Matalan quality is good for the price and even if they dont last they are cheap enough to be replaced.
No I wont be using a quilt, if its a hot summer prob wont be using much!

kapars · 05/04/2010 12:42

stac That baby name tester link is fantastic. I was 70/80% sure of the name we've chosen but now am 100%!! Love it. x

memphis83 · 05/04/2010 14:37

dh for moses basket ive bought fitted pram/moses sheets, i agree that matalan are really nice i got some cot sheets in cream and beige with animals on them 2 for £8 also another place ive bought sheets is asda, i washed them last week and they are lovely i think for cot bed they were £8 for a pack of 2 buy 2 for £10!
stac love the name checker! when we were thinking of names at the start we would always say the names then get down those stairs now!!! weather is so rubbish here so weve ventured home early!

viksam · 05/04/2010 17:29

Hi Ladies,
I have spent the last few hours catching up on the thread, with a bit of sleep and eating thrown in!! I have had such a lovely lazy day today but i really needed it. I spent the weekend in brum with the family and it was very tiring but such food for the soul. I brought my first bits and pieces punchaces, TKMaxx is ace if you can be bothered to mooch, i got some bottles and a changing mat and a 6 piece outfit and a swadle thingy. I also got some vests from sainsburys, 5 for £4 i thought that was good value. What will people be dressing LO in, i thought vests, meaning all in ones with no arms and legs, then like a sleep suite, with full arms and legs?? I really have no idea coz then there are the ones with short arms and no legs, they just confuse me!I also borrowed a moses basket from my brother, its a bit worn but its ok. My SIL's sister has also used it, do u think i should buy a new matress for it?? I mean i'll wash it all and stuff. Glad to read the conversation re cot matresses, i have gone for sprung, so glad that was the general outcome.
spireal I went for my 25 week appointement last week and she did give me my application form for my grant. I had already got my MAT B1 form because work needed it. Be aware though if ur DP is wanting paternity leave from work he will also need the origional MAT B1 form, I need to phone up and get another one.
Memphis Oh wow those 3D pics are amazing, you must be really pleased.
becky so glad everythings ok, that must have been really scary!
I may pay a visit to Matalan too, bedding is one of the other things i have to get, also have to get bath stuff too but gona hold out till the NCT sale in my area and see whats there.
I feel really relaxed and happy after my weekend, my family are all really behind me and I really feel like i can start to enjoy this.........at last!!
We decided not to go abroard on holiday, tenerife has got noro virus according to trip advisor and DH realized that its not a good idea for him to be going in the sea or swimming pools with his new tattoo!! So we are going to ST Ives, to a really nice B&B, which will be lovely, fingers crossed the weather is good! I think after we have had a few days away we can draw a line under the last five months re DH's dad dying and family trauma and really focus on the future. Im really looking forward to doing the babys room up and all of that sort of stuff so heres to the future and feeling positive! Im going to try and quickly enjoy this rush of good feeling before it slips away!!
Whats everyone done today?

Jojobil · 05/04/2010 18:46

ST Ives sounds great viksam I was at my friends for lunch and got home with an changing table (already in the bathroom) and a cot. Yippeee! There are some little teeth marks in places, but it's in good condition. I have to order a mattress and a changing mat soon!

kkfairybrains · 05/04/2010 18:58

aw vik you sound so content and really happy for you! you've had a rough ride between all and glad your looking to the future now xx
stac that link was cool! i tried out ellie and sonny and very happy with them both!
crappy day here today weather wise so haven't been up to much!dp came down to me in my mums after his weekend away and he's very sick! no sympathy cos its all self inflicted! he's bringing me away for a few nights as my birthday present and we'r hoping for next weekend so looking forward to that whenever we go!
everyone is getting so organised! my granny is buying the cot so think we'l wait til after bubba is born to get it as the moses basket will be in our room.

DesperateHousewife21 · 05/04/2010 19:12

vik I had a look round tk maxx, didnt really see anything I liked but I didnt look in great detail just at some clothes but didnt really think they were good value for money but what you bought sounds great.
I think it'll be quite hot when our LO's are born so am prob going to stick to all in ones with short sleeves and legs and then at night put him in a vest with sleepsuit over the top and then either no blanket or one depending on temperature.

