OH is most displeased that I have re-taken control of the preggo pillow since actually being pregnant again. He's been in love with it for the last couple of years! Something wrong with that, I think.

CUNextTuesday · 07/04/2010 11:00

cos yessum we has a whole heap of farmyard shiz - all the cardies and rompers that mum has made have aminals on them. Cos I is from farming stock innit and the first thing I predict this child will do once it can toddle is get muddy. Will get some photos up of the stuff mum has made when I get back from Raggy, it is to die for. Luffs me mammy I duz.

Cosmosis · 07/04/2010 11:20

Ooh home made farmyard shiz.

carrotsarenottheonlyvegetable · 07/04/2010 11:23

Is anyone else getting braxton hicks? I've really been noticing them the last few days (prob because I've been doing too much).

Ponymum · 07/04/2010 11:34

Please can someone direct me to the willy cap thing? I've not heard of this and don't really want to google it.

reggie The first time I looked after my niece and nephew I managed to lock her in the car on a hot day, and while waiting for the AA to arrive with flashing lights my nephew ran off and somehow found himself a razor blade to play with. I was a wreck for weeks afterwards. This was about 13 years ago and I suspect was formative in my meh attitude to ever having kids of my own (until the desperation kicked in age 37).

We have had a terrible night. After going on about how great it is to live on a farm we had an episode with this strange alarm in one of the barns which seems to go off for no reason in the middle of the night. We do not know what the alarm is for. The farmer is deaf. It went off at 2am and woke up the foal, who wouldn't go back to sleep. After hours of crying MrP took her for a drive (at 30 mph as he was so tired he was scared to go any faster) and when he got back at 5am the alarm was still going! Farmer has now showed us how to turn alarm off but WHY do they have an alarm if it's not important and they aren't monitoring it? And why should we have to schlep down to the end of the farm at 3am? Why don't they just, er, deactivate the bloody thing?

Sorry, sleep deprivation making me cross.

rots Please do less.

CurlyCasper · 07/04/2010 11:43

arrrggggggggg mother fucking bastards! We don't event get to view dream house in the country tonight because landlord has now told the agent that he has a tenant. NOT FAIR! we are surely better people than whoever he has got...

ski yes, I was imagining what cheggs said when i touched the offending nip last night. But it was much more tame and less "boak" for me. Sure that will change. Hope cheggs is ok and has not drowned in the bath.

cos I thinks they might be leaking if you are finding dried up crusty bits. (impressive at 20 weeks) Mine are lovely and flaky at the mo. Vaselined them up last night. Not liking the state of my Mongomery glands or whatever you call them. Looks like a ring of acne spot scabs (TMI?)

sorry about no sleep pone, here come rest your pretty head on my crusty bosoms while I plot to steal your home...

OkieCokie · 07/04/2010 12:06

Pandy sounds like an excellent bit of retail therapy there. At least it is something you like and want unlike some things I have bought on t'internet like ugly draft excluders or a dehumidifier. I am currently looking at garden sheds (a tree fell on ours and broke it) but a race hoss sounds far better.

Talking about nips my certainly have little spots round the nip area which I am sure were not there before. Curly are you squeezing them??!

iggypiggy · 07/04/2010 12:07

Hello all - am back and have bought buckets of easter chocolate for you all

I haz been away. In the country.

I'll catch up wiv posts a some point I guess... but was liking the dutch werds

Things I have done:

Had v. small sit/ ride on horse
Seen my horse settled into his new home
Got more like a hippo
Realise that I need a little sit down half way around the dog walk
eaten own bodyweight in chocolate

And I haz a question... regarding sleeping on left side... Now I suspect that most of us on this fred like to do a little/ fucking loads of research. I love it - I read up on everyfing... Now.. this sleeping ont he left side business... I am struggling to find peer reviewed journal type research that actually supports doing this... can anyone help? (Please not to post links to sites from baby world etc. that seem to have no backing to their words). I did find one canadian paper that says it doesn't matter - see here

And my yoga teacher said that most midwives say that this left side sleeping thing is a bit of a myth... Who knows if the yoga teacher is a reliable source tho

Has anyone found any proper research on this stuff? Not that it really matters - but i far prefer sleeping on my right...

OkieCokie · 07/04/2010 12:15

Iggs does this help

iggypiggy · 07/04/2010 12:19

Thanks cokes - I haz seen that one but it doesn't give sources? All of the advice says the same about not sleeping on back cos of Vena cava - I do get that bit... but the reason for sleeping on left seems to be vauge and related to possibly having less pressure on liver and increased blood flow? But What I really want to know is whetehr anyone has done any proper research into whether sleeping on the left actually increase the chance of you baby being in the right position?

carrotsarenottheonlyvegetable · 07/04/2010 12:19

iggs I've never seen any research as it happens, but I did find out (buggered if I know where, probably babyworld) that lying on the right side squashes the liver, and cunty mentioned she can feel this. I can't.

Lying on my back hurts my pelvis and lower back but I have a slipped disk in lower back so it's pressing on that.

I do tend to find that I wake up on my back in bed, although the support of the bed means it's not hurting my back, so the old bod must be saying it's ok and comfy.

Not at all what you're asking for, obviously. I'll get me coat.

carrotsarenottheonlyvegetable · 07/04/2010 12:21

ski I ordered a preggo pillow and need to chase it up. V expensive too, want it NOW. Have been sleeping with a normal one between my legs for months, much more comfy than no cushion but needing an old pillowcase as feel that using a guest pillowcase up against my duff for months is a bit yuck.

