Hello guys!

Been feeling fed up today, I'm the one from the 'embarassing ulcer' thread on pg. Thought I'd own up! But it's been really getting me down, it's really sore! Off to doc's about it tomorrow, but I'm not relishing the thought obviously!! Will let you know how I get on....

Just had a lovely sunday dinner anyway (with treacle tart and custard for pudding), cheered me up a little, my mum and sis are away too so I'm really feeling sorry for myself - think you may have passed it on to me Beks!!

I've had the epidurals you've all been horrified by girls, and they're realy not that bad!! It doesn't hurt a lot, just a 'sharp scratch'!! And with each one I've had they couldn't get the site quite right, so they had to take needle out and go a vertebrae higher (or lower- wish I could remember so I can tell anaethetist this time!). So I've had the 'steel rod' injected 6 times!

Goldenoldie, why are you thinking of opting for a GA? My epidural's were great (did spew a bit after them). Had a GA when I broke my leg and needed a steel rod (a real one though! - see above)inserting into my shinbone and I reacted quite badly to it. I suppose everybody's reacts differently to different procedures though, and I'm sure you've got very valid reasons. Would your dh be allowed in the theatre if you were under a GA? Tell me to p*ss off if you think I'm being too intrusive Sorry!

Twinkle, glad the kids had a lovely time! I'm putting off sorting baby clothes, though must do it sooner than later!

Hoping to ask at growth scan (a week on Tues) if bub's still looks 'girlie' as they couldn't be 100% last time. But my mothers coming with me and doesn't want to know (she doesn't think I know!), so wondering how I'm going to engineer it? Any ideas anyone?! She keeps saying 'You're not going to find out are you?' to which I reply 'Noooooo!'. I'm such a crafty liar!

Right I'm off now, dinner's going down a bit, we're all watching 'Ice Age' (well I'm half watching), speak to you all tomorrow - after my dreaded appt with the Doc - oh, how embarrassing!

Rodeo - I think they are quite used to one person wanting to know the sex and the other not. If you explain they will write it on a piece of paper and give it to you.

Enthusia - if you can get the loan of a moses bases that would be good, as they are very small and some babies grow out them in about 6 weeks. especially if your baby sleeps with their arms out to the side. They are pretty expensive just for 6 weeks, by the time you buy the mattress, sheet and all the fancy frilly trims which you wont be able to resist.

We used a wooden crib so DS could be in our bedroom ( cot is too big), which will last til your baby can sit up ( ? about 6 months). Not cheap, about £70 I think, but we will have used it for 3 kids. Again great if you can borrow one, they take up a lot of space so most families are keen to get rid of them when no longer needed.

I had an epidural with Ds and thought it was GREAT!!!! Was in so much pain hardly remember it going in. I was very lucky that I dont have a "thing" about needles, it worked first time & had no side effects - just wonderful pain relief ( I'm a big wimp). Have signed up for another this time

goldenoldie · 07/08/2005 21:03

I recover well with GA, had one with my first, any excuse to get a sleep in!

rodeo1 · 07/08/2005 21:40

There's a cheap rocking crib in the new mothercare catalogue by 'eco-somebody'(?) made of cardboard! Looks really cute though. My 2 never slept in their moses basket and maybe if they had somethink that could rock they'd have been more inclined to sleep in it?

I've thought about getting one of those amby baby nests this time though (it's suspended from a heavy duty spring), quite expensive but they can sleep in them til they are around 1, and I've not got to buy too much in the way of baby equipment this time!

Ahh goldenoldie!! We'll give you that one seeing as you'll be the only mother expecting twins!!

Oh BTW, have started preparing my nipples for breastfeeding this weekend, I'm massaging Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream into them twice daily! Oooh, get me, how posh!

Enthusia - I will have my revenge!!! I am booking myself into the bathroom next weekend for a night of pure indulgence and pampering. I'm away this week and we'll have no hot water until I return so it will be the treat that i've been looking forward to. Any suggestions on Lush bath goodies? I always end up smelling EVERYTHING in sight.

