Diddle - thnaks for the info. I looked at teh mama and papas twin aria and was very impresed by the weight, ease of folding etc - I hate having to lift a heavy buggy in and out the car 6 times a day. I dont think it woudl work for us as teh seats seemed very narrow. Ds1 is only 14 montsh old and coudl hardly fit in wearing shorts and a t shirt. Dont think he will fit wearing a winter jacket when he is 3 ( I obviously have chunky kids )

I've also spoken to several twin mums who said it was great when the kids are babies but when they get heavy its very hard to steer and the bar at the back buckles as you have to put your foot on it to lift it up the kerb. i tried it this week around a shopping centre with two 2 yo boys and it wasnt easy.

i woudl be very interested to hear how you get on with it. I still have a couple of montsh to decide. I'll be looking at the Cosatto Duet lite when it coems out in Sept/Oct.

Do you drive and MPV and woudl you recommend it?

(Sorry for teh thread hijack & teh terribel typing everyone )

Diddle · 04/08/2005 09:37

I am taking the kids to an adventure park in the next couple of weeks and will be using the twin aria, so will give you an update, hope i get on ok, don't want trouble with it.

Yes i drive, I have a Ford Galaxy, 7 seats. Its great, excellent on petrol a tank lasts me 3 months, not that i go far. I have a friend who has a hyundai trajet and she goes the same distance as me, and one tank in hers lasts 1 week. so i wouldn't advise one fo those.
I would love a Chrysler Grand Voyager, cost a bomb though, something to aim for though.

BEKsmum · 04/08/2005 09:39

Morning girls,

Kristina have you looked at the Kia range of cars, they aren't badly priced - only know this as dad came back with a brochure yesterday as he was looking at the Sportage - they also take deposits of a £1 upwards! Obviously they would prefer about £500 but they have to stand by their advert!!!

Being nosy will you / can you continue to feed both little ones?

Girls those of you who are getting cross over being asked when you're ready to drop or if you're having twins - you think you've got problems I got asked when I was due and I wasn't even pregnant!!! retorted "sorry mate I'm just fat not pregnant" - one very embarrassed bloke!!!

Rodeo talking of Arnica do you use the cream on the kids for bumps and bruises? I'd swear by it and I was told that the 200c was fine too, did try to take it last time but kept forgetting.

As for baby things I've been very sad this time as I've brought everything other than the mattresses for the moses basket and the cot and I've finished father christmas shopping for Ben and bump - just really feel the need to get it all out of the way a, to start paying for it all and b, I was so depressed last time that I can't face having shed loads to do after the birth I just want to be able to concentrate on the kids. Dh is sorted too as he wants to go to two concerts one for his b'day & one for xmas so will order those tickets this month and he'll be sorted too!

Sorry waffled on for ages again, hope you're all well, taking dad to hospital today so will speak to you all later Beks (25+4)

Busyalexsmummy · 04/08/2005 10:44

beks-wow, your really organised!! well done! am going to start my xmas shopping once this wedding is over, so beginning of sept!

Can honestly say im not too worried about giving birth again...yet...but the only thing that does worry me is lack of suppport, dp was ok last time, with me the whole way through, but wasnt a great hep to be honest. im not sure wether his mum will be there this time either as im not sure if her daughter has asked her to be there(the one due 6th dec) and ive got a feeling our babies are not going to be that far apart.
I really hope though that i dont have to have stitches this time around as that was awful and i didnt feel normal and painless for 6 weeks after he was born, i had trouble peeing unless i was stood up, leaning forward and i couldnt take a bath for weeks

have been having vivid dreams and thoughts and am now convinced this baby is a boy......

off to leicester early this saturday for the hen night(coombe castle), am hoping its going to be cold in coventry as have found out that you wear the costumes over your clothes..!!! i'll be baking! if it is hot, im not going to bother with costume as im not putting myself at risk from passing out or fainting!

I cant beleive you've got nearly everything beks, the only thing ive bought is some breast pads and that! and one pack of pampers size 1 as they were reduced! I think last time i was too organised, i had bought everything by 20 weeks and had hossie bag packed from 32 weeks!! this time im prob going to leave most of it till late oct/ early nov(except for ordering the pram) as i found i was bored last time as i had nothing to buy or do!!

Liz 24+5

LilJ · 04/08/2005 11:23

Gosh you all sound so organized! We've got the pram (well it's on order) and enough clothes 0- 3mo and that's it. Also I decided (very much to DH horror) that we needed a completely new kitchen before sprog arrives so the builders are going to be in for half of August and most of September. It's no wonder I'm having anxiety dreams about the baby coming early!

