Oh, Nova - I loved the bub pictures - sorry forgot to mention that!!! It was so sweet. Do they do any of the rest of the body or do they mainly concentrate on the face? What was the actual scan like?

LilJ · 15/08/2005 13:45

Hi all!

Just about to go on hols for week in Pyranees - last one before baby arrives! hoping I don't get hassled by Ryanair as their cut off date is 28 weeks and I'm getting close.

Had a lovely weekend as it was DH's birthday and we went for a fabulous meal at Manor aux Quat'Saisons in Oxfordshire - lots of very expensive but absolutely delicious food - just hope baby doesn't expect to be fed like that once it comes out!

Work situation still unresolved, but have decided that I may just go on maternity leave and deal with the b*stards when I come back. I just don't need additional stress right now, especially as I managed to convince DH that we needed a completely new kitchen before baby arrived and work starts next week - eek!

Nova - the 4D scans are amazing!! We're really thinking about it, but is it possible to have them without seeing what the sex is?

Well off to waddle around mountains.

Lil J
around 25-26 weeks

novadandypowder · 15/08/2005 16:42

It is possible to have the scans without finding out the sex, we stated that we didn't know very clearly at the beginning, and the hospital stressed that it was a non-medical scan so i don't think they would have told us/ looked for it anyway. The sonographer said she'd only ever had one case of upsetting parents to be, when a 3d penis came flying into view.

They concentrate mainly on the face as thats the most interesting bit, she did try to get in a foot but it's hard as the baby moves around so much. The actual scan for us was just like a regular scan, in there for about 25mins, same equipment, layout etc.. We were apparently quite lucky as baby was in a very good position, i think for some people it can take longer if you have to jiggle around a bit.

For me it was a good thing to do as i've had quite a rough pregnancy and haven't been enjoying it at all, and i really feel quite bonded to the little one now. DH found it really moving as well, it was just what we needed to keep us going through the next 12 weeks.

BEKsmum · 15/08/2005 19:41

Evening all, just a quickie before I go and do the ironing mountian.

LilJ have a great holiday & try to relax as much as possible. I think hanging on in there is a good idea and fighting them when you get back, make sure you keep in touch with the company so they know you definitely will be returning, the extra time will allow them to firm up there ideas and hopefully provide you with enough rope to hang them with!

Rodeo, ahhh cute outfit, I sent dh up in the loft yesterday and have sorted out a black bag of unisex clothes to wash - more ironing just what I need!

Enthusia & Chacha it is hard to tell first time round what's what when bump moves, but generally you can tell the difference between punches and kicks as kicks are most definitely harder, whereas punches feel more like tickles. My bump was super active Friday & Saturday and started tap dancing at 10pm last night and it appears to like getting stuck down my left hand side whilst doing forward rolls - most uncomfortable!!!

Nova, Ben is mad about charlie & the chocolate factory, he really wants to see it but I'm not sure if he's too young at 3, think I'lltry to get a dody copy for him to watch at home!

Right hope all is well with everyone else has anybody heard anymore from Firstbaby? I've got blood tests tomorrow, what fun. Speak to you all later Beks (27+1)

twinkle1 · 15/08/2005 20:23

hi all,
enthusia identifyng which bits of baby are sticking out/kicking takes practice!!! either having lots of babies or been a midwife (even when i was working as a midwife it was still not always easy) this might help though
If you put one hand on each side of the bump and run one hand/fingers slowly up and down one side one will feel smoother than the other this side is the back, you should feel uneeven/bumps on other side which is knees/feet/ arms/legs.
Heads feel harder than bums, and heads you can wiggle from side to side (ballotable) but identifying them is really difficult. Hope this helps

Enthusia - big squishy lump is a bum, big hard lump is the head. Personally I cant tell the difference between feet hand knees and elbows. It is easier second time round as your your muscles arent so tight ie we are all flabby!!

Dont worry about your baby's position, they have lots of room for manover at the moment and will change position all the time.Even if your baby is in the "wrong" position near the end, they often turn the right way. My last baby turned in the 39th week, after i had been told I woudl def have to have a Cs as he was transverse ( lying across the way).

