Quick book recommendation for you girls - I've just finished reading The New Experience of Childbirth by Sheila Kitzinger and found it really fab!

oh, and for everyone thinking about potty training my advice would be, wait until your child asks to use the toilet - makes life so much easier! So many of my friends tried for months to potty train their little ones and found it really painful. Whereas we waited until ds actually had the language skills to be able to say "need a wee wee mummy" and asked to use a potty and he was dry 95% of the time within about 2 days. So much less stressful than trying to put them on the potty every 20 minutes for a week So resist the peer pressure - most kids I've known have an easier time staying dry if they themselves choose to start wearing pants. HTH

neenz I'm the same as you WRT the Downs tests. I decided there was no point having the tests done as I wouldn't have an amnio whatever the results but now sometimes when I look at my scan pics I think 'oh no what if it doesn't look right but they're not telling me cos I said I didn't want to know'. I know I shouldn't worry really - I must be very low risk as I'm only 23 - but everything seems worrying when you're pregnant! I can't wait til August for all the suspense to be over! (and of course to have a gorgeous little baby )

CherryPie3 · 23/02/2010 11:44

Hey Ho

Luckily my 2 babes are in pants and at school so no potty training to do here just yet (and not looking forward to it with this one...)

BOOKS - I personally find MumsNet to be invaluable for info on the reality of childbirth as sometimes the books just point out the very good bits, or very bad bits. I read everything I could when pregnant with dd (can't remember any of them now) and only found the breastfeeding tips useful/interesting (although that went out the window when dd was 5 wks early).

I remember reading 'pregnancy and childbirth' (can't remember author) and it mainly talked about what to do if baby is stillborn, if your partner passes away, how to induce labour. Not much on much else. T'was quite frustrating - wish I'd had MN then I tell thee!

Just been given my wage-slip which was a pleasant surprise - I'd totally forgotten it was payday

Marzi I'm with you on the 'roll on August'. I'm so impatient and excited!!!

About downs testing - I decided to have it because although I would never have terminated the baby, I would have wanted to get myself totally prepared mentally. I would have had the CVS/Amnio too, fortunately I didn't need to

Hello ladies

Been mad busy lately, so not been on here much.

For books i really reccomend The Pregnancy Bible by Dr Anne Deans.
It has pictures of your baby week by week, a week by week guide to your body, food and exercise advice. It explains a lot about the screening tests, has a big section on labour and the birth, and has lists of stuff you need for a new baby, diagrams on how to change a nappy, bath a baby and dress one. I was constantly reading it with my first pg and think it helped a lot.

I am feeling much better now, but have a huge bump (once your muscles have gone, they've gone!) and still getting strong stretching pains. Have got the obs appointment next week.

Chulita · 23/02/2010 12:44

Oh alice, I so agree with you on the muscle thing...my bump's pretty big but very flabby and it's a real effort to hold it in. I think CS really ruin your abs for life
I've got the 'what to expect' book and the 'pregnancy bible' and they're both good for different things.
I'm feeling so positive and jolly at the mo, must be the 'glow' that I never got with DD but it's lovely. Even if it only lasts a couple of weeks I'm going to make the most of it!

YummymummyKJulie · 23/02/2010 13:52

Hi girls,

I just had the strangest feeling in my tummy...I can feel my baby started to move...but its feels sometimes like a stitch ?..or like something heavy inside me?so weird?.have any of you had any think like that? xx

mrsZaC · 23/02/2010 15:48

hey ladies,

Well finally had my booking in appointment this morning, good to get the ball rolling. Although I did get locked in the toilet, which was a tad embarrasing! I was booked in for a scan on Thursday but they had to change my scan till the following thursday @ the hospital as I need to see a specialist cuz my DH has a genetic disorder that they want to chat to us about and I am allergic to most local anesthetics because of a stupid hair dye alergy, not the best when your expecting! So another week and a bit till I see baby, I'll be 14.5 by then!

Least I'm in the system though.

How is everyone doing today? We've got our flat's for sale sign going up today, both excting and sad.

x

vix206 · 23/02/2010 16:33

Hey mrsZaC how annoying your scan has been pushed back I was 14+3 when I had my '12 week' scan and although I was annoyed that I had to wait it was definitely worth it!

mrsZaC · 23/02/2010 16:50

hey vix yeah it's a tad annoying but at least I'll be going into the hospital instead of the clinic, as my friend says it's much better there. Also baby will be bigger (hopefully) and DH will be home.. just another week of waiting I probably shouldn't be but I'm confident that everything will be ok

x

neenz · 23/02/2010 17:42

Yummymummy, all those stretching pains are normal I think, but speak to your MW if you are worried and she can reassure you. Could it be indigestion or something like that?