I'm feeling very unprepared for this and was planning on working right up til the beginning of November but am reconsidering and think I'll stop around 21st October. Also having a lot of stress at work as I think I'm being passed over for a promotion because I'm going on maternity leave - will probably take legal action if this is true and try and get redundancy (better than maternity pay!)

Otherwise everything is fine ... just rather stressed right now. Yoga tonight will probably help.

ChaCha · 04/08/2005 11:34

Good morning ladies,

Beks - Made a mental note that your dad is going to hospital today so let us know how you all get on.

Tessasmum - Hope you have a lovely week away and that the weather stays good. We are having work done in the house all of next week so am tempted to clear off myself, think i'll be a nuisance to be quite honest esp when i'm asking if it's okay to use the bathroom every other minute of the day.

Busy - Enjoy your hen night.

Well, i've hung baby's clothes up (ones given to me that is) in one of those canvas argos jobs, am NO WAY spending money on nursery items such as wardrobes etc..have you seen the prices of some of them?? Won't be tempted i'm afraid, money better spent IMHO on good travel system etc.. I have to be frugal from now on and really watch what i spend.

I would really appreciate it if we could devise a list of the absolute essentials needed before a baby's arrival. I don't want to over/under do it iyswim. Please all add your input - what needs to be here for him when we come out of hospital and a list pls of that which i need to get to go into hospital.
I've seen these really neat boxes that you keep all of baby's bath stuff in etc.. any recommendations?

Gosh, i'm really bored aren't i?

Busyalexsmummy · 04/08/2005 11:35

chacha-"Am i the only Little Britain fan here?".......yeah but,no,but,yeah,but,no!

Busyalexsmummy · 04/08/2005 11:39

chacha, in my experience, those baby boxes are a waste of money, you only end up using them for a few weeks and personally i found it much easier to have a nice shelf in the nursery with a few lovely wicker baskets on, which i filled with nappies/wet wipes, lotions etc
i would say, if you want one, buy it 2nd hand as theyre so not worth the money you pay for them-i did buy one for ds, only used it for about a month and only paid £3 for it at a nct sale anyway!

Busyalexsmummy · 04/08/2005 11:48

my advice for hossie bag is 1 for baby, 1 for labour, and one for afterwards, this way you wont need such a big bag and end up looking like your staying for a month! also your afterwards bag could be left in the car and hubby bring it to you after you've had the baby.

baby basics-

*at least 7 sleepsuits
*at least 7 vests
*some warm blankets
*muslin squares-highly recommend you buy these, more so than bibs
nappieswet wipes/or cotten wool for the first few weeks if your a purist!
sudacremsomewhere to sleep cot/carry cot/moses basket
*a car seat

hmmm, thats the basics i can think of for baby for now......

Busyalexsmummy · 04/08/2005 11:49

hmm, dont know why that went funny, didnt mean to highlight any of it!

hamster · 04/08/2005 12:52

Afternoon,

Cor, am I tired today!?!
We were awoken by neighbours knocking on our door this morning at 3am, as some man had broken into dp's work van and stolen his tool bag(approx £800 worth!). Luckily the bloke was a little bit p**sed and had not strayed too far to his next target, which was a car nearby, and had managed to get a wallet.
The police were called immediately, and they caught him redhanded.
It really annoys me, as all our neighbours in the cul-de-sac had their windows open, incl us, and this man still had the cheek to do it without batting an eyelid! Ohhh, so angry.....so tired. Up giving statements until 6am

But on happier note, we get to pick up our new pushchair this wkend, so I'll feel a little more organised! Hooray. I suppose apart from a bit of furniture, we're sorted for the baby.
I hate to say it, but it's just not as exciting 2nd time round. Probably due to the fact that I have ds to run around after, and am so tired due to work.(winge, winge!)

Chacha-when I went into hospital last time, I only took bear minimums;
Something to wear during labour,
2 nighties,
about 10 pairs of BIG pants,
3 pairs of socks,
something to wear home,
3 bras,
toiletry bag(makeup,toothbrush,shower gel,brush,etc)
2 Towels,
2 packs of big maternity pads, & breast pads.

Then for baby I packed(in another bag);
4 vests,
4 Sleepsuits,
going home outfit(never used;stayed in sleepsuit),
2 Hats,
2 Towels,
1 blanket,
10 Nappies,
Baby softwash, cotton wool, sudocrem,etc
6 Bibs.