Lil - if I were you I would get a letter from your Dr or MW stating your dates and that you are well enough to fly. You also need to check your insurance - some policies insist that you have not completed your 28th week by the time you return.AFAIK the healthcare in France is really good, but you dont want to run the risk of anything going wrong and your insurance isnt valid.

ChaCha · 16/08/2005 10:20

Good morning everyone

I have no idea how baby is positioned but would love to know. I'm going to try and start paying more attention and follow your tips on how to work it out.

Beks - I haven't seen anything of firstbaby, I do hope that all is well. Maybe one of us could try CATting her?

Sleeping is becoming increasingly difficult at the moment. When i eventually get comfortable peanut decides to have a move around or I need to visit the bathroom so don't really get much sleep. For someone who loves sleeping I don't know what i'm going to do when baby is here..perhaps this is my trial run and I should just get used to it.

At 10.15am I cannot believe that i've done so much!!! I've even got lunch/dinner prepared ready to be cooked - this is something that happened anytime between 5-7pm in an absolute rush on return from work. I have to admit that i'm quite enjoying being at home.

Iklboo, Cads, Bamik, Hamster......where has everyone been?

llouou · 16/08/2005 10:54

Morning,
Not looked at the computer for a couple of days and its surprised me how many entries there are since i last asked about 3D scans. After looking at more info on the computer, decided to wait the 2 1/2 months to meet Bump.

I'm a bit bored at the mo as the school hols are still in session and i don't have alot to do. Bump's room is complete - just waiting on a crib -, and there is only so much cleaning i can do without going mental.

take care
X

llouou · 16/08/2005 10:59

Does size matter?? After reading though the various baby and pregnancy books, I have come to the conclusion that i am small in comparison. I thought that by this stage i would be huge. And i don't seem to be getting bigger.

I have a check up on the 18th and will enquire with the midwife.

novadandypowder · 16/08/2005 11:18

llouou at 26wks i went through a mad stage of worrying that i hadn't grown for ages, and then suddenly i got a huge spurt at 28wks. Don't forget, the fundal height (from pubic bone to top of bump) only grows about a cm a week which isn't the hugest amount - as long as your fundal height measures the same in cm's as your number of weeks (+/- 1or 2cms) then you're fine.

novadandypowder · 16/08/2005 11:22

and don't forget - we have another 3 months of growing to do yet !!!!!!!!!

I'm in bump denial at the moment, i keep thinking i can hide it and that it's not really that noticable, but it is becoming rather big now. Even DH who sees me everyday has commented on how it suddenly seems to have grown. I think it looks silly, and can't find anything sexy about it at all.

novadandypowder · 16/08/2005 11:26

sorry - me again

Beksmum - re: C&TCF. I think a 3 year old would find the beginning a bit boring, but once they go into the factory it is visually great, and they are in the factory for a lot of the movie.

Enthusia · 16/08/2005 11:28

This may sound really stupid, but i keep forgetting I'm pregnant!

I don't feel pregnant, unless I think about it. I have a bump etc, but I don't feel heavy or huge, my balance is the same and I am feeling really well, really happy at mo. I am just carrying on as normal. My only worry is that maybe I am not bonding enough! I mean its not usual to forget its there is it?

Even the movements - sometimes i just rub it and carry on - other times i sit and enjoy it, but during the day its a 'oh there it is again, kind of thing' used to feel very maternal - not really now!!!!!

babyonboard · 16/08/2005 11:41

Hello everyone..haven't been online for a while so I had a lot of catching up to do!
glad everything seems great for most of you at the moment.
nova - your tot is adorable! we were thinking about getting a scan done and that has pretty much swung my decision. do you know if there is a long waiting list for the portland as i'd like it done there in two weeks time?
i can't believe how fast times going, a couple of months back i felt like i was going to be pregnant forever but the due date now seems scarily close!
dp and i are making the most of our free time, going out for food and walks a lot and taking weekend breaks, which has been great.
also realised just how many baby clothes i have already..four drawers full! need to stop shopping really..heehee
still have killer spd but have found some good advice on mumsnet and am steadily learning to deal with it and work around it.
must remember to do the loo roll test again and compare it to last time!
okay, off to finish reading the rest of the posts..we have been busy! i guess a lot of you have finished work now..hoorah
x

novadandypowder · 16/08/2005 11:42

Enthusia i keep trying to carry on like i did before i was pregnant, and most of the time it's other people who won't let me do things. I feel heavy sometimes if i walk for a long distance, but i'm the same as you when it comes to kicks.

