Oh chulita that is rubbish! What did she say to give you the wobbles? That's not very professional. I have a few friends who've managed VBAC very successfully. Can you get any reassurance from your midwife?

pamplem0usse · 11/03/2010 14:12

Grr busy day and posted a message earlier but doesn't seem to have appeared!

Cherry good luck with the scan, I'm looking forward to hearing ALL about it!

Vix hope you get lots of sleep soon.....

Chulita is there anyone else you can talk to about VBAC that might make you feel a bit more confident about the whole thing?
xx

Chulita · 11/03/2010 14:14

She just told me all the things I didn't want to hear - CFM, 2hrly vaginal exams, canula pre-fitted 'just in case', no labouring at home/in water/wandering around. Basically said I was to come in at the first twinge, lie on the bed and try and push a baby out but of course if I don't do it quick enough they'll do a section I'm so frustrated! A VBAC doesn't have to be all managed and monitored...ARGH!

Dibbydab · 11/03/2010 14:41

Chulita didn't the woman on OBEM have a VBAC successfully (the one with the husband with a Diploma in Management ) - I think this was a lot to do with her midwife, but she stayed at home for quite a while until MW decided it was time to go. What does your midwife say?

It does seem that some (most?) hospitals want you to deliver as quickly as possible and will use interventions if you're not meeting their protocols of how labour should be proceeding - bugger whether the baby is ready to make an appearance. Makes me want a home birth even more.

Aussieng · 11/03/2010 15:25

Chulita - that's rubbish. I do think Doctors are just inclined to intervene, meddle and see the risks everywhere. I was watching home birth diaries the other day and saw a woman having a home waterbirth after an emergency cs so to your consultant. Hope your MW is more supportive.

Looking forward to hearing from Cherry and Ishe about their appts.

Just been to Bravissimo. I know a couple of people on here were not impressed by they were lovely so now have two lovely new bras and a swim suit in a 34G! Now I know that must seem like a training bra to some of you ladies on here but I am seriously impressed with my increase (from 34c). Also I asked them what their policy was on underwired bras and the lady fitting me was very clear - absolutely fine if it is fitted properly and does not cut in and totally understandable that larger ladies would want the extra support. So two underwired bras I have.

I also bought some lovely maternity tops in H&M in aubergine, cerise and pale blue. They had much nicer stuff in there than in New Look which was all greys. navy and beige - depressing and drab! I also bought a lovely goldie coloured non-maternity dress in size 14 cos it was lovely. I know it was extravagent and being non-maternity (so no give) it will ony fit me for about a month but I fell in lurve....

Chulita · 11/03/2010 15:36

My MW did say to labour at home for as long as possible so hopefully we'll just stick with what she thinks and not worry about the cons. I suppose I was feeling all geared up for it and then she put a spanner in the works but I can fight it, just have to find some evidence to back it up in case they resist! I agree though, doctors want it easy for them, they don't think about the effects on you afterwards!
I can't wait for summer so i can actually get my legs out and feel the sunshine! Gonna be a sweaty summer for us ladies

neenz · 11/03/2010 15:41

I agree with Dibby, I think the consultant is being overcautious about VBAC. They can't force you to do anything so all that stuff about having to lie down is nonsense. They will have a protocol (you can ask to see it) but it can be modified. Ask to see a different consultant!

I am getting loads of kicks now all the time . Scan in three weeks when I'll be 20+6. DH doesn't want to find out the sex

Sex, well I keep thinking we should do it more, but it's probably around once a week at the mo. I found sex when heavily pg with the twins to be great! My 'What To Expect' book says in the fifth month (18-22wks) you should have 'heightened and more easily achieved orgasm' which is true if you have the energy . If not, just lie on your side and let him do you from behind - you don't need any energy for that! .

The pram I 'missed' on ebay - I got it in the end! I emailed the seller and said if the sale fell through I'd like to buy the pram and she said when can you pick it up . I got it for £360 (£550 new), so very pleased, it is a monstrosity though! It's a twin pram with a toddler seat on the front. But at least it will fit all the kids in.

Alicetheinvisible · 11/03/2010 15:44

chulita i basically got told the same sort of thing, but in a more positive way.

Yes i want to be monitored for mine and baby's sake, but if i am strapped to a bed i am more likely to need another emcs. I shall do as i please, they cannot make you stay strapped to the bed. You know your body and how you feel, you will need to rest at times so monitoring when you are resting would be a good compromise. I am determined to rest lots during early labour, as i didn't last time and think i tired myself out way too soon.

bouncingblueberries · 11/03/2010 16:01

aussie I made it up to Bravissimo at lunchtime too

Had a good rant about how rubbish John Lewis were and came away with a lovely comfy underwired bra

kcoffin27 · 11/03/2010 16:29

chulita sorry about your experience with the consultant today. With my youngest son the hospital (which is the one on one born every minute) were very keen to push for vbac, when I wanted to opt for a section, had an have an argument during labour to get a section after days of being in labour.

This time im hoping to be booked in for a section.
I also enjoyed a crunchie today

Hope you had a good scan with lots of movement today cherry, im counting down the days for minw now, 11 days to go.

