CazEM · 01/04/2010 17:06

Haha Dibby - your joke made me smile!

neez congrats on your good scan! Let us know about in-gender predictions. They said girl when I put out 12 week up, and they were right! (Well as long as she comes out a girl!!) Your dream sounds like something out of the film Alien!! all my dreams so far have involved people hiding my baby from me or me running from horrible people with my baby. Any elightenment?!

Feeling a lot better now girls thanks, much more in perspective, and its really calmed me down having DH at home this afternoon. He is off until next Thursday now too cuz he's booked time off over Easter! I should've phoned my MW, don't know why I didn't - probably because there was nothing there this morning. I will try her in the morning just to inform her, see what she says and hope she hasn't go the day off because its Good Friday... annoyed with myself for not ringing today now... I'm just very tired now. Trying not to give into sleep and just have an early night tonight and sleep through hopefully!

pample - When we had out emerg scan at 14/15 weeks they put it down to cervical erosion. Is there any particular reason why its more likely at our age?? and no, no couple time yesterday, not since Sunday morning!

neenz · 01/04/2010 17:08

Maybe she's revealing some sort of secret desire there, dibby!

Bubbabear · 01/04/2010 18:02

Afternoon everyone, feels a lot later than that as i had an awful nights sleep and i have one of those big 4/5ft long sausage pillows & a normal pillow to support my back too! Usually works really well so not sure what happened last night , hope it was a one-off.

CazEm (and anyone else with similar experiences) just wanted to say ive had lots of bleeding through the pregnancy & appreciate just how scary it is. Its certainly not something you get used to! Had small, one-off bleeds at 8 and 10 weeks, emergency scans & was all fine & reassured. Then about a week & a half ago started having bits of intermittent bleeding everyday. Still have some & is horrible to see. Have been all checked out by numerous people (thats what my looooong trip to the hospital was about last week) & apparently its down to something called a cervical polyp (sorry if tmi!) Sounds pretty gross but im assured its nothing that will affect bubs & they prefer to sort it post-pregnancy depending on where it is.

Ive always found that if its not heavy & continuous bleeding (like a period) & you have no pain with it then its not considered very worrying. Though if anxious, as others said, always best to ask advice even if just over the phone.

On a nicer note, got some summer maternity clothes today, planning ahead (or wishful thinking)! Some nice white linen trousers & maternity vest tops that were v. cheap. Bargains - or thats how i justify it!

Off to see the Alice in Wonderland film this evening, not seen one in 3D yet. Hope i can keep my eyes open! How embarrassing if i fell asleep... Would have a coffee before i go but still really hate the smell Oh well, will just have to concentrate on the Ben & Jerry's instead ho hum...

Have a lovely evening everyone x

Alicetheinvisible · 01/04/2010 18:44

Ok, will try again. I have been banished to the sofa after having some uncomfortable braxton hicks so can have a bit of a MN catch up. I was in hospital at 26wks last pg having cx so have to be a bit wary.

Pillows - Primark had a pack of 2 for £3 or something, so thinking about getting a couple next time i'm in town.

Breastpumps - The Surestart Children's Centres loan out electric breastpumps free of charge, so going to get one from there.

Haven't got anything for this baby yet, we were going to dig out DD's old stuff to see what we could get away with using for a boy, then writing a list of the extra things we need so if anyone asks if they can get us something we can ask for something we need iyswim?

Also thinking of writing a hospital bag list soonish. As i have mentioned i spent time in hospital early on last pg, so perhaps i am more cautious, but thinking that babies can be viable from 24weeks makes me want to be a little bit organised

girlsyearapart · 01/04/2010 19:40

hi everyone just a quickie- a lady at playgroup who has 5 sons and 1 daughter said if you look on the scan pictures and see a pure white circle it's a boy..

I'm sure I can on our scan pictures but it could be a bone

Need to dig out the dds scan pics to compare.

So certified team blue-ers have a look and se if you can confirm!

Alicetheinvisible · 01/04/2010 19:44

Could see nothing on the pics as they are profile pics, but when scanning they looked directly between the legs and there were testicles and a willy really obviously.

