pample that's a great mat leave package - full pay for 9mths. Glad they haven't taken it off you.

Pelvic floor - i get reminded to do mine when I sneeze . This has only happened since i got pg, must be the pressure downwards.

It's quite depressing talking about nurseries already. Don't discount childminders, mine is great and much cheaper than the nursery (£15 a day cheaper for the two of them). I really like her and like that the DTs are in a home setting, like when I am looking after them. I have nothing against nurseries - it was a price thing as much as anything.

I am looking forward to getting to 24wks too but also 21wks was important to me - that is the cut-off point where they will try to save your baby if it is born. Before 21wks even if it is born alive they will not treat it because they don't believe they can survive . I heard a really sad story on FiveLive where baby was born at 20+6 and it was breathing when it was born but the docs refused to treat it .

vix206 · 08/04/2010 22:05

I guess one of the perks of having my own business is that I can take the baby to work with me, and that's what I plan to do more or less straight away. Hoping to take 6 weeks maternity leave, if all goes to plan 2 wks prior to birth and 4 weeks after Then start going in part time with baby and take it from there. Have no idea where our house or office will be though so its all a bit up in the air to say the least!!

neenz · 08/04/2010 22:06

It's probably different depending on where you are in the country but I looked at nurseries only a few months before going back to work and there was space at all the local nurseries, so you don't always have to put your name down loads in advance

tah2 · 08/04/2010 22:51

Congratulations to all you lovely ladies who have have had their scans or who have reached the 24wk milestone!

I have been very weary about buying anything until i get to the 24wk mark (prob cos of miscarriage last summer) so am hoping to start shopping soon.

I too have a very annoying FIL! What is it with FIL thinking they have a right to interfear (sp?) with their kids finances? Im sure my FIL would love nothing else than to see us strapped for cash and asking for a lend. Arghhh!

CazEm I am soo impressed with your cleaning efforts today - i barely have the energy levels to get through the day (no idea how im going to survive my last 6 wks of teaching practice) Ive been on iron tablets for just over a wk, cos of being anemic so im really hoping they start working soon and my enegy levels improve! Oh, I live in Cwmbran btw.

Thanks Cherry for updating me on the list - loving the organisation!

neenz you made me smile at your comment regarding the pelvic floor exercises - i understand exactly what your saying

weehector · 08/04/2010 23:48

neenz & tah2 sign me up.. I too have been made aware of the need for these exercises.

LilyPad72 · 09/04/2010 08:15

Thanks Cazem, Vix, Cakey & Missus for your words of reassurance - good to hear!

V impressed with all the people being so organised about nurseries. Mentioned it to the DH last night - his face was a picture - couldn't process anything so far in advance!

girlsyearapart · 09/04/2010 08:20

morning all.

What a lovely day yesterday spent whole day at park. Same again today I think.

nichy I didn't have any internals until I was in labour either time.

Tummy measuring is a bit later on.

Got another 4 days until the magic 24 wks mark.

My FIL is nice he is the one I call if I neede something from the ILs. MIL is ok but I don't think she likes me much/approves of my parenting.
They have one very annoying tendency which is despite the fact that they live 5 minutes away they only ever pop in at 630pm when the dds go to bed at 7 and have done most of their lives..

So I've just got through dinner/bath/pjs usually on my own as dh is at work then they arrive when the house is at its messiest and hype the kids up. Great.

They don't ever come and offer to take them out during the day or to the swings or whatever..

oh well.

Alicetheinvisible · 09/04/2010 10:08

Morning ladies

I am very lucky that we don't have to think about childcare. I was planning on going back to work after DD was born, but would have ended up working for about £1.50 an hour after childcare costs - not worth it!

I haven't bought a thing for the baby yet. There is a huge second hand baby sale in a local church hall that is on about twice a year which is very good, that is on next saturday, so the plan is to dig out all DD's stuff before then and see how much we need.

We decided we needed 3 big things before this baby was born:

A buggy board
An electric breast pump
A sheepskin for the buggy

The buggyboard is only £40 on Amazon
The breastpumps are loaned out free from the childrens centre
And my friend has a sheepskin we can have.

So looks like some of my health in maternity grant can be used on me

CazEM · 09/04/2010 10:39

Morning all!

We heard babys heartbeat last night (finally!) - its so beautiful! And when the monitor was on my tummy she was kicking hard enough to move it, and you could see little jumps of little kicks on my tummy around it!! Awwwww! You should have seen the rush of love from DH for her; hearing her and seeing her kick! (and an excited instant facebook status update!!) If she is kicking hard enough for him to see then surely she is kicking hard enough for him to feel?!! I wish she'd keep it up when I call him to feel!! Won't be long now I expect!

tah2 - We're originally from Cwmbran! My parents still live there (still consider that my house too! haha), I'm always there! Moved down to Newport because it was easier to buy a house on a first time buyers scheme here! We're hoping to move back to Cwmbran in another couple of years, thats where home is as far as I'm concerned!!