Rodeo - Hopefully ulcer is nothing serious. Don't be embarrassed though. I had to talk to my GP about something not so long ago and I was blusing the whole time. She laughed and told me that I wouldn't believe the kind of things she hears day in and day out and made light of it all. Most important, you're getting it checked out sooner than later. Cyber Hugs and fingers crossed. Will log in at some point tomorrow if i can and check on you xxx

Beks - Having a busy weekend?

Where is Firstbabyandnervous - is everything okay with you and bubs? Please let us know.

Kristina - It's good to hear that you're in favour of the epidural. The watching of it being inserted on TV made me totally squeamish, am bad enough as it is.

I thought at 24 weeks I was actually 6 months pregnant but discovered in my book that am not actually 6 months pregnant until Week 27!!!! Does that sound right then?

Have a good Monday everyone. xx

novadandypowder · 08/08/2005 10:49

well, had a very pleasant but tiring weekend. Went out to lunch with DH on saturday which always feels like dating as we don't go out to lunch much. You can't move in Notting Hill for all the Bugaboo Frogs, glad I'm not getting one now. Went out clubbing in the evening as DH was DJing, felt very ridiculous in an outfit that exposed bump, and got lots of double takes from clubbers who were a bit shocked to see a 6 month pg woman shaking her thang on the dance floor. Was quite excited that i didn't get to bed until 4.30am - didn't think i'd have it in me, but thankfully didn't have much to do yesterday, and DH cooked a lovely sunday lamb roast.

Chacha - i would say get one of EVERYTHING in Lush, but if push comes to shove my personal fave is a bath melt called 'cierwans cauldron'. I would also recommend any of the bubble baths and bath bombs, although be careful you don't get one with glitter in as it gets everywhere. Their solid coco butter massage bars are lovely but can be hard work to get going. I sadly do not like any of their shower gels, i always end up at the Body Shop for those.

Also, i think if you work it out you're pg for nearly 10 months which is why the weeks/months sit together a bit funny. I felt like i was 5 1/2 months for ages, glad to finally be at the 6 mark.

Off to the Job Centre today to apply for Maternity Allowance, hopefully it'll be straight forward, and i won't be q'ing for hours.

rodeo1 · 08/08/2005 11:58

Well just got back from the docs and they say I have a burst bartholin gland! Ouch! Just needs a course of anti-biotics to clear it up. Doctor was lovely and knew what it was straight away, was still embarrassing but not too bad - glad it's over with! Dp was more relieved than I was though, he'd been googling it on the web last night after I'd gone to bed and was convinced I'd got cancer - obviously didn't tell me til I got back! So, still stings but I am on the mend!

Thanks for the lovely kind words Chacha!

I must get myself down to Lush this week - it seems like the place to go!

Speak to you all later x x x

Afternoon girls, Rodeo glad you've got yourself sorted, even after giving birth there are still a few things that can remain embarrassing aren't there - but then again not many!!!

Had a productive w/end gloss painting the hallway and painting the doors we were supposed to be replacing. I've been putting it off for months but it actually only took me a day in total - we can now order the carpet for the baby's room and the hall and stairs.

Chacha sorry meant to answer this before but the reason your dates sound odd is that the dr's count pregnancy as 40 weeks, two weeks before you actually conceive i.e. the first day of your last period and two weeks at the other end but I can't remember what they were for so instead of being pregnant for 9 mths (36wks) it's actually 10 mths (40 wks)

Girls I've got to disagree I'm not a big fan of Lush products, my dh has brought them for me twice but I find them too overpowering. I was given some Vanilla bath stuff from Bodyshop for my birthday though which is lovely and also some stuff from Virgin V which was great as it was very fresh.

