harmonyb23 · 15/03/2010 15:46

Thanks for the support Loopymumsy and NBelle. I had an ectopic pregnancy last November so I get what you are saying Loopy. I just don't want to think that is a possibility this time round, it was so scary last time. At least I didn't have to have an operation last time. Just got to think positive I guess!

harmonyb23 · 15/03/2010 15:47

Thanks hmmSleep too. We must've been typing that at nearly the same time as your message didn't appear until I sent my last one!!!

clearBlueSavannah · 15/03/2010 15:50

nbelle know what you mean about keeping up with the thread!

good luck harmony - sure it will be fine
am yet to really feel any other symptoms other than twingey period pains which have me obsessively knicker-checking
And exhaustion.
I am already thinking about wardrobe too and love the new look bump-bands

I find summer a struggle wardrobe wise anyway so being preg will be even worse (had a winter baby last time)
Have booked self into docs so will see how that goes.

addictedtothefirsttrimester · 15/03/2010 16:21

good luck tomorrow harmony, i'm sure it will be fine.

i also have a scan tomorrow, i suddenly got scared the twinges i'm feeling are more than just twinges, so i phoned the doc and he booked me in for a scan first thing tomorrow. although i'm 80% sure i'm just being paranoid.

hmmsleep thanks for the link, i might go and have a look tomorrow

tanmu i'm starving all the time and clothes are too small already and twins run in my family...another reason i wanted that scan tomorrow, to find out how many i'm growing!

gingertoo, just ignore me i was having a down morning, feeling much better now sorry

gingertoo · 15/03/2010 17:03

Glad you're feeling better addicted

cluelessnchaos · 15/03/2010 17:21

3 dc off school sick today, its been lovely having them all at home I jsut dont want to send them back, I finally spoke to the midwife this morning who said she would do a telephone assesment next week ie 6 weeks and then appt at 10 to 12 weeks, I didnt have any of the others here so I dont know the set up, but it feels quite strange to not see a doc or midwife until 12 weeks.

addictedtothefirsttrimester · 15/03/2010 17:28

clueless, thats how it was in my last area, except i didnt get a telephone assesment. i think its stupid because the first 12 weeks is where you need all the support, help and advice. grr it makes me angry, its also one of the reasons we moved

addictedtothefirsttrimester · 15/03/2010 17:34

half that post missing, what i actually said was it makes me angry that all areas arent the same and when moving house it wwas one of the reasons we chose our house in the area we live in now, because of the nhs care.

ore something along thoes lines anyway!

Mibby · 15/03/2010 18:53

Got home to a nice letter with my booking in appointment. April 14

Threelittleducks · 15/03/2010 19:32

Things move very slowly here in my area. I don't expect to hear anything until just before 12 weeks.
Glad this is my 2nd or I would be as stressed and panicky about it all as I was last time. Still keeps me wondering and worrying though.....just not quite as much.

funbun · 15/03/2010 20:57

I rang MW on Friday but have to see Doc first ie. next week to confirm pregnancy and then get the booking appt but thats not until April 9th.

Last time doc's appt was very routine, can't remember them asking me to pee in a pot. Thought they might let me proceed to MW straight away but no such luck

cluelessnchaos · 15/03/2010 21:00

Saying that, i didn't find out I was pg with dd1 until I was 22 weeks so i missed all the crucial early weeks stuff

kawaiiko · 15/03/2010 21:04

Hello all, haven't been around for a while - had a friend to stay and I'm not 'out' yet so the title of the site would have given me away!

Been feeling sick as a pig and off everything (tho' haven't thrown up), surviving on beige food and feeling v guilty about the lack of nutrients for baby. Seriously, we roasted a chicken earlier, which usually has me drooling...but it smelled grim and I opted for dry crackers!

I'm concerned that I'm slipping through the net as far as early pg care is concerned. Got a letter for booking in with the midwife for April 23rd - when I will be 12+6 - surely that's far too late? Aren't I supposed to be having a scan then?! Might post this in pg too...

Anyway, hello to everyone who's joined since I was last around! Can't believe I'm 7+2 already

PrivetDancer · 15/03/2010 21:10

Yeah I had to see the doc last time, I said 'i'm pregnant', they said great, get booked in with the midwife. No test or stomach poking or anything! Was gutted! Then the receptionist gave me a look when I said that and started quizzing me on whether my boobs were sore because I said the doc hadn't actually checked anything. Will ring docs tomorrow and get it started.

God I don't remember being hungry like this last time though. I got in from work and started barging dh out of the way in desperation to cook the dinner. I think this baby is going to be trouble, in the nicest possible way!

