Morning ladies,
becky hope everything is ok. These bleeds are very common but you should always get anything that worried you checked out and not feel bad about phoning dr and midwife.
I am always ringing mine about one thing or another!

My infection is easing off with the antibiotics, if indeed it was an infection as the GP wasn't sure.

Had lovely weekend surrounded by babies and pregnant people! Went to visit my friend with her newborn daughter on Saturday (lovely but VVVV hard work! yikes...)
Then Sunday went to lunch with two friends who are both pregnant and one is a week overdue and in the pub were her entire NCT class with all their newborn babies.
So had uninterrupted baby and pregnancy and childborth talk!

Is everyone else starting to feel really knackerd again now? I am 28 weeks on Friday and definitely lost any energy I thought I had picked up last few months.

stac14 · 12/04/2010 10:45

Morning ladies

wonder my dp is generally good at helping but housework for him is dog walking, dishes (if he can be bothered) and hoovering. He has had to help more due to my spd but otherwise the way he sees it, hes at work all day. His dads v.old fashioned the man should work the woman looks after the kids. Totally forgetting i was earning and will be earning more money, its such a joke. (soz jumping on rant wagon)

mlic glad to hear ds is better. How are you?

kapars i had the same, dip stick showed nothing but antibiotic really helped. You have had a baby packed weekend lol bet it was great i love baby talk.

becky let us know how you get on today hun, sure all will be fine

jojo i have to nag for help too its a pain in the neck lol

What you all up to? My room is a tip, need to sort it as bil is supposed to be decorating tomorrow x

Hi stac and girls I need some re-assurance or opinions please.

I decided that definitely want an elective! Just freaking out about talking to my midwife about it. But I am pretty sure I have the right to choose after having an emergency c-section last time...

I found this article ; "Even if you're a good candidate for a VBAC, there's a very small risk (about 1 in 100) that your uterus will rupture at the site of your C-section incision, resulting in severe blood loss for you and possibly oxygen deprivation for your baby. The risk of uterine rupture is somewhat higher if your labor needs to be induced or augmented.

Also, if you end up being unable to deliver vaginally, you could endure hours of labor only to have an unplanned C-section. And while a successful VBAC is less risky than a scheduled repeat C-section, an unsuccessful VBAC requiring a C-section after the onset of labor carries more risk than a scheduled C-section. With an unplanned C-section after laboring, you have a higher chance of surgical complications, such as excessive bleeding that could require a blood transfusion or a hysterectomy in rare cases and infections of the uterus and the incision. And the risk of complications is even higher if you end up needing an emergency cesarean.

Finally, there is the risk of the baby having a serious complication that could lead to long-term neurological damage or even death. While this risk is very small overall, it's higher in women who undergo labor before a C-section."

Sorry it's long but if any of you had a c-section and has doubts.... My friends who had consecutive c-sections were very well and one who attempted vaginal birth had bad complications... I feel a little guilty, but don't want to go 2 weeks overdue like last time, an 18 hour labour and end up with a section anyway....

I hope the midwife understands my point on friday.

Morning all! Hope everyone is doing ok today. The weather in my neck of the woods was lovely over the weekend! I got loads of washing done and dried. It's greyer and colder out there now, but I'm back at work so not too worried.

Regarding the homemade ice-cream discussion that cropped up, I think it's the raw eggs that cause the issue there. I make homemade ice-cream on occasion but the recipe I use calls for the eggs to be cooked in with the mix ahead of freezing. Provided the ice-cream is then eaten in a timely manner (as if fresh ice-cream would last long!) then it is unlikely to be an issue. Homemade Toblerone ice-cream is delicious, by the way.

I guess I'm pretty lucky in that DH and I share the household chores pretty much evenly! I reckon he probably does a bit more of the day-to-day cooking, whereas I tend to do the majority of the laundry. But that seems to suit us fine.

He notices mess slightly later than me, but if I comment that it's getting messy then I tend to return shortly after to a tidied room! Meanwhile, he comments that the car is making a funny noise or the oven isn't lighting properly, then tends to return to find it resolved by me. We each have our areas of expertise, it seems!

Things are going to get manic though for the next month, as poor DH is studying every weekend for his accountancy exams at the end of May. So I'll be supporting him by keeping the household running. Problem is, I'm starting to notice things getting a bit harder to do, having to really think whether getting down onto the floor is worth the effort it'll take to stand up again!

I'm also finding issues with laced shoes, Wonderstuff. Especially when I'm wearing jeans! Very that you've got your DD trained to help. I've been trying to train my cats to bring me my shoes and lace them up, but it's not going very well... They keep meowing something about opposible thumbs. (Well it's either that or they're hungry.)