CherryPie3 · 11/03/2010 16:50

Hey ladies

Had a lovely scan, was very long tho. Went in early at 1:20, should have been 1:30. By 1:45 she sent me for a walk around the hospital carpark and also drink a coke as baby was asleep. Again. Despite me drinking coke/orange juice and eating a curly wurly on the way there. Lazy little cherrybaby , but s/he's gorgeous (obviously ) and I have a lovely pic which I will try (again) to get dh to put onto laptop so you can see it.

And we didn't cave to find out the sex so still very much team yellow - although dh spent the entire hour and ten minutes in the scan looking for a todger . But he admitted he didn't even know which bit of baby we were looking at

Anyway....

Chulita at your consultant. Why do they do that? They don't listen to anything you have to say, don't take on board your wishes or anything. I would discuss this with your mw and ask her to look into it for you - this is what I did with as my consultant is a pita as well. Stupid and stuck up in my honest opinion. So mw now looking into water birth for me.

Ishe How did your appointment go?

Neenz Woo for the pram How lucky was that!!! from your post I gather you're in 2 minds whether to find out the sex of baby?

Aussie You've just reminded me that I've been wanting to go to H&M for a couple of weeks now - gonna have to be at weekend I think. I wanna have a good look at their baby stuff and maternity stuff

YummyMummy and Chulita Pregnancy is not the time to be concerned about your weight - growing a baby does definitely give you a healthy appetite at times tho

Peanut and banana cheesecakes sounds fantastic Joey, save me a piece?

Cherrie great news about the scan, put a picture up please!

Your shopping stories have inspired me and I got a dress and top from here. Their non-sale items are too pricey for me, so I'll keep an eye out in case a gorgeous white shirt they have finds itself to the 70% off bin.

soontobefatnat · 11/03/2010 18:04

Congrats on the scan cherrypie! Did the walk/Coke get your LO jumping about in the end?

pamplem0usse · 11/03/2010 18:36

Yay Cherrypie, I'm so close to thinking I'll cave, but I'm hoping not to (but will probably still be looking for a willy!!!).....
Cake mmmm I had this chocolatey donut thing today which disappointed me, think I'll stick with my traditional jam donuts and custard tarts! Had a bit of a funny turn earlier too.... feeling a bit dizzy. And need to go make flatbread for with our auberginey north african dinner....

CazEM · 11/03/2010 19:26

Hey all, hope you've had a lovely day!
Cherry glad to hear you had a lovely scan! I sooo can't wait for mine!

I tell you what though, I'm getting sooo impatient to feel baby move. (18+5) I keep having moments where I think maybe that twinge was something, but nothing definate. When abouts did everyone feels theirs on their #1's? And what exactly do people feel? Maybe I'm missing something...

I know it could be a couple more weeks yet though....

ElusiveMoose · 11/03/2010 19:38

Hi all,

Cherrypie, your scan sounds lovely. And you got an excuse to wolf down a load of sugar as well . Well done for resisting the gender thing - you're stronger than me!

CazEm, I think I felt the baby move between about 18 and 20 weeks last time (I remember I'd first felt it shortly before my scan), and as I said on here a little while ago, for me it feels more like a sort of lurching or dropping sensation in my stomach (like being on a rollercoaster or suddenly remembering that you left the gas on ). This time I started feeling very slight sensations like that around 11 weeks, or at least I thought I did. Still no proper 'kicks', but that may be because I've got a fair amount of padding .

Feeling a bit sorry for myself today, as I'm experiencing my first real pregnancy complaint - sciatica, or whatever it actually is. Really sharp pain deep inside my left buttock, particularly if I sit or move in a certain way. Worst is being cross-legged on the floor. I remember someone else on here describing a similar feeling. Not sure it's worth bothering the doctor or MW with, though I fear it can only get worse as the baby gets bigger .

sayanything · 11/03/2010 20:04

CazEm my doctor told me that it's a bubbly feeling in your intestine - nice. It's my first too, so I'm never sure whether it's the baby or wind. Charming .

CazEM · 11/03/2010 20:15

It is a bubbly feeling or sorta twinge I'm having, like something goes 'pop' a couple of times occasionally, but its quite faint, I only notice when I sat quietly or led down. I suppose it could be baby, hope it gets stronger and more definate the next couple days then!

CazEM · 11/03/2010 21:00

I've just watched this weeks epsiode of OBEM and I reckon the 17 year old parents coped really well! That Ross is definately the best Dad of the series so far, so supportive and there and only 17!!

CherryPie3 · 11/03/2010 21:10

Yeah Ross was brilliant wasn't he!! Bless him

I've finally got my scan pic on profile - go and have a nosey if you want

CazEM · 11/03/2010 21:29

Lovely picture Cherry Doesn't it feel like a really long time between last scan and birth though?! I will be treasuring every moment of my scan!

vix206 · 11/03/2010 21:50

Love the scan pic Cherrypie! I just arrived home to find a letter with my scan date had arrived 7th April so I'll be almost 22 weeks. Can't wait!!

carolondon · 11/03/2010 21:51

Hi, would like to join. 19 weeks with first baby. V. excited and also impatient. August feels a long way away.

Have started to be concerned about putting on weight although i was no stick insect before this! How much is normal at this stage. Have put on around a stone so far but haven't dared weigh myself for last 10 days.

p.s. due Aug 3rd
