starshaker · 02/04/2010 19:15

Yeah all ok here, always keep up to date with the tread but dont have much to say really. Im sleeping for scotland though. Last night i went to bed at 8 and got up at 9.30 this morning which was good. Totally shattered now though.
Have my mw appointment on wed then heading up to aberdeen for a week. come home on the 13th and my scan is on the 15th so cant wait to find out what team i am. Really want to be team pink but will be happy as long as they are both healthy.

Do you think if i ask my consultant to section me at 36 weeks they would? They said they wont let me go past the 15th aug but dd starts school on the 16th. Thought if i had 2 weeks to get over the section it will mean i wont miss her first day

bouncingblueberries · 02/04/2010 19:32

Glad you're doing well starshaker! I went to Uni in Aberdeen - happy days!

Totally shattered now. I've been baking up a storm in the kitchen since 9am in preparation for ds's 4th birthday party. The first cake I baked was an absolute disaster - serves me right for trying to be posh and use butter instead of good old Stork! Second cake worked a treat though, then it was onto biscuits (stars and the number 4), followed by scones! Will have to bake another 2 batches of scones tomorrow, but they're fine and quick. Just got the sandwiches (jam of course! it is a party after all) to make, cream to whip and strawberries to hull and we're ready to PARTY!

Have a good weekend everyone!

bouncingblueberries · 02/04/2010 19:36

Oh - re: co-sleeping. Was really determined to get a bedside cot this time round to make co-sleeping easier, but there's just not enough room by the side of our bed . Looked at the little baby nest thing that lies up between your pillows too, but decided you really needed a kingsize bed to have enough room. So good old moses basket followed by cot at the bottom of our bed for us. Will co-sleep as much as possible though, when I'm not too exhausted. Found breastfeeding lying down a life-saver for us last time.

ElusiveMoose · 02/04/2010 19:47

Just dropping in to recommend a book, as I'm a bit busy. I really like 'Help, I'm a parent' by Gwen Rankin (there are loads of similar titles, but hers is the one I've got). The reason I like it is that it's one of the very few books that gives a really good idea of what it's actually like to have a newborn baby. So many books just talk about the birth, but then rather gloss over what happens next! (or give a ridiculously rosy picture of it). I found that all my baby friends wished in retrospect that they had given more thought to what happens after the birth.

It's also really good on men and babies. Loads of books just have a tiny and pretty patronising section on dads (which usually seems to talk primarily about sex - like that's the only thing that new fathers think about ). Anyway, it's got this really thought-provoking section about how dads often have a really weird experience after the birth - just when they've been through this amazing experience, and all they want is to be close to their partner and new baby, they end up going home to an empty house, often in the middle of the night, with no-one to share their experience with.

Anyway, got to go, my dinner's on the table (I love staying at my parents ). See you soon!

Bubbabear · 02/04/2010 19:47

Evenin all,
Have had a busy afternoon of last minute washing & packing as im off for a week in North Wales /Scotland tomorrow. Baby has been very active too, almost like s/he wanted to help pack, bless

We are going to a wedding on Tues & I have a choice of 2 dresses to wear. They are both about knee length & have half length sleeves. The one i was planning on wearing is dark blue, close fitting & has lace over the top with parts of it (ie sleeves) just sheer lace. I think it looks really nice but have been wondering if it looks a bit too sexy considering growing bump! lol The other (safer) dress is quite sweet but i could easily wear that when going to dinner in a restaurant or a nice day trip in the summer. Seems a shame to waste an opprtunity to wear the dressier one but dont want to be really self-conscious!

So what do you think - is the pregnant & sexy look acceptable or play it safe with pregnant & mumsy? lol Silly thing to be fretting over i know, but DP just plays it safe by givin me a gooey smile and patting bump. Stays completely unhelpful neutral.

PS just ordered my first book about childbirth

vix206 · 02/04/2010 20:20

Alice, re my leg pain I have tried everything but nothing helps I always wake up in agony. Had it really bad all day, I think I'll be off to the docs next week...

sparkle101 · 02/04/2010 20:38

Happy easter everyone!