I know what you mean Alice about fees. Daylight robbery, especially when I know how much the workers earn (my sis is a nursery nurse in a nursery!) - one full time child barely amounts to her full time wage. Lots of nursery owners (I know not all can be with overheads too and stuff), must be making a killing!! Anyway, I can't afford to pay a full time place, like you said, it hardly makes it worth working at all. That's why we've decided I'm going part-time (plus I want to enjoy being a Mummy for 4 out of 7 days and only work 3 now anyway!!), If I had stayed full time and Mum hadn't been able to have the baby at all I would've been working 3 days a week just for childcare costs. It seemed a waste of time. So we might as well be worse off and enjoy our baby!

And its worked out well now really because Mum is semi-retiring at the end of this school year and can definately have her 2 days while I'm in work, and possibly the 3rd. But we'll put her name down on a nursery list just incase. I don't mind her being in a nursery one day a week anyway - good for social skills etc.

Thanks all for being impressed with my cleaning efforts, I don't go that nuts on the hosue very often! Satifisying when its so tidy though, just wish it would stay that way! Gunna get the washing out today, possibly start my essay if I find motivation (though probably won't because in my head I'd already decided I'm going to do it over Sat/Sun!!).

Hope your all enjoying a Sunny Friday!

marzipananimal · 09/04/2010 10:54

throw some inspiration my way caz, I need to get lots of housework done today instead of sitting in bed on MN!

Aussieng · 09/04/2010 11:17

Morning ladies - gosh you were chattery yesterday! And I was busy! Although it was such a nice day, I did make time for a proper lunch break and had a lovely lunch with DH of garlic mushroom galettes and crepes suzette. Naughty but delish!

Congrats on the further scan results - I think Vix and aendr. Sorry if I missed any more.

Nichy my 25 week appt was the first time that the MW has measured my bump.

Sorry about your mat leave stress Pample but at least all ended well. As Cherry says that is a very good mat leave package you have. I'd kill for 6 months on full pay let alone 9 but when you have counted on something it is very hard for it to be taken away. I also think generally when firms reduce mat leave packages it should not be implemented for at least 10 months to give anyone who is already pregnant a chance to reassess their options but hey ho. Usually mat leave is not a T&C but a discretionary policy and that is how they get around chaing them without full consultation.

Cherry I think I had mild SPD earlier this week. A really heavy feeling on my pubic bone like something was pressing on it and crushin it. I suppose it was quite mild (and only lasted about 36 hours) but if felt awful so you have my sympathies. Like I said before even when the LO (I'm going to start calling him JJ) kicks me down there I don't love it!

lily I also thinkg bubbles/popping is the baby. Sorry for the lovely turn of phrase but it feel just like when your insides are bubbling to prepare a breakage of wind but then the wind does not follow...

Glad to see I was not the only one worrying about the boy bits maintenance

Also have been very lax with pelvic exercises. I don't like them but I like the idea of a prolapse even less I suppose...

Fingers crossed for a lovely weekend

CherryPie3 · 09/04/2010 12:34

Hello ladies - what a beautiful day

It's forecast a super sunny weekend as well - woohoo!!

On the late shift today which means I won't finish work until 9pm , hate hate hate this shift!!! But dh is picking me up tonight so at least I don't have to hobble into the car and wince everytime I need to use the pedals to drive. SPD really sucks!!!! I sincerely hope none of you get it - it's horrible!!!!

Onlt 15 weeks and 6 days to go until my due date . Then SPD will be a part of my history considering I'm not having anymore babies! I've also called off the city break to barcelona , I figured if walking is a problem here/now - then it's gonna be a problem there/then. So we're having a new shower fitted instead . It's much needed as I can no longer get in and out of the bath by myself very easily!

I hope you're all having a lovely sunny day - will be back later on....

Aussie You have been rumbled by another April/may thread baby watche

I watched the enitre last 2 threads for march too and cried when they had their babies

I have to say I've never heard of the mw signing you off tho, maybe I'm a bit naive too having never gone over my due date but I never got the impression that they wouldsay 'seeya later'.

Although they did sign me out of mw care after baby arrived and they were happy to discharge me/us into health visitor care. But I think that was after a few weeks. Does this help?

xx

CazEM · 09/04/2010 13:28

Cherry sorry to hear your in pain, thats a shame about your weekend break but yay for the new shower!

Feeling most organised today, have booked myself onto antenatal classes in June and currently doing car insurance quotes to try and get it down. Why is it such a mindfield?!

CazEM · 09/04/2010 13:41

Ok change that, the more quotes I do the more I'm thinking all this hassle is hardly worth it - the most I'm getting it down by is £4 a month, and when you take into account the astronomical desposit its just not worth it. And when you think you've found a gem of a saving they screw you over by making it a lot more when you press the pay monthly option. Looks like we'll be sticking where we are.

1.40 already... where is the day going?!!

Aussieng · 09/04/2010 14:29

Cazem have you tried going through a cashback site such as Quidco - you can get up to £80 cashback from some of them.

