Mummywilliams Fantastic news about the scan!!!

Nymph I'm surprised that you're so behind if I'm honest. I thought you would have been the same week as me. Where are you going on holiday to? (starts packing night vision goggles and combats) Not that I'm interested at all (whistles).

Abfab You're in your second trimester, fantastic news!!!

Tyson Great news about your booking appointment, I hope they can get your scan booked in for next time.

Nymphadora · 29/03/2010 20:52

hermya NYC!!!!!!!!!! Gonna be a long way to stalk me! MW said that this week was far too early for my 12 week scan. And am 12 next week so am now scanned at 13.

Hermya321 · 29/03/2010 21:20

Nymph (grumbles about prices of plane tickets) Gosh it is a long way isn't it, thats so exciting and I'm very very jealous. I would LOVE to go to NYC, I would hit the clinique counters with a venguence and then some.

Vikks · 29/03/2010 21:33

Another great scan here!!!!! Our little one was waving and doing acrobatics. It was so wonderful to see, I feel great. EDD was the same and we?ve got three lovely photos. I?ve been ring round our family and friends tonight spreading the news.
I hope everyone else has great scans too!

SilverSky · 29/03/2010 22:03

Boy have I been feeling pukey today. A week ago or so I was complaining of having no symptoms any more. Hope it is just beng preggo and not tihs horrid sickness bug that the Daily Mail has been scaremongering us all with.

Tyson I am having a private scan at the FMC as I was having a bit of a panic and also my MW peed me off when I asked about what if my dates are wrong then my scan will be too late and her response was "oh well, there are other tests we could possibly do". So I figured I'd rather pay for peace of mind.

So I am now 10+4 according to my LMP and my scan is on 8th April. Not sure I can wait that long, but I have no choice!!!

Congrats to all those that have had scans.

I having an itchy tum, get frequent headaches if I dont drink enough and today at work, it felt like my kidneys were aching, so hoping its from sitting down too long or not drinking enough.

This preggo lark makes me worry more than normal!!!

I am bursting out of my clothes and good job I have my scan soon as I am going to have to 'fess up before my lardy tum gives me up!

tiredfeet · 29/03/2010 23:07

[anger] just wrote a big long post and then accidentally closed the tab down! didn't say much exciting though - but good news that I've had a good day today so feeling a lot happier

congratulations vikks and mummywilliams on the scans!

really feeling for those whose scans aren't for a while, its such an agonising wait. But on the plus side I guess once you've had it, you'll be that bit closer to the finish line

good luck everyone having scans this week.

I've been enjoying telling friends etc over the past few days, they're all really excited for us, I think especially as its the first baby out of our close group of friends. But I'm a bit how many have said stuff like 'wow thats so grown up' and things, I didn't think that I was particularly young to be starting (29 soon). I guess feeling ready to start a family is such a personal thing though

AbFabT · 30/03/2010 00:12

MummyWilliams, glad your scan was good. Phew. Wow that you can feel your baby moving already. I don't think I can. I get the odd rumble but I think that's just me!

Vikks, great news for you too. Excellent. Ours waved - our scan photo captures the hand mid-wave. Did a little kick too. Bless. Little rascal was doing a headstand, which was why I needed the dildo-cam. Did make for a good view of baby though, so silver lining and all that! You got three different photos? I didn't know you could ask for more than one. Bother.

Ooh, floozie, a new kitchen - I'd love a new kitchen, we are in need! But have to do other things in the house first. We'll get there eventually.

Hermya, yeah! It feels nice being in Tri 2! You lot can't be far behind.

Silver, it is probably reading the Dail Mail that has made you feel sick! Hope you feel better soon.

tiredfeet, 29 is a good age! I don't think most of my friends were having babies at 29, but if I had met the right man back then, I'd have been happy to start. Then again, at 35, sometimes I think am I really ready!!!

Nymphadora · 30/03/2010 06:21

hermya it's a bit like the last chance holiday as we won't do NYC with a baby so would be at least 8 years before we go again & then dd1 will be heading for uni!

tiredfeet I don't think 29 is young , think it's quite a good age. Old enough to be stable young enough for the energy levels !

Hermya321 · 30/03/2010 07:41

Nymph I would love to do a last baby free holiday somewhere hot and nice, but as DH's job went a bit wrong we won't be able to afford to do it this year.

