A new thread for the gabbers.

Hopefully we will find out during the course of this thread whether dear cheggers has laid a baybee or two yet!

Sorry about the preachiness y'all . It's not intended quite as much as it comes across (and understand your desire to eat a KitKat iggs after reading my stuff!!). It's a problem that I feel SO passionately about this stuff and it's really hard to hear people doing stuff which worries me, and I kind of feel that if I don't say it, maybe they don't know, and maybe if they did they'd not choose that option...

BUT I am absolutely not trying to preach people into changing their minds. It's all personal choice. I mean, take ski's opinion re child labour. Actually I don't necessarily disagree per se. In many places it's really important for children to be able to work because their families need the income to survive. But typically this is only because the adults are been paid (or earning) less than they need to survive because we want cheap stuff, so, by using the holistic approach of, say, the Fairtrade Foundation which ensures that the adults get enough for the whole family AND the kids get schooling, health etc, it takes away the need for them to work.

That said, this isn't a forum for me to tell you all how to grow your own compostable knickers and please feel free to tell me to f-off if I get too irritating. iggy you said what you said very sweetly and I totally take your point and apologise.

But I DID mean the Primark stuff to cokie in a non-aggressive, tongue in cheek way although when re-reading it I was rather to find it was preachy. I'm so sorry , that wasn't what I intended.

carrotsarenottheonlyvegetable · 30/03/2010 16:16

OK to change the subject, has anyone actually read the full budget report?

I mean, call me an Evil Tory but FUCK ME it's pretty bloody heavy.

carrotsarenottheonlyvegetable · 30/03/2010 16:16

It's even driven me to bad language

iggypiggy · 30/03/2010 16:27

rots glad you realise I didn't mean it in bad way - wasn't any need to apologise tho

I don't much care for kitkats...

skihorse · 30/03/2010 16:35

"birthwear"? Jesus wept! I once phoned up a company advertising "afterwear" and asked them "after what?".

pandora She does tits & housework. For 8 days she's at my beck and call, I haz a list incl. shed & car! Seriously, she does housework, cooking, shopping etc. so you and dad can bond with baybee.

carrots I do see some of your points wrt organic. But seriously, 25 quid a t-shirt or 3? It's just maths to me. I can't afford to be an eco-hippy and I think a lot of it is "more money than sense". E.g., take your Toyota Prius which causes more environmental damage (CO2 output) to build, than to keep my antique on the road... It's all very smoke & mirrors.

carrots I haz not read full tory budget report as I was too busy fox-hunting and laughing at poor people. c.f., my earlier boasts about 3 quid t-shirts. I do however like the Tory budget & fund-raising idea found here: www.thedailymash.co.uk/politics/politics-headlines/tory-tax-cut-funded-by-low-income-child-auction-2 01003292597/

OP posts:
skihorse · 30/03/2010 16:38

Obv. when I say "take your Prius", I don't mean carrot's Prius. Every man and his dog knows she's got a gas-guzzling 4X4. For fox-hunting & Tory-canvassing duties.

Who would have thought pants could cause so much discussion. Certainly no need to apologise rots I am all for people having views and opinions and am open to having my views changed too. However, I do buy British, I do recycle as much as I can (I used to get through a lot of wine bottles!) and I don't buy cheap (other than post birth pants ovbiously) but I franky don't have the space in my London postage stamp of a garden for a compost heap.

Right, I have managed to stay in bed pretty much all day which was the aim of taking a sneaky day off for the purposes of rest. I think I may get up now and go and pick the little one up from nursery early.

CurlyCasperReturns · 30/03/2010 16:59

I might not be a campaigner, but please see this thread about a highly racist FB page

Sick people - many of them writing in yoof slang which, if I am not mistaken, orginated among black communities.

CUNextTuesday · 30/03/2010 17:10

I altered my list and then nobody took any notice and still put me with ?? for my EDD. Well I'm not going to tell you now, you can all just GUESS.

I have pants that are older than Hom's bin lids, no word of a lie. Old pants are good.

I have a long t shirt for the wearing over bikinis on hols, which I thought would be ideal for birthing in. However I put it on yesterday to fin it actually omes down to the top of my undercrackers and therefore will not be Preserving Any Modesty whilst activiely labouring in hospital corridors.

Alrighty in diffed up land?

Today I had my appraisal. Went really really well, though I felt guilty as sin throughout when BossMan was going on about activities for next year and I kept thinking "oh shit, how am I supposed to tell you I is diffed, oh and the fact that I have only been here for a few mths and I KNOW you'll take it well"

I don't shitting think so!

