bouncing have you tried threatening to close the account??? Sometimes worth a go!! Or, depending on how long you have had the account open, you might want to write and note what a good customer you've been for X amount of time (some banks waive charges automatically if you're a long term customer with no other blots against your name).

Thank goodness Aussie - not that I want you to have suffered the same paranoia - just helps to know I'm not the only one with these thoughts! I still get a slightly guilty feeling when buying alcohol (tho' obv not drinking atm), despite the fact I'm almost 26!

Aussieng · 02/03/2010 12:48

Blueberries I hate banks. Mine recently (building society actually - Norwich & Peterborough ) bounced my £12 TV licence direct debit due to insufficient funds in a particular account (same position as you - one spending account and one to pay the bills). They then immediately charged me a £29.50 returned item fee which due to the same insufficient funds put me into an unauthorised overdraft position for which they charged me a further £20. I have my mortgage with them too, unfortunately on a fixed rate with a redemption penalty but as soon as my fixed rate is over I am re-mortgaging and getting a new bank account.

ElusiveMoose · 02/03/2010 14:12

Afternoon all, and thank you for asking after me. Unfortunately I'm feeling worse rather than better today - the cold's a real stinker - and it's not helped by the fact that I've got to go out tonight and the next two nights. Tonight is a social thing, but it's partly to cheer up my NCT friend who MC'd a few weeks ago, so I can hardly duck out. Tomorrow is our residents' meeting, which I'm not only chairing but also have to put the case for our loft conversion, so I have to try to be charming. And Thursday is my bridge night, which I could miss, but I don't want to let my partner down.

Hey ho. I'll just push on through, I guess. I never expected my top pregnancy cravings to be Lemsip and NightNurse .

On the plus side, I had a lovely trip to feed the ducks with DS and some friends this morning .

Sorry for the me, me, me post. Gotta go, as I'm in the middle of making soup (parents are coming to stay tomorrow). Sigh.

bouncingblueberries · 02/03/2010 14:27

aussie and pample - already tried the foot stamping and threatening to leave, but they'll only refund half the charge. Grr. Never mind. Thanks for the thoughts anyway.

Elusive I've got a stinking cold and a hacking cough at the mo, so I feel your pain! My cough is really not doing my poor old pelvic floor any favour, but at least it has reminded me to start doing some pelvic floor exercises!

On a more positive note - just went mad in M&P store on Regent street! I'm roasting in my dress/boots/winter tights combo today so I thought, stuff it and bought new mat jeans, and two tops Really should have done that when there was 15% off shouldn't it

marzipananimal · 02/03/2010 14:31

Just had midwife appointment and heard the heartbeat Such a relief to know it's still there!
Thanks for the peeing-in-a-pot suggestions, I'll definately try that next time!
cherry your work sounds horrible - but maternity leave is in sight!! I've only got 5 more weeks at work (temporary contract ends). My dh thinks this is very unfair as he has 43 more years of work

pamplem0usse · 02/03/2010 14:34

Boo to the cold Elusive and the bank blueberries. Blueberries you missed me at the M&P on Regent Street by a day! I was wandering around there yesterday lunchtime.....
And finally (I need to do some work!) Marzipan very pleased you managed to hear the heartbeat! Yay!

soontobefatnat · 02/03/2010 15:06

Afternoon all - just had another MW appointment, as I've been referred to a unit who specialise in home births. (Had my last appointment a week ago with a community midwife).

Perhaps I'm feeling a bit stupidly sensitive today, but I found the MW quite frosty and not very easy to chat to. She was also extremely matter of fact about lots of things, including my stitch pains/period pains that I get on and off at the mo. She said, 'Well, they could be your uterus stretching. Some women get that. Or it could be an early sign of miscarriage, which we can't do much about. You might want to think about resting more.'

Oh, and because I'd had bp and a doppler the week before, she didn't do any of that stuff... and I particularly wanted to hear the baby's heart beat again, especially after her scary advice! Feel a bit sad now - I really wanted someone I can bond with! (Wishful thinking, perhaps?)

Oh well, am lying down now, keeping half an eye on my emails and enjoying 'working' from home on a sunny day.