Tiredfeet My friends only 24 and she's on her fourth, I'm only 26 and this is my first. I think it's an individual thing as to when you're ready to start your family. For me and DH this was kinda the right time for us.

Abfab I'm about three and half weeks off of trimester two. I can't wait, I'm hoping I start to feel slightly more normal than of late.

I feel really off today, MS has come back with a vengence. I'm going to go into work and see how I go, then at least if I do come home I've made the effort to go in.

How is everyone else this morning?

DillyDora · 30/03/2010 10:20

Hi All,

Lovely to hear about good scans and good luck to all those with scans coming up.

Nymph mucho holiday envy. Hermya I'm in a similar position to you - no matter how much I crunch the numbers I just can't make it work. DH got made redundant last May... Still hoping for a minor miracle though - got 2 weeks booked out in July in the hopes that something will come up.

tiredfeet I agree with the others, don't worry about your age, if you're ready you're ready, I'm just a late starter

Have a good day all
xx

floozietoozie · 30/03/2010 11:26

Morning

spent half of last night awake thinking about the kitchen or half dreaming about it and feeling sick, then DS woke up at about 3.30ish and didn't go back to sleep for about two hours. As a result I'm cream crackered and in fact lying in bed as I type. Got to face Ikea again this afternoon, which I now associate with feeling hideously sick as I have every time we've gone there. It will be worth it though (fx!).

Nymph I'm very impressed you can contemplate a six hour flight at this stage. I'm debating whether I can face a one hour one to Scotland which isn't for a month just cos of how rough I feel. I got those bands yesterday and they were a waste of £8. Whinge whinge.

tiredfeet I'd love to be 10 years younger having this baby. Or five. Or even three. . I hadn't planned to have them this late but mother nature had other ideas. I was 32 when I started ttcing and had hoped to have two kids by the time I was 35, (and maybe three by 37) rather than just getting pg with my first.

abigailsparty · 30/03/2010 12:05

Morning,

Great to hear about everyone's scans are going well, good luck to those still waiting.

AbFabT Going back to the itchy boobs question - I have exactly the same problem! In fact I have very small red dry patches on my boobs which look incredibly attractive as you might imagine. They are driving me nuts, it's really bad in the office or a public place, I look like Les Dawson hitching up his enormous bosom to try and get a bit of relief . I do remember getting this with DD so slap on the moisturiser and it should ease off soon.

ILGH I know one of your chosen house hunting areas very well, not sure if I should divulge all here or not but willing to give you any info/ advice you might require!

shieldbug · 30/03/2010 12:17

floozie I know what you mean about wishing you were younger, but not having any choice. Due to not meeting the right bloke and circumstances, I didn't even ttc until I was 36. I feel guilty because of the extra risks, although at 36 reckon they should still be low enough. I don't want dc wishing he/she had a younger Mum though.

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 30/03/2010 12:18

Vikks and mummywilliams - congratualtions on fab scans!

tiredfeet I'm 29 too - its definately not too old! I feel I have actually seen some of the world and and teach my dc something - not too much resentment on missed opportunities! I think its a perfect time (but we are now in the minority!)

MW just come - very active little bump and a heart beat once bump stayed still long enough for them to have a listen!

Just a quick link to the funniest MN thread I've seen for a while to make you giggle today

sinister easter bonnet

abigailsparty · 30/03/2010 12:42

SeaShells That's hilarious , I have tears in my eyes, cannot wait to hear the outcome!

lilmissmummy · 30/03/2010 12:47

OMG That is the best bonnet I have ever seen!!!!

I was 21 when I had my 1st dc and that was way too young!!! I dont know how these girls manage at 15/16!!! I am now 30 expecting no.3 and feel like i am at a good age as my friends have started having children and I have people to share pregnancy with!

v jealous of those of you who have had good scans and heard heartbeats! Very pleased for you too!

I have a doctors appointment this afternoon as I am still not feeling any better, been sick 7 times already today and felt sick the rest of the time. Also been getting dizzy with aching legs and arms. I am a bit worried especially as dh is working in London today and I have to go on my own.

I am sure it will be fine.

