Me too cakey - sometimes it's so strong I rush to the loo convinced I'm leaking everywhere nothing so far, but think I might get some of those lilypadz thingy-ma-bobs. They stop leakage without giving you unsightly bumps in your bra!

see here

pamplem0usse · 03/03/2010 09:27

Morning ladies! Not as lovely a day today :-(!
Is anyone still getting morning sickness? I'm 15 weeks and while it's significantly better I'm still puking every few days.....

NichyNoo · 03/03/2010 09:39

Hi all - wow...have finally caught up with all the chat

My employers are being quite good about my pregnancy. I had a health and safety meeting the other day. Main issue is that I am in an office in Brussels on my own and all other 800 staff employed by the company are in the UK so it is pretty difficult to explain to them that I have no support.

cakeywakey - I've been getting the pins and needles in my nipples too.

Still only a very small belly...hope the little one is still growing. Feeling tired and heavy. Might have felt a few little kicks - kind of like tiny wind bubbles but in completely the wrong place for it to be wind. I may be making it up though as I'm desperate to feel kicks 17+4 today.

Who was it said a while ago about having major RL stresses outside of pregnancy? I totally sympathise. We've got a leaking pipe in the kitchen underneath our floorboards, behind the fitted kitchen! DH and I are going to have to remove half the fitted kitchen, fridge/freezer etc. and pull up floorboard to let plumber access it. Also our kitchen and living room windows have finally given up (very old PVC windows) and decided to blow open and leak gallons of water during the storm we had at the weekend so am trying to get quotes for new windows which isn't easy as workmen in Belgium are notorious for coming round then promising to send quote the next day only to disappear off the radar...obviously don't need the business! Stress stress stress!!!

I had to give in and buy new bras the other week...have gone from 34C to 36D. The woman in M&S and also in John Lewis said absolutely no underwires so managed to buy 3 minging bras with no wire. The choice is sooo limited for non-wired bras - either granny bras or pre-pubescent bras! Boobs feel like they're hanging round my ankles I tried on some maternity jeans but I don't really have enough of a bump to justify buying any yet - TopShop ones seemed quite nice and I've heard that Dorothy Perkins do good ones as well.

Oh my - just realised how much I have waffled on (or 'wittered' as DH would say )

sayanything · 03/03/2010 10:05

Nichy, I asked my doctor about underwired bras and she said there is absolutely no reason not to wear them if they feel comfortable. I've gone from a 34B to a 34D by the way .

I wish I could recommend a reliable plumber, but alas they are a very rare breed indeed here. Good luck.

vix206 · 03/03/2010 10:25

Nichy, I've studied the anatomy of the breast and I'm a trained bra fitter. There is absolutely no reason why underwires can't be worn throughout pregnancy, I do wish the high street stores would train their staff properly!

I wrote this on another thread last week where someone was asking about going braless:

"A properly fitted, supportive bra will delay the sagging of breasts, breasts sag because of the weight of the fatty tissue that stretches the ligaments and tissue at the top of the breast area. Think of these like elastic bands, over time if you keep stretching an elastic band it loses its elasticity, becomes limp and longer in length. This is what happens to your ligaments and therefore your breasts are not supported and sag.

This is why a properly fitting supportive bra is so important because it takes all the work away from these ligaments and prevents (or at least significantly delays) sagging. Women with smaller breasts tend to have less sagging because the weight of the fatty tissue is so much lighter.

Underwiring is absolutely fine as long as the bra fits you and you feel comfortable. If the wire puts any pressure on soft tissue then it does not fit properly, it should always sit on the harder surface below the breast (on your ribcage) and should end under the arm beneath the breast, not digging into the lymph nodes. This can cause all kinds of problems, so yet another reason to get the sizing right."

ElusiveMoose · 03/03/2010 10:51

Just a quick post as my parents are about to turn up for the day. Re feeling the baby move - I've always found 'kicks' or 'flutterings' quite an inaccurate way of describing the early movements. With both pregnancies, mine have felt more like a 'lurching' or 'swooping' sensation. It's like a very mild version of the feeling you get on a rollercoaster when your stomach feels like it drops or plunges as you go down a steep drop. That's what it's like for me, anyway.

