Evening all,

Welcome back Chacha, glad you had a nice break shame about the weather though. Looking forward to catching up and seeing wht you think of being a pre-SAHM!

Welcome back Nova, are you alright? I hope it was nothing too serious with regards to bump and that it's the rest of the issues that made you come back early.

Sharon have a good time in France, being nosy where abouts are you buying your house - North or south?

Welcome aboard Harpsichord, I'm due the same day as you, so you're 25 weeks plus a few days! I've got a 3 year ds and know what you mean about upsetting the balance but there's a few of the others on here who are on 3 or 4 & they reckon it's not all bad so I'm sure we've got nothing to worry about

Rodeo, that's a bit of a healthy craving isn't it? Come on girl you can do better than that

Right off to put away the ironing, have a great weekend all, speak to you later Beks

tessasmum · 29/07/2005 20:04

Evening everyone, first chance on here today as its been a bit mad.

Had a few weird things happen last night - slight sight disturbance in one eye followed by numbness that seemed to travel up my right hand in a band 2" wide then fade out and then did the same thing with my tongue. That was at 9.30pm and then woke at 12.30 with headache (which I hardly ever get) and same hand thing. Both times I was thinking "right, one more thing and I'm off to get checked out" Nothing else happened and I managed to get back to sleep but went and got BP checked at surgery this morning anyway. It was fine but apparantly heartrate is a bit high - about 100 - they said I might be anxious about something, humph!
No recommendations as such but contact again if worried!

After that I probably should have laid up for the rest of the day but life with a 2 year old doesn't work like that and we have been off on the bus to go swimming, shopped a bit afterwards and then came home through the park en route from bus-stop. I'm KNACKERED now but at least so is she

Other than that all is well!!

Welcome Harpsichordcarrier - great name though think we may end up shortening it!

And welcome back Nova and ChaCha and have a good time Sharon - mmmmm, a house in France. There was a bit of talk a while ago about a meet up, can I nominate the house in France as a good location please

Off to collapse on the sofa now and make DH (who dared to come home with a headache - why can I never have my own drama all to myself?) run round and bring me hot chocolate, apples and anything sweet that can be found!

Night night

ChaCha · 29/07/2005 21:30

Tessasmum - You had to mention 'hot chocolate'! Ohhhh..have a terrible craving for some right now. Do hope you're feeling a bit better now, I'm completely honest when i say 'don't know how you all cope with toddlers on board already!'

Beks - How's your dad been? Are your folks still around? Everything good?

Welcome Harpy (took the liberty of shortening that lovely long name) and welcome back Nova.

Anyone got any news for me on my few questions?

In agreeance with Rodeo, we need a topic of discussion to engage everyone's interest..seems that we've all slowed down since our 20 week scans...hmmm, any ideas?

Well it was our wedding anniverary today but was feeling too crap to do anything so maybe tomorrow. Have settled down with a packet of peanuts and can of coke..such class and celebrations!!!

Love to all x

harpsichordcarrier · 29/07/2005 21:44

Harpy! I like that - & you don't know how appropriate that is...
how about this - what do you miss most when you're pregnant? For me:
gin and tonic (I do have the occasional beer or glass of wine, but somehow Mother's Ruin seems like a step too far even for a Slapdash Mum like me - this also means that I look like a dithering fool whenever I go into a pub...)
Crunchy Nut Cornflakes - no peanuts for me, bad allergies in family.

ChaCha · 29/07/2005 22:25

Good topic Harpy!
Don't think there's anything that i really do miss though..perhaps tea but i'm slowly getting back into a cup a day.
I no longer smoke/drink so it doesn't bother me in the least...hmmmmm! I shouldn't eat nuts either but i just downed a packet of roasted ones....

JenJam · 29/07/2005 22:30

Hi girls, i disappeared off planet mumsnet for a bit - can i join in again?

So how have you all been? any big news ?

