Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
babyonboard · 16/08/2005 17:30

thanks chacha..i really had fun sitting here with huge hot chocolate (in this heat i'm mad but i want it!) and catching up on what youse have all been up to
i have started antenatal piltes, which is really great, and the teacher had had spd too so gave me some tips and warnings during the lesson. the ladies there are lovely and tend to go to a lovely cafe nearby for cake and juice after (how bad!hehe)so it's been good to spend time with other women.
i'm feeling pretty damn lonely these days...too much time at home has given me cabin fever and even though we do lovely stuff at weekends dp works such long hours and my friends are so far away (our phonebill has trebled very month sonce i beame pregnant..teeheee!)and i end up at a loss as to what to do
my friend has a design/print business in deptford and having seen the b/day card i made for dp has offered to run up some proper samples if i want which i can take aroubnd local businesses and try to sell.. i just feel lacking in confidence though..its terrible..i know it wouldnt bring in too much money but might make me feel like i'm contributing and give me a much needed project!
speaking of which..Nova i remember you made your nursery curtains..fancy giving a few tips?

babyonboard · 16/08/2005 17:31

Damn..as soon as i posted i felt really self absorbed..me and dp have much bigger concerns at the moment, which i seem to be taking with a pinch of salt and i'm sure some of you have harder things to deal with..so aplogies! but i'm preganat and i can..hehe

BEKsmum · 16/08/2005 19:02

Evening girls, Nova thanks for the info re C&TCF, will try to get a dodgy copy now!

Ahhh Rodeo, hope you're feeling better, must admit I did laugh out loud at the remark about being on a bit of a slope at the time, I take it your centre of gravity is feeling a bit off!!! Sending you {{{{{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}} & a cyber plaster for the graze! Can't do much for the embarrasment factor though!

Nice to see you back Bob & Hamster

Busy hope the wedding goes well & that your dh gets through his speech ok - my dh has done it once and hated very second of it!!!

Had my 28 week bloods done today as they are testing for diabetes so told me to get it done at 27 weeks instead. It was like getting blood out of a stone as usual you can definitely tell why I worked in HR!!!

Feeling totally whacked today as Ben has decided to have one of his trying days - Hamster I can't believe you've got a 1 year old and your well on your way to no. 2 I feel like giving Ben away with a £10 note today so I have every admiration for you!!! The sad thing is he hasn't actually been all that naughty he's just been really lary and difficult which is even more irritating & I just haven't got the patience for it at the moment - bad mummy!

Right best go and clear up as have a houseful of friends coming tomorrow, speak to you all later Beks (27+2)

novadandypowder · 16/08/2005 19:15

Bob - i can relate to the cabin fever and loneliness, i felt that way when i was housebound with sickness. Managing to get out a bit more now, but feel like i should take up a class like you to meet other pg women. My local pool starts up an aqua-natal class in september so i'll prob try and go along to that. Feel its a bit late to spend out on gym membership as i won't be going in nov. and dec, and i intend to get back to my dancing once i'm able to.

What tips do you need re: curtains? I'm not an expert, but i'm quite chuffed with the way they've turned out. In fact I've got a class on thursday so that i can improve my skills and learn how to make stuff properly. I've also signed up for knitting classes in september.

tessasmum · 16/08/2005 20:20

Evening all!

Another one here who isn't getting on to computer as much as I would like!! Mainly as its DH's work laptop and is in full use most of the time. Have been spoilt as usually have my own set-up and can do what I want (the joy of combining 2 households!) but its all packed away whilst the front bedroom is being decorated. Bit of a sore point there as nothing has been done for a while - I feel that 'pregnant woman on a mission' feeling about to return

I wouldn't worry too much about which bit is which, I'm doing this for a 2nd time and still don't have a clue though the tap-dancing on my bladder feels like feet. All I know is that most of baby is on left-hand-side as I have a very lop-sided bump!

Nice to hear you Busy, well done on boot sale, given me some enthusiasm for sorting our stuff out . Been talking about doing one for about 18 months but haven't quite got there yet. However have found one that starts at mid-day so no crazy early morning starts. Good luck with speech, wedding, etc. What are you wearing? We now have invitation for wedding mid-September and I have no idea. Also REALLY reluctant to buy anything that won't get worn again. May try ebay but any ideas would be welcome.