Agree with the discussions re borrowing a moses basket etc and also one thing I did learn with Ben was that he didn't like cold sheets and would wake up straight away so in the end I swapped base sheets for bath towels, all nice and snuggly and didn't hear a peep out of him!

Off to make myself look a nutter this afternoon as we are making a scrap book for a friend who is moving to Hong Kong for a year so have to take photo's of the local area i.e. her road sign, local shops etc if anyone has any suggestions of what else to put in it fire away as I've got to get it ready by tomorrow night when we're off for her last girls night out

Have a good day all and I'll catch up with you later. Beks (26+1)

Enthusia · 08/08/2005 12:58

Nova - you are now making me feel very old - and I think I am younger than you!!!!!!

I haven't been clubbing for over a year (and that was a special occasion in Bangkok) and before that I hadn't been since I was 17!!!!!! I am now 26!!!! My DH had never been clubbing before . Spose it is just different ways of life - DH and I decided to buy our first house when we were 17 and 18 whilst at uni and we have worked really hard to keep all we have ever since. This is the first time I haven't worked since I was 10! I am enjoying it though - even though I am doing SSOOOOOO much in order to sell the house, and I am actually in work on Thursday.

Bubs is moving all over the place at the mo, must be hungry, even that or telling me to stop for a while!

Rodeo - glad to hear you are ok, I didn't even know we had that gland!

Beks - what a lovely idea about the scrap book, wish I'd been given something like that when we went to Thailand. How about pics of each of you outside your houses, or somewhere with special memories for each of you! Also one thing I really missed being in a tropical climate was seasons - some pictures of you in snow, rain, wind, autumn colours etc, would be great - I would have loved that! I also missed marmite, tetly teabags, real cheese, kellogs items, branston pickle etc - some pictures of food items might be a bit fun. Hope this helps!!!!!!

Hope everyone else is ok!!!

ChaCha - what work are you having done in your house, must have missed that message!

Also anyone thought anymore about a meet-up??!!!???

ChaCha · 08/08/2005 13:38

Rodeo - So glad that all went well. Your poor DP though..bless him! He must be relieved. Googling is terrible though when you type in symptoms..i think i've had everything from common cold to cancer in the click of a button!

Beks - Yup, lovely idea! Remember telling you all that the girls at school did something similar for me at the end of term a few weeks ago. Enthusia's ideas are great ones too, it's amazing what you can miss when you live abroad.

Enthusia - We are having central heating put in and a few other things (I am really 'duh' in the heating/boilers dept). We've had storage heaters since we moved in so is welcome change.

Nova - Carnival will be happening soon right? It's usually the weekend of my birthday, my father and I were staying in the West End last year and made our way over as I hadn't been for years. We waited with the crowds at All Saints Road for a while, watched a few processions and then headed back.

Right must go xx

BEKsmum · 08/08/2005 17:13

Thanks for the input girls, have trawled all the local area taking pictures and have got them developed, have just found some useful pages out of my diary to add to.

So as you can tell I'll be doing a lot of sticking this afternoon, speak to you all later Beks.

novadandypowder · 08/08/2005 20:10

Yep, carnival at the end of the month chacha. Until last year neither of us were ever around for it as we both worked the Edinburgh festival, but i couldn't make it up to the fest last year. I try to avoid it if i can due to the large number of people crammed into a very small space, but we get stray floats booming up and down our road, and there's a street around the corner that some of the floats use as a getting ready place. On the grumble side, it's horrible walking around the streets for a week or so after the carnival as they are covered in rubbish and stink to high heaven.