I am feeling well, apart from excrutiating leg cramp which woke me up in middle of night - .... i woke up shouting help me help me, flailing arms and legs. James jupmed out of bed, was looking for his car keys, completely panicking, - think he thought something serious had happened ... all it needed was some serious standing up. very painful. calf muscle feels weak today. hope i don't get another tonight - as week 25 section in preg book says this is fairly common...wonder if you can do something to make them happen less often

Bump feels humungous this evening; there are huge undersurface rolls from one side of belly to other. i find it amazing to watch, like having a little alien inside. i can't resist sort of cuddling him and applying a little bit of pressure his body(evil mum that i am to see if i can work out what body part it is - doc started me off by saying she could feel the head today, and baby centre sent me a note saying that the babe can feel a tickle at this stage. since finding this out i'm fascinated!

dp was too. but think he is getting a bit bored of being distracted from watching the telly only to watch a totally still bump (why does that happen)??

I'm off tomorrow to a week in the lake district with a girlfriend...ooh can't wait to sit around, breathe fresh air, read books...

..i'm having cravings for chinese food again, particulary dim sum, and crispy duck. it's just arrived so time to go i'm afraid as i'm salivating just hearing the rustling packaging in the kitchen

BTW if you've got sky tv national geographic are showing a 2 part series called in the womb on Wednesday 3rd Aug at 9 ish - part two is at 1 am Thurs (although that might just be a repeat of another 9 pm showing on thurs) its supposed to be fascinating in a similar vein to that c4 prog a while back. I was going to tape it - perhaps we could circulate a VHS copy if it's any good

anyway, hope you are all well and happy and bye for now, Jenjam

grumpton · 29/07/2005 22:43

Hi everyone , I'm due end of Nov and having a generally trouble free preg. Been insomniac of late, getting up every 2 hours but off work so not bad. Bump very bouncey evenings and nights - another insomniac perhaps ? Hav had terrible ear infections and off to st barts for treatment mon. Any one else? Thinking of taking up aqua aerobics but wonder if it actually works the muscles much - have to do something as i already feel as though i want to roll every where ! Off to toss and turn... Grumpton

twinkle1 · 30/07/2005 10:04

morning all,
Looking for advice whats the best way to sell my old pushchair system???? Its a britax travel system in really good nic, so i dont want to just give it away. Besides the money from that has to pay for a new cot mattress!!
looking forward to your suggestions
twinkle
23+2

novadandypowder · 30/07/2005 11:00

Twinkle - i think most people on here have previously recommended selling through an NCT nearly new sale or ebay. My friend is currently in the process of selling her buggy and moses basket through ebay and she doesn't seem to be having any problems.

ChaCha - i can't be much help with your q's, i have mw appointments every 4 weeks until 28wks when they go fortnightly and my mw books me in for the next one when i'm there, so i don't know how everyone else works.

Tessasmum - yes the house in france does seem like the ideal meeting place!

off to have a bath - back to complain soon x

BEKsmum · 30/07/2005 11:18

Morning tessa, that sounds exactly the same as the symptoms I get when I get a migraine, obviously there's not much you can take for it at the moment but agree it can be stress related, strangely I don't get them now but when they happen like that they can be very worrying I used to lose the ability to speak too - now there's a novelty for me ehh!

Welcome aboard Grumpton, glad to hear your having a trouble free pregnancy, hope the ear gets better soon.

Welcome back Jenjam, nice to see you again. Ohh so agree with you about Chinese - yum

Chacha, If you flip through your notes you may have a sheet in there telling you which weeks you have your appointments and where they should be i.e. ospital or mw. I've got this so know that all my mw apppointments are at the dr's so booked 24 week with them and then booked the next one after I had attened that on Thursday - hope that makes sense!

Twinkle, what a bout placing an advert on here as well, might be worth a try.

Right off to find somehing more interesting than housework to do today, two options are medieval festival in Rye or and Extrme sports demonstration at Kent County Show, if we don't amke it today then will definitely have to do one of them tomorrow Speak to you all ater Beks.

ChaCha · 30/07/2005 12:42

Thanks Beks.

Awww..have to share some news. DH put his ear to my belly last night and peanut kicked him in the ear...it was one of those 'moments'...awwww!

Is weird not having work to think about..i've started bugging DH about DIY jobs and am going a bit OTT on the housework...i think i better get a life! Is this all that's to come then?

alfiesmum · 30/07/2005 14:06

Hello all, have had a hectic couple of weeks trying to get the house ready to put on the market next week! We moved the computer in to the spare room and broke one of the cables so have not been online for a while.

twinkle - I sold my britax travel system a couple of months ago on ebay for £81 + postage. I was quite pleased with this as I have seen some go for as little as £30! I think it is just luck with ebay.