Aussieng · 03/03/2010 11:26

Vix I think the problem is that some of the high street stores don't train their staff very well in bra fitting full stop! Since the staff aren't quite where they should be in terms of fitting ability they therefore suggest that pregnant women should not buy underwired bras. I'd be tempted to quote the goods & services part of sexual discrimination act at them if they refused to sell something to me - but then I like a good old debate over stuff like that.

Pample I'm afraid that at 20+1 I still have a good 2-3 days each week where I suffer from MS but it is much shorter bouts now than it used to be.

I packed up my wardrobe last night - I put away all the little summer tops which wont fit me this year and all the skirts, trousers and jeans which don't fit me and all my dresses which are now just too tight around the bust. There was a very bare and sorry looking wardrobe remaining. Good excuse to go shopping me thinks....

mrsZaC · 03/03/2010 11:53

hey low!

hope your all well

only one more day till my scan - woo hoo! finally think i'm acually THE last person on this thread to get my 12 wk scan! (@14+) Very excited, can't wait!

nat your midwife was very inconsiderate! I'm sure you LO is just dandy.. I've been having a few pains on and off, just putting it down to stretching (hopefully). Told myself if they continue and don't go away then I will get it checked out, but as of now they are just on and off.

re: bras, I was all set for getting an underwired in a bigger size. After trying on a few i ended up getting a nursing bra as it was the most comfortable on, but I would have gone underwired if hadn't experienced the luxurious softness of the one i have! I've gone from a 30 F to a 34 F on the lowest 'setting' which doesn't sound that impressive but technically I think that means I'm up 2 cup sizes? amazed to hear that your ribcage expands!

pamplem0usse · 03/03/2010 12:36

Ouch.... just managed to slice my thumb with a bread knife! Looks like I'm having a bad day.....
And DH just called to say that the firemen who are supposed to be putting our smoke alarms up are coming around today... you might think this is a good thing, but I look like death warmed up! ANd the house is a tip... we've just had our cot bed delivered and it's in three massive boxes which I can't move so looks like we're running a warehouse!

isheisnthe · 03/03/2010 12:47

Just had my Occy Health appointment with work - I would lke to say that I am officially PISSED OFF with people telling me that I am massive for 16 weeks.

I have had two children close together already - my tummy muscles are knackered, my DH is 6ft 4" and was well over 10lb's at birth as well as ridiculously long so SHUT UP - I am NOT eating too much pie.

So, after the appointment I tried on the walk back in to my office to suck it in a bit (my HUGE gut) and there is was - my first massive defo kick from beany - who does not like to be hidden away

soontobefatnat · 03/03/2010 12:57

Hello all, feel like death warmed up today! Yay!

Had to get up at 6am to haul myself to the depths of SE London to run a training session... at a sewage works. Oh, the glamour! A big fire at London Bridge meant I couldn't get there and spents hours lumping two heavy bags around before I called it quits and went into my normal office. I might tell my boss I'm not up for that kind of crap anymore...

Anyway, sympathies to all those with bread knife wounds, leaky kitchens, messy houses and unreasonable MS!

Cazzy I reckon you're right. My MW wasn't a teddy bear (as seen on One Born Every Minute) but was being honest. I shouldn't expect her to be a replacement mum, I guess. Will see how it goes...

starshaker · 03/03/2010 13:34

mrsZaC you never know i may not be the only one with twins lol. You are my last hope as a twin buddy lol

Hows everybody doing today?
Ive just made banana loaf and it smells amazing. Will pass it around later if there is any left

neenz · 03/03/2010 14:50

With my first pg the first movement felt a bit like bubbling in my tummy but this time they are definite kicks . I am getting quite a few every day now which is lovely.