I thought that was enough for me, I only stayed in over night. If I had have needed any more, then dp or my mum could easily have brought it in for me.
I do wish I had taken(as silly as it sounds) a cross word book, or magazine or book. I had an epidural, so for about 3 hours I couldn't feel a thing-I just had dp and the midwife to talk to, it was a little boring(and surreal might I add)

Hope this helped!
Catch you all later
xx

novadandypowder · 04/08/2005 12:54

re: MPV - i've driven a few for work and can recommend a Renault Espace. I agree the Chrysler Voyagers are also very nice. I found the Kia absolutely awful to drive, and wouldn't go near one again.

re: Baby stuff - apart from the big stuff (furniture/travel system) i'm leaving everything until Sept. Saying that though, i couldn't resist buying a going home outfit on tuesday when i was out buying a gift for a friends new baby. I have a thing for costumes, and got a very cute leopard all in one complete with ears and tail. My child is going to have the best costume wardrobe ever (although it'll take a while to be as good as mine)

novadandypowder · 04/08/2005 13:00

re: Names - i'm not supposed to tell anyone as DH thinks its bad luck, but for a boy it's going to be Pip (after DH's dad who passed away when DH was only 10) and for a girl we're currently thinking of Natalie.

goldenoldie · 04/08/2005 14:02

Hi Ladies,

Can I join you?

I'm expecting non-ID twin boys. My EDD is the first week of December but the hospital has confirmed they will be delivering them at 36 weeks, in November, to try and avoid a repeat of placental problems experienced in my last pregnancy.

Hi ChaCha - recognise you from other threads.

Busyalexsmummy · 04/08/2005 14:38

ooooooooooooh..the first twins on the thread!!
welcome!

ChaCha · 04/08/2005 14:53

Busy - ROFL
'yeah but...no but...she's some girl who dun this fing wot you don't even know about, so shut up.'

Welcome goldenoldie and congratulations It's great to have you with us.

Hamster - sorry to hear you were kept awake with all the statements etc but am glad to hear the guy was caught!!

Is great to see so much input on the essentials front, i'm going to copy and paste all the info and keep it in my journal.
I am having second thoughts about DH being my birthing partner. I'm more inclined now to consider my friend who is actually a m/w and have her around. I've been told that it can be quite stressful on both the woman and her DP/DH if he gets tired, is squeamish etc.. apparently the woman ends up stressing over him too.

Why am i worrying about this when i have at least 14 weeks to go......

rodeo1 · 04/08/2005 14:59

Just a quick one as I'm supposed to be making a pompom for dd (don't ask!),

Goldenoldie, you're very welcome, wow, our first twins!!! How lovely! How are things going for you so far?

Tessasmum, have a lovely week, I loved my tent break last week, hope you get good weather

Nova, Awww Pip is a lovely name!! Natalie is cute too, not many of them about either,

Bloody hell Beks, you are organised!! Christmas presents for bump!!!

Well I'm out for a girlie dinner later at a lovely Mexican restaurant, I'm going to have to really resist those Margeritas though! Well I might have one beer!

Have lovely afternoons everyone!

27+1 (wow these weeks are whizzing by - gulp!) x x x

OP posts:
goldenoldie · 04/08/2005 17:25

Nova - love those names - was Pip short for anything?

Hamster - glad they caught the bloke, and your dp got his tools back.

Know what you mean about it not being as exciting as first time around either.

ChaCha - depends on your dp, but I did not find mine was much help at all. Poor bloke was so worried about me I could see the panic in his eyes everytime I looked at him, so I ended up anxious about baby, me and him! Also he was a complete push over when it came to the medical staff - he just agreed with everything they said - despite what I said/wanted cause he was so panicky!

All the lists are great - will def. use to work out what to pack in my bags. Have started buying a few bits already. M&S sale are doing nursing bras for £5.00 instead of £19! I've bought three.

Finding everything more of a struggle with twins. Was in maternity clothes from 10 weeks and am already having trouble sleeping cause the bump is so big. Still, on the plus side the doctor has signed me off work - so I won't be back till next summer.

novadandypowder · 04/08/2005 17:41

Pip was his dad's nickname, his real name was Freddie but as our surname is double barrelled and ends in A-T we couldn't have that or the poor kid would have been FA-T.

I've just spent a very glamorous afternoon cleaning bird poo off the wall and fence at the front of our house. And we're not talking delicate plips of white poo we're talking mega berry eating gigantor bird poo. The woman who owned the house before us painted the wall white so if we don't clean it off it looks horrendous. It's already eaten into the paintwork. The joys of having a tree outside your house..