I have bought myself a mamas and papas pramette as one thing I really didn't like with my old pushchair was not being able to see ds when he was tiny. I ended up stopping every few minutes just to check he was ok. I also like the idea of not having to harness a small baby.

I don't think there is anything I miss while being pregnant other than not being able to have an occasional drink!

I am feeling very pregnant now and I can't believe we have still got three months growing to do! my belly looks as though it could burst, I think I will have a few more stretchmarks coming my way soon never mind I know the end result will be worth it

ChaCha · 30/07/2005 15:35

Nice to see you again Alfiesmum

I feel like the woman from Little Britain sat here....'The computer says no.....' must be the way i'm sat!!!

How is everyone today? Guess i'm the only sat here inbetween moving furniture back and forth..i'm going crazy! Surely it's a bit early to be nesting? Think DH was happy to get out to work...

BEKsmum · 30/07/2005 18:33

Chacha, your post made me laugh, yep you've just about summed it up until bump puts in an appearnace! I loved my house until I had Ben now I hate it and constantly nag dh about the things that need doing - he knows when I'm bored thats for sure!!!

By the way thanks for asking about my dad earlier, meant to say yep, they are still here as dad has got to go back to the hospital next Thursday, I'm loving having them here, as are Ben and his cousins but I think my parents are getting a bit stir crazy now and want to go home, can't really blame them, but personally I'll be thrilled if they end up staying for most of the 6 week holiday!!!

Hopefully for them now my dad has got hold of his medical records they should be able to treat him next week, sort out his retina and then they'll be able to get home for a while before I drag them back again for the birth of bump.

Seriously p*ed off as we took Ben to the extreme sports event with mum & dad & it was pooring with rain so we ended up having lunch in a Little Chef instead - have promised to take him again tomorrow but the weather is still looking dodgy so we are now going to see Postman Live(I'll let you work that one out for yourselves) at 10:30 tomorrow morning - fantastic!!! Should be going out tonight with friends (making the most of the babysitters) so dh will be put through tomorrows ordeal with a hangover hee hee!

Speak to you later Beks

tessasmum · 30/07/2005 19:20

ChaCha I officially started nesting a few weeks ago, or at least that's what I told DH I was doing. We live in DH's childhood home which is stuffed to the gills with................well............stuff really!
His dad was a real hoarder (as is DH to some extent) and when he died about 12 years ago his mum bought somewhere smaller and DH bought here from her. Unfortunately she just took what she wanted/needed and left the rest here. Tessa makes an appearance 2 1/2 years ago and I move in here (too long to go into here but DH worked abroad and we had never actually lived together until a baby made us get our act together) However the baby takes precedence and most of my stuff is relegated to the garage or the loft of my, now rented, flat. Where it still is
Having realised, somewhat slowly admittedly, that this situation would not change unless I did something about it and that there was actually no room for a 2nd baby at all I 'HAD WORDS' and declared that nesting had started
So far I have made inroads on what will be the children's room, which is now Tessa's room but also has a mass of other people's stuff in various shelves/cupboards/wardrobes. And today DH has made a start on the front bedroom which has been the office/spare room/dumping ground. As he works from home this needs to stay as it is but lose the dumping ground bit (and be decorated for the first time in possibly 20 years!!
I am still not sure how we will all fit in (its only a 3-bed semi but seems to hold enough c**p for a family of 19) but don't mess with a pregnant woman on a mission

Welcome Grumpton. Hope the ears thing gets sorted out, nothing worse than sore ears in the middle of the night. Haven't done aqua-aerobics though have heard lots of good things about them. Doing something has got to be better than doing nothing though the latter is often preferable!

BEKS - thanks for stuff about migraines. I have had a few in my time and they have always been hormone related though I've never had the numbness before. Hopefully that's what it was. Back to normal now though a bit wiped out, managed to get sometime to myself this afternoon as DH and Tessa have been out and I've been flaked out reading Harry Potter and dozing - lovely

Hamster - know what you mean about trousers. I was seriously thinking about trying to bring legwarmers back as a fashion statement last time! Managed to get a great pair of jeans from a shop in Copenhagen (sorry, not much help there probably!) and a couple of pairs from www.maternitywearexchange.co.uk. Its a bit hit and miss but they do have a 'long' section, some of which are over 32" However be warned, they also have the most annoying website in history!