DP put the cot up today! It looks so lovely and luckily its the right size for the mattresses being sold so they havent changed size in the past 10 years!

Ive got my mw appointment on Wed so will get my HiP form then once that has come through will be getting more things for LO. The bits and pieces for him are all just bunged in the spare room (will be his room) so will need to sort it all out at some point.

stac14 · 05/04/2010 20:09

Evening all,

Glad you all like the name checker, really test drives the name

viksam st ives sounds lovely and close to home. Bet you cant wait for the break. I would buy a new mattress to be on the safe side, just because they change safety measures so often.

jojo i like matalan, as dh says it defo serves its purpose. The clothes are lovely too.

memphis i bought those sheets lol. Also got some lovely baby grows and vest.

Fab news bout the cot dh are you going back to babiesrus for your mattress? They seem to have a good range.

kk were you off to for the weekend? I hope you get spoilt

kapars hows things with you?

Regarding clothes for lo i have bought body suits (short sleeve no legs) and baby grows (arms and legs) so i'm thinking if its very warm just a babygrow and cooler it will be bodysuit and babygrow. I have also bought the baby sleeping bags which are great as it prevents covers from falling off making baby wake up with cold. I have bought normal clothes for day time such as leggings, dresses and stuff so she has nice clothes to, for which i have to thank primark and asda lol x

memphis83 · 05/04/2010 20:34

vik that sound lovely, weve been trying to think of something to do b4 LO arrives and dh suggested camping in may, im struggling to get off the floor now so i think that will be a no-no lol!
stac asda have some lovely little outfits, i was shocked at prices in mothercare £14 for 1 outfit so we went asda and got some for £5-£7 you cant go wrong, ive bought some fab little baby grows with no arms and feet 2 so lets hope it isnt a cool summer, i love it that we are now all discussing outfits!
kk i love the name sonny!!!

my step mums mum was talking about names today and kept going on about the name freddie and how she hates it (its my grandads name and dads middle name) and how dad wanted my little bro to be called freddie it was really awkward as we have decided on this as a middle name but want to surprise my dad when he is born, i was dreading dh saying oh weve decided on that i had to get my step mum to shut her up b4 my dad commented!!! my step mum knows about this name and diverted conversation beautifully!

stac14 · 05/04/2010 20:51

memphis yeah asda is fab for outfits, have you saw the disney stuff? They had boys dungarees with hat and t-shirt for £9 so cute. Tesco also has gorgeous clothes x

OP posts:
viksam · 05/04/2010 20:56

Stac if you like disney you would LOVE what MIL has just given us. She went to Disney land Paris last weekend and brought us back a really lovely 6 pce white outfit with a zip up top with a hood and little ears all with thumper on them. They are 6month size so ideal for xmas, cant wait to put LO in it!

stac I had a look on their website but its hard to know how much to spend on a mattress. As I've never bought one before I dont know what is too much and what is really cheap.
I just want a middle range one, would you say thats around £50?

stac14 · 05/04/2010 21:25

yeah probs between £50 and £80, keep an eye out for discounts hun x

lois is lovely mlic! stac never seen that name before how would you pronounce it? its different and pretty too! and the little outfits sound gorgeous! makes me want to know what im having so badly! theres only so much neutral stuff you can buy and between myself and mum we have it all bought!oh and the weekend away we'r going to westport.its a little town in west of ireland and i'v never been and its supposed to be lovely!
thanks memphis its the only boys name the 2 of us love but we'r still open to suggestions.and i think it was you who said about the name freddie?! if it wasn't, sorry!but thats a gorgeous name!

memphis83 · 06/04/2010 09:16

kk was going to have freddie as his 1st name but where we live a lot of people dont pronounce the ie or y's so it ends up being fred-eh which i hate, my dh is finally saying ie after years of saying eh! so as my dh told his dad our baby name i dont feel so bad now were going to call him dexter freddie, although this could still change! my dad will be over the moon when he finds out!
stac the disney stuff in asda is lovely i got the thumper romper that says dont mess with the little guy and im going back today to loook at some more!
mlic lois is really pretty and goes really well with the middle names! i agree witht the matress thing that you should alway get another one especially if its from a friend or relative but 8 weeks used by yourself wouldnt be a problem surely!
hope you all have a good day, ive got day alone today which im looking forward 2 after a long weekend with no time to myself!

