bouncing - I know, my mum said the same! When she was pregnant with me in 1980 she said you had to wait until you'd missed 2 periods before going to the docs and doing urine sample to see if you were pregnant and she had no scans at all....you only got a scan if they suspected something was seriously wrong

Am so glad I'm pregnant in 2010!!!!!!!

neenz · 23/02/2010 21:44

I think they worried a lot less back when there were no scans, they didn't know they were pg, they didn't know they'd had a mc most of the time (if they miscarried at 8 weeks they just thought they had missed one period, didn't even know they were pg). We know too much sometimes! They also drank and smoked .

My mum said when she was pg with me in 1977 in Australia they could do a test when you were 8wks pg, but previously it had been 12. She said it was very exciting to find out that early!

mrsZaC · 23/02/2010 22:17

owh thanks cazEM I loveed reading your message. I'm sure the next week will fly by, and then it will be even less time till my 20 wk scan

Just blubbed my eyes out at 'one born' totally welled up when the ladys baby wasn't breathing, and when the girl got to hold her baby for the first time after his intensive care - owh! Well done to the lady with the VBAC, she did a stellar job!

cherry glad your appointment went well

sounds like you had a great time vita sounds brill glad you managed to pick up some clothes, nothing like a tad of retail therapy!

I totally think we know too much these days, but then I suppose this all benefits the baby's health, but doesn't do much for our sanity!

soontobefatnat · 24/02/2010 07:53

I blubbed watching One Born too, several times! I love it!! But what is with these awful men? The VBAC lady's husband was SO mean and undermining, putting all of his insecurities onto his wife... While she was in labour. NICE!

CherryPie3 · 24/02/2010 08:11

Dammit I still forgot to watch it!!! Ok, tonight I will go home and I will set it to record. Why haven't I done that already? Pregnancy brain?

Nah - just slack

Good Morning btw

Just tried to tell my manager that I now have to attend ante-natal clinic weekly and she didn't want to know! Brilliant - think she's just annoyed that I'm now gonna be out of the office once a week instead of once every 8-ish weeks?

Sod her - don't care!

have a lovely day ladies xxx

Has anyone else seen this? Who's betting we miss out of it's approved?

Morning girls

Yip, I was crying my eyes out too last night at One born..

That couple with the baby in the neonatal unit were so brave - I really felt for them.

But what is it with all these women giving birth flat on their backs???? I made that mistake when I gave birth to ds - midwife wouldn't let me kneel like I wanted to. But this time, I going to get all the help I can get from gravity

Right, got to keep my head down at work today - so no mumsnet! Grumpy bosses at the moment and I don't want to make them any grumpier!

CherryPie3 · 24/02/2010 08:56

Good luck with the frumpy bosses today Blueberries. Must be a 'Wednesday' think - my boss is grumpy too!!

CherryPie3 · 24/02/2010 08:57

Whoops - didn't mean frumpy - very typing error!

jennycomelately · 24/02/2010 09:29

Urghh, sick of being sick at 14+ weeks, hope it ends soon, this is my body telling me never to contemplate pregnancy again, I'm sure.

hugs to Bigmutha

Has everyone booked in with a midwife by now? I haven't, been putting it off as I bet it's the same ghastly one at the GP surgery as last time I had a baby, after meeting her once I booked an independent mw instead! But the budget doesn't run to that this time, oh well, at least I probably won't still be living here when I actually give birth so I'll only have to see the woman a couple of times.

ElusiveMoose · 24/02/2010 09:34

Morning all. Wow you lot have been chatty recently. I've had loads of admin stuff to catch up with for the last couple of days, so haven't had a chance to post.

All well here, ish. Getting slightly paranoid because I haven't felt much movement in the last few days, whereas before I was getting quite a lot of fluttering. Plus DS managed to knee me in the stomach pretty hard the other day. No other signs that anything's wrong, though, so I'm sure it's fine.

BTW crazybabs, sounds like you're a bit of a rowing widow. I sympathise. I was a very keen rower at university and I know how all-consuming it can be . Is your DH a club rower??

Chulita · 24/02/2010 09:38

jenny, I didn't get over ms til 17wks, I've felt really good for about 6 days and then last night I started getting what feels like spd pains
elusive I haven't felt anything for ages, I think it's just the stage we're at. I'll be 19 wks tomorrow but it's not very wriggly at all. It depends where the placenta is too!