Mrszac, I am sure everything will be fine!

Marzipan, they have an obligation to tell you if anything is wrong - so don't worry! There is not much they can tell off a dating scan anyway I think.

My bump's big and flabby too!

CazEM · 23/02/2010 18:12

mrsZac - I had an extra scan last week at 15+2 (I had bleeding) and the difference from the "12 weeks scan" that I had at 11+2 was amazing. You could see the baby is so much more detail, so a scan 14+5 will probably be just as clear. I could see the hand spread out and baby moving around, bending arms/leg and holding head up and down really clearly. Amazing, I can't wait for my 20 week scan! and a little disapointed thats the last scan you have until the end!

yummymummy, I can't wait to feel baby move. Hoping only a few more weeks to wait!

CherryPie3 · 23/02/2010 18:48

Hey Ladies, consultant appointment was fine. Although there was much waiting and sitting around and they told me I have to see my mw weekly for a BP check cos it was up today twice!! Super!

They've also told me no chance of being on MLU for labour and delivery - not fussed as long baby comes out and is fine and healthy. So consultant unit it is - at least they still have a water pool Shame I can't book it tho - fingers crossed it's available on the day!!

MrsZaC - Good news about the appointment, not long for scan now even tho it's pushed back a teeny bit

BUMPS - nice round flabby bump here. Good job everyone knows I'm pregnant, it's very obvious now

xxxxxxxx

feels very odd that the last time you see your baby is at 20 weeks until it's born..

sooooooooooooo tired today dd2 woke at 430 am then up for the day at 530. Have been looking after another dc today too so am ultra knackered.

Really want to go to body balance tonight though

vix206 · 23/02/2010 19:16

Yes we thought there was a lot more detail on our scan than some of my friends who had theirs at 12 weeks. Could see the baby rubbing its eye and 'waving' at one point

cazzybabs · 23/02/2010 19:32

OMG - they have phoned up about my dating scan - panic panic panic - its on Friday. OK so my midwife found the heart beat...but I guess we will know it has the right number of linbs etc...whether it is still OK....panic panic panic

I can't believe I am alternating between being denial about being pregnant at all and then panicking about everything being OK....every twinge and I rush to the toilet to check for blood...I think I will be a silent neurotic type until I get to 48 weeks

CherryPie3 · 23/02/2010 19:45

CazzyBabs 48 weeks What you're feeling is normal, don't worry! How exciting

cazzybabs · 23/02/2010 19:47

cazzy, I hope you meet your LO before 48 weeks!!

bouncingblueberries · 23/02/2010 20:20

Remember speaking to my mum about scans and back when she was pregnant with me, they only did scans if they really, strongly suspected something was wrong or if they were certain you were having twins

In fact, when my mum was pregnant with twins, she didn't find out until she was about 30 weeks. She'd been sent for a scan due to repeated early labour and nearly fell off the bed when the sonographer said "there's one head and there's the other head". She honestly thought she was having a two headed baby until the sonographer saw the expression on her face and asked "has no-one noticed you're carrying twins then?".

oh, and you had to wait about 2 months to get a positive pregnancy test! Mum couldn't believe when I told her that you can get a positive AND know how many weeks along you are!

cazzybabs · 23/02/2010 20:21

i don't know i quite like being pregnant ... make you all jealous i have a yummy new born with you have big 2 month old babies...

Now Dh is saying - ohh I can't make your scan because its bumps week (rowing) - bloody men

vitapulchra · 23/02/2010 20:43

Good evening, lovely ladies--
My goodness you post a lot! I've been trying to catch up after this weekend and I'm impressed.

Bigmutha--I'm incredibly sorry for your loss. You've had such a difficult time and I don't know what to say except that I'm so sorry. Take care and best wishes for you in the future.

And to others of you, I owe a thank you for your shopping advice. I was able to buy some cheap shirts which I really like, and now that I know what size I wear I can do my future ordering online, if necessary. And our weekend in London was such a reliefwe had a lovely time seeing friends, sleeping loads and just being together. Thus it felt like quite a shock to come home to the DCs' upturned, welcoming faces and then spend most of the night up with DS2. Am so knackeredagain! Apart from feeling tired I still am enjoying a virtually symptomless pg, so can't complain. Hopefully DS2 will learn to sleep more at night, before LO is born!