Another thought ChaCha - you've been a teacher for a while I assume so this isn't your first summer holiday? Treat it like all the others and by the time September comes you will be so laid back that you will be able to ebjoy the fact that you aren't at work.

Here endeth the long post!

ChaCha · 30/07/2005 20:33

Evening Beks - Hoping all goes well for your dad on Thursday. As i said before, a blessing in disguise, at least he's here with you and family to spoil him and you get a bit of a break during the holidays. Have a great night out, I wish i could say the same for myself but am now in my jimjams waiting for DH to serve his speciality steak dinner...Yummmmy!

Tessasmum - Definitely not my first summer holiday, something like my 8th! Good advice, never really thought of it like that. It might sound daft but i'm actually going to make myself a schedule, tell me to get a life, I won't mind in the least Just worried that i'll get bored or that days will pass without me even noticing iyswim!
Today i've cleaned out junk in the living room and moved furniture around (i think this was all done to accommodate a new lamp) and am very pleased with end result. Now no-one is allowed to even sit in there...we are all banished to the office upstairs!! Well, enough of my homemaking antics...

I've had a look at that bugaboo stroller...very, very nice as is the price!! Blimey! It is lovely though, i'm very, very tempted. That mothercare one looks great too and at £179 is pretty good to me...

Rodeo - How are you? Where are you? How's about those stats for prams etc... Don't you want a promotion or what?

Okay, sorry if i've bored you. Off for my steak and Terminal DVD....Love to all xx

BEKsmum · 31/07/2005 09:28

Morning girls, just a quickie from me as supposed to gettting ready for Postman Pat, Ben is in the bath and dh is snoring behind me how attractive!

Didn't bother going out in the end last night as bump was doing forward rolls for most of the afternoon and made me feel rough, which worried dh, plus we couldn't get hold of the friends we normally go out with so we ended up getting an indian takeaway with my parents and watching the Big Call - did anyone see it? I wouldn't mind winning £172,000+ for the price of a phonecall!

Right hope everyone has a great day & I'll catch up with you later. Beks (25wks)

rodeo1 · 31/07/2005 14:20

Yes I am still here! Wrote a really long post to you all yesterday but then somehow managed to wipe it all instead of send and couldn't be bothered to type it all out again!

Off swimming this afternoon, will have to summon energy from somewhere as I've done the weekly shop on my own this morn.

Welcome aboard Grumpton - love the name! I think I'll have to become grumpton2 at the mo! 2 new members in as many days - Brill! You'll have to add your stats to our members page

Chacha - I would give Your MW/docs a ring for an appt around 24/26 weeks, they probably would ring you but just to be sure! And remember your wee sample!!

Tessasmum, well done with the 'nesting'! Got loads to clear out before babe comes, and now seems the pefect time with the holidays and the cooler weather but I just can't be ar*ed!

Beks, have a lovely day with Pat!

Welcome back Jenjam, Alfiesmum and Nova

Heard anything from Enthusia, Chacha??

Gosh - re-reading my post sounds like I've got an energy prob! Didn't mean to sound so grumpy guys Must try harder!!

OP posts:
tessasmum · 31/07/2005 15:35

Afternoon all!

Well this could get interesting. We are now reduced to DH's work laptop on kitchin table for foreseeable future whilst office/spare room is decorated - the pg. woman on a nesting mission seems to be working so far
However it does mean limited access for me as, surprise, surprise, work laptop is needed for work! And when he's not working on it here it will be out with him. I've demanded Mumsnet rights every evening though! We will see how we get on.

How was Postman Pat BEKS? The things we put ourselves through eh

ChaCha - schedule sounds nice and teacher-like but I'm not sure about banishing everyone from cleared out and tidied rooms, going to run out of space pretty soon

Might try and sneak on again later but better go and 'help' clear out rest of front bedroom.

novadandypowder · 31/07/2005 20:07

evenin' all.

so, the story of my holiday to Majorca and why we ended up coming back 3 days early...