LizzieA · 01/04/2010 20:22

Hello All,

I had my scan today, tadpole is still a boy!

The sonographer had a trainee with her so we were given a commentary of what was on the screen at all times, it was fantastic! I had a read of my pregnancy book to see what they're looking for this morning before we left for the hospital and I was mentally ticking off the list as she explained things to the trainee...kidneys fine, all chambers of the heart, lips etc.

We got charged for the photos this time though which I thought was a bit strange as we weren't for the 12 week one. I don't think the £3 will break the bank though and we came away with 7 photos (I think the sonographer got carried away showing the trainee how to do the prints). There is no way that we could have had a surprise, tadpole was wiggling his bits about from shot one and seemed determined to get his boy bits into every photo.

Neenz I've been having really weird dreams too. I had a really disturbing one where all of my male colleagues in work were claiming to be the dad of my baby in an "I'm Spartacus" fashion and I was desperately trying to explain to DP that I wasn't the office bike! I looked up dreams in the book (my pregnancy bible - The Day by Day Pregnancy Book)and it says that the increased oestrogen levels increase the levels of REM sleep and therefore dreams.

Alicetheinvisible · 01/04/2010 21:45

Glad the scan went well Lizzie

This baby is kicking the crap out of me. It seems to hit all the sensitive bits.

My weird dreams all centre around finding someone to look after DD/leaving DD at home while i go out and then remembering. They are quite upsetting. I think it may have something to do with the fear that DD will think i am replacing her and the worry what i will do with her while i'm in labour.

Think i will go to bed now - night

thecoffeelady · 01/04/2010 23:05

Super excited as this arrived today!

www.kiddicare.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/productdisplayA_165_10751_-1_14053_100837_10001_14053

I only ordered it at 4pm yesterday and its here already

We had a nice gliding rocker that was fab when dd was little but now she is really tall toddler its no longer that comfy. The new one is lovely and is all ready in the nursery all set up.

weehector · 02/04/2010 00:11

Dibby - ho, ho..and I'm rapidly developing the breasts of a 65 yr old (or a spaniel).

Yay for even more successful scans under our belts!

Cazem I've been getting tiny bleeds too, no explanation but MW has told me nothing to worry about. It scared the hell out of me the first time though.

Neenz is it ok to admit that my dreams have been extremely sexy ones..

I thought I was keeping up but I think you guys are starting to get a bit ahead of me thinking about labour & devouring lots of books. I think I've been too busy drifting along in my little dreams, cake baking & yoga fest for a bit. The first couple of weeks seemed like an eternity but I can't believe where the last 6 weeks have gone. I guess I'll have to get with the programme and start thinking about bags, birth plans, etc...the mere mention of the fact that one of us is having Braxton Hicks and the thought that our little babies could start being viable very soon is a wake up call to drag myself away from the Mamas & Papas catalogue & start thinking about the practical stuff.

I have a Miriam Stoppard book but if I was to buy another definitive book, what would I buy? And, if I was to start stock piling disposable nappies (booo, I know), which supermarket is the best for finding them on offer?

girlsyearapart · 02/04/2010 08:10

imo asda are best for offers. They do giant boxes of pampers and hugggies and their own brand is pretty good too.

Look out for their baby events. Also sainsburys have money off their baby stuff atm.

Don't go overboard on the newborn size though. They grow out of them pdq.

marzipananimal · 02/04/2010 08:18

coffeelady that chair looks lovely. Are the covers washable/easily cleanable? I'm thinking of getting some sort of gliding chair but not sure how to choose

Off to centreparcs today with the ILs so catch up when I get back.

Happy Easter!

Alicetheinvisible · 02/04/2010 08:40

Weehector (your name always makes me smile as we used to have a tiny pony called Hector!) First time around, i was in hospital with a badly broken leg at 20 weeks, so nothing got bought until 28weeks. But like i mentioned i was in having cx and leaking milk at 26wks, so feel the need to be prepared this time. At least so far as writing a list (love lists!) so that if DH needed to pack my bag he would get everything i needed iyswim?