Hi fellow watcher Cherry - some of the December/January babies started to arrive really early but the April/May ones seem much more well behaved and orderly They have not actually rushed to respond to my question though

So what's your prediction for the first arrival for this thread? Do we have one or two sets of twins (I forget)? That must mean that some early arrivals are a possibility.

CherryPie3 · 09/04/2010 17:16

Have they answered you yet Aussie?

First arrival I think will be....erm.....Chulita. Maybe. Or you.

Just been having a quick flick through our old threads trying to find more twins but can only find Stars - I thought there was 2 sets actually but I may have imagined it. I just thought perhaps they'd stopped posting?
Still looking tho....

OP posts:
Aussieng · 09/04/2010 17:35

nah - I'm betting it wont be me. I still think their dates are a week out.

I thought there were two sets too Cherry.

That's it ladies - the week is over and I am now 10 weeks and counting until my maternity leave starts

Have a great weekend.

Aussieng · 09/04/2010 17:38

Oh - Sorry cherry yes they replied - lovely in the end. Seems to boil down to "it depends on your NHS trust" as with all things. I'm still not quite sure what happens though. It seems like there is a kind of sign off at 37/38 weeks "see you once the baby is born" then somehow if the baby does not arrive by 40 +7 you go back on line again for things like sweeps and induction conversations. All seems very odd to me.

CherryPie3 · 09/04/2010 17:45

Found the other set of twins!!!!!

MrsS77 Wed 13-Jan-10 11:22:14
Hi all -

I'm a late joiner to this thread as technically I am due Sept 2nd - however I found out on Monday that my darling little bean is in fact TWO darling little beans(!), and so am expecting my EDD to be brought forward into August - so mind if I join you?

Just 7 weeks right now!

I knew it - we're officially not going mad Aussie .

Right I'm gonna go browse the September list to see if she's on their list I'm such a stalker lol.

OP posts:
CherryPie3 · 09/04/2010 17:57

Nope - she's not there

Feel bad for looking now, hope she and the twins are ok and she's just too busy being pregnant to post.

LizzieA · 09/04/2010 18:07

I'm here for a moan this evening, which is such a shame when the sun is still out at and I should be really happy.

Bare with me, it's a long story.....

I always used to work weekend overtime until a few weeks ago when I had to ring and tell work I couldn't make it (I had an amnio at short notice, all was ok). I told my boss and his boss afterwards what had happened and was assured that it was ok and not to worry. Since then I haven't been offered overtime once and it's finally got me annoyed.

I asked my boss why that was today and was told that his boss had said that as I work a full week they didn't want me to make myself tired by working at weekends but it has NOTHING TO DO WITH ME BEING PREGNANT!!!

I checked with a few male colleagues as to whether their tiredness had ever been checked, and surprisingly not!

I had a controlled strop and rang HR who seemed absolutely terrified that I had a case for discrimination (I'm a civil servant) and all of a sudden I've been offered overtime tomorrow, 7am to 4pm but after my performance I couldn't turn it down - it's going to kill me!

I can't actually do a part of my proper job at the mo because it involves climbing but I am trained to do another job (at a lower pay grade but I still get my normal wages) which means I am not stuck in the office all the time. After all of the upset of this morning a tit of a colleague questioned me when I was carrying out my normal job this afternoon and asked if I had the authority to do what I was doing as I had been demoted due to my pregnancy. I have no idea how I didn't punch him .

Sorry that's all a bit vague as to my job but I work in enforcement and don't want to be hated by you all!! (It's not Tax or DWP)

LizzieA · 09/04/2010 18:19

.... and to add to that, I had a H&S meeting 8 weeks ago and my boss was told I needed a wheeled bag for my laptop and printer. I have asked countless times since as to its whereabouts and it still hasn't been ordered! Just feel very unloved in work at the mo and this is added to my boss (who is in the post temporarily and is actually my grade) telling me that if his post was advertised as substantive that at least he wouldn't have to go up against me (he wouldn't stand a chance I might add) as I'm going to be off on maternity leave - he is such an arse that he doesn't actually realise that if a promotion comes available while I'm off I have to be informed and I'm more than welcome to apply!

Rant over for the moment, sorry but needed to vent my spleen.

soontobefatnat · 09/04/2010 18:48

Lizzie - God, it's outrageous what people come out with! Your 'boss' sounds like an idiot, and I can't believe that your colleague said that you'd been demoted. It makes me depressed that pregnancy brings up all sorts of issues for women that you would hope a modern society would have consigned to the past!

CherryPie3 · 09/04/2010 18:58

Lizzie That sounds horrendous!! Theres no chance that the way you've been treated is justified.
I hope you don't have any further problems and you get you laptop trolley bag soon

p.s - you've set the intrigue off now - I wanna know what you do. My niece is a civil servant but she works for the CPS and has to sit in court all day. Not exactly sure what she does tho.

Pleeeeeeease tell us. Promise not to hate you