Maybe it's better to carry on as normal rather than obsess about it?

novadandypowder · 16/08/2005 11:48

Hi BoB - no waiting list at the Portland, i booked mine 2 weeks in advance because i wanted it at the same time as my mw appointment, but if you're flexible on dates and times then you should be able to call up a week before. The number of the imaging dept. is 020 7390 8032, and the main portland reception is 020 7580 4400.

Know what you mean about being pregnant forever, and i keep getting realisations that life will never be the same again

rodeo1 · 16/08/2005 12:02

Morning!

Had a really crappy day yesterday!!!

Had a picnic with friends planned, (including my friend from Madrid who's over visiting her parents up north, but came down for the day to se us), went to doc's atv 10 for a review of the dreaded 'ulcer' which still really stings BTW, and after waiting for my appt fdor an hour she sent me to gynae ward! Waited to see registrar until half 2 and he looked for 2 embarrassing milliseconds to say it was healling - nothing to worry about!

Did get to picnic about half 3 and it was lovely seeing my friends, but then I fellover into a big muddy puddle feet first(it was really deep and I ruined my shoes), I would laugh about it but I think I pulled something inmy bump as it really hurt last night (did consider going to labour ward) but I've got a antenatal appt today at the hosp so I will tell them about it then, babe's still moving so ithink all is well in there but just being a bit paranoid and emotional.

Sorry to go on, I have got a growth scan with my appt so I'm hoping that will cheer me up- I'm sure it will, and I'm going out for a nice meal with mum and sis tonight because they're both back from their hols thank goodness.

I'll speak to you all later anyway, let you know how I get on,

28+6 xx x

my keys on my keyboard keep sticking !!!

LOL
When we first got married I stayed at home for a while as I'd just returned from abroad. I was teasing DH the other night by saying winter is fast approaching and while you're having to get out to work in those cold mornings i'll be lying in our warm bed like i used to.........
It was only when he gave a smug grin that i remembered that that would most probably not be the case this winter

rodeo1 · 16/08/2005 12:06

And I grazed my knee when I fell over and loads of people saw me, Iwas up a foot deep in mud, just wanted to clarify for maximum sympathy! See - I'm nearly seeing the funny side

I'm sure i'll laugh later!

ChaCha · 16/08/2005 12:07

Sorry Rodeo - We must have been typing at the same time.
How is bump feeling now? I do hope you're okay - you'll have to take better care of yourself. How did you manage to fall into a puddle??? Let us know how your appt is - everything's bound to be fine but keep us posted anyway.

On a happier note glad that your stingy bit is healing well.

I cannot believe that you are almost 29weeks!!!! I'm not yet 26!! When is your due date again?

rodeo1 · 16/08/2005 12:13

Bump still a bit twingy, I will let you know about appt - it's at 2pm, due date 3rd Nov but they want to deliver around 37 weeks so I think gives me a date of somewhere round the 12th Oct. I hope some of the other Nov ladies deliver a bit early! Does seem to be flying by...

Not quite sure how I fell in, one second I was walking past it, the next I was in it! (I was on a bit of a slope at the time)

Hi there,
Haven't found time to get on here lately. There's always something to do.

Hope you're all well. I finished work on Friday very, very happy about that. Early mornings were begining to take their toll to say the least. I haven't decided whether or not to go back yet-we'll see.

Ds was 1 on Saturday. We had a party for him. It rained all day though, which was crap as most of his pressies were outdoor related-ie a swing, a sit on car etc. I was gutted to be stuck in all day. Not to mention the fact that the house was a tip due to children being stuck in too! LOL All good fun though!

Rodeo-I hope you're ok. I read what happened, take care!

Well, I'll be off, I'll report about my midwife appointment when I have more time, but all is well.
Take care all!

xx