Anyone want to come and stay at my house?

iggypiggy · 07/04/2010 12:22

rots is helpful tho I can't sleep on back at all - makes me feel sick...

CurlyCasper · 07/04/2010 12:23

okie nope, they have flaked over of their own accord. Nice.

iggs I missed yoooooooooo. Thanks for the choc. I have seen no research on leftism. Yoga teacher was only one to give me an explanation, which all related to making sure baby was facing right way when it comes out. She made us do all lying down exercises on our left. But when I mentioned that I was glad my baby liked the left to my MW last week, she raised an eyebrow and said "well they've got to turn to come out anyway". so she clearly didn't give a damn. She seemed more surprised that my baby seems to be head up all the time... (Making me start to fear breech birth, but there's time yet)

I have also heard that it's to do with blood flow with heart being on the left. No idea.

I have been sleeping on my right, but have found a way, with cushions, of rolling quite far over so that the right side of my bump is squashed (only water there anyway so not painful). In that position, baby doesn't stand a chance of moving to the right!

carrotsarenottheonlyvegetable · 07/04/2010 12:24

BTW hi iggs, good to see you .

I understand that far more important for optimal foetal positioning is using a preggo ball loads, from around 30 weeks onwards (or maybe a bit later), and not sitting slouched on the sofa and stuff. Lots of crawling or just being on all fours (clean the floor or something) also helps a lot. Certainly sitting and leaning on my ball and going on all fours really takes the pressure on my pelvis.

I plan to do loads of this because LC was back to back and it was quite a problemo, although I was lucky to get him out within 12 hours which is unusual for a B2B labour.

iggypiggy · 07/04/2010 12:29

cas fanks - obv. missed everyone too I sleep fairly rolled over too... seems comfy enough!

Rots I haz pregnancy pillow - have had since about 19 weeks is bestest thing ever - slept loads better as soon as I used it.

I have ball - is comfy for sitting watching tv - sofa too slouchy...

CurlyCasper · 07/04/2010 12:32

Widespread belief that sleeping on left prevents posterior labour. Yoga teacher said to start worrying about it from 34 weeks, but to get used to sleeping on left anyway

positioning baby to avoid posterior labour

and now I'm thinking she might be breech and posterior!

carrotsarenottheonlyvegetable · 07/04/2010 12:33

iggs try this website www.homebirth.org.uk/ofp.htm

Ignore the homebirthy stuff, this page is really interesting about foetal positioning. I can see a lot of what they say, niggly days before going into labour as LC was trying (and failing) to turn around, etc. He DID turn around eventually before delivery but it was well into the labour when he did so.

HTH

carrotsarenottheonlyvegetable · 07/04/2010 12:35

Interesting reading, cas. WTF:

"Being sifted with a rebozo and/or having myofascial release of your abdomen (diaphragmatic release) and sacrum (standing sacral release) are usually necessary to reposition the head of an OP baby which is behind an anterior placenta."

But PLEASE don't be worrying about breech at this point. It's WAY too early. She'll be swimming around in all directions for AGES yet.

iggypiggy · 07/04/2010 12:36

Fanks PESHalinas

cas how common is anterior placenta - out of interest? Mine is posterior... is it 50/ 50 or is one more common than the other?

CurlyCasper · 07/04/2010 12:38

There's not enough room for me, SFF and my preggo pillows. I do find it comfy, but end up feeling trapped when I need to pee in the middle of the night!

I have taken to wedging myself in with the duvet instead

CurlyCasper · 07/04/2010 12:42

iggy posterior is more common. Both rotty and i are anterior.

rots I know I should not worry, but this baby really doesn't turn around much. She's been in the same place for all my scans and MW apps. Most of the kicks are way down below my belly button and are frequent enough for me to know she's not spending much time the other way around!

I'm not going to panic though - it's just typical for any child of mine to be awkward

Cosmosis · 07/04/2010 12:47

curls wasn't clear, I know they must be leaking becuase of the crusty bits, but have not caught them at it yet!

I'm not that surprised it's early, I have a history of raised prolactin hormone, which is related to all that shiz.

VoilaAnotherGimlet · 07/04/2010 13:03

hey ladies! just attempting to catch up after elongated long weekend (niece's birthday Thurs, off sick yesterday and too lazy to wait for ancient laptop to boot up)

Which preggo pillows are the best? - the long sausage ones? have been using TSF's spare pillow (I like to make the bed up with two each but he abandons one in the night) but it seems to be taking up all the space (note to self: buy bigger bed next time) I'm def comfire on my right side too - get a sort of pokey feeling on my left (poss due to constipation....again) I really miss sleeping on my back but it makes me feel peculiar, and I can't even sleep on my side int he usual manner as that's too much on my tummy. Hence no sleep - and not even a farmer to blame it on.

Easter with the in-laws......three loooooong days - took to hiding upstairs eventually. And snarling. AIBU to think that between TSF's parents and two adult siblings they could have at least come up with a poxy bottle of wine? We ended up supplying all the food and drink and the siblings simply went home when they'd had enough. There was a lot of sitting around in our house cos no one could decide what to do either. (I could have given them a few suggestions by the end of the weekend...) Anyone in a one-bed house want to swap for a two bed?

iggypiggy · 07/04/2010 13:03

cos forgot to say - I iz getting that too