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 30/03/2010 12:56

lilmiss can a friend go with you? defo book yourself a taxi and don't think about driving - really hope you are just run down, but its best to get it checked out. Thinking of you - glad the link made you laugh x

shieldbug · 30/03/2010 13:10

lilmissmummy hope everything is ok. Thinking of you. As seashells says, get someone to drive you and to give you some support. Even though everything is probably fine, it's still nicer to have someone else there.Good luck.

Well done to all with scans of active babies. It's so exciting to hear good news and helps me feel more optimistic about how mine is (are?) doing. I've remembered that nobody has got twins yet, and as more and more are confirmed as singles, those of us awaiting scans have got the stats on our side (depending on whether we want twins or not!).

tiredfeet · 30/03/2010 13:12

that easter bonnet thread is hilarious

Thanks ladies for the reassurance re age I totally didn't mean to make anyone feel bad for starting sooner / later. I think thats why I was surprised really that some friends felt they could comment on timing / age.

lilmissmummy hopefully the doctor will be able to help. Its miserable when you're like that. All the GPs etc I have spoken to during my morning sickness have been extremely understanding, so I am sure you will be well looked after.

floozie I'm very impressed you're going to make it to ikea whilst feeling so poorly. Hopefully midweek it won't be too horrendously busy.

lilmissmummy · 30/03/2010 13:13

I'm just going to book a taxi, my children will be with a friend nearby so she is on hand for tea afterwards it will be okay - just feeling a bit delicate! Thanks SeaShells x

tinywelsh · 30/03/2010 13:41

I have just had to send a link to the easter bonnet thread and I'm PMSL at my desk spraying tea and crisps (classy lass here)

Fingers crossed all goes well lilmissmummy

This may be one for the AIBU topic but I'm so angry with my MD. This is the lady who already told half the office I'm pg after I said I was waiting til after my scan. I went into her office to discuss finance, all very serious and she put her hands on my (very small) bump and shouted to one of my colleuges 'It's showing now isn't it?' Well not impressed, if she wasn't my boss, and a frail old lady, I would have punched her! I don't like being touched by strangers at the best of times but I felt slightly violated!

Ivytheterrible · 30/03/2010 14:06

Love reading about everyones happy scan news... desperate for mine now - it should have been today but delayed it as husband away with work - I'm on the 7th as well as lots of you.

2 days until I join team tri 2!

Have been looking at budgeting for baby set up costs... need advice from some experienced mothers. Are any of the following things generally frowned upon?

Buying cat beds and play toys instead of baby ones? (Cat bed at £10 compared with baby nest at £50+)

Baby sleeping in a drawer (left open) in our bedroom in early days instead of a moses basket thing?

Having a £2 holdall from primark as a nappy bag instead of a £100 one from John Lewis?

Bathing baby in bowl kitchen sink instead of in ickle plastic bath thing?

Or will my baby grow up traumatised?

Xavielli · 30/03/2010 14:37

Hehe Ivy! It is expensive and never gets any cheaper!

Cat bed: You will be far, far to precious about your baby to put it in one! You won't need to worry about anything like this until the baby is about 3 months anyway because more than likely it will be permenantly attatched to you. Or else being passed around every exsisting relitive/friend/neighbour.

Drawer bed: My mum did this with all of us until we were cot ready.

Holdall: Better idea than a nappy bag. I always bought a big £3 canvas bag from the market and used that.

Baby bath: Proper ones are a complete waste of money. I mostly had my ex hand me the baby when I was in my bath gave them a quick wash then passed them back to him to dress. Or if he was at work the kitchen sink was much easier!

I have my dating scan on Thursday. The midwife I saw thinks I'm probably going to have a November baby, so we'll see. I hope you guys don't mind me hanging around if that is the case.

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 30/03/2010 14:37

Not sure re baby nest thing, but I'd say no to cat toys - ds got his finger trapped in one of my cat's ball toys - v sharp plastic and v little finger = lots of tears!

RE drawer - on floor, can't really see why not, we borrowed a moses basket and bought a new mattress.

Bags - what ever you fancy. it needs pockets and a big central section, thats all really.

ds was bathed on a sink, then in the bath with me and survived! ice cream tubs for top/tailing and cotton wool etc

NCT second hand sales are fab - if you get there early you can pick up pushchairs/cots etc for a fraction of the price on ebay etc.

ummm...they need most things for such short time we used to just borrow things from friends and return after 3-4months eg baby gyms - as soon as they roll or crawl ds was off out of his!

hth! Sure someone will come along with more info