Had a chat with Husband (all 6ft 2" of him, tho I tease him no end that he is really 5ft 7" and a dreamer) about my appraisal and I am worried about "fessing up and he started talking about maternity leave and I thought I heard him tell me that I would only be taking 3-6mths off work. Let me tell you the showdown I had with him!!! Probably not best that I was in the middle of the supermarket with Husband on the other end of the phone.

I informed him that in that case getting preggo was completely irresponsible and not what I had in mind. Ok so money is an issue but in that case I would rather have waited til next year and does he know the cost of child care!!! I was fuming so much smoke was coming out of my ears and my arse!

Needless to say he called me back about 30mins later and said that was not what he was telling me and that of course I could do what I liked. Damn right. Moral of the story - don't mess with a BESH!

SilverSky · 30/03/2010 19:49

Or should I say - don't mess with a PESH!!! Especially one with severe wind.....

OkieCokie · 30/03/2010 21:05

Oh silver you have to take at least 9 months, and the whole year if you can as it is such an important time. Our menfolk are so used to us earning a crust and relying on our salaries too that the thought of them being the only breadwinner (even if it is often only temporarily) I think scares them a bit.

OkieCokie · 30/03/2010 21:10

Oh and BTW there is reference to our "list" in BESH Palace. Maybe we are going to get the piss ripped out of us afterall....

Cosmosis · 30/03/2010 21:10

i think you s hould go with that approach silvers

So i haz book restaurant today for when Pops and the WSM come to stay at the weekend. Except I will have to call them back tomorrow as I can't remember what day I booked it for.

Anyone elses memory gone to shit?

Can't believe I'm half way through on Sunday.

SilverSky · 30/03/2010 21:15

OkieDokie I fink he realises his mistake and he said that obviously he understands I want to spend as much time with the baybee.

In an ideal world, I'd prefer not to go back to work but we ain't mill-yon-hairs so I will have to go back to the rat race at some point, hopefully part time, but who knows.

I reckon he is just shitting himself at having to carry the can. I just got so pissed off cos I kept saying to him, lets wait til next year when hopefully we'll be a bit better off, but I let my bodyclock rule my head and now we are having horrible money talks and I hate it. Bad enough I still feel sick and generally crap without all this miserable shite to go with it.

Hope that nobody from work heard me kicking off in the middle of the supermarket today.

I have had my dinner (probably a mistake to have a whole can of beans with my veggie cottage pie but I am feeling rebellious) and now I am wondering whether its greedy to now be thinking about having some soup?! I didn't have pudding.......

SilverSky · 30/03/2010 21:18

Cos my memory is beyond repair!

I nearly put my lunch in the dishwasher at work instead of the fridge.

I feel like a complete and utter blonde knobhead.

OOh what does the BESH palace say about us?

What's new fred title as we are getting close!!!

CUNextTuesday · 30/03/2010 21:33

I feel your pain sylvia. I have to go back to work cos of massive mortgage and I earn twice as much as Hom - luckily the package is generous, but it would still be earlier than i would choose in an ideal world.

On the other hand Hom has started making semi-serious noises about giving up work to do the childcare for a year/18 months after I go back. It would still cost us, even with saving childcare fees taken into account, and i have my reservations about his style of parenting compared to how I would do it, but there's no denying that it would be great for him and Rastus... we'll see what comes of that idea when we get nearer the time!

SilverSky · 30/03/2010 21:39

TuesdayWednesdayThursdayFridaySaturdaySundayMondayHAPPYDAYS

I think Husband would make a good mother. I have no concerns about the practical side of things.

Last night tho, he cracked me up. Announced that our kids will not behaving a computer in their bedrooms. As it makes them unsociable and he does not want them up at all hours playing games. Heaven knows what he has been watching or reading!

Also last night, Husband advised that I should drink less in the evening cos then I won't have to pee in the night. Then he informed me that the baby is now the size of my thumb. Me thinks the manthing has been doing some swotting up! He's an antenatal GEEK!!!

Muser · 30/03/2010 21:42

I spoke of the list! It was me! I am SPARTACUS!

Heh heh heh. I was most amooosed when I saw it. But in a friendly way of course. It could do with more references to gin.

And how come youse are all mostly due in July? What happened in, ummm, lemme count back, November?

Cosmosis · 30/03/2010 21:44

muser, iggs and casp met, and the planets imploded.

I'll take your thumb size and raise you bigger than the length of a ruler Oh the sheer JOY of having all your abdominal organs in your ribcage!!

Good that you have no qualms about male mothering. Hom is quite...um... unrecontructed and quite...er... sweary and naughty and I know Rastus will be taught Things That Mummy Won't Like.