We are also stockpiling films on our tv/computer for the long nights sat up with baby. Whenever a good film comes on tv we record it. DD and i watched My Fair Lady our second night home

Coffeelady i really wanted one of those chairs last time (and this time!) so

Emster30 · 02/04/2010 11:01

I'm just 2 days from the magic 24 week mark - feels like a milestone, even though I know only about 50% of babies survive then!

We haven't bought anythign yet. I kind of keep hoping parents/grandparents will offer to buy some of the big stuff - we shall see! We have got a few bits of second hand stuff, plus the family crib - not sure when to buy car seat and all the other things.

Alicetheinvisible · 02/04/2010 11:34

Is this your first Emster? With DD i was counting down the days to 24weeks and feeling that every day was a bonus (my mum has had all but one of us premature)

I didn't mean to frighten anyone just thinking out loud really. I like to write my lists but i am so unorganised nothing ever gets done til the last minute

It is likely that not all of us will get to 40weeks though (and some that will go over)

Feeling tired and hormonal today, bit constipated too which is probably not helping

Anyone suffering from horrid pg symtoms?

vix206 · 02/04/2010 11:43

Alice, my only complaint is the terrible leg pain at night which has stopped me from sleeping more than an hour at a time for the past week or so. Today it still hurts really badly too, it normally only affects me at night. It starts in my right buttock (I think its to do with the sciatic nerve) and then spreads a crampy/achy feeling right down my leg. Not nice at all

Aside from that no horrid symptoms. Boobs a bit sore again but can cope with that. Still wake up every day no matter how bad the sleep and think - YAY I've got a baby inside me!

Alicetheinvisible · 02/04/2010 11:45

Ouch! Have you tried sleeping with it raised? I have been having bad leg cramps (mostly in the injured one) but it seems to be ok by the time i have had a bath and gone to bed.

CazEM · 02/04/2010 12:00

Morning all! Loving the easter smileys!

Spoke to my MW this morning, she said that if there is anymore bleeding over the weekend to ring the ward at the hospital to be on the safe side but not to worry too much unduly. Theres been nothing since, I just think I overdid it Wednesday with my shopping trip!

My latest pg symptom Alice is very leaky boobs, it is flying out of me the last few days! Have stocked up on breast pads and now wearing a bra at night cuz I'd soaked the pillow underneath me!! I would be so embarressed to leak like that during the day, so religiously wearing pads now even if all seems fine!! Book says its normal at this stage to leak but how much is normal? It all feels a bit excessive to me atm!

Talking of going early as well - is there anything in your pregnancy that would idicate your likely to have an early labour? e.g. excessively leaky boobs?! (Feel free to yell at me about my paranoia!)

I have at the same thoughts as you Emster regarding the 24 weeks milestone, I actualy said to DH a couple of days ago that if baby was born in 2 weeks she'd have half a fighting chance...

coffee - lovely chair. I think we're going to get this one as we're having white cot/furniture in baby's room, girly theme etc; www.mums2b.co.uk/prod5.asp?ID=281&offset=&prod_id=194&grpid=194&#prod_anchor

Lovely smell of bacon coming from my kitchen now, the lovely DH is cooking me a full english for "breakfast" - I'm aware its nearly dinner time now but enjoyed a lovely lie in till almost 11 this morning!

Has anyone got any nice plans for Easter weekend?

CherryPie3 · 02/04/2010 12:11

Morning ladies

DH is home from Munich . Thank god - was like living without my arms with him gone!! God how silly does that sound!!!

Congratulations on all scans And team announcements - I've updated the list and will paste it below.

MrsZaC Great bargains you got there!!! Makes me wanna go back to the Hudds outlet!!

Trying to hold out for a bit tho. I want to get to 28/30 weeks before we go buy the cot and car seat etc. I feel like I've rushed into buying everything cos we've already got the pram, and all the essential clothes (although dd managed to spill orange juice on them - even though they were in a box, and still in their packets!!) So They all need to go through the wash already!! Gonna terrify the neighbours when they see tiny things on the line already They're all elderly too...

Cazzy I hope you had a fab day yesterday despite the rough start.