Nat, I think you should complain about that MW and ask for a different one if poss. Difficult to do because if you complain but get stuck with her anyway it could make things awkward! But I don't think you should dismiss your feelings - if you felt she was being cold and unfeeling then she probably was! It was totally unnecessary what she said about mc. There is no need for her to be rude, and you're right your MW makes a big difference to your enjoyment of pregnancy. Maybe give her one more go and decide then? Maybe she was having a bad day.

My boss suggested yesterday that I do a feature on the Mulitmac for the paper, and hopefully get some money off! Not surprisingly, as soon as I contacted them to tell them they replied saying they would come see my asap . They are coming this weekend to do a demo .

mrsZaC · 03/03/2010 14:56

hehe starshaker in the nicest possible way, I hope not! there was just one on the 9 week scan so I'm not expecing a surprise tomorrow, but like you say, you never know.

I love bananna loaf! I just was taken out for an amazing lunch, involving pizza - yum! so I'm content.

pample a bread knife cut doesn't sound very nice! I'm sure the firemen will cheer you up anyway.

isheisnthe thats rubbish people are making comments like that, everyone balloons at different rates I'm sure, and anyway they will just be jealous that they can't let their belly hang out like that I'll bet u look boootiful!

ronx · 03/03/2010 15:54

Hi everyone!

Just come back from my nuchal scan - the sonographer said that everything seems to be fine. I am so relieved!

Still got a due date of 8 September. Our local hospital don't tell the sex of your baby any more but I think I saw a little willy . Or it could have been a bit of the placenta!

M&S has finally started selling maternity bras in big cup sizes - up to a J cup in my local branch at Brent Cross.

cakeywakey · 03/03/2010 16:09

Nichynoo and BouncingBlueBerries, gald to hear that I'm not the only one continually checking my bra for leaks . Funnily enough I was looking at Lilypadz in the Perfectly Happy Pepople Baby Catalogue this week (I luuuurve their catalogue) They do seem like a good idea.

Aussieng · 03/03/2010 16:12

LOL at the little willy Ronx. I'm amazed at the quality of scans (especially the nuchal). I was expecting to be like Rachel in Friends - crying because I could not work out which bit was the baby

Just had a bit of a horrible shock. Going to post in the employment issues section. Basically, I queried my salary in January (should have kept quiet and it turns out that for the whole of 2009, my firm "forgot" to deduct my pension contributions. Presumably they also "forgot" to make their employers contribitions too So I'm waiting to hear from the Pensions Officer as to what rectification will be taken - presumably this involves me handing over a hell of a lot of cash! I expect that they will allow me to spread this over 2010 BUT I will only be paying 20% tax in 2010 so will lose a tax deduction of around £1,000 unless I can come up with a lump sum pension contribution prior to 5 April (highly sceptical emoticon). I know in the scheme of things it is not the end of the world but . And to top it off they got my contributions for Jan 2010 wrong anyway (took too much ) Useless numpties.

Sorry for the rant - just when I thought I was on tip of my finances for 2010.

cakeywakey · 03/03/2010 16:16

Really bad spelling in that last post - sorry! Meant to add that it's so exciting to hear about people having scans, feeling kicks and hearing heartbeats.

I had my 16 week check today and the MW spent five minutes trying to find my little one's heartbeat with a doppler. She finally located it thundering away when she switched machine. Apparently their dopplers are past their best - not very reassuring!

My appointment was over 30mins after it should have been today - luckily I'd brought a bag of tricks to keep DD occupied while we waited. I don't think I've ever been seen on time for any of my antenatal appointments during this or my last pregnancy. I've given up expecting them to be on time now TBH

thecoffeelady · 03/03/2010 16:23

isheisnthe I keep being told I am HUGE for 17 weeks. This is DC2 and my DD is 22 months, I have been asked several times today if I am sure about my dates and if I am sure there is just the one in there. People are so rude, especially old women.

soontobefatnat · 03/03/2010 16:43

Elusive interested to hear your description of early baby movements as sort of swoopy lurches... A couple of days ago I had a sort of nervous lurch in the pit of my stomach, a few times, with nothing to be nervous/excited about. But I'm only 15 weeks and this is my first, so perhaps not the baby? Dunno!