CherryPie3 · 02/03/2010 15:15

Elusive So sorry you're not feeling any better. Hope your evenings out go well

Blueberries Banks? Boo!!!! They're all the same - I'd like to say I hope you get it sorted but they seem pretty un-swayable Hope the new clothes cheered you up

Marzi Yaaay for your lo's heartbeat So pleased for you.

Very slow day here - wanna go home!!!
Have to admit to dabbling around on NetMums on the local meet-a-mum boards - they're local section better than MN . Can't believe I'm saying that...

I DO NOT like their ante-natal boards tho!! Although their smilies are cute and theres about amillion to choose from!!

OP posts:
CherryPie3 · 02/03/2010 15:20

Awwwww Nat She sounds awful!! Surely after that advice the least she could have done is check baby's heartbeat to put your mind at ease!

OP posts:
pamplem0usse · 02/03/2010 15:31

ARRRRRGHHHHHHH! MUMPS!!!!!!!

So I just got an email around work saying that several people have mumps. Ring up the Drs as not sure I'm innoculated and my notes aren't there (I moved surgeries 2 months ago). So ring my Mum and she says I've had mumps.... anyway waiting for Dr to give me a call back, hoping the fact I've had it means I'm immune!!!!

What's worse, apparently someone else has had them a bit ago but they didn't bother emailing around then! Grrr!

CherryPie3 · 02/03/2010 15:47

Crikey Pample Your Dr's still don't have your notes after 2 months? Fingers crossed you're immune to it!!

OP posts:
bouncingblueberries · 02/03/2010 16:14

nat that is rubbish! Can you request to see a different midwife? Surely you need a midwife you feel comfortable with?

pample deep breaths, deep breaths sweetie. Hope you get confirmation soon - but if your mum says you've had mumps, you should be immune. So do you work close by to Regent Street? My office is on Regent Street so I just can't stay away from M&P - in fact, one of the girls in there now knows me by sight and knows my dress size

LCRLCR · 02/03/2010 16:33

Hey Nat I've also been gettign soem very sharp stiches since the early days right under my ribs on the right hand side. Where is yours? It is so sharp that I can't properly inghale but doesn't last too long. I've got my 16 week app tomorrow so it's #1 on my agenda. Anyone else feel a stitch in the same place?

Dibbydab · 02/03/2010 16:52

Ooooh you load of chatterboxes - can't catch up with everyone but boooo to banks, yay for Rocky Road bars, yay for good employers with lovely H & S people, boooo to bad ones who moan when you're 10 minutes late, but don't say anything when you work on an extra hour, boooo to people with mumps, booo to bad midwives - yes we know you see pregnant ladies everyday and it's nothing special to you but it is for us!

Phew!

pamplem0usse · 02/03/2010 16:53

blueberries Dr thinks I should be immune, and apparently there's a low infection rate, but if I'm going to get it I'm going to get it (don't you just hate it when they say that?!).

I'm in the bloomsbury area; thank goodness I'm not nearer or else I'd probably spend a fortune. I went in to get one of those cute hooded towel things yesterday but didn't in the end as they felt a bit scratchy!

Dibbydab · 02/03/2010 16:58

Nearly forgot - I have my 20 week scan next Tuesday - will be 19 + 1, but who's counting, can't wait to see bubba again - hadn't felt much movement over the last couple of days, so put doppler on last night and all was fine.

I did get some real sharp pains quite low down at about 14/15 weeks, but the midwife said ligament stretching or the way I am sitting at my desk and twisting to pick up files. They've gone now, but I do get the odd twinge now and again.

I like my midwife (at the moment, but I've only met her twice), she is called Beryl and is like a nana

Chulita · 02/03/2010 17:05

dibbydab, LOL well summed up!
I was practising squatting today while playing with playdoh bymyself with DD and felt Finlet kick Only a tiny one but it was still sweet!
I get sharp pains when I stand up too quickly or when I go to put DD in her cot. Don't know how I'm going to manage when my belly's huge, she's too little to have the sides off yet

soontobefatnat · 02/03/2010 17:31

LCRLCR the pains for me are much lower down, below my belly button. Sometimes they're just a dull ache, sometimes quite sharp, if I bend down quickly to pick something up. TBH, I've had them often enough and they sound a lot like the streching pains some women get that I feel pretty relaxed. Let us know what your midwife says! Probably will be more helpful than mine! I reckon we all feel these things slightly differently.

