Argh Lizzie sounds like you're having a tough time. Hopefully tomorrows day of work goes nice and swiftly.

I'm afraid I haven't time to read back properly, still working on my epic piece of work :-( but thanks for all of the encouraging comments yesterday. Feeling a lot better today about my maternity leave - I know I'm lucky (although at 9 months full pay it still isn't a lot as I don't get paid very much!!). Had a lovely swim this morning and now sipping on a lovely non-alcoholic lager.

Ahh! Have a good weekend everyone!

Emster30 · 09/04/2010 19:39

Happy Friday everyone!

Sorry to hear you've had to cancel Barcelona Cherry - hope you enjoy the new shower instead!

I try to do pelvic floor exercises on the tube - when I remember.

We got on a nursery waiting list at 16 weeks. It has excellent reports and is literally across the road from us, and has a 12-16 month waiting list. It felt a bit stupid to go in with barely a bump but the staff thought it was very reasonable! I'm hoping to go back to work part time and my DH is applying for a job which may mean he can stay at home with the baby for one day a week, so we may only need 1-2 days a week in nursery.

My back is killing again this evening - think I need to get a different chair at work. Normally I love my chair but it just isn't working at the moment. I tried a colleague's chair for the day yesterday (she's away this week) and my back was much better, so I think that must be it.

girlsyearapart · 09/04/2010 19:43

Hi everyone

Had a lovely day in the sun today- way hotter than I expected, got a very red arm which doesn't look too good!

Played in the park all day then took the dds swimming then came home and left them with dh while I took the dog out by the river.

A lovely day which would be lovely with a cold beer to end it on.. will have to try the non alcoholic one pample what's it called?

Like the stories about the dhs enjoying the scans/kicks etc, my dh doesn't want to feel the baby kick it freaks him out

Just as well that I know he's a great dad or he'd be for it!

CherryPie3 · 09/04/2010 19:46

Pample You really know how to make a girl jealous. I'm still at work and you're drinking lager (albeit non-alcoholic)

Oh well, me and my workmate are munching on pringles and homemade brownies and cupcakes. We had a min-party for our friends birthday which is tomorrow (going out tomorrow as well )

Only an hour and 14 minutes to go til I can go home

Oh, about the other twin lady - I have read through quite a lot of that particular thread and I can't see another post from her? Really hoping she's ok.

Ooh I'm such a rebel, I've just had a small glass of wine topped up with lemonade to celebrate not crying in work today and winning my overtime arguement without a hormonal outburst .

cherry, it's not that exciting, I work for VOSA which is part of the dept of transport. I pick on lorry and bus drivers enforce transport law.

CherryPie3 · 09/04/2010 20:21

Lizzie I could bow down to you!! Don't know about anyone elses local bus service but they drive like lunatics where I live!! And lorry drivers

I definitely don't hate you!!!!

Missus84 · 09/04/2010 20:25

Today has been perfect weather for non-alcoholic lager - I've actually found the Becks Blue to be pretty good compared to most.

CherryPie3 · 09/04/2010 20:42

Tomorrow's forecast to be lovely as well Missus

Maybe our picnic will finally happe (prob end up in the garden but never mind).

Think I'm gonna buy some fruit tomorrow, chop it and dip it in melted chocolate :0

OP posts:
CherryPie3 · 09/04/2010 20:43

sorry - stray thought there.

Lizzie well done for saying something but I think I'd have a word about the demoted comment too

GYA I think you can burn more easily while pg too so that probably did not help. It was a lovely day though - we went out for an al fresco lunch and although I missed being able to have a glass of wine (not because I'm being super good but because it does not seem to taste very good to me any more) and the place had no alcohol free beer, it was lovely and hard finding the enthusiasm to go back to the office.

I'm also currently enjoying a Becks blue waiting for a take-away and Criminal Minds to start

Cherry don't worry too much about the twin lady. She only posted about 10 time in total (across all the boards) so hopefully she just found that MN was not for her.

CherryPie3 · 09/04/2010 20:59

Maybe she went to Netmums??

OP posts:
CazEM · 09/04/2010 22:31

Mmmmm melted choclate and fruit! one of my favourite treats Cherry

for you Lizzie - why is the world of work still so backwards when it comes to pregnant women!? and why is maternity pay still so rubbish?!!

Had another lovely afternoon out with my Mum. She took me to the Harvester for a late dinner/early tea, and then we went to the Mall in Bristol for the evening, its been great - even better that Mum paid, and bought the baby 2 little beautiful outfits! Haha! Mum wants to spoil her as much as me!

Tomorrow is definately make a good start at writing my essay day. I'd like to get 1000 words done tomorrow if possible, and write it throughout this week and get it finished next weekend. Hopefuly that isn't too much like wishful thinking!

Right off to bed, going to cwtch up with DH and watch this weeks episode of Ashes to Ashes!

weehector · 09/04/2010 23:19

Lizzie your (temporarily promoted) 'boss' just sounds threatened and insecure - whatever the status on the HR system, you're obviously a direct competitor & he feels uncomfortable managing someone his equal or superior in terms of capability/experience. You should most definitely take his 'glad you'd be on mat leave' as a compliment but I'd make it clear to him that you are just as committed to your job (in fact will come back refreshed, even better in terms of time management and more focussed..)and he shouldn't assume that you won't be putting yourself forward. That'll put the wind up him..