BEKsmum · 04/08/2005 19:30

Evening girls, could someone give me a cyber slap please 'cos I've spent all day crying for no real reason & can't seem to get a grip!!!

Good news on my dad though as he got an all clear of sorts i.e. they've said he can travel, although there is still 1 in a 100 chance that his retina may detach - needless to say they are now going home on the first ferry out tomorrow! Suppose that has quite a lot to do with the tears, as I selfishly want them to stay & I'm hormonal as hell to boot.

Nova lol at your going home outfit - ask anyone who knows me what my two pet hates are with regards to kids and they'll tell you ears on anything and Winnie the Pooh, I'm sure both of these things say a lot about me!!! I'm also sure your little one will look adorable in it though. Lovely names by the way.

Welcome aboard Goldenoldie, congratulations on your twins. How lovely, you mentioned you already have a child(ren) how old are they & are they excited about the twins joining the family?

Hamster glad your dh got his tools back.

Rodeo hope you have a good time tonight.

Did anyone watch In the Womb on National Geographic last night, I found it purely by accident and it was amazing. One part showed them performing an operation on the baby whilst still in the womb to repair a hole in the lung, to make things worse the intestines were pushing through the hole so they passed a balloon through a tube, through mum, into baby's mouth, down it's throat & into the lung, inflated the balloon which pushed out the intestines, then once the hole had healed over they then went back in before the baby was born and removed the balloon, it was the most amazing thing I think I've ever seen.

Right off to put ds to bed then I'm going for an early night too, speak to you all tomorrow Beks

goldenoldie · 04/08/2005 19:35

Hi Beks - I've got one DS, aged 9. Yes, he is very keen to have a couple of brothers to boss around!

novadandypowder · 04/08/2005 20:06

Ah BM I'm a sucker for anything with ears, but I'll have to agree with you on Winnie the Pooh. I can't believe how saturated the baby market is with everything Pooh related. My pet hates are babies with headbands, you know the ones with a bow that go around the head, and babies with pierced ears

ChaCha · 04/08/2005 21:19

Hey Beks, glad all is well with dad. Sorry they have to leave though. Are you feeling a bit better now? Think we all have days like that TBH, I burst into tears when DH returned home yesterday after having been away for a night and 2 days!!!!

Goldenoldie - Sounds like the kind of scenario i'm envisaging at present.

[smug emoticon] Made a good meal tonight and a TRIFLE!!!! Am v.impressed with my culinary skills of late

See yall later xx

hamster · 05/08/2005 10:32

Morning,
Needing a bit of a kick up the arse this morning!
Half an hour late for work-I was having a dream, and I kept snoozing my alarm in my dream-so must've in RL!(strange, I know)
Then ds has been a pain this morning. NOTHING will satisfy him! Although, now his new 'Pingu' dvd is on now, and all is quiet! It's not often I use T.V as a baby sitter, but it just has to be done sometimes-for sanity's sake!
I have the biggest pile of ironing ever I'm feeling very sorry for myself!
LOL, I don't mean to be depressing. I've just read what I've put!
Anyway....

Goldenoldie-welcome. OMG twins! How many other children do you have?(if any of course!)I really am ... I know it would be hard work, but twins are so awwwww! Are you having a year maternity leave? Me too if you are. Need some time to gather myself this time round!

Has anyone got cravings yet?
I have my ice craving back. I had it last time, I couldn't get enough of munching on ice cubes!
It gives dp the creeps he says!LOL

see you later
xx
27+1

BEKsmum · 05/08/2005 10:42

Thanks ladies, feeling a bit better this morning but am having one of those can't cope with the rest of the holiday feelings & I'm very grumpy with poor old ds - must stop this!

Nova lol at the headbands, why do women do that to girls with no hair, they just crack me up. Agree with earrings and jewellery too, I don't mind from about 5 but any earlier than that and I personally think it looks horrible.

Trying to decide whatto do with ds for a last holiday on his own am thinking about a mid week break to Eurodisney, ds is 3.5 has anyone else been with kids of this age - any recommendations would be appreciated.

Golden I'm impressed, a nine year age gap, my nephew is the same age and i'm really not sure what he's into etc these days, he doesn't know if he's still a boy or a pre-teen. Thankfully he adores my dh so I don't have to do much with him when we see him or he comes to stay. You'll have to give me some tips!

Way to go with the trifle Chacha, I'm very impressed.

Hamster I've got thing about cheese on toast i just love it at the moment.

Hope everyone else is well, speak to you later Beks.