DesperateHousewife21 · 06/04/2010 09:48

Morning all, my new phone should be coming today really excited I love getting new things and it feels like its free as its an upgrade and the same price Ive been paying for the last 18 months.

We still havent decided on a middle name for Dylan, we were going to have Nicholas as thats DP's middle name and his dads middle name but I dont think Dylan Nicholas really flows well so will have to have a re-think about that.

stac yeah will def keep an eye out for discounts, its not vital we get a cot now as he will be in the moses basket in our room at first so have a few months to browse different shops yet.

Its so sunny today its lovely really feels like spring! I feel like Im in such a better mood when its sunny outside

Spirael · 06/04/2010 10:48

Morning all! I hope everyone is doing well today and that you all had an enjoyable time at Easter.

Easter was the 24 week viability marker for me, so I now have permission from my DH to advance the baby preparations some more. Muwahahah... One of the things we did was pick up the cot drawer, moses basket stand and mattress from where they'd been delivered to my inlaws. The mattress (I think I linked it previously) was around £30 for anyone currently looking and seems to be good quality to me.

Also got a call over the weekend that the Glasgow Pram Centre finally have my travel system in stock! (I was warned it might take a while as the system is new for this year and I'm getting the less popular colour.) I've arranged for it to be delivered in two weeks time, which is the week DH and I have off work for decorating the nursery.

I think I've got everything gathered now for sorting the nursery, I'm quite excited about putting it all together! We're going for a unisex jungle theme, I have some adorable wall stickers to put up once we've finished painting. I'll take some pictures when I'm done!

Hard to believe I'm just over a fortnight away from the third trimester. I guess quite a few people are already there?

I'm guessing it's during the third trimester that things'll start going downhill again in terms of pregnancy symptoms? I've been very lucky to have not really suffered from much during the past few months. I'm sure everything will catch up with me sooner or later.

The clothes people are getting sound adorable. I'm trying to be restrained myself, I've bought 7 vests and 3 sleep suits in both newborn and 0-3 months sizes and figure that hopefully one or other will fit! My family have a history of big babies... Once we know what size LO is, then I can arrange for more clothes.

However I did have a moment of indulgence and picked up two adorable little dresses from Monsoon in size 3-6 months during their winter sale. I don't know for sure beyond the NHS scan what LO's gender is, but odds were leaning towards getting dresses.

At worst, I figure they'll make nice gifts for someone else if they're inappropriate for my LO!

stac14 · 06/04/2010 11:04

kk its pronounced Riley, or Rilee depending on what you prefer. We've had mixed opinions so we'l see lol. I really like sonny and ellie.

viksam i posted last night to memphis and it was meant for you lol. The set from disney land sounds gorgous. I do like disney stuff but also love the cute dresses and stuff

mlic meant to say i have bedding of my own from matalan and asda and never had any problems with washing or them being bobbly so assumed the kids bedding would be the same hun.

dh i just wanted my stuff in so its here incase lo is like her brother and grows out her moses basket quickly lol. A lot of the shops are doing baby weeks and stuff so i'm keeping my eye out for them x

Hiya, Great reading all the posts and getting excited about names, outfits and furniture! We really are so close to having our babies now!!!

I ordered the cot, matress and car seat from kiddicare yesterday- saved £55 in sale so happy with that! Its all due to be delivered tomorrow so since i'm off work all week i can start getting organised

I was in asda yesterday, was really disappointed with their selection of maternity clothes but absolutely loved the baby stuff! their disney things are so so so CUTE!!! I loved the thumper blanket and lots of the other things but they didn't have much neutral stuff so we won't be buying much until baby is here
SIL got us the sleeping bag from disney store- its dumbo and so very cute

I have my 3 nieces today as SIL was taken into hospital with kidney problems, MIL is with her until her DP get there then she is coming to get the girls so might migh another couple of hours. Its raining non stop and they have so much energy! Also DH worked til early hours this morning so he is still sleeping so trying to keep a bit quiet! think i'll need to find some craft stuff- sure i have random stuff somewhere!!! feeling a little out of my depth they are 4, 8 and 9! any tips?

Pootles2010 · 06/04/2010 11:41

beckyg - could you take them to the cinema? What with it being easter there should still be stuff for kids on - i think i saw Nanny McPhee is on?
