We used tots bots bamboo but also have some good old fashioned terry squares for a smaller bottom.

Might have to invest in some more of course - oh I do love a shopping challenge

neenz · 24/02/2010 15:32

Yeah we used disposables for a couple of weeks. The DTs are 22m now and I find DS's trousers fit fine, you just have to buy the next size up a bit earlier so there's room around the bum. Clothes like tracksuit bottoms are particularly good cos very stretchy.

They say kids in cloth toilet train quicker, but not so sure about that. We will be using the cloth until they train anyway!

YummymummyKJulie · 24/02/2010 15:55

girls have you seen that website....its just one big joke....but made my all afternoon laughing :P check it out! LOL you will have fun with it :P www.makemebabies.com/

mrsZaC · 24/02/2010 15:57

ooh thanks girls, good to hear all your different experiences. Sounds like something we will definetely do, I think there is a lollipop advisor nearby so might drop her a line further along :0) I love that they come in funky colours too.

dibby those names a lovely but I do kinda see where your DH is coming from..

Chulita · 24/02/2010 16:15

mrsZac, we use Bumgenius and have done since DD was 4wks old (we trialled a load of them before deciding). I love them, they come in loads of colours and they're more reliable (ime) than disposables. Can't wait til the summer when I'll stick her in a summer dress with a pink nappy, she'll be gorgeous! Ella's house Bumhuggers at night though cos BG can't hack 14hrs.
Clothes to fit are tricky but I find Sainsbury's trousers the best, very roomy - and with girls of course, skirts/dresses. One extra wash every 3/4 days but with DH there's always a mound of washing anyway so I don't notice tbh.

girlsyearapart · 24/02/2010 16:21

well I missed my body balance class and had an early night but was up in the night with a vomiting dd1 for about 2 hours..

She is fine again today but I am knackered again.

dd2's excema has really flared up on her face which looks so sore poor thing.

Watched 'one born' this morning- I'm choosing a birth like that woman who had the two pushes water birth looked lovely

Anyway happy news here my SIL finally had her ds2 today 8 days late weighing 7lb 6 no name yet. Off for a cuddle later

mrsZaC · 24/02/2010 16:30

Thanks chulita had a wee imagining your DD with her little pink nappy on, cute!

girls sorry to hear about your DD's hope they are both better soon, and many congrats on your SIL's DS @ your cuddles tonight!

x

Chulita · 24/02/2010 16:32

girlsyearapart, that's exactly what I thought yes please, calm, serene, water birth...pleeeease?
Congrats to your SIL

Alicetheinvisible · 24/02/2010 16:40

I thought they should have shown more of the waterbirth, i doubt it was only 30seconds! It is good they are showing the realities of it all, but at the same time, they should show some more extra good bits iyswim?

Got to go for a wee again today has been bad

CherryPie3 · 24/02/2010 16:58

Hello again, I like the thought of using reusable nappies but am worried about the extra wash load it would cause, also don't think dh would go for it. We do already have some newborn disposables but can always change our mind can't we(I)?

Doubt very much that we'll end up using real nappies tho, if this one breastfeeds like ds I doubt I'll ever be off the sofa/out of bed to put any washing in, let alone the 'nappy wash'.

Lots of time to think tho...

Very excited today as have worked out when my maternity leave will start I'll be taking 2 lieu days on 24th/25th June, 13 days holiday from 28th June, official maternity leave starting on 15th July - when I'll be exactly 38wks.

But I'll be starting the leave when I'm 35 weeks Just 17 weeks to go

CazEM · 24/02/2010 17:09

Ooo afternoon everyone! Hope you've all had a nice day! That in gender website sounds like a bit of fun, think I will give it a go in a minute! We are planning to find out at our 20 week scan, we're just too excited to wait, can't wait to start calling the baby by its name! (It will be either Anabelle (Belle) or Leon).

Decided the worst that can happen if they get it wrong is a bit of inconveniance needing to buy some more correct colour clothes, bedding and my father in law (painter and decorater) needing to do a quick repaint of the room, then selling the stuff we'd already bought on ebay. I'm planning to buy a lot of white babygrows anyway, so we'd have enough to tide us over in the meantime I expect!

I don't think I'd want to find out on our 2nd though, pregnancy in general is the surprise this time, (not being preg, that was planned, but what being preg is like I mean!) so next time around I'll know what that is like so I'll keep my baby a surprise I think!

Right lets go and do the in gender for a laugh is it!

CazEM · 24/02/2010 17:18

I can't figure out that website... where am I supposed to upload picture for people to have their guesses?!!

neenz · 24/02/2010 17:36

I find cloth nappies a lot more reliable than disposables - whenever they have a disposable on they end up with poo on their clothes . The CM has not once had to use their change of clothes since they started with her, cloth just don't leak, ever, really.

