vag, iggs, pony huge thanks for the recipes and knitting stuff

reggie it's incredible isn't it, how your emotions just go totally haywire. I never got PMT n stuff so I'm not used to mood swings at all. They've settled now mostly but it was quite a shock when I was struck by preggo hormone nutty-making stuff . Hang fire lass, it will pass, then of course you'll have the baby and get the baby blues (I did, spot on day 3, lasted about 2 days). I remember walking down stairs in floods of tears and even worrying ex a leetle bit, and just saying over and over, "I'm fine, it's just my hormones, there's nothing wrong, I'm fine" and acutally FEELING fine but not being able to stop crying!
