Silver must have had her scan yesterday, just wondering how it went???

honey Elm Park?? I think they have 2 which could be near you. I moved from the area before I had the wee fella so he goes to nusery around here which is too far for you.

Pony glad you got what you want. It seems as long as you can give reason why and shown you have done your research and show you know what you are on about then you can get what you want.

VoilaAnotherGimlet · 09/04/2010 14:41

ski - that's pants, hope you're having a lovely day out to take your mind off it all for today.

pones glad the hospital's on the same page as you.

Magnums all round! (you can opt for bubbly or ice cream version...)

Ponymum · 09/04/2010 14:57

cossie Yes, and we had a really good experience last time. Definitely better than our other options further east or north, but I don't know anything about the options in your city so not sure how it would compare to them.

We made the decision after going on a mat ward tour (The Stork Walk) and talking to one of the midwives after that. They were so reassuring, and listened to us, and worked with us to plan and organise for all the weird requirements I had. Plus the women's physio dept is top notch - not that you need that cos you're all active and fit and whizzing around on your bike.

I'm so chilled. MrP asked (really tentatively) whether he could possibly go to some Joy Division/Depeche Mode concert thing 3 weeks before baby arrives. I said, oh yes, you should go, just get a baby sitter to help me for the night. He is so excited now. It makes me think I must usually be really mean and not let him do things....

VAG bubbles for me please!

reginaMonologue · 09/04/2010 14:58

pony was the c-section something you wanted (sorry, horridly behind on this thread!)? I guess it makes sense if that's what the docs are suggesting... I think there is something rather relieving about knowing when you're going to pop, but I'm one for confirmed dates and deadlines!

ski hope you have a good break away by the sea, if anything it'll give you plenty of time to ponder life, the universe and wtf to do next... just what you need innit!

I had my official booking appointment with the doctor yesterday where I got poked and prodded - in fairness it wasn't too traumatic except for the bit where he said he'd not expect me to put any more weight on with the exception of what made up the baby etc. Urgh. I then asked about exercising and he suggested nothing over 100bpm! Eeek! That's just like a stroll around the block, which I suppose isn't too arduous but not sure how it'll help with the weight control. I did ask him about numbers of calories (considering I can in fact eat nothing and still put weight on) and he reckoned some restriction is OK, cos the baby will get what it wants no matter what, so I've made a decision to be a bit more restrained in my choffing (in fairness, eating an entire pack of rowntree's pick and mix may have been a bit excessive in one sitting).

Got my first midwife appointment at the end of April, which will be exciting. To my surprise she's a welshy, which I kinda like because it reminds me of home! Was a bit disappointed that my first scan won't be dead on 12 weeks, more like 14 They do however do the downs test as standard, so it's opt out rather than opt in which has left me some thinking to do.

On a lighter note, got hubby to get involved with the pregnancy last night by letting him weigh my right boob so he could understand why I am having to physically manoeuvre both boobs in the night when I turn over. To his surprise, it was over 1KG! No wonder boned bra's are out for now, they'll just break unless made of strengthened steel. Ooo... excuse for more shopping :>

CurlyCasper · 09/04/2010 15:12

woo hoo it's a white magnum day! Cheers vag

FFS my back and ribs don't half hurt at the mo. Think I'm really ready to not be at work now. But there are still seven weeks to go...

I don't want to jinx myself, but have found another house in the country and have an interview with the landlord (country estate gentry) on Monday. Fingers and toes crossed big time.

Have a lovely weekend ski. Ouch! on the book front regina and well done for getting what you want pony. I kind of wish I had a set date for this little one's appearance...

Brie tart here for all of you. But it's gone a bit soft in the sunshine...

Ponymum · 09/04/2010 15:34

reggie Yes, because of the SPD and my particular situation. But I was also anxious not to just insist on a c-s without being sure it really was needed. So it is tres reassuring that the medics are confirming what my gut instinct has been.

curls Fingers crossed. Wear your best tweeds.

The brie tart sounds lovely. Can I have it with a wilting side salad and some salami that's gone all sweaty in the sun too?

CurlyCasper · 09/04/2010 15:41

pony. I might even have to borrow a pair of panda's Dubarry's. (Am actually thinking of getting SFF to turn up in his fire service shirt and trousers. Smarter than anything else he would normally wear, and he does start his shift a couple of hours after the interview begins).

Now, who's for some pate with the tart?

CUNextTuesday · 09/04/2010 18:49

I am Back, covered in spots but in every way de-wintered.

