Morning, or evening for you all...well it's nearly 8am here and dd has been awake since 4am, yes 4 o' frikkin clock in the morning. Dh went down to settle her back to sleep and next thing I know they're both watching TV in the sitting room with him saying "Oh...she didn't want to go back to sleep!" Err....at 4am she NEEDS to go back to sleep!

Anyway I expect her to go back to bed sometime this morning and I can get a kip then, looks like I'll need to drop her daytime sleep though...not today though...ergh, just hitting me, I will be up every night with a newborn in a few months and not able to sleep during the day like you can with your first...eeek. Oh well, I'll survive, everyone else manages it!

God i feel really miserable now. I also feel like i just want to eat soft stuff like mashed potatoe. Just feel rubbish! DH has gone out to see a tatooist about having another one, I wasnt very nice to him on his way out, i just think its an extravagance at this point in time. U dont see me going out buying a pair of shoes or anything, he says if he doesnt do it now he never will, and i dont disagree but still it does my head in.
I have got a maxicosi to go on my push chair frame. The seat bases are quite expensive but i think they are probably a good idea.

Aww, he's not that bad! Normally he is good at getting her back to sleep..it's not that often she wakes up in the night tbh...I thnk the problem is that her day sleep is getting later and later and yesterday she didn't wake up till nearly 4 - then went to bed at 7.30, so woke up in teh middle of the night. Prob need to get rid of day sleep but I do like having that hour or two in the day to go on MN get stuff done. I was a bit at 4am though...

Yep, I'm in NZ, in Auckland. Dd normally wakes about 7am so 4 was a bit of a shock to the system, that's for sure .

Has anyone bought anything from kiddicare website? After yet another falling out with sister (long story) decided I'd rather buy new cot and crib than her be able to retract the offer/loan at any point!

Seem to be some good deals on Kiddicare and quick delivery. Do I really need a crib and a cot/cot bed? Thinking of cotbed as lasts longer - any views/advice ladies?

Kapars well done asking for seat on the tube, I'm still too chicken or too London!!

flexab i went to kiddicare the other day as i work near it, they are really good and they also do price match, another good website is preciouslittleone.com im going to their show room next week as there seems to be a few good offers
dh maxicosi bases seem a really good idea my little half bro had one, the base stays in the car and its one button to release the seat rather than struggling with seatbelt everytime, if your car has isofix then you get one of those (which can be used in a car without isofix) if not you get the easifix base, hope this helps
after finally getting my outfit for tomorrow sorted i took my dog to vets for a follow up they are really worried about him and b4 i go to awards ive got to drop him at vets for a day of tests so now im worried about that and dont know how i will be able to enjoy the day plus now have to get up at 6 to get ready to leave for vet at 7, im sure i will look strange all dolled up at 7.30am!!

dh we had to get the easy fix base as our car doesnt have isofix. Wherever you go they should be checking the seat fits safely and securely in your car. All in for seat and base we were £180, expensive but they do have one of the highest safety ratings.

wss hope you managed to get dd down for a nap, you must be shattered hun

viksam i had a go at dp for still drinking on the basis that its an extravegance, so told him that if he wanted to keep it up then he's to expect me to spend the same cash on myself. Ask dh if he will give you the same for shoes. Dp is cutting out booze so worth a try

Well ladies i have hit over tired mode, out all day shopping and got hair done tonight which is gorg if i do say so myself lol. But its taking me ages to settle down. Need to sleep, chat soon x

Good morning ladies!

Having my midwife appointment today. Really torn if I want an elective or not... Had an emergency C-section because DD was 9.11, 56 cm and big head! (I know some of you Heroes! had 10 pounders and more) After wanting a home birth and 18 hours of labour.. Don't want to go through that again. I guess the midwife will chat to me today. I have a scan at 30 weeks to check LO size. But with DD they gave me one at 35 weeks and said she was 5 pounds! How did she put on 4.11 in 6 and a bit weeks? God knows! Oh well. I just need to wait and see I guess.