LadyBee · 15/03/2010 21:13

addicted - I have the same reaction to 'One born', it just makes me feel more confident that I can get through it. Plus I'm actually pretty happy with the way I handled it up to 8cm. It was just the choices I made at 8cm that I don't think were the best ones and ultimately led to a c-section. This is what I've learnt from OBEM so far:

  1. It seems like women who have more than just one male partner with them get through it better. Last time I was all 'noone who wasn't present at conception is coming in' but now I know I don't really care who sees me.
  2. Although my DP was a bit crap when it came to verbal support or helping me 'breathe', at least he was kind, and helpful and not a complete twat.
  3. There are good midwifes out there. I was just unlucky.

happy75, I think fluctuating symptoms is normal. At least it seems to be normal for me, if that's any comfort. Oh, and try not to worry about your DH's reaction to your changing body. I think he'll probably just be amazed and in awe and love you all the more.

Loopymumsy we possibly could afford an IM but really I'm not set on a homebirth per se, I just want to make sure I get good continuous support and I suspect an experienced doula would provide that. I'll wait to see what happens when I meet consultants and midwives. If I can get access to a pool at the hospital that would probably be good enough but if they are inflexible I'll need to think again.

I've always wondered about getting surveyors in for waterbirths. My vague ideas do involve possibly getting a pool to labour in at home but I vaguely think I'd want it upstairs where in the room next to our bathroom. I suppose that would need checking out.

See, this is why I can't go back to sleep at 4:30 - too much buzzing around my head.

kawaiiko is your booking in appt at a hospital? call them and make them aware of the dates and ask them directly whether they will be able to arrange for your dating scan and nuchal translucency scan at the correct dates.

Hi Girls
Found out this afternoon I am pregnant and due 23rd Nov, I think, with baby number 2.
Do you need to go to the docs before contacting midwife? When I went to docs with DD1 the doc said congratulations, booked me in and sent me on my way!

happy75 · 15/03/2010 22:36

Ladybee - thank you!!!

Went to the doctor today - he seemed a little scared to be talking about pregnancy, so sent me straight off to book an appointment with a midwife. Seeing her on Thursday - looking forward to having someone to talk to about everything.

I'm such a terrible gossip - it's driving me crazy not being able to tell everyone!

Librashavinganotherbiscuit · 16/03/2010 07:01

Hello all, keep reading but not posting much. MS is being pretty bad coupled with exhaustion (despite going to bed at 8:30pm) and a cold adds up to feeling pretty sorry for myself, of course I am grateful this one seems to be staying with us. I am having the dilemma of feeling sick and not wanting to eat but knowing if I don't eat I will feel worse. Went to GP who asked if I was talking folic acid and then said the receptionist would put me in the midwive book, not sure why we need to go and see GPs surely it would save time and money just to go to booking in appointment with m/w at 8-10 weeks.

I love One Born Every Minute, and everynow and then I think ohh I could do that (I did get to 8cms pretty easily last time) and then think nope I will stick to my too posh to push ELCS thank you very much.

If anyone is terrified of giving birth (like me last time) then I can recommend a TERRIFIC hypnobirthing teacher in the surrey area (seriously worth spending your health in pregnancy grant on).

ladybee one of the reasons I want an ELCS is that I think the reason I found labour manageable last time is that I was able to move around, no CFM, no internal examinations and I know due to my hospital guidelines of VBAC they will insist on all of that this time and I don't have the strength to fight them on that however there is lots on this site to help you if you DO decide to go for VBAC and don't want to follow guidelines (i.e. who to talk to etc). good luck with it

kawaiiko second what Ladybee said - it's important that the scan is done BEFORE the end of 14 weeks.

addicted hope your scan goes well.

Hi everyone

May I join in. I've been lurking since I got my BFP on Friday, but now it feels a bit more real I'm ready to join in. I recognise a few of you from the November bus.

I have now peed on pretty much every brand of pg test I can get my hands on - did a test yesterday and the line was fainter than it had been on Friday. Cue much panic from me and running out to buy more tests. Tested again today and test line came up before I'd even finished peeing, and was loads darker than the control. I think the faint line yesterday was down to the litre of water I drank before testing.

I need to get a grip or this is going to be a long 9 months

I've added myself to the list, and reorganised it a bit as some people weren't in date order....sorry but I'm borderline obsessional about things being in order

Morning all

Just a quick post to say hello to everyone, welcome & congrats to the new BFPs too.

Harmony good luck with your scan later today.

Hmmsleep I love the look of those trousers you've posted a link too. I've a discount for The White Company, so might have to make use of it. What size is your size 8 - extra small? Just wondering what size to order in to also take into account any other 'blooming' we go through - I ballooned in my last pregnancy. They look like they'd last a while and not forgetting after baby is here.

Ladybee I can highly recommend VBAC. Most mws and consultants are very supportive of it all. There are some limitations such as the Monitoring, but if all is well you can ask for this to be intermittent rather than continuous. I had a fantastic mw with me for mine who supported everything I wanted, right down to vetoing the consultant who wanted to whisk me off for another c-section at the first sign of tiring.

Still not a huge amount of symptoms. I feel like I'm looking for them at the moment, so every little oddity I'm putting down to being pregnant. I am very tired after 2pm though which doesn't help being at work. DH is working late tonight too so I have to put both DDs to bed on my own, I think I'll be asleep before they are!

I think I might try to ring the GP and get the mw appt sorted today if I can find somewhere private to make the call.