I won't piss you all off bore you with the details, suffice to say it was all ery lovely, and whilst I was having Reiki, Rastus went absolutely BESERK. When the guy had his hands over my eyes, head and shoulders I swear to god I have NEVER felt Rastus move so much in such a short time - like he was spinning. Then when the guy had his hands hovering over my tum he was completely still, not a peep. After tum knees and then he started up again. It was the strangest thing I have ever known. I'm thinking he took a dislike to my negative energy flow

VAG/cokie ref numbers game, mine is 15.

Ref sleeping on the righ - I can't do it any more. Esp when Rastus is head up because he uses my liver as a pillow. Acute discomfort.

carrotsarenottheonlyvegetable · 09/04/2010 19:00

Hi you chatty lot,

iggs so, so sorry about your thread friend. How absolutely awful

pony excellent news, I know that was really worrying you. One less thing to think about, and a big thing!! Did you fnd the car key?!

casper sorry about the aches

okie LOL @ Top Shop comment . I personally think it's disgusting that someone may shop there unless they're under 12 years old because otherwise they're clearly just too skinny and attractive .

ski have a fab time away. Suggest you try Freecycle for moses baskets as people give them away very regularly. I'll keep an eye out for you if you like, and if I get one I can bring it up. Unless you are specifically looking for brand new in which case I can't recommend anything other than the normal places.

cosmo I was vv proud of my little boy today, as he whizzed around on his bike, cosmo-style. We were teaching him how to do some offroading stuff, bumps, hills etc. He had a brilliant time. I said he's going to be a downhill mountain biker and YOB said most are. Once in California he went offroading with some friends. They came in a car with their bikes, and one friend went down on the bike, while the other came down in the car to pick him up and drive him back up the hill, then the second friend went down the hill. YOB just cycled back up...

pandie soooo lovely re chicks! Our second delivery on this thread, assuming cheg hasn't popped yet (still got that great vision with the snorkel going on).

vag I went for a walk through the countryside today but it was all over council owned land - does that make it a socialist country walk?

LC has gone off for a week now with ex, and I'm feeling pretty miz about it so lovely YOB is planning fun things for us to do. So strange, being without a child in the house. I know you first timers are worried about the change but believe me, within a few weeks you'll just wonder how you ever lived without them.

Ponymum · 09/04/2010 20:00

rots We eventually found the key. It was inside MrP's boot. Three guesses who put it there. It certainly gave us drama for a couple of days as when he phoned the dealer to find out how to get a new key they said 'Oh it's quite a job, and you have to bring the car in here'... um, how exactly...???

SilverSky · 09/04/2010 20:23

Bollox. I have typed my post three times and lost the effer.

I WONT DO IT AGAIN.

Ponymum · 09/04/2010 20:34

silver How's the grumpy preggy hormones?

Cosmosis · 09/04/2010 20:40

rots most mountain bikers are just mountain bikers, you don't get that many that just do dh, speshially not in the UK. Although on the holiday we go in we do get a van up sometimes.

silvs take it out on the oh and then come back and share again.

carrotsarenottheonlyvegetable · 09/04/2010 22:08

cos I think YOB was a bit bemused by the DH thing - seemed to be more of a thing in the US. I used to MB when I was a student and loved just getting places I wouldn't normally see - it was like riding horses but needing a bit more energy . Anyway, we're teaching LC that what goes down must come up (especially as we live on the top of a hill) and the rule is, if he wants to ride his bike he has to ride or push the bike himself. Evil mamma.

silver did you just have a scan? How went it?

pony LOLOL, as you say, how do you get it there???!!!

carrotsarenottheonlyvegetable · 09/04/2010 22:09

cunty glad you had a fab time Sounded lurvely.

Cosmosis · 09/04/2010 22:13

you do right, I never enjoy the downs unless I've earned them! Besides I'm a bit weird and I like climbing. I think it's very different in countries with big mountains though, just becuase of the time it takes to climb. Like I said, in Italy we do use some uplifts, but the mountains are somewhat higher than the Yorkshire Alps

rollerbaby · 10/04/2010 13:18

Hello everyone hope you are all enjoying the sunshine with large glasses of pimms/white wine/poison of choice. I have a cold and am therefore too grumpy to post much.

Cunty your reiki sounds amazing. Lucky you. I would like to be pampered. Where did you go again? Was it good value etc? How far to drive? I need me some of that. At the moment I am emailing downstairs for toast/hot lemon and honey etc.

Silver, yes how was scan? Update please.

My 12 weeks is Friday coming. Nervous.

