Anyone, anyone? It's early days I know...

OP posts:

Gaga why don't you pretend you have had food poisoning the day before, that way if you need to nip off for a nap/early night/can't eat or drink no one will bat an eyelid. REALLY feel for you! I am cancelling everything going these days, just can't be arsed to leave the house after 7pm!

I'll be having no.2 at Salisbury District Hospital - they were lovely last time as I was there for 5 days while they tried to induce me. DS was finally born at 42+3 by cs.
Am hoping to try for a VBAC this time (wish that didn't stand for vaginal birth after caesar - sounds so gynocological!)

MS much better today - had a pretty good night's sleep.

Any other Wiltshire lasses?

bunnygirl80 · 19/03/2010 22:08

floweryogi I haven't bumped my car yet, but I do keep leaving it in first when I park ,take my foot off the clutch, and then wonder why the hell it's lurching forwards

Gaga At the moment I can't imagine what being up past 10:30 is like any more. I really feel for you. I'd agree with honeymoo's suggestion of saying you've had food poisoning - it'll cover up sleepiness, not wanting to eat, and any potential for sickness you do get.

pyjamalover I don't envy you having to do nightshifts in A&E. I remember smelly A&E patients well - and I never had to put up with them with pregnancy related super-smelling powers. The smell of stale booze on people still reminds me of those happy days

I will be looking out for those of you going to PAH on series 2 of OBEM! If you could ask the mw's to refer to you by your MN names rather than your RL names it'll make identification much easier

LadyBee · 19/03/2010 22:22

hello new people! We'll have to update the list but I'm not going to do it tonight, don't have the brain power.
I actually feel better tonight than I have for a while (am doing best not to read bad things into this and just counting blessings). Having said that, my glands are up and I feel a bit coldish, just in time for the weekend - bah!
I think it helped that I was snacking on crackers from the moment I stepped in the door until the time dinner arrived.
I've asked DH to take DS out at some stage this weekend so I can lounge about and not feel bad about spending several hours parked on the sofa in front of the tv.
I'm in south east London - most likely Queen Elizabeth as it's closest to me and lets me feel more confident about labouring at home for longer knowing the trip to hospital won't take forever when the time comes.

Loooopy · 19/03/2010 23:30

hello everyone - another newbie to the site here! I got BFP 8th March but only just discovered this brilliant site and have enjoyed reading the postings!

I'm 33, according to the wheel my EDD is 11/11/10 but i know we conceived on Valentines Day, so i expect it'll be a late baby unless they amend the date when we get a scan?

I'm in Cambridgeshire, and not a clue what type of birth i want, no idea what the hospital here is like, not given anything any real thought yet....we got pregnant in the first month i was off the pill and we thought we'd be trying for a lot longer so we're in a happy state of shock at the moment!

Having major cramps, well to me they are major, i've never had period pains so i have nothing to compare them against! finding that a hot water bottle eases it. Have exploding boobs like many of you here, already had to buy a new bra and really struggling with my jeans - can just about do them up. But no MS as yet thankfully! Convinced that when my family next see me they will know i'm expecting, even though DP wants to keep it quiet until after scan if possible! Dreading telling his folks though, his mother has made it abundantly clear lately that he is not to have a child out of wedlock and that it's good to have a couple of years as a married couple before having a family. But she was lucky, she met her hubby at about 21 but our situation is different, and we can't afford a flash wedding that they would approve of, and feel having a baby is right for us, we aren't getting any younger, i want a large family and i will be 34 when bump is born (god-willing) and the risks rise 35+ so time isn't on our side, so just hoping she comes round to the idea....

anyone else dealing with mixed feelings of utter excitement combined with dread of telling people....akin to announcing "we've had sex and we're not married"

Also worrying about telling work as i've not been there long, i'm now self-employed, but work for just the one company (its illegal to work for more than 1 company in this industry) and so not sure where i stand if they say they don't want me associated with them now?? As they don't technically employ me, not sure if i have any rights?

Glad i found this site - nice to be able to vent some of the things that are going round in my head, and to see that how i am feeling is normal - permanently exhausted, waking in the middle of the night, going from hot to cold, and weeing all the time and feeling windy and bloated - i thought all this would happen much later in pregnancy - shows what i know!!!

stuffedmk · 20/03/2010 00:00

Tried to make appt at GP to get myself on the system but he has no bookable appts for about 3 weeks so I will be ringing 1st thing every morning until I get to see him
Have been on the loo all day today...the result of being thirsty and drinking pints of water lol
Did my other digi test today and even after a pint of water mid afternoon it was showing the 2-3 instead of the 1-2 so the hormones are def rising, which I take comfort in.
very crampy today (not as bad as last time though), I guess it is 9 years since last pregnancy, and I am fitter these days than before DS so my body will have to do a lot of the stretching again.
Trying to focus on other things like sorting the garden out etc to stop myself over thinking every twinge, which I know are perfectly normal
Wow I am up late...must go to bed now lol

Katey1010 · 20/03/2010 00:58

Another new person. First pregnancy and I have been given the due date of mid November. Guess when my birthday is... Mid November. At least it's not Christmas. I was going to hold off joining this thread until 12 weeks but I don't suppose cyberspace counts as telling people!!! Has anyone told anyone except Dad yet?