Went into the M&P store on Regent St on Sat. DH and I wandered round in a daze, trying to work out what we might need... Nice stuff, esp the maternity clothes. I WILL be back!

CherryPie3 · 02/03/2010 17:58

Chulita at your lo's kicking, sooo sweet!
Having similar problems to you with belly size. Already I'm too big to bath the kids (the baths set into tiles with steps up to it, looks lovely but very impractical - dh'd idea obviously )

DibbyDab Nana-Midwife My mw is also lovely - like a big sister type person - can say anything to her, even non-baby/pg related. Will actually miss her when I'm not pg as she's looked after me with each pregnancy.

cazzybabs · 02/03/2010 20:10

Nat - my midwife was a bit little that but (I also had her for dd3) by the time I came to give birth I really liked her. You knew where you were here and what was going on...she told it as it was and I really liked that. And I am really glad I have her again

BTW they no longer listen to the heartbeat unless you ask

vitapulchra · 02/03/2010 20:59

soontobefatnat--What a terrible thing for your mw to say. I think that's appalling! And it's ridiculous that she refused to listen to the heartbeat. I hope you don't have to see the same mw each appt, do you? In theory I'm supposed to but it never actually works that way.

Well, I must hurry and go so I can catch One Born Every Minute! Hopefully the DHs will be nicer than the one last week. He's still giving me the creeps.

btw, I grew up in America where baby showers are de rigueur, and although I didn't stay long enough to experience it myself, it seems very helpful. But over there one is never to organise it oneself, it's always up to a friend or relative to "shower" you with gifts. Department store baby lists are as big as wedding lists! that part I don't like so much.

Chulita · 02/03/2010 21:22

I'm deliberately missing OBEM so I can help DH study for an exam...and then I hog the computer to MN

I've just popped my BirthPool in a Box in the for sale bit if anyone fancies a look. I can arrange for it to be here, with my parents or with the ILs with enough notice for easy pick up.

Night night all, sweet dreams!

CherryPie3 · 02/03/2010 21:39

I'm recording OBEM - are you proud that I remembered

DH is watching a film about Notorious B.I.G - it's actually very interesting!!! I never expected it to be, have already read his WikiPedia page as well!! He was only 24, I can't believe it - I thought he was in his 30's or 40's.

Night All - I'm heading for bed now!!

Evening all - and hello to our new mums-to-be

Off to my 16 week check tomorrow, hoping that she'll use the doppler to check the heartbeat. Just want to be reassured, although I think I've felt some movement over the last few days.

Has anyone else been feeling as though they're having the breastfeeding let-down reflex? Feels like pins and needles in your nipples? It's very strange as I never had it during my last pregnancy - it keeps me running to the loo to check that I'm not leaking anything. I'm not (yet). Sorry if that's TMI for anyone

CazEM · 03/03/2010 06:55

Morning all!

I'm very of everyone who has heard the heartbeat. My MW didn't offer to listen to mine when I was there the other week, but then again I didn't ask, I just felt she was in a major rush and obviously very behind that dayt! (I went in quite a lot later than I should have!) Unless they listen at the 20 weeks scan I won't hear it now until my 25 week appointment! I will defo be asking on that one! Especially as you've said cazzy that they don't listen unless you ask! I think my friend has a doppler from when she had her baby though, might have a go on that when I see her next!!

I wondered if I felt baby last night, there were a few "rhythmic" (best way to describe maybe) twinges, 3 in the about 10 secs apart and then one more when DH led on my stomach a little later on in the evening to see what he could hear! Haha! It is probably my imagination as I'm desperate to feel baby and know it could be weeks away yet!

Anyway, another busy day ahead, need to try and get out the house before half 7 and start my travels down the M4. I got uni today - doing my Post-Grad in Special Ed which the plan was to transfer onto the final year of the Masters when I'd finished the first 2 years of this.... anyway, that's all gone a bit pearshaped because now I'm having baby I need to look into my options about deferring my final two modules until I finish my maternity leave. So it looks like it will be another good few years yet, but never mind - I'm much more excited about having a baby then getting my masters degree! Got to tell them today, hope they are not 'cross' - I know this course is so oversubscribed and I was lucky to get on it!

Right off to Swansea we go! Have a good day everyone! x