Enjoy your wee wine and don't let him enjoy your precious weekend. x

CazEm Be honest....are you nesting or procrastinating around doing your essay? (Asks the girl who painted the house and ended up working to the tune of about 2000words until 5am this week). Working on a temp consultancy basis, or not at all, is making me bone idle. I resent doing anything that isn't to do with the baby (looking at welovefrugi.com and making baby lists are my favourite things in the world) or isn't baking or eating lovely cakey, afternoon tea things.

Today's bugbear is men that don't know you putting their hands on your belly. Think they are the men married to the women who ask if you're disappointed/shocked that you're having a girl/boy/3rd child. We know them don't we?...also the same ones that ask when the babies are coming a few years after you're married, then stop asking and look at you sympathetically when children are mentioned and you're aged 36, in a relationship and haven't yet followed your biological imperative...

Alicetheinvisible · 10/04/2010 09:00

Morning

Made the mistake of eating chocolate before bed again last night so baby was hyper. It feels like the Tasmanian Devil!

Cherry i might have to go to the market this morning now to get lots of fruit to dip into choclate this evening. I think i need to eat a bit more healthily, and fill up on fruit and veg rather than carbs and fat.

How much weight has anyone put on now? DH and two friends said i am looking big. I don't know whether to hope it is all baby or just fat! I have been eating way too much recently. I have put on a stone now. I think it is ok, but with DD i had only put on not even half a stone by this stage so not sure what is normal iyswim?

Chulita · 10/04/2010 09:23

Morning all! I've not been posting much cos DH has been off all week so we've been pottering about a lot. Yesterday we went for a long bike ride in a local forest - twas lovely but I had a real headache afterwards. I think it was hotter than we thought! DD's gone off her bike seat too so she looked most upset for most of it, we'll have to give her more practice!
alice I'm looking huge. I have to keep reminding myself that I'm only 25 wks, I look about 7 months I haven't weighed myself though so I've got no idea how much I've put on and that's how I like it!
cherry I was 14 days overdue with DD so don't count on me being amongst the first to drop
weehector thankfully only my SIL has dared lay hands on my belly and she's lovely so I didn't mind. If anyone else came close I'd say something, I don't go round stroking their bellies so they can rod off!
lizzie well done for saying something!
12 weeks til this little one is full term, I'm praying for a 37 weeker, we're due to be moving the first week of August...eek!

Alicetheinvisible · 10/04/2010 09:36

Isn't it scary that at 28weeks it is the start of the third (and final!) trimester and we are heading towards it quite quickly!

Also, has anyone else noticed their nails have become really strong and healthy all of a sudden?

CazEM · 10/04/2010 10:30

Morning!

Well after my moaning pondering yesterday about DH not feeling baby yet, last night while we're watching Ashes to Ashes she kicks him constantly for 20 minutes straight! It was so lovely! :D (More gushing of love for her from me and DH), he was super pleased love him!

weehector - your absolutely right! Haha! Anything baby related is definately my current work avoidance, closely followed by MN and FB! See how I am on here this morning before I've started anything - I'm about to leave though and definately start!

Alice - I lost over a stone in sickness in the beginning so I'm currently still half a stone down on my pre-preg weight... So if I figure it out I've reput on about 10lb. (Which is about right the recommended weight gain isn't it?! - 10lb to a stone by this stage?) At least that gives me a positive for the sickness! I'm still looking enormous though!

I can't comment on the nails because I constantly have acrylics on... (one of my indulgences that will probably have to go in the latter part of my maternity leave!) Not feeling particulary different as regards hair/skin though either - skin seems a little more oily than it used to be if I'm honest, and my hair has always been useless and there is no change there!!

Chulita - I'm kinda hoping for 37/38 weeker too. She is due smack bang in the middle of two close family weddings at the moment.(my cousins at 39 weeks, my MILS 2 weeks after d-date.) It would be lovely if she was out in time to go to both - my other alternative is that she is not in time to go to either though I suppose! Oh well, she'll arrive when she arrives - I'll probably end up missing MILs through birth!

Right - onto work, will check back with you all as a reward when I've done an hour! Haha!

aendr · 10/04/2010 10:56

Alice: I found Pregnancy weight gain estimator useful because you can put in your height, start weight and week and it gives you a range. I'm under-gained, but I'm not worried as I'm overweight and can afford to lose it to baby. (Last time, I gained at the same rate, DS was fine and I annoyed all my antenatal group by wearing comfy/soft pre-pregnancy clothes within a week of the birth.)
But I'm only 20 weeks, so don't start talking about the 3rd trimester yet, please!!!