On the good side have just booked a holiday for June and CAN'T WAIT. Only thing is realised week 2 is 20 weeks. Doesn't matter if not bang on presumably?

SilverSky · 10/04/2010 13:28

Am going to try and post AGAIN.

Have been out for lovely two hour hack. Horse feeling spritely and bit gobby, think horse needs touch more exercise. I feel a hard lunging session in the pipeline will do the trick.

Lush day out there eh girls? Husband is out and about and I have just troughed a whole Easter again and I have the washing machine on the go also. .

Okay okay, I hear ya! You wanna know about the scan.

Its official and I have my very own baybee. Just the one. Luckily!

Baby was very jumpy and kept doing these like belly flops upwards bouncing up and down.

FMC is brilliant, got kept waiting quite awhile and the man who took my blood ignored my pleas of being a wimp and felt like he shoved the needle up my arm, but then I could be exaggerating! I was looking at Husband for support but he had his eyes closed the whole time cos he then informs me blood makes him feel faint!!

Initially my stats gave the Downs as 1 in 287 and after the scan etc, its now 1 in 5780 something. Lovely Dr said that she would not recommend any invasive tests and feels they are not necessary for me.

Felt like I wanted to pee the whole time during the scan and that was without a full bladder. Very strange feeling seeing the baby on the scan isn't it? Surreal even.

Husband is very pleased and we went to Ed's Diner to celebrate!

EDD is 21 October.

MIL thought we were going to show her a piccie of a new puppy that we were going to buy!! When she saw the scan she shrieked and was very excited.

Told SIL who is over the moon also. BIL told me that obv no more horse riding or anything to do with horses, I said of course, I'll need to be careful/sensible and filed that comment away.

Got to tell my BF when I see her next week then I have to tell work also.

Any tips on how/what I should say??????

CUNextTuesday · 10/04/2010 16:31

'I'm booking a medium-term sabbatical...'

CUNextTuesday · 10/04/2010 16:32

Congrats on everything being tip top - hard to believe until you see it in B&W (and sometimes for a significant amount of time afterwards )

CUNextTuesday · 10/04/2010 18:15

Rastus has hiccups

Ponymum · 10/04/2010 18:46

silver 1 in 5780 is very good stats. So glad it all went well.

I am pooped. This morning I tidied the house and made a batch of muffins. Because this afternoon we had a visit from some friends from our old antenatal class.

Their boy is very big and the mum made several comments to me like 'You're not too concerned about her development, are you?'

I wanted to reply, 'No I'm not concerned at all, but aren't you worried about the fact that you have spawned a lumbering giant?'

Of course I kept my mouth shut. Ladies, you have all this to look forward to.

rollerbaby · 10/04/2010 19:40

pony that is serious restraint. I would have lamped the silly bitch.

carrotsarenottheonlyvegetable · 10/04/2010 21:17

silver that's fantastic! Lovely reaction from your MIL! My friend kept riding until she was about 8 months, and fell at a gallop at 7 months, and her little boy is now a healthy 18 month old and utterlyb perfectly gorgeously scrummy.

pony fuck me, that's rude. How very annoying. LC is a big lad (very tall and skinny) but all the men in his genetic father's side are really tall so although I'm a short arse I am assuming he'll just be like that. But most people have always thought he was older than he is. I've had comments from people about him being a "big lad" but nothing rude other than when he was a babe and fully BF people kept telling me that I was cruel to BF as he was so big and couldn't possibly keep up. . Why on earth anyone with a big child would consider that a smaller child (whether she's average or small for her age) was therefore abnormal is just ignorant. Sorry you had to go through that .

Hope ski is enjoying her weekend away. Mine's going well, although I'm missing LC. YOB and I attacked a huge climbing rose in our walled garden which took several hours, and removed some overgrown bushes in there. After a good tidy up it's looking beautiful. It's a lovely space, a room in the ruins of an old hall that our house is built in, the only really complete room left although it's the bottom storey only with no roof, so it's like a walled garden. It's a total suntrap so we grow figs in there, and I've bought a blueberry and kiwi plant today to grow too. We've got some other walls from the ruins which are very bare, so I've put in a raised bed on the stone floor and plan to grow veggies in it, as again they're sun traps.

I'm really excited about getting it all looking nice, although sadly we really do need to sell as it's not our house (belongs to MIL) and while we live here rent free, we really want to get our own place. Nice while it lasts though!

carrotsarenottheonlyvegetable · 10/04/2010 21:18

LOL cunty I haven't had that yet but remember it from LC. It's so cute!