Hope you are feeling better Rodeo.

Lloulou - wouldn't worry too much about size, especially as this is your first I think. Some of it depends on your size, I'm tall so baby has loads of room to grow up before growing out. But people just do this pregnancy thing differently, like everything else. One of the girls at the antenatal yoga class was tiny for ages (and worried about it) but then she had a growth spurt and it was all baby. When she was due it was still all baby and she really looked like she was going to pop but didn't even look pg from the back.

Anyone else struggling to keep clothes clean? I'm not the neatest eater at the best of times but bigger boobs and a bump just seem to act like food magnets. Today's fashion item is a cream vest top tastefully decorated with every meal I've eaten so far since breakfast Didn't go out today so no need to change - get used to that one first-timers

BoB - don't know what the NCT do in your area but a lot of them run Bumps and Babes groups for mums-to-be and those with little ones. Might be worth checking out.

Off to find something else to decorate my top

28 weeks I think!

ChaCha · 16/08/2005 21:00

Hi Tessasmum, Hamster, Busy & Nova

Hadn't seen you on here as frequent as usual Beks - any news from your folks? Dad doing okay now?

BoB, definitely see if there are any classes in your area. I've started yoga for pregnancy at my local centre and that's about it but i really should be getting myself out and about too. I have some good friends nearby but most of them already have kids and I get quite exhausted after a while and need 'me' space again. The card idea sounds great and i think you should really go for it.

Nova - Knitting? Really? What the needles and wool type? I'm intrigued.....tell me more

Busyalexsmummy · 16/08/2005 22:16

tessasmum-I was quite pleased at the result of the car boot, was hoping to come away with £30-50 so was pleasantly suprised by the result!
mind you, it still seemed that we came back with just as much as we started with!
And i was really proud of myself as I only spent.................£1.50!!
I bought a bnwt santa sleepsuit for xmas eve for the new baby!-50p and a really nice brand new foot spa with loads of accessories-£1!!!
bargain!!

I am wearing this for the wedding-this
what size are you?

beksmum- hmm dp is bricking it! hes not a great speaker either and has problems sometimes with pronounciation(sp?)he is now thinking of consuming a bottle of JD beforehand and winging it!.....eek!

rodeo1 · 16/08/2005 23:03

Just popping on before bedtime

Feeling loads better thanks everyone, had growth scan today everything normal, measurements just under the middle line. Didn't get to see much of babes and felt a bit guilty because I'd taken mum and dd along but baby was facing my spine and we only saw the back of 'her' head! Oh well, never mind, she still had her legs clamped together so couldn't see anything on that front either! So she may well be a he! MUST stop buying pink things!

Been for a girlie meal with my mum and sis tonight, which was good fun and when I got back the children were still up so we did a bit of bat-watching in the back garden! Right, really must get off to bed, speak to you all tomorrow x x x x x

PS. Lovely outfit Busy! And such a bargain!!

OP posts:
Enthusia · 17/08/2005 07:14

Hiya all

Lovely outfit Busy, I have a christening next month, something like that would be perfect, and what a price!!!! Well done!!!!!

Know what you mean about cabin fever, those who mentioned it! It is just starting to appear now as house is on market and tidy, i have less to do! Mind you I still have a mountain of work for school. Started yesterday and although it took a while to get going, actually enjoyed it in the end! There is only so much sitting in front of a computer you can do though! Especially with an active bump!

Rodeo - glad to hear you have your sense of humour back - sometimes everything just seems too much doesn't it, even if the things are relatively small!!! Hope the graze is ok, and that your bump stops twinging!!!!!

Nova - I'd love to join some clubs too but all have stopped here until mid September. Would love to do aqua-natal but can't find anywhere in area!!!! You sound all classed up!! Love the sewing idea- not sure of the knitting, can't see me doing that! I love painting so am thinking of doing some canvases for bubs room. Haven't started anything yet though!

ChaCha - hows the building going etc, any hot water yet?