It's a lovely and sunny day here. DD woke up at 5am. But that's ok

Hope you have a lovely day!

jojo totally wish i could get an elective, have to speak to mw about my scar tissue downstairs. They did the same growth scan with me 3 wks before ds was born he measured 7lb 7 and was 3lb heavier at birth i think us who have biggies should be offered the choice. Hope your app goes well.

I plan to do nothing today, i am completely knackered. Its amazing how the tiredness comes and goes. Hows everyone else today? Anyone doing anything nice? X

flexab The thing is getting on the tube and standing there with an obvious bump while people ignored me was really stressing me out - I would get annoyed with how rude everyone was. So (after three months of working up the courage) I have found that if, as soon as you get on, you make a beeline for the special seats (that say FOR PREGNANT PEOPLE) and then say very politely "Could someone kindly give me their seat as I am six months pregnant and not supposed to stand?"....then people do jump up straight away.
So instead of getting annoyed at how rude people are I am instead feeling pleased at how helpful people are. I think people are just oblivious and if they do know you are in genuine need they will help.
I am still waiting for someone to say - no why should I? but they haven't yet.
GO FOR IT!!!

It's cracking the flags here today and I am working from home so may have to sit in the garden with my laptop.
Have a lovely day everyone.

Thanks memphis and stac re the car seats. How do I know if my car has isofix or not I sound so stupid but Ive never done this before!
Also was flicking through the local paper and came across second hand baby stuff, some things sound like they are in excellent condition and very cheap so will def be keeping an eye on those every week.

Ok so my car doesnt have isofix, so thinking I may look at other models before deciding, theres just so much choice!

Where have people bought/buying their car seats from? Im currently looking on mothercare website but wondered if there was any other places with more choice/better prices?

Report
orangefizz · 19/03/2010 17:39

DH try the kiddicare website when you have found what you want - Halfords also sometimes have special offers on and you can go and look at the different seats in there too. I got a mamas and papas that went with the pram last time, but will prob get a maxicosi this time and shop around for a good deal. Our car doesn't have isofix either so went for the strap-in base last time.

Hooray its Friday!!!!! (although DD is currently having a scale 10 tantrum in the room next door and i can hear her trashing the place so better grit my teeth and go and sort her out. Terrible twos....)

DesperateHousewife, some of the places I looked are:

Kiddicare
Oliver's Baby Care (Don't forget the MN discount!)
Pram Centre Online

I actually got my pram and associated stuff from the latter, who were masquerading as Glasgow Pram Shop at the Baby Show.

Hope that gives you a good starting point! I was warned to avoid Bambino Direct, even though it has some of the better prices online. Some horror stories from customers around if you look!

I went for the Britax Baby Safe Plus SHR for car seats myself, because of the safety record, it clips on to the B-Smart and has a single hand release from the docking unit. The docking unit comes in separate Isofix and Belted varieties, I went for Belted since I also have no Isofix in my car.

Thanks orangefizz and spirael I was looking at the maxi cosi base that uses the seat belt but when I add up the cost of that and the seat its over £200 so I think I can get something similiar for much cheaper. Also I think MIL is buying us a pram so will need to make sure she gets one that is compatible with the car seat if im going to go down that route.
I will have a look at those links spirael thanks

stac14 · 19/03/2010 19:27

spireal they are the glasgow pramcentre, its the only actual shop lol.

Thats were i got my car chair, its an easyfix base as our car doesnt have isofix but its so simple dh They say 2nd hand baby stuff is fine but not a car chair especially if its from someone you don't know. My dp works in a crash repair centre and he says even though the car seat doesnt look broken its still not safe.

Whats the plans for the weekend ladies? Think i'm going shopping again. X

Hi all
Generally feeling a bit rough atm. Sick if I eat too much, sick if I get hungry. Anyone else finding it a grind having to eat so often? Need more snack ideas.

DD is currently insisting on sleeping in her wedding shoes every night and doesn't seem to get that it isn't going to be a regular event! She has also decided that she is capable of changing her own nappy when she gets up, last two mornings I have woken up to a little girl in nothing but a vest, yesterday wee only not a biggie, today she explained how she had poo on her carpet because she had sat on it, thankfully was a machine washable rug, god bless ikea.