Lizzie in my branch of the civil service, your boss would be in big trouble for saying things like that. On a practical note, you have a defined need for that bag, so it wouldn't be unreasonable to email him and obviously copy in your HR representative and the H&S person who assessed you and ask for it to be delivered within 2 weeks or you will have to escalate the issue. (And if his job comes up for grabs during mat leave, I hope you get it, should you want it! ) There are various tasks we do in my team that I'm not allowed to do while pregnant - including playing with balloons and anything that involves a hardhat. I'm not even allowed to walk into the workshop without checking it's safe to do so, but nobody minds at all. My team is full of lovely gentlemen, nearly all of them fathers or even grandfathers.

Alicetheinvisible · 10/04/2010 11:19

Thanks for that aendr it says i should put on about 2st2lbs and that the baby will be roughly 7lb5oz (i know it is only a rough estimate) but that makes sense as i put on nearly 2 and half stone last time and DD was 7lb4oz. Feel a bit more in control having a guide iyswim?

CazEm My hair is looking really healthy (is thick anyway) but my skin is really dry. Have got some fab Sanctury bath oil though. I am not bothered about stretchmarks this time, having got quite bad ones appear on my bump at about 30weeks last time and them still being there but much improved in only 2 and half years.

marzipananimal · 10/04/2010 12:59

dh felt the baby kick for the first time last night! very sweet to see him grinning from ear to ear

I've put on more than a stone already but don't mind too much, I think I'm the type that will lose it straight after birth (hopefully anyway!)

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend

CazEM · 10/04/2010 13:24

Same here marzi - its lush isn't it! I'm really pleased he can be 'involved' with her now! Happy for your DH too!

Although I really wish I could say I was the type who'll lose the weight straight after birth! Haha baby will probably be a year old and I'll still be nowhere near my pre-preg weight. I'm not going to worry about it though, that will probably be the quickest way to PND if I put pressure on myself to be skinny as well as everything else we'll be learning to deal with! I'm like my Mum and she never lost all her baby weight, I'm just accepting now I'm probably going to be the same! Haha!

I've written 1200 words (go me!) - been sat here for 3 hours now so I've decided thats quite enough for one day. Hopefully what I've written isn't complete babble and crap! Its a start anyway, I feel better about myself for that... still got 2 and a half weeks till handing in date!

Now back onto baby related work distraction, going to make a start on sorting out of her room and make DH go to the tip a couple of times with loads of rubbish! :D He's had quite enough PS2 time for now also!! Maybe I should shower and dress first though, starting to feeling quite minging....

ElusiveMoose · 10/04/2010 14:16

Hi all,

Just popping on to say hi (I know how much trouble you get in if you forget to say hello from time to time on this thread). You lot have been chatting so much over the last few days that I must confess to not having read everything - but I'll soon catch up again.

How gorgeous is this weather?! Managed to burn the back of my neck yesterday, because I forgot to put cream there - needless to say, DS was properly protected (although actually he's got his father's olive skin, so I think he probably burns less easily than I do). Went to lovely little British wildlife place near us this morning - it's like a little zoo, but only animals from the UK, so there were lots of deer and otters and red squirrels etc, plus some gorgeous baby fox cubs. DS behaved like a saint, bless him.

Not much else to report. Just really enjoying DH being home for a couple of weeks.

Is anyone else noticing their bump changing quite a bit? Mine suddenly feels like a proper baby bump now, and it's starting to change shape as the baby moves about, which I remember from late on last time. I'm pretty sure I can feel a ridge where his spine is. Had a MW appt yesterday, which was very routine - can't believe I won't be seeing her again until 28 weeks, when I'll be into the 3rd trimester .

Right, off to enjoy my daily caffeine and chocolate hit while DS lies in bed rabbiting on about Chuggington has a nap.

aendr · 10/04/2010 15:58

Oh, I then gained 2 kilos while on maternity leave. All those trips to the nice cafe in town with my antenatal group!

My bump - we're calling her little miss wriglet for now (anyone got any other good bump nicknames?) kicked feelably from outside for the first time today, though I have insider info as to where the kick is as it were, so it will be a bit longer before my DH can feel it.

Weather is glorious, we're all sitting out in the garden on easy chairs with our laptops - my, DH and DS (17 months). He's tired himself out running around and going on the slide.

tah2 · 10/04/2010 16:27

Hi Ladies

Just thought i'd drop in to see how everyone is doing on this lovely sunny day. I have unfortunately spent most of the day in the library doing work for uni

On a more positive note, my DH also felt the baby move for the first time a few nights ago . The baby doesnt kick strong enough for him to feel it with his hands, but if he rests his head on my tummy the baby seems to enjoy kicking his ear! Dunno if thats cos the weight of his head puts more pressure on baby - but it seems to do the trick.

Im hoping that when i get home DH will have painted the decking, although the chances of that are slim cos he bought a new car at the begining of the week and wants to spend all his spare time waxing it! Men are so strange!

Anyways, enjoy the rest of the weekend!

pamplem0usse · 10/04/2010 16:50

Aww tah know the feeling I should have been doing Uni work but instead I've been cleaning/shopping/cooking/doing jobs so now I've got to spend my evening working! My horsey was winning for almost all of the National and then came 2nd fortunately I had an each way bet so made £20 but had almost picked my ridiculously expensive changing bag to buy with my winnings!!! Oh well!

It's a beautiful day, enjoy the sunshine everyone! xxxx