Re: buying things - I have been very hasty and gone and bought the cot and the changing unit today - wanted to wait until later on but got very carried away with myself , didn't realise 24 weeks was such an important time - am now very worried I have somehow jinxed it.

Was going to ask a few of you that are on your second or more if the pain I get when I move very quickly / turn over in bed (which feels like a pulled muscle) is normal and whether I will have it for the whole pregnancy and if there was anything I can do to stop it?

Alicetheinvisible · 02/04/2010 20:41

Sparkle i am suffering quite a bit with that this time. It is mostly worse if i have done too much or standing too long. It feels a bit like a stitch and a bit like a really tight muscle.

Vix i have heard the leg cramps are linked to something being deficient in the diet but have no idea what

vix206 · 02/04/2010 22:14

Alice, its lack of calcium that can cause leg cramps....but mine aren't really cramps they start in the sciatic nerve and spread down the leg, feel kind of crampy but not actual cramps....

ElusiveMoose · 03/04/2010 08:25

Re the stitch pains, they're likely to be stretching ligaments. Yes, you will probably get them all the way through, though I do remember getting them more often in the first half of the pregnancy with my first. For me, avoiding sudden movements seems to be the way to avoid them (though it's hard to remember to do that!).

Bubba, if you're still managing to feel sexy in anything at all, then definitely wear it ! It may be quite a while before you feel sexy again, once you get more pregnant and than after the baby's born . Your dress sounds gorgeous.

Alicetheinvisible · 03/04/2010 08:52

Vix can you see a chiropractor? Mine is a Mctimony chiro and i saw her twice in my last pg.

Bubbabear · 03/04/2010 09:23

lol very true Elusive, thanks.

Have a lovely week everyone & best wishes to anybody with scans coming up x

aendr · 03/04/2010 09:30

Bubba go for the lacy one. Whether a dress looks sexy or not is all in the mind of the observer/wearer and who said a pregnant woman (who has most obviously looked sexy enough to get pregnant at some point) should only look mumsy? That's what keeps maternity clothes boring and staid! (Though my main wish right now was that maternity clothes designers didn't assume everyone has terribly narrow thighs - I can't find any trousers that fit!)

CherryPie3 · 03/04/2010 10:08

Morning everyone

Malteser Bunnies on the treats table - please help yourselves

How are we all today?

Bubba I second what Moose said - if it makes you feel sexy, then wear it!!

Sparkle Wherabouts is the pain? If it's in your pelvis I'd prob say SPD cos it's agony trying to turn over in bed with pelvic pain!!!

aendr Same problem here with maternity trousers!! I find next and mamas and papas to be about the best.

blueberries Hope your ds has a lovely day and the party gows swimmingly!!! Very much fancying one of your scones tho...

Update on weekend away - I managed to find a 3 night holiday to Barcelona for £74pp + transfers (but we know the area so will prob just get on a train) - do you think this is good? My dh still says we can't afford it Although we quite clearly can, I've told him I'm going anyway considering he spent £300 on a ONE NIGHT trip to Munich!!!

Men!!!!

Rant over - take care ladies

OP posts:
CazEM · 03/04/2010 11:20

for you cherry - men!! I would so be using his Munich trip as leverage! Wasn't that a football trip too?! If he can spend £300 on stupid football he can afford to take you away hun and not moan about it! Fairs fair innit!

Hows everyone doing this morning? I've had another lovely lie-in! If I get into this habit going back to work on the 12th will be an absolute nightmare!! Finishing for maternity seems such a long way away at the moment, aiming to go to 37 weeks, although my Mum is concerned about me trying to go that far cuz of the nature of my job... wish we could afford for me to have the whole year off and then trying to go to the end of term wouldn't be as important...

Trying to persuade DH to take me out somewhere for the day... ideas anyone?!

Alicetheinvisible · 03/04/2010 11:28

Morning ladies.

Word of warning.....Do not eat a whole chocolate bunny before bed. Apparently chocolate is a stimulant for unborn babies baby was kicking the crap out of me for hours last night.