YummymummyKJulie · 24/02/2010 10:20

Bouncingblueberries OMG I am so with you on crying on this One born.... I was sitting with tissues under my duvet ....I felt sorry for that women with that rude husband!! he was shown on tv like absoulte MUG!

and girls its Wednesday so not long to the weekend YEAH! ;-) I ve a bit of a headache today so hoping to leave bit earlier...:-) if my BOSS wont be to grumpy about it :-) xx

CherryPie3 you are lucky ....ante-natal clinic weekly...and not in the office hell YEAh! cant wait when it will be turn for that...I need to start thinking of those...usually how many weeks we should be to book them?

Have a lovely day girlies...xx

jennycomelately · 24/02/2010 10:28

Oh Chulita 17 weeks? Noooo!! I've had a few twinges of SPD too, had it with baby #4 but not baby #5 so was hoping to avoid it this time, feel like my body's falling to pieces!

Chulita · 24/02/2010 11:09

I know the feeling

DH's car blew up last friday, he needs it to get to work and we live in a small fake village with nothing in it so DD and I like to have a car so we can do stuff. Anyway, we bought a car off Ebay on Sunday, insured it and went to tax it but I had to tax it starting Monday or we'd have lost a month but starting it today since there's only 4 days left of February. Is it just me or is that a ridiculous system? We only need 6 months cos we'll hopefully be moving in the summer so we'd have only got 5 months if the lady hadn't asked...it's got me annoyed because SureStart are closed this week with sickness bugs and DD and I have nothing to do. [cross because the world doesn't revolve around me emoticon]

Brownie anyone?

growingbump2 · 24/02/2010 11:19

Morning all!
Am so excited, woke up at 7.30 wonderingwhat all the noise was outside in our usually tranquill villageto discover lots of cars stuck outside unable to get up the hill because of the snow! Fingers crossed it keeps up till 4 so I don't have to go to work, my mum has to come 30 miles to babysit DS and there is no way she will drive in the snow!

Am jealous of the bumps, apart from HUGE boobs, I have no bump at all!

LCRLCR · 24/02/2010 11:34

Hello all! Still don't feel prego, when will it start....still can't complain, no MS whatsoever.

Ladies how much do you intend to buy for your new arrivals clothes-wise? We've already got about a dozen vests and sleep suits for 0-3 months and a few more cute outfits 3-6 months. Do I need to get newborn stuff? Should I stock up more? Asking as very tempted by cute clothes all the time in the shops but don't know if I should buy as little as possible as gifts and hand-me-downs will probably flood in? Or indulge and buy cute outfits....?

xx

Chulita · 24/02/2010 11:48

I'd only get very few newborn things, DD was in first size for about a week and she was 8lb5 so average sized. If you do have a tiny baby you can always ask visitors to pop into Sainsbury's and pick some up for you on their way in! TBH, she lived in sleepsuits for the first 3 months because DH hated dressing her and I was incapable of doing much by way of bending/standing etc for a long time! People will get you stuff as well that you'll feel duty-bound to dress them in. I'm going to find out the sex and if it's a boy I'll get a few things that are flowery

Chulita · 24/02/2010 11:48

or aren't even

Dibbydab · 24/02/2010 11:50

Morning girls, hope we're all doing well. Sorry for anyone having woes at the moment -

Has anyone looked at this website - in-gender.com (click on forums and blogs)? It's an American site, where they try and predict the sex of the baby just by looking at your scan photo - we're not finding out at the 20 week scan, but being the nosy bint that I am I posted my 12 week scan piccy and everyone who replied said "girl" - something to do with a nub and the angle of the dangle as it were - I really have no idea what they're looking at!

I had a "feeling" that I was carrying a girl from the minute I found out - we'll see in August

Alicetheinvisible · 24/02/2010 11:53

I am wondering if i might be getting SPD. I didn't have it last pg, but i am only 16wks and feel a grinding pain at the bottom of my spine, and i can't carry DD at all. Does that sound like it? Should i go to Dr about it, or just see my chiro?

marzipananimal · 24/02/2010 12:03

Hi guys, what's SPD?
growingbump about snow, I wish i didn't have to go to work today - no energy

YummymummyKJulie · 24/02/2010 12:14

Dibbydab I so wanna do that..did you buy the membership for this website or just logged in?

Chulita · 24/02/2010 12:30

Hmm...hot chocolate, perfect to dunk
alice I've been wondering the same only my pain feels like my pubic bone is going to snap. Last time I saw my GP about anything he didn't seem to care so not sure what to do about this.

Dibbydab · 24/02/2010 12:31

I just registered a user name and posted my scan piccy - simples.