Librashavinganotherbiscuit · 20/03/2010 07:26

I am in awe of you late night posters, my light goes out at 8:30pm! Welcomes to all the newcomers

I am feeling a bit as tonight my best friends in London are gathering for an evening of good and gossip and I have had to cancel because I know I will be face down in the food by 8pm. We so rarely get together these days (I am not in London anymore) and had arranged my DM to have Jnr 1.0 (luckily she is still having him overnight after the week from hell for me).

rollerbaby · 20/03/2010 08:45

Welcome Loooopy congrats to you and how perfectly romantic to have conceived a valentine's day baybee. I think we had a good row on V.D. actually. Well your 'MIL' isn't going to be able to do much about her perfect wedding now is she, so you may as well tell them when you're ready to. Now I've had an 8 week scan feeling bit happier about telling people but Mr Moo doesn't want me to just in case... God 12 weeks is a long time!

|Stuffed I also kept buying using the clearblue digis to check hormones rising( this is before I really started to feel sick) and apparently you can't do this beyond 6 weeks so do beware of that. Once you start wanting to vom you won't be worrying about lack of hormones.

Kate I've told too many people I prob shouldn't have but oh well, it is most exciting news I've had since well, ever.

Libra I'm so with you. I didn't release the not going out stopped quite this early. I literally can't be f**ked.

OP posts:
Ebb · 20/03/2010 09:24

Loooopy I could have written your post re. Weddings and babies out of marraige when dp and I got pregnant with ds. My parents are very religious and are very anti children out of wedlock. However they took it pretty well considering. It was our choice, ds was planned and, like you, I was 34 when ds arrived. I'll be 36, if all goes to plan, when this one arrives. You can't put your life on hold for other people. Fertility is the one thing you have no control over.

I used to work in Cambridgeshire. My boss had her babies at The Rosie maternity unit in Cambridge. I think it was ok. She never stayed in long though.

I've only told one person apart from dp in rl. Maybe because of my mc, I just don't expect this one to last.

Congratulations to all the new bfp's. X

hmmSleep · 20/03/2010 09:27

Morning, and welcome all newcomers!

Loooopy your mil is very old fashioned isn't she, don't think anyone else will bat an eyelid. I wasn't married when I got pregnant with dd and it never entered my head that people would find it controversial. I doubt anyone thought I was still a virgin at the age of 30, especially as I'd been living with my now dh for 3 yrs by the time we conceived. Do you live with your oh? Does your mil think you have separate bedrooms . Sure she'll just be delighted at the prospect of a beautiful grandchild.

Katey like honeymoo I have told loads of people, said I wasn't going to after mc last time but can't seem to help myself, so far have told parents, in laws, sister, granny, and 5 friends!

PrivetDancer · 20/03/2010 10:02

stuffed I'm the same with trying to see the doctor. It's ridiculous! You have to be on the phone at 8am to get an appt. I had filled in the form for midwife and thought that would do, but my friend who is due the same time went to see doc first and has got a dating scan date for when she's about 9 weeks but hasn't heard from midwife yet, so I guess that's the way you have to play it. Still at least it will save me paying for a scan at 8 weeks like I was planning to if I get one at 9!

Have had my 18mo dd jumping on me this morning and now tummy feeling rather delicate! This poor brother or sister is getting a taste of what it's in for!

ladybee excellent idea about getting some time to yourself, might try that myself.

cluelessnchaos · 20/03/2010 10:22

The first person I told after dh was my boss who also happens to be my best friend, next my line manager, my job is quite physical and he is like a brother to me, i have told 3 other friends and that is it, we are planning telling the kids when dh gets onshore and then we are down at his parents in a couple of weeks, we have never waited til 12 weeks, partly because it is so obvious I look preg by 8 weeks.

happy75 · 20/03/2010 10:43

Morning All!

Thank god for weekends is all I have to say - I've been so tired that I am pretty much useless, feels like it's all I can do to prevent my world from falling apart during the week.

I am having a few issues about telling work too (I have the same problem Loopy) - I am self employed too, my current contract finishes in 4 weeks so I'm not worried about making it through this one, but my next job starts straight off the back - it would involve a large amount of travel (long and short haul - not sure yet if it's would be to malarial countries) - both doctor and MW think I should be fine, but I'm a little worried that I will effectively have to lie about the pregnancy or loose the job - hmmmmm???? But then again I really need the money. If I make it that far I will be precisely 12 weeks before the first trip.

Any thoughts?

I'm South East London so will be at Kings College - saw the midwife who told me I will be due 15th November. I was effectively sent away and told to some back for a scan if I haven't had a MC by 12 weeks. Bit nervous - is there anything I can do in the mean time to make sure everything is still on track - I'm considering buying a job load of digital pregnancy tests so I can make sure my HCG levels keep moving up - am I crazy?