My MW appointment went well on Friday. My BP is still nice and low (but not too low!) and my pulse was a healthy 81 too. Received, filled in and posted my HiP claim form, looking forwards to that nice £190! Got my MAT B1 form too, so I can hand that over to the HR department. I got to hear LO's HB again, though it was mildly entertaining as LO insisted on repeatedly kicking the doppler off my stomach!

Got the future nursery cleared out and the protective sheeting laid out all ready for decorating next week too. So I had quite a productive weekend, really!

Unfortunately, I have that slight soreness at the back of my throat and the beginnings of a stuffy nose... I really don't want another cold! I've been having one per month lately, it's getting annoyingly repetative! Are there any nasal sprays I'm allowed at all?? If I could just get my nose cleared and breathe through the night, I'm sure I could fight it better!

Wonderstuff · 12/04/2010 11:48

Well am now up and dressed and dh has phoned with details of the NY weekend which has brightened my mood. No way am I going to get everything done today - keep having to stop because I'm hungry isn't helping, but mil is going to take dd on Wed, so going to do house today and school work on Wednesday and if I have to work on Sunday as well DH will have to take dd.
Spireal I used a calpol vapour plug in at night for my last cold, that helped at night to clear my nose. Karvol or Olbas oil are safe surely?

Jojobil I think that if you are happiest with an elective that has to be the way to go, imo going into a vaginal birth with serious anxiety about the outcome is bound to make an emergency c-section more likely.

I've been thinking about birth too. I had a textbook vaginal birth last time, and at that time I was confident, I only knew two people who had given birth recently, one had a really good experience, and the other had such a horrific time of it that I wasn't too worried because I was sure that what happened to her was so rare that it wasn't going to happen to me. Anyway now I know a load more women who have given birth, 4 who have had emergency c-sections, 2 who had forceps and only 1 other who had a straight forward birth without intervention. They all had healthy babies, made full recoveries and 2 of them are expecting their second, just makes me wonder if I was just really lucky, I'm really scared by the thought of forceps, not that there is much I can do about the whole thing really now is there.

stac14 · 12/04/2010 11:52

jojo i have had friends who have only had sections and been totally fine. I am at mw on monday and i am going to ask for an elective section. I'd rather have a scar than have the chance of double incontinance.

spireal i've felt the sore throat etc but begining to think its hayfever. But my gp says lots of nasal sprays are fine, but you may need your doc as the pharmacists are overly cautious bout what they give you. X

Jojobil · 12/04/2010 11:55

Thank you Wonder that makes me feel a bit better! I was supposed to have a home birth last time and was very positive about it all.

I think that if your first one went so well you are very likely to have another positive experience.

I love New York! Do you know it already?

And regarding shoes, laces are a no go Pumps that are easy to slip on are the only way to go for me

Jojobil · 12/04/2010 11:57

Please let me know what the MW said stac .

Wonderstuff · 12/04/2010 12:13

DH has never been before, I went once on a 6th form history trip, so many, many years ago. Got 2 nights, so going to do all the classic touristy stuff, empire state, met museum, staten island ferry, go out for a couple of nice meals and generally enjoy some time away from dd (guarenteed we miss her like hell and spend half the time talking about her).

Anyway finished snack (bread rolls, cheese and chocolate, yum) so must get on.

stac14 · 12/04/2010 12:33

jojo my apps not till next monday hun x

OP posts:
Jojobil · 12/04/2010 12:35

Wonder you might wanna miss the empire state building unless you fancy queuing for an hour.... Not the best for a pregnant lady... But all the rest plus central park sounds great. You will have a blast!

Jojobil · 12/04/2010 14:28

Ah so I will see my mw first stac I guess I will let you know what she said

DesperateHousewife21 · 12/04/2010 15:14

Hi ladies,
Was wondering if you could put my mind at rest, I havent really felt LO move much today, by this time Ive usually felt strong kicks and punches but have barely felt anything and the more I think about it the more its making me worry.

I dont really know what Im asking for, reassurance or advice as to what I should do?

Thanks

Jojobil · 12/04/2010 15:31

Desperate i you are worried call your midwife. But I am 28 weeks pregnant with my second - so should be more sensitive then you... And I sometimes go for a couple of days without feeling LO much at all.

kapars · 12/04/2010 16:24

desperate Call the midwife. I am sure it is absolutely fine but it is just better for you and baby to put your mind at rest. Midwife will know if you should wait a bit longer or whether you need a quick check-over.

stac Glad you said that about the dipstick - makes me feel better about taking the antibiotics now.