Enthusia - i'm 29 but still a party girl at heart. I love to dance and DH loves to play music for me to dance to so it's an ideal partnership. However, it is only once a month now rather than the 3 times a week i used to do.

twinkle1 · 08/08/2005 20:30

goldenoldie · 09/08/2005 09:06

Oooooooo, just measured my bump - 44inches!

novadandypowder · 09/08/2005 12:10

i've just ordered one of these . Waiting for it is going to be the longest 3 days of my life!

goldenoldie · 09/08/2005 12:57

Nova - looks good, but a bit steep - £80 for a cushion?

novadandypowder · 09/08/2005 13:20

ah but it's not just a cushion GO, it's £80 for the pure pleasure of being able to lay on my front for the next 3 months. That experience alone will be priceless.

sarahsausage · 09/08/2005 14:15

Hiya girls,

Been a while since i last posted, gonna take me ages to catch up. Not been lucky enough to have a holiday, been running around after dd, she seems to be getting more and more hard work. Hit the terrible twos a few months early i think.

Still haven't bought anything for baby although i ordered a pram weeks ago but thats it. Also me and dp still cant agree on names. Everything seems like its going to be a last minute rush job this time around.

Will make special effort to get on more often, although wrestling with dp for computer is proving to be rather tricky!

24 weeks today

BEKsmum · 09/08/2005 18:32

Hi all, just a quickie from me as off out tonight with the girls. Feel absolutely knackered and can't really be arsed - why does that happen when you're going out?

Nova that cushion looks good, and agree about the ability to sleep on your front for the next three months - as much as I try not to I have woken up every day for the last week or so on my right side almost virtually on my front, the poor baby must feel like it's been vacumn packed - must try harder!

Sarah nice to see you back, should we tell you now that the threes are almost definitely worse than the twos!!!

By the way as we're now creeping up towards 30 weeks do you think we should start a sweepstake on who's going to pop first, last & what size etc?

Speak to you all tomorrow Beks (26+2)

ChaCha · 09/08/2005 18:52

Nova - Love the idea of that cushion! Having a back massage sitting upright is just not the same as having one lying down - is worth the £80 even just for that IMHO!

I've been staying with my friend and her 2.5 year old DD, I must admit, it is not easy keeping a young child entertained all day - that seems like a full time job in itself to me and then there is the evening shift when her DH is home. Wow! Much harder than full time work out of home if you ask me.

How is everyone today anyway?

Beks - I like the idea of the sweeps.

Starting yoga tomorrow evening..is anyone else doing it?

Enthusia · 09/08/2005 19:15

Hiya all!!!

I have had a good day, house is going to be on market by end of the week, and that brings to an end the frantic decluttering and 'tarting up' hooray!!!!! Was very proud of myself with the way I handled estate agent as well, really feel I got a good deal and that we got on.

Nova - That cushion does look great, esp the idea of being able to lie on front, however really don't feel I could buy anything else like that, esp as trying to declutter, and the fact I don't use my growbag pillow that much either!!!!

ChaCha - would love to do aquanatal classes but none in my area, might give yoga ago, have you ever done it before?

Beks - Like the sweepstake idea!!!!

26+4

twinkle1 · 09/08/2005 20:55

Beks love the idea of a sweepstake;)
I am so glad!! i have been able to walk on the kitchen floor again this afternoon as the tiles we laid on Sun have finaly dried,it has been the longest two days. When is everyone starting maternity leave?? i think you all told me but my brain is mush now. i am going to start mine around 10-15th Oct I cant wait
well hope everyone is well

rodeo1 · 09/08/2005 21:01

Evening ladies!

Hope you have a lovely evening Beks, where are you off to tonight?

Nova love the cushion!! Sleep isn't a prob for me at the mo, I get about half a page though current book and asleep with the lamp still blaring, book slumped on chest! Dp said this morning 'Oh, I don't think I've got the energy for another baby'!! dd and ds go to bed at 7 and don't get up til 9 in the hols, and can play happily together in their rooms for half an hour or so. Don't know how I'm going to get up for a new little one!

So to all first (& second and third etc) time mums out there, how many children do you all see yourselves with. I'm definitely stopping at 3!!

Nothing to report this end really, just had salmon and egg fried rice for tea, feeling stuffed now.

Anymore name ideas anybody??