I had my midwife appointment yesterday - very quick as she was running an hour late! Didn't feel she was really interested which was a pain! I also didn't realise I was having bloods done again, so shock!!!!! Was all fine though. Fundal height in line with weeks, blood pressure alot lower than normal, am usually textbook, but only 100/60 - she said this was fine though. Bloods were easy, she said I had veins like drainpipes - err thanks, I think! They are testing for diabetes, is this normal or because I mentioned that my grandfather had it? That was about it, she didn't really ask any questions or anything.
Back in three weeks now!

Antenatal - both hospital and NCT start in the same week next month so that will keep me busy! NCT is on a Saturday for 6 hours - talk about intensive!!!! They were so booked up they started a new class for a few of us!

Well I hope everybody else is ok, sorry if I've forgotton someone!

27+5

novadandypowder · 17/08/2005 09:33

Chacha - i used to knit yeeeaaars ago (my dad taught me!), and i thought it would be good to take it up again as i've been at a loose end at home so much. I tried to get on a course in June/July but John Lewis was fully booked until Sept. - obv. a popular choice. I think everyone may well be getting scarfs for christmas .

Busy - that is such a beautiful outfit, and such a bargain too - i'm loving the sales this year as it means i can buy 'maternity' wear without spending too much.

Tessasmum - thanks for the tip re: bumps and babes, i'll have to have a look to see if anything is going on around here.

My birthing classes start in 2 weeks time, which should make it all seem a bit more real

BEKsmum · 17/08/2005 10:50

Morning girls, Chacha thanks for asking after me, have been on here reading but not much to add really. My mum & dad are fine thanks, dad's eye seems to be ok which is a relief.

Tessa your clothes comment made me laugh I know exactly how you feel - I've even managed to get food on my trousers lately - I'm grubbier than Ben most of the time!

Busy what a lovely outfit & a great price, you're going to look lovely. Not sure the bottle of JD solution will work for your dh, my dh had a few drinks but literally played with his food all the way through the meal which was a real shame as it was lovely meal. He did make up for lost drinking time after the speech though!. I got the bride into trouble by calling out an inappropriate comment about her buttons being done up wrong after they came back to join us all in the evening and her mum was furious!!!

Rodeo glad you're feeling better and that bump was fine - you are obviously not meant to know what this bump is meant to be until it puts in an appearance. Glad you had a nice night out with your mum & sis, I bet it's nice to have them back.

Enthusia sorry to hear your midwife was a bit off yesterday, it's really annoying isn't it, good that everything is fine though. My mouth fell open at your NCT classes - 6 hours, for how many weeks?

When we went to antenatal classes for Ben the mw said there was always a smartarse in every class who gave birth before the end of the 10 weeks - she looked at me at the time & I couldn't understand why - I was induced on the 3rd wednesday evening when we were supposed to be covering induction & I gave birth to Ben on the Friday we then took Ben in to see them all in week 4!!! Scaring the life out of all the other expectant mums!!! I'm only going on a ward visit this time as the hospital has been rebuilt since Ben was born so I haven't got the comfort zone I thought I would have having been there before.

Nova I'm impressed with all you classes, girls I would definitely agree with taking up mother & baby classes etc once bump arrives, I found them a godsend.

Blimey a massive post again, better go as have friends due anytime & I'm still in my pj's after doing the housework! Speakt o you all later Beks (27+3)

ChaCha · 17/08/2005 11:15

Was nice catching up on everyone's news this morning.

Hi Enthusia - Hot water should be on tonight or tomorrow morning. It's not so bad as am able to use dishwasher/washing machine and shower, just not the bath! What school work have you still left? I had some resources to handover and did that from home the other evening with one of the teachers. Other than that will probably just be having visits from new teachers who are taking on my subjects. I threw in most of my STPs to help them but held onto the ones that i've been evaluating and using for the last few years.

Hung washing out at 7.30am this morning, made us some breakfast and headed into town by 9am!!! This is an absolute first. Dorothy Perkins are doing a buy one get one free on maternity wear so i got some great trousers and vests. Didn't feel so bad about splashing out on gym wear for yoga when i'd gotten such a bargain. Peacocks are also doing some super cheap pj's - tops are all buttoned down (guess this is useful for b/f and hospital) so bought a couple of bigger sizes than the norm. Think they are definitely nicer than the overly priced mothercare ones and don't feel bad about chucking them if they get in a state.