CherryPie3 · 03/04/2010 11:37

Yep, that was for football. And I honestly do not mind him going - in fact I actively encourage him to keep in touch with his hobbies because I think when you have kids you need that.

But when the tables are turned I expect the same. Like you said - fairs fair. Half tempted to just book it, but I know I wouldn't dare cos I don't fancy a row - not when I've only just got him back from Munich. And I've told him that if theres enough money in the pot he can go to Lyon if Man Utd get through to next round.

But I want my trip first. He went to Portugal last year on a footie trip too - I seriously think it's my turn!!!

Whats the weather like where you are CazEm - trying to think of some nice things for you and your dh to do today.
Ideas so far are:

a picnic
day out for lunch/shopping
??
??
??

still thinking.
back soon!

CherryPie3 · 03/04/2010 11:39

HeeHee Alice Must've been the sugar content.

Mmmmmm, chocolate bunnies - was it a Lindt one?

OP posts:
NichyNoo · 03/04/2010 11:49

Hi all....am trying to catch up with all the chat!

CherryPie - definitely book the trip!!! If he can afford to travel round Europe following a bunch of blokes kicking a ball round then he can afford to treat his pregnant wife

Can I ask a question to all those who already have DCs please? Have been looking at prams, car seats etc. and the woman in the baby shop we went to the other day said that babies are only allowed to spend up to 1.5 hours a day in a car seat and no more. Something about it being bad for their spine which sounds perfectly reasonable.

I just wondered if this is true and if so, how do people get around this if they need to take a trip of more more than 45mins in each direction???? It is especially pertinent for me and DH as we drive between Belgium and the UK (8 hours each way) a few times a year.

CherryPie3 · 03/04/2010 11:57

Nichy Thanks

Gonna show him this thread I think (well, the non TMI bits )

WRT Car Seats - I've never heard of that before, when dd was tiny and small we travelled down to ST Ives, Cornwall which took 8 hours - we only stopped twice on the way down for about 15minutes each time - literally enough to heat a bottle and carry on!

She's 5 now and absolutely fine - she is a bit clumsy but thats because she doesn't watch where she is going - not because of a bad spine .

Hope this helps.

OP posts:
Alicetheinvisible · 03/04/2010 12:01

Nichy ideally yes, but i know lots of people whose children would only sleep in carseats at times and they are all fine. DD used to spend between an hour and 3hrs a day in hers while i did the horses and she slept.

I know that the travel systems where the baby's carseat fits the buggy are not as favoured as they once were because babies would be spending all their time in them iyswim?

Alicetheinvisible · 03/04/2010 12:03

Cherry yes it was a Lindt one (quite a big one )

CazEM · 03/04/2010 12:24

Cherry we are in Newport and the weather is quite rainy! - again, hope it picks up before DH goes back to work because he want so to go Castell Coch (its like a fairy princess castle!) one day next week to look around and have a picnic and that won't happen in this weather!

Think he's going to take me around a few shops, fancy visiting the Mama and Papas outlet shop and see if we come across any bargains and my Mum is making curtains for babys room so she wanted to know what poles are going up in there so she can make the appropriate curtain top - so may go find some we want... DH is a bit grumpy today, think he's overslept - he'll cheer up when we get in the fresh air! He can't be that bad cuz I got him to hoover around while I was in the shower! Haha the joys of being pregnant, its a great excuse for loads of stuff getting done, hope it lasts after baby arrives!

Regarding the carseats I had heard that they are not supposed to spend more than 2 hours at a time in the car seat (but had heard nothing about only that long in a whole day), so for long trips it would just involve taking more regular and longer breaks to give them a different position.... Its not like people do those sorts of trips with little babies daily so occasionally would we be fine wouldn't it as long as you took breaks.... We've bought a travel system of sorts - the car seat goes seperately to the pram on the chassis, so if we were only popping into a shop for 20 I think I would put her car seat on the wheels to save moving her from one seat to the other... I'm not even a Mummy yet and I'm already coming to the conclusion there are loads of things to guilt ourselves out about!

CherryPie3 · 03/04/2010 13:36

CazEm That sounds very productive - and he can still treat you to lunch while you're out