The CM was fine about my new hours, afternoons only, £7 a hour for the two, so about £32 a day (its £60 now)

pamplem0usse · 24/02/2010 17:55

Cripes I'm sat here with a headache google-imaging pictures of eggs florentine. Why am I torturing myself so?! Well I've decided post-childbirth hubby is taking me to St Pancras champagne bar for eggs florentine and a glass of champagne (obviously not immediately after childbirth, and baby can tag along too!!!! ;)! Argh really missing certain foods, I think it's worse because I'm veggie

p.s. thought I'd swing the topic from nappies :-)

girlsyearapart · 24/02/2010 18:55

pample that sounds like a gorgeous meal. mmmm and I'm soo hungry too..

just had lovely cuddles with my new nephew he is divine

cazzybabs · 24/02/2010 20:19

We use terries - we do have some bamboo ones but they don't dry as flat as the cotton ones (and I don't iron)...but they have done 3 children - although I think I may be pushing to use them again for the 4th..although we replaced some of the wraps so they will be good for another.

neenz · 24/02/2010 22:06

I used to use terries and they were great (and very cheap ) but I found it impossible to get them on the kids once they started wriggling around! TYhey were fine up to about a year old though. Obviously you haven't had that problem?

Is eggs florentine not cooked properly? Sounds grim . I am not a fan of eggs really. I do like champagne though! I was quite disappointed by the champagne bar at St pancras, it was a bit like a bar in a train station

CherryPie3 · 25/02/2010 08:10

Good Morning girls

How are we today, nothing to report here - just totally knackered!! DS was up a lot last night cos he was dreaming of naughty people! Bless him - gave him lots of cuddles

Am very of all you guys using real nappies - I want to! Suggested it to dh last night and he just looked and said 'are you serious? Do you really expect family to use them as well?' my answer.... 'well yes actually, since it's our child'!!!! Spent the rest of the night fuming - possibly somewhat unreasonably!

Pample Thats sounds like a good way to celebrate getting through childbirth , like Neenz tho - eggs not my cup of tea. Think our celebration to be more like something out of the freezer heated in the microwave .

Neenz Good news about your CM

GirlsYearApart Hope your dd's vomiting/eczema are better today xx

Enjoy your day ladies xxx

girlsyearapart · 25/02/2010 08:17

So did I cherrypie but no last night it was dd2 s turn to do the vomiting.. [sooo knackered emotcion]

ElusiveMoose · 25/02/2010 08:18

Well, I'm with you on the eggs florentine, Pample. Though mine would also have a whopping great pile of parma ham on the plate.

Speaking of food, did anyone watch Masterchef last night? PMSL at John and Greg's reaction to the pork, potato and raspberry dish.

CherryPie3 · 25/02/2010 08:20

Awww bless them, lots of cuddles needed. I hate it when they're poorly, you just wanna take it off them don't you? xxx

bouncingblueberries · 25/02/2010 08:50

another knackered mummy here - ds up being sick last night from coughing so much. So we let him come into our bed for a bit - I was terrified he was going to choke. But when we put him back into his own bed I spent the rest of the night checking on him.

CherryPie you could always use real nappies at home and disposables when you're out with family - we used to resort to disposable if we were going to be away for the whole day as I just didn't have the the muscle power to carry enough real nappies around for the entire day!

Alicetheinvisible · 25/02/2010 08:56

Morning

DH in a grump grrrr (grumpy old man!)

I am quite keen on using reusable nappies with the next one (liked the idea for DD but didn't know what to expect with a newborn so started disposables and never changed) but i struggle to keep up with the washing at the best of times!

Must get moving now, lots to do, have a good day

aendr · 25/02/2010 09:17

We tried clothies with our first - tots bots flexitots and bamboo, with an eco dispo at night. I really liked them but my husband didn't and decided he was dumping them on the side without telling me when he'd done a change, so I came up to bed, tired, and found I had them to deal with. As both of us did nappy changes, and he wasn't happy, we went to just using eco disposables. (Which was a major let down for me, because I was already feeling really bad for failing to breast feed and then losing my clothie credentials on top made me feel really bad - got over it now though.) By then the flexitots batch I had (faulty) had major fluff loss, so I had to send them back to tots-bots - they took a good couple of months to replace them, and not with what I'd sent but brand new, bigger pocket style nappies. If I'd still been using clothies, I'd have been very unhappy because that's a long time without them and I wanted the size and style I bought originally and not these strange things which would have completely flummoxed my husband and mother in law. But as it was, I just sold them and they brought in more money than second hand ones would have. I kept one large one and a wrap and booster for emergencies, and for playing with when the children are big enough to play putting a nappy on a doll.

Our DS now wears eco dispos during the day, but at night he wears a pampers because the eco ones don't last him the night.
It's the best I can do.
