Wooo got to hear the LO's heartbeat.
Midwife is properly fierce though!!!! Makes me glad she won't be delivering the baby. Blood pressure etc... all fine, yippeee!!
soontobefat I also have a 'friable' cervix. Caused me no end of worry in the early days and I still get the odd bit of bleeding (which means DH hasn't had any for weeks as that seems to aggravate it!). You'll be fine at the wedding I'm sure and disappointed if you don't go.

Rubena · 23/03/2010 11:01

Vix at mine (both babies) they rarely do weight (only did at my booking in one) but always do blood pressure and urine so I'd question that. Are you sure they threw it straight in the bin? Or could they have quickly dipped a stick in it first?
I didn't have an 18 week? Just booking in then 12 week scan at hosp then 16 week m/w then 20 week scan, then 2o week with consultant for cs stuff and will have a 24 week m/w then bloods done at 26 weeks
Not as many appoints though if it's the second pregnancy.

Rubena · 23/03/2010 11:04

oh forgot to say they have done Heart beat most times too. I didn't think they measure fundus and all that until about 26 weeks though, as you have the measurments at the scans

vix206 · 23/03/2010 11:06

Rubena yes she literally took it off me and threw it in the bin, like threw it across the room in to the bin! I was so shocked.

The reason I had an 18 week appt was that in Leicester they don't offer nuchal scans so the only downs screening you get (on NHS) is an optional blood test at 16 weeks - then you go back 2 weeks later for the results.

I was just surprised because when I went to the docs with my heartburn at 17 weeks he said my blood pressure was low and that he would make a note of it on the system so the midwife would take it again at my next appt. But she read the notes and didn't take it. And I stupidly forgot until afterwards, but to be honest it is obvious that my BP was low due to not eating for 2 days with the heartburn pains.

Rubena · 23/03/2010 11:11

I'd def question that Vix - they are adament I give them pee.... If I forget they make me do it on demand!
And I think bp is routine as well

soontobefatnat · 23/03/2010 11:13

Phew pample. Nice to hear I'm not the only one with a stupid friable cervix. And yeah, think it probably was sex what done it. Oops. Felt so worried yesterday, but much calmer this morning. Reckon you're right it'll be fine to travel etc. I need to be a bit less of a panicky pregnant woman!

CherryPie3 · 23/03/2010 11:35

Chulita Poor you, you must be exhausted!! Hope your dd is better very soon, you'll both sleep better then.

Nat Goodness how scary!! So glad everythings ok, bugger about the UTI tho!

Sooo hungry, I'm having cheerios and fruit for lunch, and a crunchie . Very boring lunch so am looking forward to making enchiladas for tea!! Yummy, enchiladas..... I've not been able to eat/make them since early pregnancy so I'm feeling a little deprived now.

11weeks on Friday til my leave starts - woohoo!!!!!!

Cherry you are making.me.so.jealous. Mmmm @ enchilladas. Make me some veggie ones?
I can't wait for my maternity leave either, but it won't be until July and I'm not even going to start counting the weeks as it'll be just too depressing.
Anyone fancy writing a paper on evolutionary psychology for me?!!

xx

helloooo · 23/03/2010 12:00

Hi everybody, the sickness has finally passed (touch wood!!) They do say it's in the second trimester that it goes but I feel like i have been waiting forever.

Hope everybody else is glowing!

Chulita · 23/03/2010 12:17

nat they should definitely be checking both blood pressure and wee, that's shocking that they're not. They could miss serious stuff! Question it at the next appointment for sure.
helloooo glad you're feeling better, enjoy the next few months of (hopefully) not feeling sick
cherry, do use a packet for your enchiladas or make them properly? I haven't found a good recipe...sharing's caring!
DD's refused to take a nap despite over an hour of trying so I'm having cuppas and eating my body weight in chocolate fingers at the mo. I have a pounding headache and was looking forward to a nap myself
Don't have anything for the cake table but I'm going to raid whatever's sweet and calorific from you lot

Alicetheinvisible · 23/03/2010 12:30

I have only seen my MW once and i am now 20 weeks. I saw her at 12weeks (ish) was meant to see her last week but got muddled up with days and missed it, so chatted on phone and will see her at 24weeks. I feel ok, but find i am listening to my body more iyswim?