Happy weekend everyone! xx

addictedtothefirsttrimester · 20/03/2010 11:35

hmmsleep that seprate bedrooms thing is halarious. my dad is convinced that me and dh have seprate bedrooms and very strongly believes i'm the virgin mary. he refuses to let anyone else tell him other wize. when wee moved house and he helped he refused to have anything to do with the moving of the bedroom. mum and i were just cracking up laughing!

my parents and brothers and sisters know and dh's parents know but not his sister (long story) and a couple of friends know but thats all. i'm quite scared my brother is going to blurt it out tho, he's only 2 and understands that babies have to live in tummys for a long time before they come to live in the house!

addictedtothefirsttrimester · 20/03/2010 11:38

listening to aqll you talk about your doc's and mw's i feel quite privilidged to have mine!

my mw is alwyas on the end of the phone if i want to talk and my doc phones me back within the hour if i phone for a telephone appointmet, no matter what time of day i phone and making an appointment to see the doc is really easy, they say is it an emergancy, if not i get an appointment the next day if it is i get an appointment the same day.

but then theings were very diffrent in my last area!

Fenouille · 20/03/2010 14:39

Hello everyone, I reckon I must be due around mid-November (so 6-7 weeks now) but I'm off to the doctor on Monday so I'll hopefully know more then.

It's my first and we conceived much quicker then I thought I would so I'm feeling very unprepared.

It's nice to be able to talk to some other girls in the some situation as I don't feel like telling anyone just yet "just in case".

LadyBee · 20/03/2010 15:02

Right - CardiCorgi, 4madboys, pyjamalover, Loooopy, Katey1010 and Fenouille, welcome!! I've added you onto our incredibly long list with as much information as I could deduce from your posts. Please check the info and fill in any gaps or errors - you just copy and paste into the message box to make changes.

4madboys - I hope you do get the 28th, it's an excellent day to be born, all the best people were

Katey1010 · 20/03/2010 15:24

Thanks Ladybee, you must be v. organised in RL! I am 37 (argghhh, never felt so old) and my due date is the 17th November.

Currently eating a chocolate bunny for breakfast. Let's hope the vitamins work!

PrivetDancer · 20/03/2010 15:30

Ha, yes I have an ocado delivery coming later, I tend to add to it all week from my phone when I think of things I fancy eating... You can definitely tell my sweet tooth is coming back, it's full of biscuits and yoghurts this week. A couple of weeks ago it was all wine and salad

Well I have just had a 2 and a half hour nap. And as soon as I woke up launched into dh for eating all of the lunch I was planning to eat (he had no idea of my plans of course). I could have cried! The greedy pig. Aibu to make him apologise?!

happy75 · 20/03/2010 15:31

privet I think you should send dh out immediately to replace said food, as I keep reminding my dh, it is his fault I'm feeling like this , he's just been out to get me a McDonald's .

addictedtothefirsttrimester · 20/03/2010 15:50

my dh is telling me its his fault i'm feeling like this! he keeps appologising(sp?) and when i say what for he says making you pregnant!

LadyBee · 20/03/2010 16:13

"Thanks Ladybee, you must be v. organised in RL! "

Ha! Sadly, my job requires enormous amounts of organisation and it takes all my will to stay on top of it, so my homelife is chaotic at best.

Ah bliss, I have the house to myself, I had a good long lie in this morning and the tv remote all to myself this afternoon. Am just wondering whether I should run up to the local co-op to get some snacks before nausea kicks in? Cheese seems to be the only thing I want today.
Last night I managed a Chinese delivery, but had to be very careful not to have too much on the plate.

So I think I'm about 6+4 today. How slowly those days tick by. I've been looking up when various screening things need to happen, you might find this website useful. I'm going to be abroad on a holiday around week 10-11, so will need to make sure I've got an appointment booked for a scan at the right time before I go.

We weren't married when we had DS, we'd been engaged for a while but buying a house and then falling pg got in the way. None of the parents or grandparents minded in the least, and it was lovely to have DS at our wedding last year. We had lots of babies and toddlers at the wedding and it was a noisy, joyful, relaxed family day, just brilliant.

So, pregnancy is always a changing state with good and bad points. Anyone care to share their 2 ups and 2 downs for the week? I'll start:

Downs:

  1. Nausea really started up and it took me a while to remember some strategies to deal with it.
  1. Constipation. Just in the last couple of days things have gone a bit sluggish. Might need to increase the fruit.

Ups:

  1. Even though the GP appointment was mostly a non-event, I'm pleased that I should be in 'the system' even if it's unlikely I'll actually see a midwife for several more weeks.
  1. Hmmm, I think it has to be my DH, who is quite frankly, a bit of a star and is currently pushing DS in his buggy somewhere in central London even though he hates shopping, and usually would rather stay at home on weekends, so that I can chill out at home without needing to play horsies or bricks or read stories to our boisterous nearly-two-year-old.
