Had the pasty but no chips. Feel like something was not quite right. Now want an oreos KFC milkshake thingymewhatsit. Obviously I'm having a junk food craving day.

On the bus this morning on the way in to work there was a very malnourished looking mum with a scruffy kid (early teens) sharing a pasty/sausage roll some such in a Greggs wrapper for breakfast. Anyway she took her last bite gave the remainder to the boy and then they parted ways. The bus and the boy kept pace for almost a street and I watched him walk along bending double every few steps to take a bite of the pasty and I was just glaring at him thinking "take the food to your mouth not your mouth to the food" then I noticed another passenger on the bus looking at my contemptous facial expression Yes I suspect my standards may slip! I probably deserve a right horror of a DC.

Alice I cannot do the whole eating hot food outside in the cold thing. It gives me a really intense heebiejeebie reaction- nothing to do with eating outside or anything it is purely the hot/cold thing (so long of course, as you are taking the food to your mouth)!

bouncingblueberries · 06/04/2010 16:13

ha ha weehector you just transported me right back to my days of being a smug mum (don't worry - it was a short-lived phase!). I was very, very lucky that ds progressed to solid food like a dream. He would eat ANYTHING I put in front of him and I used to take great delight in revealing his favourite lunch of humous, avocado, cherry toms and pitta bread when in public. Cue the day I had lovingly prepared sweetcorn chowder. Felt all smug in starbucks at my homemade creation while being surrounded by mums with jars of baby food. Not so smug when ds projectile vomited sweetcorn chowder all over me and half of starbucks That cured my smugness!

That and the fact that I now have a fussy 4 year old that refuses to eat most meals unless it's mince & tatties or roast chicken - he's a real carnivore!

Boy does motherhood change your perceptions! ds came with me to the chip shop on Saturday night IN HIS PYJAMAS! Shock horror! dh was mortified

Doodleydoo · 06/04/2010 16:40

BBB - am hoping my fussy eater will turn as neither dh or I are fussy! Yes she is the child that will only eat chips, nuggets and fish fingers but won't touch anything green!

Weirdly I made fishcakes for her yesterday (yes she will eat anything with a crispy outside) that had parsnip, carrot, sweet pot and pot as well as salmon and she said it was yummy but if I had put them down individualy she would have looked at me like I was satan!

pamplem0usse · 06/04/2010 17:18

Ahh food - well I'm veggie but DH and I have decided that we'll feed baby meat and fish until it's old enough to decide what it wants to eat/ not eat.

Scan was.... hmmm interesting. Baby was highly uncooperative so ended up being scanned in two bursts for about 50 minutes altogether. All is well though and we didn't cave in and find out what it was (although given its reluctance to get into any sensible position I doubt it would have shown us its bits!).... so I am happy. Except she pressed so hard it actually hurt....

Pample I'm so glad the scan went well . Having a chuckle at your awkward baby.

Blueberries I had to laugh at your smug mum stage re eating. I had an easy one too, to start with. I remember feeling incredibly smug when I took him to a restaurant with us aged about 11 months, and while all the other babies around us were eating purees from a jar, DS was wolfing down a homemade guinea fowl casserole with mash . These days he eats pasta. And not much else. There are times when I would kill for him to accept a bit of Greggs sausage roll .

ElusiveMoose · 06/04/2010 18:41

Sorry, cross-posts. Congrats on your little girl, Cakeywakey .

vix206 · 06/04/2010 19:45

Pamplemousse, as you know we're veggies too but we've taken the opposite decision which is not to feed the baby meat/fish until it is old enough to decide for itself Mainly because we both wish we had been given that choice, but we're going to be very open and not force our beliefs and feelings about vegetarianism on the little one as it grows up..most important thing is that they are happy and healthy

CazEM · 06/04/2010 19:59

Evening all!

Congrats cakey and pample on your scans!

Had a lovely afternoon, got to the castle and had a picnic, all be it a little bit cold and breezy with DH! Even came across a grown woman dressed at Snow White at the castle - and no she wasn't staff, just a visitor like us! Haha she was prancing and dancing around being photographed! I can only assume she is doing something for a university project or something along those lines, otherwise I would be tempted to certify her! Haha!

