Hi Star it is so nice to hear you sounding more upbeat - I'm glad you're feeling better. I've been really fancying a pregnancy massage. Let me know how it goes please? Have a lovely time with your family and even if it is tiring getting there at least tomorrow you can get up with the hard bit (getting there) over and done with.

CherryPie3 · 07/04/2010 13:56

Hey Star Team violet sounds great
I love those days where you just feel great and everythings going super and theres no explanation. There should be more of them methinks.

Can I just say that I love British Gas - it is like an enforced savings club . Winter over and £500 in credit. At last something goes well financially! wooHoo

Forgot to say had 25 week appointment this morning (MW appts getting so routine now I forget about them ). Finally "met" my midwife (who has been on sick leave since November) and she was very nice - conversation and my queries (about consultant lead care and what this means for the actual birth etc) flowed much more easily than previously. All well, baby gave her a little kick (cute!), BP and urine fine so hopefully next time I see the Consultant they will ease off on the excessive monitoring. Got my MatB1 fromm her(now submitted to my HR/finance dept) and my health in pregnancy grant application is also now winging its way to HMRC. All good.

starshaker · 07/04/2010 14:45

Well back from my mw appointment and if the old wives tales are right then i think my team violet feeling will be right. 1 baby has a h/b of 121 and the other just over 140. Now im off for a nap before the 5 hour drive (been told to make sure i have a couple of stops)
If i dont post for a week its cos i cant get my grandparents wireless to work lol shouldnt be a problem though. There is a mamas and papas store in aberdeen so think i will pay it a little visit and see what i can pick up there.

CherryPie3 · 07/04/2010 15:20

Aussie Thats brilliant!!!!!

I personally hate BG because they were charging me £106 a month, I switched to EON and they're charging me £23 a month and I'm still in credit - just made me wonder how BG could justify it?

Star So looking forward to finding what babies you're having - so exciting!!!!

Yay for more healthy & happy 20 week scans....a few more to go and then I guess we're onto breaking through the magic 24 week mark....how exciting that Aussie is there already, blazing the viability trail for us.!

When I think back to what a mixture of MS misery, worry & elation I went through 3 months ago...it feels like years ago...hope I feel the same way about labour Blueberries, Aussie, Starshaker (and hopefully Vix and anyone else having a scan today)...you all seem to be having amazing days for different reasons (hurrah for the BG cash fairy, I'm so getting a massage too when the Health in Pregnancy Grant comes through and how good is it to actually get your hands on something new shiny & tangible for the baby) ..I'm on top of the world today too having just taken delivery of & assembled our Mountain Buggy this afternoon. I sat with a cup of tea looking at it for about an hour - thinking This Is Actually Happening. I'm so sad, I actually texted a pic of it to DH at work.

at Team Violet. Can't wait to hear what flavour the twins are.

Aussieng · 07/04/2010 16:09

Cherry, I think they all require quite a lot of stamina to deal with on an ongoing basis. Our gas consumption is huge! Dh is always cold, I hate wearing jumpers even in winter and I like a hot bath every night (plus shower in the am) so our bills will always be on the high side. I switched to BG last year from npower. As soon as I told npower that I was switching they told me that based on my usage I was not on the best tarrif for me and would be better of on X tarrif and it would save me money. Gee thanks for that - perhaps you should have told me that before I decided to move? So I moved anyway. We'll be 1 year with BG come June so will talk to them then about our tarrif - we have economy 7 but do not use it as the times are so ridiculous (who can be bothered to turn their washing machine on at 1 am?????). It is all too complicated really.

Aussieng · 07/04/2010 16:15

WeeHector DH was so excited when I told him about viability at week 24 - he did not have a clue bless him and to feel that it is only 12 weeks until technically the baby is "term" is sooo exciting (and terrifying). Incidentally when MW measured my bump today she said it is measuring 24 weeks so in line with my LMP date not my scan date. She said that measuring is very inexact, a week is neither here nor there and they stick with my scan date but nevertheless I am sooo going to resist any persuasion to be induced until at least 40+14 without a V good reason.

vix206 · 07/04/2010 16:21

Just back from scan, all measuring perfectly and we are on team blue!! I thought we were and the very first view of baby confirmed it - he was anything but shy Really happy but also feel exhausted - I've been working myself up about the scan for weeks now!

neenz · 07/04/2010 16:23

Do they say it's usually a fast hb for a girl? Mine is fast [clutching at straws in desperate attempt to work out the sex!]

Old wives tale is right tho: when I was having monitoring late on with the twins, we knew DT1 as a boy and DT2 was a girl, but the mw was convinced they had swapped round after listening to the HBs. She said 'I bet this one is the girl' and I said 'no that is the boy'. She said 'just wait till it comes out - they can swap around'. When it came out it was still a boy

vix206 · 07/04/2010 17:01

neenz, this one's heart rate was very quick too and its most definitely a boy

Why is it though that almost everyone I have told in real life has asked me if I'm 'okay with that?' or 'disappointed?' Making me feel a bit tetchy to be honest, from the happiness in my voice I would think it was obvious we are delighted. Just puts a bit of a downer on it when 5 people in a row ask if its a let down...

Anyway, negative bit over... promise!