DesperateHousewife21 · 12/04/2010 16:39

Hi thanks for the responses, I went and laid on my left in bed after I posted and he started moving quite alot and then stopped and havent really felt him since so Ive been keeping myself busy, I havent done anything at all today and decided I think as Ive been sitting down waiting for him to move all day Im focusing on it more IYSWIM.

stac14 · 12/04/2010 16:40

jojo That would be great hun, my aunt very wisely said its your body and you know how it was last time, just be straight and the mw/cons should be much more helpful

dh have you tried drinking a really cold drink? that sometimes gives them a shock and makes them move. My lo doesnt seem to stick to the same pattern and to be honest think it depends on the mood she is in regarding moving. If your worried call mw, i'm sure you will be fine hun

kapars think the infection as to be at a certain level for the dipsticks to work and since gp has given you the antibiotics he is unlikely to contact you about it

Any word from becky or have I missed her post? Hows everyone else? xxx

OP posts:
DesperateHousewife21 · 12/04/2010 17:01

stac yeah Ive tried drinking a cold drink.
Im not overly concerned as I have felt him today but if hes like this 2mo I will call the mw as I think he should be moving more just as I know what hes usually like and this is quite slow for him.

Jojobil · 12/04/2010 17:02

That's true stac and desperate also if you have a coca cola I know it's naughty, but I have one occasionally and my LO kicks a lot after....

Chulita · 12/04/2010 18:08

coca cola is naughty?? I practically live on the stuff at the mo!
dh hope you get lots of kicks to set your mind at ease!
Need to catch up with the thread but DD is swinging off my trouser leg so MN might have to wait...

DesperateHousewife21 · 12/04/2010 18:12

ooh yes I do like coke every now and again so will have some of DP's! I had a real craving for it very early on in pregnancy.

memphis83 · 12/04/2010 18:39

dh caffine or sugar of anysorts usually get s LO moving but when i banged my stomach the other week he hardly moved for 2 days so i called mw and they said any slow of usual movements is worth checking... as soon as i got on bed at hospital he went mad in there!!

went for a 2 hour drive today to get a cot, shop online looked really good and big and wthen we got there it was rubbish, i bought a blanket though! so we are going kiddicare after work thursday, as we pass it on way back home!

went to see my friends 2 week old baby today, she is gorgeous and tiny! i nearly cried, didnt used to be maternal at all but my hormones have made me a mess!! she was first person in real life who has given me proper advice without patronising!!
dh should have been away all week but although he will be late he will be home tonight, as hes away then til friday and all next week too!

kkfairybrains · 12/04/2010 19:42

dh im sure LO is fine but dont feel silly or anything for ringing midwife as thats what they're there for hun x
thats a bit of a PITA about the shop memphis! i've decided not to do the nursery until babs is here. gonna have it cleared and the wardrobe ready to put clothes and stuff into but not going to paint it until i know what we have! gonna go for green and white if its a boy and prob a light pink if its a girl!
well was in my aunts yesterday and they were all talkin about this holiday in may that they're going on and i was feeling very left out so i've decided to go! i'l be 34 weeks but have checked travel insurance and all and i'll be covered so have a docs check up on wednesday morning so i'll double check with them that im ok to go and i'l book it then! its a villa holiday so literally would just be chilling out by the pool all week.
have the glucose test at 8 in the morning and then off to a spa tomorrow afternoon! my friend got me a pregnancy massage as a present and she's coming too and we got a half day spa package too so we'll be able to use all the pool and spa area and relaxation room! really looking forward to it and hoping it will ease my back a bit.
wonder really feel for you re dh.sometimes they just completely take you for granted and its really irritating.thank god i havent had that complaint lately but thats due to a lot of arguments in earlier days!
hope everyone feeling good xx

DesperateHousewife21 · 12/04/2010 20:07

Thanks memphis and kk I think as Ive got an anterior placenta on my left side hes laying that way so hes kicking the placenta as when I lay on my left side thats when I can feel him more and hes over that side but as I said if hes still the same 2mo I will call my mw and see what she says.

Thats if she answers her phone though, a few weeks ago when I was throwing up and worried about LO I callled her mob and it just rang through shes not the best mw in the world tbh. Ive got other numbers to call in case of emergency though.

memphis83 · 12/04/2010 20:09

kk i agree with you on the arguments in the early days, these arguments made my dh realise im not a soft touch and i now need help, it proves when hes away that it is my dh causing mess as when hes away with work i just pick up after myself and house is spotless when he comes home ( this will obviously change once LO arrives im sure)
i forgot to ask earlier ive got my 28 week check next week and kk reminded me, is this my glucose test as i havent been told that i have to do anything b4 i go,just that i have a lot of blood tests on that day so do i need to fast or anything?