Did bump into a friend who asked me if i was returning to work. When i said 'not likely' her reply was 'oh you're going to be so bored!' I really don't think i will have time to be bored IMHO and i'm looking fwd to being at home. The only disadvantage for me is the income. I've just spent £220 in the space of an hour - this will not be at all possible soon..let alone when bubs is actually here. I must stop stressing about this...

Have a friend over soon so will save some webspace....Love to all x

Enthusia · 17/08/2005 12:01

ChaCha- I was so knackered at the end of the year that I said I would so all my paperwork over the holidays! I was coordinator for 3 subjects, 2 core! So my paperwork is huge and includes rewriting all three policies and setting up coordinator and planning files properly as the school has not used them before!

The school also had no long term planning in place so I was writing up all of that, have got RE and Music to go!

Tessa - exactly the same with food at the mo - actually change if having a curry, don't want to risk the staining!!!!!!

novadandypowder · 17/08/2005 13:09

I got some trousers BOGOF from Dotty P's as well - bargain! I also got some black nighties from M&S which i figured would be useful for hospital.

Over excitable again as I've just taken delivery of the nursery furniture . I can't put it up yet as we're having the roof window replaced on friday, but come the weekend i'll be building away. Then on monday I'm picking up the travel system and doing the big baby shop .

ChaCha · 17/08/2005 15:29

Nova - I bought a pair of beige and a pair of white trousers, just tried them on and they are really comfy. Did you get the ones with the drawstrings? Sounds like you're going to be having great fun in the nursery. Which travel system have you decided on? I can't remember if you've already said.

Enthusia - sounds like a lot of work but at least you can do it from home. We had to do similar this year and it was a lot of work but now we have a great KS3 file full of LTPs for all subjects that we haven't had before either. It just makes planning that bit easier for the teachers to come too.

Weather is fab here, have been out walking, shopping and then had lunch with a friend. The hot water is on and workmen gone...at last!!! It's been a fab day all around. Really looking fwd to yoga this evening and then home for a.........guess........BATH! LOL.

Am actually now debating on whether or not to do a nursery. Point is, they say baby will sleep in our room for first 6 months so might as well utilise spare room as much as possible, esp with grandparents wanting to stay etc..What do you think?

novadandypowder · 17/08/2005 16:34

I got a pair of black 3/4 length trousers in a combat style, they had a popper and a zip rather than drawstring, and had an adjustable waistband. Then I got the same again in khaki for free, I'm terrible, if I find something I like that fits I tend to get it in a couple of colours. They're similar to some trousers that i had just grown out of, so very chuffed, and I can wear them in winter too with boots.

I'm doing the nursery now as I know I won't have the time or energy to do it once the baby is here. We're keeping the double bed thats currently in there so that we can use it as a guest/baby room. Also, I built the bed in the room as it's got a small staircase up to it and the bed never would have fitted otherwise, and I really can't be arseed to dismantle it. Friends have also said it's quite a good idea to keep a bed up there as there may be times I'll need to sleep next to baby. And - I know the risks - I'm prob not going to have baby in my bedroom for the full 6 months, so it will be good to have somewhere ready for it to move into.

This is the travel system I have got, it's the only one that will fit in the car.

Enthusia · 17/08/2005 17:05

no BOGOF in my size in our DP!!! Sniff, snifff. Got a nice dress from TK Maxx though - not maternity but fits nicely.

Am absolutely knackered now! Only went shopping for about an hour and a half if that!!!!!!

Also got some lovely baby clothes from Mothercare - 50% off and then a further 20%, Bargain!!!! They have also got nappy wrapper bins half price £15 instead of £30 - are they any good, any point in getting one?

27+5

goldenoldie · 17/08/2005 17:39

Ooooooooo, bargains, my favourite!

Enthusia - I bought nappy wrapper bin with my 1st, but never used it, mainly because I did not always change nappy in same room.

This weekend I bought two car seats, one baby gym and another huge load of baby clothes.

Waiting for the builder to do a bit of work in the nursery before I can get cot and other bits set up.

Busyalexsmummy · 17/08/2005 19:57

wow, it seems like your all getting very organised buying nursery stuff! am I the only one being complacent by buying nothing?!