Baby was awake and kicking really late last night, I can only put it down to my extra massive amount of chocolate indulgence in the evening - a big bowl of melted chocolate and chopped fruit! I enjoyed!

Enjoyed reading about the smug Mummy moments regarding food. I'm really hoping baby isn't fussy with food as she grows up, but I suppose its also a stage most children go through! Mum says I was a particulaly sicky baby and very difficult to feed so she has jokingly said she hopes Belle also puts us through a zillion changes a day!

Right its 8pm, can't persuade DH to get of the PS2 (he's rediscovered it in the last couple of days over his Xbox!) to make tea, and as its now getting on I suppose I'll have to go and do it! Freezer food it is tonight then....

vix206 · 06/04/2010 20:04

cakey I missed your post - congrats on your little girl! I doubt I will get much sleep tonight, so excited for tomorrow's scan - and the baby is kicking a lot tonight as well

I don't know how I will cope tonight without my fix of One Born Every Minute, I loved that show!!

isheisnthe · 06/04/2010 20:33

Well, another update - had my 20 week scan today and I am having my 3rd boy! I am pleased but felt a bit....erm, duuno how to put it - a pang - No daughter for me, as this is the last baby - but I have two beautiful sons who I wouldnt swap for the world - so boy number 3 for me - YEY!

pamplem0usse · 06/04/2010 20:33

cakey congrats!!!

vix it's a hard one isn't it? My DH isn't veggie so it's kind of easier to let the LO eat meat if he's cooking and I'm not around. I guess we're both singing from the same hymn sheet in terms of letting baby decide though aren;t we???

bouncingblueberries · 06/04/2010 20:34

Congratulations cakey and good luck for tomorrow vix! missing OBEM here too - wish we had Didcovery Health

bouncingblueberries · 06/04/2010 20:38

Oh congrats to pample and isheisnthe too! Very exciting!

pample my little monkey didn't want to co-operate either - hoping it's not a sign of things to come! But was quite cross when sonographer called baby naughty!!

cazzybabs · 06/04/2010 21:10

OMG I am watching one born every minute (we don't have a TV but am on holiday) ... oh god what have I done..its like a car crash TV - I don't want to watch it but I have to ... but the womanhaving her 4th baby an her husband - I have told my dh I will divorce him if he is like that

neenz · 06/04/2010 22:29

Congrats on the scans - glad you are feeling about your 3rd boy isheisnthe, boys are just great!

Great news cakey and pample too

My DD is quite a fussy eater - I think most kids are but I don't let it bother me. I only used to eat Vegemite sandwiches and orange juice when I was a toddler , well I did end up at the doc's malnourished but there's not much I won't eat now. I think the best approach is to not let them see you are bothered by it, and try to find at least one or two things that you know they will eat so you always have something to fall back on. All my DD (23mths) ate today was porridge with banana, some toast with soft cheese, tangerines, grapes, yogurt and milk. I made her butternut squash with a bit of bolognese sauce for tea but she refused to touch it. Little madam.

vitapulchra · 06/04/2010 23:01

Congrats on all the recent scans--very glad to hear that all the LOs are well.

I was thankful to you ladies who gave me advice about worrying about my weight gain. I've been making an effort to eat healthier, and thus REALLY enjoying dessert when I have it, and now that I know I'm eating better I feel like I don't mind so much what my weight is.

As for BFing, I managed only 6 months with both DSs but longer with DD. I just found my boys SO hungry that I couldn't keep up, despite feeding on demand. My last DS would BF, then look about anxiously/angrily until I gave him a bottle, which he sucked down instantly. I was shocked. DD always had a smaller appetite, and BF for 11 months. In fact, she NEVER EVER took a bottle, despite my best efforts to occasionally slip her one (of breast milk). It wasn't until I ended up in hospital with a massive kidney infection and was separated from her that she switched--after an entire week of refusing to drink anything at all, losing weight and looking wan. It broke my heart, but I couldn't do anything about it. So I'm fully in support of trying to do your best but most of all feeling comfortable with whatever decision works for you!