Got some yummy crusty rolls for lunch to fill with posh ham and lettuce. Heartburn has already kicked in though - rubbish!

Has anyone seen the thread about weight gain in pg? Thought it was quite interesting. I read somewhere (a while ago) that 40 or so years ago they suggested you put on no more than 15-20lbs! but they also suggested you kept on smoking (for the stress) and you were allowed to drink too

I have put on half a stone so far, but some days i feel enormous and my bump looks ready to pop, and other days i am tiny. Must be gas

CherryPie3 · 23/03/2010 13:01

Hello again - lunch was miserable, was sat by myself in a corner of the canteen, everyone else eating lovely yummy warm things. And I was munching on my cheerios like a rabbit . Roll on teatime

Speaking of which....

I'm having cheesy chicken enchiladas yummy!!

For you Pample veggie enchiladas, equally yummy

Rubena Congrats on your scan honey, can't seem to find you on the list tho? Post your stats and we'll pop you on

Vix Midwife Appointments seem to be a disappointment all round tbh, only had my urine tested once, one prod of my tummy (different apmt), booking bloods and results, plus my weekly bp checks where nothing is done other than bp.

I don't think they start getting 'juicy' until 3rd trimester. Start palpating tummy and measuring tummy around 25/26wks I think.

Helloooo hi! posts your stats hun and I'll gget you on the list Glad your sickness has made its way out!

Chulita You sharing those chocolate fingers or what??

Alice That thread sounds enlightening - do you have a link?

Hoping everyones well xxx

ok, managed to be quite productive this morning. So what's for lunch? I'm sure someone mentioned enchiladas...

cherry why on earth did you have cheerios for lunch? why? why? why?

CherryPie3 · 23/03/2010 13:10

Blueberries Was trying the 'healthy' option after a weekend of pigging out. Had weetabix cho minis for lunch yesterday. Don't worry boss - won't happen again

I'm bringing lasagne for lunch tomorrow - I'll show em all with their scrambled eggs and micro meals

OP posts:
CherryPie3 · 23/03/2010 13:11

choc minis.

cheerios have scrambled my brain, I think.

Oh, and erm..... it was me who mentioned enchiladas

Cherry i found it interesting to see the different views on weight gain during pregnancy. It is here

Ended up having 2 rolls for lunch

ElusiveMoose · 23/03/2010 13:31

The whole weight thing is very confusing. I'm sure most things I've read said you only need 200-300 extra calories per day, and only in the last trimester, but then another (reputable) site I was looking at recently said that the baby puts on half of its total weight between weeks 20-30, and that you need an extra 500 calories per day at this time. Stuff it, I'm just going to eat roughly what I want to eat (within reason ) because it's the last time in my life that I think I can get away with it.

Blueberries, thanks for the carpet info. That's cheaper than I thought, and ours would probably be cheaper - we've only got one bedroom and the stairs and landing carpeted. Thanks for the offer of your guy's number, but where I am is probably a bit far from him, plus I know quite a few houseproud mummies around here who can doubtless put me in touch with someone local.

Vix, I'm quite for you, to be honest. At every appointment post 12 weeks, in both pregnancies, I've had BP, urine, fundus and heartbeat done. And the fact that your MW didn't check your BP when your doctor had flagged up a potential concern is frankly reckless. I'd definitely have a word next time.