Aussie God, I hate it when pension/payroll stuff gets screwed up. You always end up paying for someone's stupid mistake. Hope they resolve it for you properly.

Must continue my frenzy of snack... Home early, a nap scheduled and nothing much to do tonight. Lovely!!

CazEM · 03/03/2010 17:30

RE: Bras - I'm starting to find my underwired ones really uncomfortable. I had a bra fitting in Bravissimo on Saturday, expecting to be told I'm bigger and just to go up a size, but I'm the same size (34G) so I've opted for their soft cup bras now. Hopefully they'll be fine and I won't look droopy!! I'm not complaining I'm not bigger mind, not like I need to get any bigger, they do feel fuller and a lot heavier that they did a couple of weeks ago though!!!

Has everyone had a good day? (other than Aussie sorry to hear about your pain in the arse day, like you need to be sorting that out now innit!)

I had a fab day, got my grade back for my last assignment (written over Christmas with terrible all day sickness and lack of concentration baby brain!) - Got an A! which is pass with distinction! I'm so chuffed with myself! Who said pregnant women got stupider with small brains?!

CherryPie3 · 03/03/2010 18:22

Hiya peeps

Sorry to all those having a bad day - it's the last you need/want to be dealing with - hope things improve very very soon

Congrats to those who have had appointments/scans etc

Sorry it's not a longer post - I've been super busy today and still feeling a little stressed.

Promise I'll chat more tomorrow Off to go watch OBEM now - a day late but hey

nichy have you tried looking at the ads in the back of The Bulletin for a plumber?

neenz ... drum roll please.. put a deposit down on a voyager today pick it up on Monday. Will let you know what it's like

pample I was ridiculously excited about the firemen coming to our house but they turned about to be about 15 with spots..

aussie I love that episode of Friends. Feeling worried that when we go to the scan and I'll be almost 22 wks we'll accidentally see what we're having. I really don't want to know!

anyway at 18 weeks I have a huge bump so don't be disheartened by being big whoever is..

LizzieA · 03/03/2010 19:12

Just to say first of all I've read through the posts I've missed with being away for a little while and my heart goes out to the people who have had a hard time or bad news.

There is a lot to catch up on when you've been away for a week - not least the Sky+ mountain! (Tenerife for a last minute break, it was fantastic - not gloating honestly, well maybe a little ).

I had my 16 week check with the midwife yesterday, not met her before and she was lovely. It was great to hear the heartbeat as I'm ashamed to say that even at 16+3 it still all feels a little bit unreal and as though I'm going to find out it was all in my mind! I have started to get a belly though but it's at the stage where I think I look fat rather than pregnant (I wasn't exactly skinny to start off) I just want a big pregnant tummy so that people know for sure!

I went to the dentist yesterday (no fillings - yeah) and when I was making my next appointment with the receptionist she was mentioning dates in September, I said I wasn't sure on dates and times I'd be free as I'm pregnant and the baby is due in August. The receptionist then said, "ooh lovely, was it planned?", rude cow! Yes my pregnancy was planned but what the heck has it got to do with her!!!!

In other news I think I've got the start of sciatica(spelling?) I've got an ache deep in my right buttock that seems to be travelling down the back of my leg, it was a bit sore on holiday but I was blaming the hotel bed, I've been back in my glorious memory foam bed for a couple of nights now and the niggle is still there.

Anyway I'm away for a week or so and then rant away for Britain on my return....

pamplem0usse · 03/03/2010 19:16

Everyone.... the firemen were very disappointing!
Aussie sorrry about the work-muck-up.... hopefully they can sort it out quickly and with as little inconvenience to you as possible.
Lizzie my next door neighbour (we'd only moved in about a month earlier) asked me if it was planned..... I felt like saying 'no but we were at it three times a day without contraception so it was bound to happen'. Silly woman!