Can't wait for my scan on the 14th--only one more week to go . . .

Chulita · 07/04/2010 08:41

alice DD is in a cotbed so it's designed to turn into a toddler bed. She's only 16mths though so I reckon she's just too young. The only reason we tried is cos I'm finding it hard to get her over the side and we went to a friend's whose 14mth old sleeps in a toddler bunkbed with no worries. Of course he's been a good sleeper since about 7mths whereas DD very rarely sleeps the whole night through!

Congrats on the scans!

DD's really fussy at the mo with food too, she'll eat any kind of fruit without a fuss but carbs are a hassle to get down her and meat isn't worth even trying. Does get very frustrating!

bouncingblueberries · 07/04/2010 08:59

Morning girls!

Good luck for all those with scans today!

I'm so excited - my first baby purchase arrived yesterday and I love it! I'd been lusting after a new pram/buggy but knew I just couldn't justify. We spent a fortune on a Quinny Buzz when ds was born and although it is a bit heavy sometimes for lugging in and out of the car, it's still a great buggy. Especially as we spend most of our weekends trekking around woods or down the allotment!

Anyway, the seat part of the buggy was looking a bit worse for wear and I was worried about it being black (ds roasted in it his first summer - so much for being practical and buying black so it wouldn't show up all the stains!). But then I had a bit of a find on ebay. You can buy replacement seats for buggies like the Quinny in all the funky new colours for a fraction of the price! Yippee!!!!!! So I now have a very funky rebel red seat for the Quinny, feel like I have a new buggy and it only cost me £32! Bargain-tastic!

girlsyearapart · 07/04/2010 09:28

congrats on all the good scan news

whoever asked about discovery health- I upgraded it costs an extra £1 a month. (with sky)

This weekend it was ' I didn't know I was pregnant day' soo worth the money in itself!

mrsZaC · 07/04/2010 09:36

Hey girls, thought I'd best check in... Mnet isn't working at work AGAIN and it's really annoying me!!! Do posting on iPhone, will try to catch up on here but I don't really like this for browsing mnet, too much of a fiddEly site for little iPhone

CherryPie3 · 07/04/2010 09:47

Morning all - huge congratulations on all scans yesterday - Vix good luck for yours today hun

Fussy Eaters - both my kids were fine with whatever you gave them when they were little, but now my ds turns his nose up at almost everything and he's got such a weak stomach that as soon as he's made his mind up to not eat it - he starts retching.
The only thing I can guarantee they'll both eat is pasta bake or chicken tikka masala with naan bread and rice. Spaghetti bolognese they'll have a good go at too. We all love pasta and pasta bake is one of my favourite meals cos it doesn't take much effort to cook at all!! Easy peasy

Blueberries Sounds like you got a super bargain there, best of both worlds The buggy you love with a new seat you love.

Vita Glad you're feeling better about your weight honey

I'm sorry I've ben neglecting the list a little - I have been updating it on my word document but I keep forgetting to post it

Morning all, I'm back from a lovely weekend at Center Parcs. I found swimming for the first time really weird though - the bump sort of floats upwards and disappears - and then when I got out it started squashing my bladder again and i was desperate for the loo!
Managed to get on well with the ILs too although when we showed them the scan pics, my FIL said the baby was ugly

Congratulations to everyone who has had scans

Good luck with the scans today ladies and congrats to those with scans yesterday - fab news!

GYP - I also upgraded to Disc health. I caught the end of one of the "I didn't know I was pregnant" and was . It was a 57 year old woman who thought she was dying of cancer. I was in tears when she realised she was pg not suffering from cancer. But then it was disclosed that she had IVF 6 months previously, implanted with 3 embryos and then miscarried (which is awful). Conclusion was that she had miscarried 2 of the babies only. And although I was pleased for her I just thought, given that you had IVF and were implanted with 3 wouldn't you at least have taken a pregnancy test before putting yourself throught all of the cancer stress!!!!