  • I am a city girl and can't go for more than a week in a quiet village, i like to have choice and there wasn't any. DH insisted on 10 days as he wanted the break despite my warnings.

  • Heat/sun and pregnancy don't mix, although we were aware of this before we went. It was too hot to do anything during the day and after 7 days sat by the pool i was getting bored. Also had a funny turn on day 5 and didn't really recover from it.

  • The food was rubbish - the hotel had to keep cancelling dinner as only two other couples were staying there and the choices in the village were very limited.

  • The hotel (very small only 12 rooms) had houses being built either side of it which meant we had to put up with all the noise, as well as spanish builders singing and whistling tunelessly.

  • The pool area backed onto a family home, and they had a dog that barked 24/7

  • I lost at scrabble 3 games to 2

  • DH had a bad cold, which kind of put a stop to any love action

On the plus side we weren't as miserable as the other english couple there who wouldn't even smile at breakfast and barely spoke to each other. I also got to spend some quality time with DH, we took a portable DVD player with us which we manged to hook up to the hotel TV so we got through some Seinfeld and CSI, and i've discovered that i'm quite good at Sudoku.

Very glad to be back in London, even though they keep trying to bomb it, and the terrorists they arrested on friday in Notting Hill were living across the road from us!

Hi Harpy and Grumpton.

Harpy - in answer to your question, i most miss being not pregnant. I've come to the conclusion that even though I love love love my baby and i would hate anything to happen, i don't actually like being pregnant. I had images of revelling in pregnancy, but it seems i'm not really a natural.

anyway, sorryv for long post but DH is out working so i can finally get ont he PC to rant x

ChaCha · 31/07/2005 20:56

Hi Nova,
Awwwww...never mind. There will be more holidays to come and just think you and your DH were able to spend some quality time together before baby arrives. Losing 3-2 at scrabble definitely sucks!!! I know what you mean about pregnancy, i'm still being sick, can you believe? I keep thinking that one day i'm going to wake up full of buoyancy and flair..but is not quite happening. Slept again this afternoon for 3.5 hours followed by the head over loo routine...lovely!
Geeeesh! That's awful! The terrorists lived opposite you....that's just too close to home. I was brought up not too far from there, think i've told you that before. I went to school there too. Very multicultural area, very diverse. You just don't know who your neighbours are these days..very worrying!
Well Nova, do hope you're feeling alright...we will be blooming PG babes very soon..watch this space

Right...

novadandypowder · 31/07/2005 21:11

Yes, DH is starting to get very protective of me, and doesn't like me leaving the house!

Do you still live nearby? Could do lunch with all that free time you've got on your hands now..

rodeo1 · 01/08/2005 10:59

Morning all,

Sorry to here about your hols Nova, good to see you back though!

Have had a bit of an emotional morning so far. children went off to start their church activity week this morning, they were both really excited and got their stuff ready last night. Bella was looking forward to looking after her little bro, and Joe was excited to be doing 'big boy' stuff with his big sis - well, got their to be told they're in different groups in different buildings Now I know they'll both be fine but I felt so awful as I'd been reassuring Joe all morning that Bella would look after him....and his little face was so sad I did ask if it would be ok for Bella to go into the smaller group but the woman was a bit abrupt and replied something about 'numbers'. Think I'm feeling so bad because I'm pg and hormonal but was really fighting back the tears on the walk back.

Sorry to go on (and on!) but dp's not around so had to tell someone, I'm sure I'll feel better when I pick them up

OP posts:
LilJ · 01/08/2005 11:32

Just had a real family weekend in the Midlands seeing various aunts, uncles, cousins (one of whom is due in September - beating me to all the family hand-me-downs) etc. My great aunt took one look at me and said 'hello dear, you're having a boy'. Well she's got a 50% chance of being right! We also chanced upon a buggy shop in Lichfield that had a deal on Bugaboos (they threw in the car seat for free) so we're now the proud owners of a lovely aubergine Bugaboo and a large credit card debt!

Otherwise I'm feeling great and enjoying being pregnant a lot. Only thing I really really miss is lovely runny unpasteurized cheese and I'm definitely having non-maternity clothes envy! Shopping in the sales was very depressing, but still managed to buy a pair of shoes ...