I'm 23 weeks now, been a bit naughty this week and haven't been for my bp check but thats because there were no appointments, and mw drop in is closed today so.... Back to normal next week tho I guess. Think the mw's are getting sick of seeing me anyway cos my bp has been consistently fine - I swear I think it went up because the consultant lady was so infuriating and patronizing.

Happy Easter ladies, I'm working today but am hoping you're all having lovely fab days!! We're planning a picnic on Sunday so hope the sunshine comes out

Cherry are they testing your bp every week just because it was high once? Seems a bit ott, or are they concerned about pre-eclampsia? I had signs of cholestasis last time and was induced but it was never confirmed - now they are saying they want to monitor me quite closely for it again, but I think monitoring often just leads to unneccessary interventions (altho cholestasis is quite serious and can raise risk of SB so I don't want to take chances), so I am a bit annoyed that I didn't get a positive diagnosis one way or other last time (they can do a test after the birth to confirm it). Now every time I itch I think oh no it is coming back! (Itching is the major symptom)

weehector, If I was to buy one book... it would depend on what you wanted to know about! If you are into natural birth then I can really recommend the Lamaze book Giving Birth With Confidence. If you just want a general pregnancy book What To Expect When You Are Expecting is good (tho it does get slagged off). If you want a book about how to look after a baby Miriam Stoppard's books are OK and (whisper it) Gina Ford's Contented Little Baby books were great for getting my twins into a routine and for tips on how to help your baby settle themselves.

Going totally the opposite direction to GF though... is anyone thinking of co-sleeping or did you do it with your previous LOs? With the twins obviosuly co-sleeping all the time was not really possible but I did often settle one then feed the other in bed. I would really like to co-sleep with this one (or at least use a bedside cot and bring the baby into bed to feed in the night so i don't have to get up!). But I want to read up on it - is the Continuum Concept the best one or are there others? Obviously I want to know how to do it as safe as poss. I am also hoping to carry this one round in a sling so my hand are free to do all the running round I currently do with two 2yos!

Alicetheinvisible · 02/04/2010 15:20

CazEm i was convinced i would have DD early. I had very early cx, leaky boobs etc, but in the end i went into labour on the due date and ended up having her the next day.

Neenz i co-slept in hospital with DD simply because i had had a cs and everytime DD was put down in her fish tank she would wake up and i couldn't pick her up again. Once home we had her in a swinging crib next to our bed, but i scared myself falling asleep whilst feeding her and waking up with DD under the duvet. Once she was feeding better and sleeping for 4-6hrs at a time she was put straight into her moses basket/bouncy chair.

weehector · 02/04/2010 15:43

Happy Easter all!

Alice list writing is my favourite thing in the world so I although I might hang off on buying things (mostly because I'm crap at making decisions and everything needs to be agonized over to the nth degree), the list writing begins now..

Mr Weehector and I are just heading out to have a non-baby, lovely day to ourselves involving a curry, the cinema, maybe a trip to the antiques warehouse and mooching and having coffees around Glasgow's west end. We're feeling justified because we've finished the emulsion in the hall and are onto the glosswork - 3 doors done out of 15 to do, it's going to be an endless task.

Neenz the Lamaze book sounds like the man, cheers.

Laters, have a lovely day whatever everyone is up to. We're off out to have fun - the only thing that could make my life perfect this minute would be if the baby could give me a few more kicks to let me know he's ok...think I have a sleepy baby today..

x

neenz · 02/04/2010 15:47

Thanks Alice. I never slept that soundly when they were in bed with me either but it was better than sitting up and trying desperately to stay awake!

And reading Elizabeth Pantley's website it says when you co-sleep you shouldn't sleep soundly and that 'the slightest sniff or snort from your baby should be enough to wake you ' - doesn't sound too refreshing does it!

So I think feeding in bed then using a bedside cot might be a good compromise - and like you once the baby's able to sleep for longer periods and through the night it will go in in its own cot completely (that was at 11 and 13wks old with the twins ).

I am so excited about it! (I am just very excited about what it's going to be like with just one baby!)

Which reminds me, where's starshaker? Hope you are ok!

CherryPie3 · 02/04/2010 16:04

Neenz Yep, it was just up once, it was 144/90

and now it's 125/70 everytime I go!!!