Enthusia-The nappy bins-in theory a good idea but practically not so much, as goldenoldie said you dont always change them in the same place so if the bins upstairs and you change baby downstairs you have to keep running around. The thing that put me off is the fact they store up to 50? nappies-ewww so you have a weeks worth of nappies sat festering in the bin(I know they are designed not to smell etc but its the thought that makes me cringe!) also remember that you have to keep buying the liner cartridges which can work out quite costly in the long run....

chacha-must be great having hot water again! re the nursery maybe you could paint/decorate it but leave the bed etc in there, that way all you'll have to do when baby goes in there is put the cot in. Mind you, you may find you put baby in its own room sooner than you think-we were going for the 6 months idea, but as it happens ds was a V V V loud sleeper, snorer and wriggler, so as soon as he started sleeping consistantly through the night at 10 weeks he was in his own room!

sounds like your all cashing in at the sales, methinks i may have to trot along to dp's+mothercare after this weddings over and we've got some cash!

got to go as I want to watch how clean is your house-it always makes me cringe the way some people can live!
L xx

Busyalexsmummy · 17/08/2005 20:54

thought id let the other ladies who've been on this thread since the beginning know-peepee is pg again! shes on the april thread so i popped in to say gdluck!

yingers74 · 17/08/2005 22:01

Hello all,

I have not been around for a while, have been really busy and just have not had a chance to check this thread. All is well with me and bump and I am at the point where I really cannot wait for her arrival! My back has started to hurt which was a lot earlier than with my first!

Chacha - thanks for saying hello on the other thread.

I hope all you ladies are doing well and enjoying the last few months.

take care all
xxxxxxxxx

ChaCha · 18/08/2005 09:44

Yingers - I'm glad you posted Do stay with us and post regularly. I am living proof that you can just come on here and waffle until your heart's content..It's become a regular past-time!! How many weeks are you now?

Enthusia - No sale at your DP!!! Don't mind posting you down some bargains. The trousers are fab!!

Yoga was pretty good up until the last 15 mins - the Relaxation Session. I lay down on my back and immediately felt like i was going to pass out! Teacher came across and said that the baby could be lying on veins that carry blood and that i should try lying on my side. It worked but i did feel a bit funny. Breathing techniques were fab and the pelvic exercises were most welcome. Must keep practising.

Starving...off for brekkie.

babyonboard · 18/08/2005 09:56

Hi everyone - hope you are all well and in good spirits
I'm feeling a lot less sorry for myself..just had a few off days I think, but last night tok out all the lovely baby clothes and sorted through them and got very excited!
We are about to order the pram too but can't decide beween this...

www.babyequipmentcomplete.com/products_database.htm

or this

www.preciouslittleone.com/acatalog/HKVG5+.html

Nova- re- the curtains, I was just wondering where you got your pattern from and good places for materials etc- i know john lewis is probably the best bet..
I have made myself some maternity clothes and I am so proud..a jersey wrap dress and a bandeau top similar to the isabella oliver one. I am trying to resist spending much money as I don't have too long to go now..
What size is everyone in loo roll these days?

Enthusia · 18/08/2005 11:07

ChaCha - Sale on, no clothes in my size only 8's and 10's in everything! Nothing else!!!!!

Baby is doing olympics today!!!!!! Keeps kicking my bottom which is a really odd sensation!

Really wish I could set up the nursery properly now, but know we won't be here long.. Very frustrating!

I am very impressed with people making things BoB and Nova - very jealous, must start painting!!!!

babyonboard · 18/08/2005 12:02

Argh - overbearing soontobe-MIL situation
Both her and my parents live 200 miles away so I expected to have them to stay when the baby arrives..now just found out she plans to rent a room near our flat for a month! I would much rather she just came to stay for a few days and then left, but I can imagine her being in here all day every day
Don't know how to tell her she can't..or indeed if i should!
also heard from dp she has told him not to be at the delivery as it is 'an operation' and only doctors should be in the room. I'm so angry as it took a while to convince him he should be there, and he was starting to look forward to it, but now has the same worries again. She told him the two of them should sit in a pub nearby and wait! pah!
Has anyone else had such trouble? I understand it's her first grandchild but I'm worried this is just the beginning of a long struggle, and she is very difficult to draw boundaries with.
