Fingers crossed here too.

Firsttimer2010 · 10/04/2010 16:10

Fingers crossed here too.

Went to GP yesterday need to give a water sample on Monday to get pregnancy confirmed by the lab, should get results on Wednesday.

Also got really severe case of pregnancy brain: yesterday I forgot to take my lunch to work then today I went to the paper shop not realising I had odd shoes on. Really don't know how I didn't notice. Husband found it hillarious.

RaceyLacey · 11/04/2010 08:28

Hi, how is everyone? I'm bloody huge! My body def seems to be remembering what it needs to do. I'm almost as big now as I was at 40wks with ds1. Have also had a few 'pregnant dreams' already and I think I'm going to suffer with ms this time orund too .

TheBronzeHorseman · 11/04/2010 11:52

Morning all.

Racey, yay, I'm due on your birthday! Am really hoping this one is going to be as punctual as DS was. With him, my waters broke on my EDD and he was born the following morning.

crazykat, congratulations!

moomaa and onlywantsone and all you others of the increased boobage - am very . Mine haven't grown an inch.

haven'ttolddhyet, if you're reading, I keep thinking of you and hoping all is well and that it was just a one-off bleed. Fingers tightly crossed.

Crossing everything for you HaventtoldDHyet.

crazykat · 11/04/2010 15:37

Who ever came up with the term morning sickness either had a bad sense of humor or was a man - i seem to have it all day, i've even woke up in the night feeling sick.

LittleSnoo · 11/04/2010 23:55

Hello all, please may I join you. Had BFP on Tuesday and am out of the country at the moment and away from home so feeling a little fragile. Also worrying about malaria, food poisoning, over heating etc. Just had to navigate myself through a dinner where seafood, liver, chocolate mousse and champagne were the only things on the menu! Can't wait to get home and get to my GP.

I'm 32, this is my first pregnancy and have only been trying for 1 month so a bit of a shock. I did the due date calculator and gave me 12th December. We decided to try and then had to go away at short notice - also didn't think it would happen so soon as we are both over 30 and I have endometriosis - so a bit of bad timing really although I am still really happy and excited. I was having what I thought was killer PMT and even mild period pains so thought I definitely wasn't pregnant. Is anyone else having stomach ache?

heading4home · 12/04/2010 11:10

Congratulations LittleSnoo! Are you on holiday? If so, I hope you can relax and enjoy yourself, despite the worries.

Just adding myself to the list! Now that I've had a couple of weeks to get used to the idea and am passed the 6 week mark, it feels a little more real. Been feeling really nauseous, but if it stays at this level, I can deal with it.

LittleSnoo · 12/04/2010 12:10

Thank you very much heading4home. Out here doing a bit of work actually with DH, a sort of skills exchange, but have a few days now to lounge around by the pool - thankfully. Flying home on Wednesday night and will try to get at appointment with my GP on Friday. I'd love to add myself to the list when I get home and it feels a bit more real.

heading4home · 12/04/2010 15:39

Finally got around to ringing the GP this afternoon, and they haven't got a free appointment until NEXT Friday (23rd)
I'll be almost 8 weeks by then...

Still no idea how things work in this country (Switzerland) which is a bit disconcerting. I need to chat with someone who's been through it all here I think. Will confide in my colleague tomorrow.

ebrookm · 12/04/2010 15:44

Please, may I join you? I hope it is o.k. that I add myself to the list.

I have been feeling quite disorientated and a strange calmness coupled with waking up in the middle of the night with ms and my breasts are tingly and huge!

Other than that I am letting it all sink in and trying to eat well and keep all stress under control.

I'm so happy for each of you as this is such a fantastic adventure! Because this is my first, I am not sure what to expect, but just returned from my appointment with the GP who confirmed my pregnancy and I will return in 4 weeks.

The nurse did not take any blood sample or tests except a urine test. Is this normal for your first antenatal appt?

I hope you have a nice holiday LittleSnoo and my heart goes out to you HaventtoldDHyet. xx

ebrookm · 12/04/2010 15:46

I agree with heading4home and would love to hear from Mum's who have already been through the antenatal process.