Chulita · 07/04/2010 17:31

aussie we switched to BG from Npower over christmas cos Npower sucked. They cost us a fortune and refused to remove our 'economy7' meter which resulted in us paying twice what we now pay BG. BG didn't change our meter, just adjusted the tariff whereas thieving gits Npower said they couldn't change the tariff without changing the meter and they couldn't change the meter cos they were changing companies who did it for them...never, ever, ever, going with Npower again.
vix next time say "I'm totally gutted, not sure how on earth I'm going to handle this one" and see what they do
congrats!!

ElusiveMoose · 07/04/2010 18:07

Vix, people are just very, very random, particularly about pregnancy and kids. Why on earth would you be disappointed?? I can sort of see why people might wonder about it if you already had a boy or two (though still downright rude to ask!), but with your first, it's a very odd question. It's funny, actually, that things seem to have switched round a bit. Not that long ago, I think it was just expected that everyone would hope for a son, whereas now people seem to think you're more likely to want a daughter... All very odd. Reminds me of when I was on holiday in Greece a few years ago, and the way to ask if people had children was to say 'Do you have boys?', because having girls didn't really 'count' .

Anyway, massive congrats on your show-off boy - I'm so glad all is well for you .

CherryPie3 · 07/04/2010 18:10

Congrats on your little boy Vix. Glad the scan went well.

Very interested in these old wives tales you speak of. Will have a word with my mw tomorrow (if I remember) - bet she's heard them all

WRT NPower. Another from me for them. They too are crap! They don't actually come out to read your meter (or they didn't with us) They just estimate it. The never requested that we read it and pop the figures in the window or anything so we had no idea when they were coming or anything.

Thanks guys as always you cheered me up

Chulita - I might try that comeback next time someone says it to me, see what happens!!

girlsyearapart · 07/04/2010 18:49

congrats- so vix can you see any white circles near the boy bits on your scan??

Had friends over to play today so dd1 didn't have a nap. she was flat out in front of the tv at 620 so I just carried her to bed. Am so tired and happy to not have to go through the night time dramas tonight.

dd2 is usually v easy to put to bed so she is just watching night garden then it's her turn for bed and my turn for a bath, book and a Flake

aussie did you see the bit on 'I didn't know I was pregnant' where she gave birth down the loo??

Alicetheinvisible · 07/04/2010 18:55

Vix congrats! Moose is right, people are odd WRT pregnancy. Last time i had "Was it planned?" constantly. Well she wasn't, but DH (then DP) and i had been living together for a year and a half, so not exactly out of the blue. Idiots, the lot of them!!

vix206 · 07/04/2010 18:59

girlsyearapart - no white circles just a very large looking and perfectly formed willy You can't miss it!

girlsyearapart · 07/04/2010 19:10

don't know why I've got myself obsessed over this white circles thing tbh!! Just wondering what on earth you're meant to do with a boy baby!! answers on a postcard..

cakeywakey · 07/04/2010 19:17

Congrats to everyone with their scans - strange to think that the next time most of us will see our babies will be when they arrive!

Aussie, congrats on being over the 24 week hurdle. I'm willing the next few weeks away to get to the 'viable' stage. Am being very reassured by the constant keepie-uppie practice going on though, although I wish baby would give it a rest at night

Vix and Alice people can be so strange with the comments they make - I sometimes think that they must just blurt out the first thing that comes into their head. I've already been asked a few times if we'll have a third 'to try for a boy'. I just reply that I'd like to get on with having the baby I'm carrying first before thinking about any more .

Alicetheinvisible · 07/04/2010 19:26

Girls i am delighted to be having a boy but petrified at the same time!

Comments: If you have a girl/2 girls - Will you try for a boy? and vice versa (as if you have to try extra hard for the sex you want!)

If you have a girl and a boy people assume that is you finished.

girlsyearapart · 07/04/2010 19:40

so you have a girl already alice?

God knows why I'm stressing all the boys I know are lovely and all their Mum's say they are far more affectionate/less trouble than girls.

It's just what you're used to though isn't it?

We have been constantly asked if 'we're trying for a boy' this time don't know how you do that? and at 23 weeks I doubt I could try anything different now!

We were originally planning on having 4 kids and I think if this one is a boy it;ll make me even more inclined to have another so we can 'try' for another boy to give him some company!

On another note- does anyone find that sometimes you post on here and are conpletely and totally misunderstood?? Not on this thread just another one. Then the more I try to make myself understood the worse it gets..

Alicetheinvisible · 07/04/2010 19:44

Oh yes! Just keep digging!! It is difficult when typing to get the right tone isn't it?

Yes i have a girl already, she is nearly 2 and a half. I always wanted a girl, and did want a boy this time, but i could imagine myself with just girls but not just boys iyswim?

girlsyearapart · 07/04/2010 19:49

god yeah have dug myself in deep this time and I was actually trying to say something nice- in my own way!!

My dd1 is 2 and a half too- a patience tester of an age if you ask me!

Different to you though I can't imagine myself with boys..

Emster30 · 07/04/2010 19:58

I HATE the "was it plsnned" question - none of your sodding business! It's the same sort of people who ask you why you haven't had a baby yet when you've been married a couple of years. It is really not anyone else's business...

I hit the magic 24 week mark on Sunday which is a good feeling!

I am really suffering today - yesterday was my last day of holiday and I spent it painting the living room. the bending over and climbing ladders has wrecked my back, and I ache all over today. Plus my upper back, which had been so much better for a week and a half off work, was agony again today after a day back at my desk. I was hobbling home like an old lady and I hurt all over! Am hoping it eases off a bit. Another hot bath tonight methinks.