Well, in spite of feeling pretty knackered, my day has been great. DS has been a total ray of sunshine today - one of those days that makes you forget all the downsides of being a parent. I really treasure these days, because we very nearly decided not to have children at all, so when he's like this I feel especially blessed (and sick to the stomach when I think that I might easily not have had him). He seems to have spent most of the day laughing, making me laugh or giving me impromptu cuddles. Even makes me forget about the massive tantrum he threw in the middle of the shopping centre yesterday .

ElusiveMoose · 23/03/2010 13:32

Oh, and I picked up a super-sticky, unctuous lemon drizzle cake at the farmers' market this morning . Having healthy fish tonight, so not feeling too guilty about it.

Aussieng · 23/03/2010 13:48

Hi all - how are we all. Just realised that MrsZ disappeared the day prior to her booking in which is alarming. Hope all is ok.

Vix I echo what the others have said. Your MW's attitude seems downright dangerous to me given all the potential issues which can be diagnosed from urine tests. I am on 2 weekly testing of mine due to an issue being flagged (funnily enough always get my appts on Monday mornings so I can go in to work late).

My bathroom scales are broken so I have not weighed myself in ages. I suspect that I am still below my pre-preg weight though. No-one seems remotely concerned so I guess the reaction to weight gain is just part of the ongoing demonisation of anyone over size six. I have never been anything larger than a size 12 dress size but techincally I border on the line between overweight and obese most of the time. The one time I realised that I had tipped over into technically obese I stopped paying any attention to anything the Dr's had to say about my weight because it is just bllcks. The only time in my life (age 19) that I was at my "ideal" weight I was bordering very seriously on having an eating disorder and was dreadfully unhappy too so to it all.

Anyhoo just been to the dentist for a scrap and polish (horrid) but consoled myself with a crunchie and heat magazine on the bus back in to work.

Bad news on DH's job is that his CRB check was 3 months old yesterday so is not longer valid for new job applications. That means that it will be at least 6 weeks until he can start his new job which is a real PITA. Bread and water for April - try not to make me drool with all your food talk next month ladies.

Ending on a positve note, I just officially submitted my maternity leave commencement request - 1 July 2010. Woo Hoo - 14 weeks to go (but I shall have at least 2 weeks holiday at the end of June too).

ElusiveMoose · 23/03/2010 13:56

Aussie PMSL at your 'scrap' and polish at the dentist. I've got visions of the two of you having a real tussle on the floor . Sorry about your DH's job, though - that sucks.

CherryPie3 · 23/03/2010 14:04

Alice Thanks for the link hun, will check it out in a sec.

Moose MW told me just to eat what I wanted, but not to go overboard - which hopefully I haven't been.
Bless your DS, sounds like he's sorry for his tantrum yesterday

Aussie Yuk to dentist! I've got to go on Thursday NOT looking forward to it at all!!!!

Aussieng · 23/03/2010 14:42

Lol Elusive what is it with my typing on MN? Letters missing on some words and added on to others On the other hand it felt that way just not on the floor - more like I was trying to burrow backwards into the chair as he was assaulting me! I consoled myself with my crunchie - take that Dentist, my teeth will not stay sugar free for long! And he told me to buy those crunchie sweet things that children use (the ones that stain your teeth etch and show where you have not brushed very well Still don't have to see him again for 6 months (unless I decide to get braces whilst on mat leave which I am considering). Vain - moi?

Spending afternoon watching progress of my mat leave application on the online system. Already approved by my approver now with HR for approval. Judging by how quickly they are dealing with my missing pension contributions (not that it matters since now DH does not have a job, I can't afford to pay them anyway) it will still be with them for approval on the LO's first birthday.

CherryPie3 · 23/03/2010 15:49

Aussie Can't believe your pension pymts problem is still ongoing - it's been ages since you told us about it!!!

Have been playing around with the list, to make it easier to read (and also to consider our ladies with pink aversions - is that ok? Will post so you can all see

What do you think? I've got it saved on my desktop at work so I don't need to type all the *'s all the time - bit of a cheat really