My experience was a bit quick and I was expecting a more thorough check up for my first appointment. But perhaps that is normal?

crazykat · 12/04/2010 16:00

The first appointment is usually just a urine test and medical history IME (medicine allergies, family health etc). There isn't really much else they can do so early. Next time you'll probly have blood tests to find out your blood type.
After about 16 weeks they usually check the baby's heartbeat at each appointment, it's amazing when you hear it especially the first time.
It depends on the country you're in as to what tests they do and when.

RaceyLacey · 12/04/2010 16:44

Congratulations Littlesnoo & ebrookm.

I think everywhere in the country is different for antenatal appointments. I'm not sure what happens here now as the maternity services have recently changed (and I've changed gp surgery) but in the past informing the gp was avery much a non-event. This is how it went for me:

Upon getting bfp went to dr's to inform them. They basically said congratulations, come back when you're 11-12 wks.

11-12 wks - ante-natal gp appt. Here it became official, about a half hour appt, they took the syph bloods & some others, had a feel of my belly (and 2nd time around because I got on really well with my gp she had a listen (but couldn't hear anything). This was when I was referred to mw.

Approx 12-14 wks - mw home visit, refer to hosp for scan.

Approx 16 wks - hospital for scan & bloods

From 20wks - monthly mw appts

From 32wks - fortnightly mw appts

From 38wks - weekly mw appts

When I had ds2 I only saw my mw 6wkly & then 3wkly until I was 38wks.

HTH

I still don't really feel pregnant, apart from having amazing boobs and a fatter than normal belly!

ebrookm · 12/04/2010 16:50

I just ate a pint of chocolate ice cream! (Other than that, I really am a pretty healthy eater)...

Thank you so much RaceyLacey - that really helps v. much. I'm happy to know that my first appointment was normal and now I can know more of what to expect from future appointments.

littleapin I'm really sorry xxx

ebrookm · 12/04/2010 19:20

My best to you and yours, Littlelapin. I hope that this does not discourage you too much and you can jump right back into making a baby with ease and confidence. Lots of babydust and support to you!

crazykat · 12/04/2010 19:53

I'm really sorry littleapin. Good luck for the future and i hope you'll have goos news soon x

Wholelottalove · 12/04/2010 19:57

littelapin - sorry I can't spell today.

littlesnoo yes I've been having twinges and cramps on and off. I got them with DD as well, they were worse before from what I remember and I was worried so ended up with an early scan which confirmed all fine.

ebrookm - I think they keep changing the rules and depends where you are. With DD I went to docs and was told to take folic acid, and the list of things not to eat/drink. I did have scan at early pregnancy unit because of pains in one side and another scan at just under 6 weeks as there was no heartbeat on the first scan.

I had home visit from the m/w at 10 weeks to book me in which was just form filling. I don't remember having blood or urine tests at that point.

This time, I phoned the docs and they said you just book yourself in with the m/w for an evening appointment to fill in the paperwork and offered me an appointment next week! I was a bit surprised as will only be 5 weeks, and I may cancel it and re-book for a few weeks time. OTOH I am thinking about home birth this time so want to discuss options early.

Anyone else feeling a bit fragile? I found out day AF due so only 4 weeks and it does feel like I can't relax into this pg until I'm a bit further along. I remember feeling like this with DD, as if I could cough wrong and dislodge something, if that doesn't sound crazy. Feel a bit odd for already telling my Mum and sister but then if anything does go wrong I'll want their support. On the other hand I had pretty bad sickness with DD which kicked in at six weeks so I'm making the most of feeling reasonable at the moment.

trytobebrave · 12/04/2010 20:04

Sorry to hear that Littlelapin. Best wishes to you and dh.

As Raceylacey says I think antenatal care really varies. My antenatal care last time was something like this:

Started off living in South West:

4 weeks: bfp, saw GP, congrats make appt with midwife for 8 weeks

8 weeks: midwife booking in appointment about an hour, bloods taken, family medical history, height, weight and bmi, urine test. Referred to hospital for first scan.

12 weeks: Scan at hospital

16 weeks: midwife appointment, blood pressure, urine test, heard heartbeat on Doppler.

19 weeks: anomaly scan

At 19.5 weeks I moved to London so obviously changed hospitals.

21 weeks ish: booking appointment with new hospital.

Monthly appointments up to 36 weeks to check bp, urine and listen to baby. Alternated between midwife and gp.

Fortnightly appointments from 36 weeks but ds was born at 37 weeks.

HTH!
