tex111 · 02/08/2005 12:15

Oops, that link didn't work. Maybe this will - baby journal .

ChaCha · 02/08/2005 12:37

Tex - WOW!!!!! Speechless...how many weeks were you when you did the 3D scan. I am amazed! Beautiful

DH is taking me for one on my birthday when i'll be about 28 weeks and hit the big '30'! Am really looking forward to it.

Nova - where are you going for yours? London is closer for me than B'ham.

novadandypowder · 02/08/2005 12:54

i'm having it done at the Portland in Great Portland St. As thats where i'm having baby i get a discount, but they do offer them to everyone. I'll be around 28wks when i get it done and they said the best time was between 26 and 29wks.

I'm 30 this year too, although I'm due to be having a baby on my birthday! Do you have lovely things planned for it?

tex111 · 02/08/2005 13:18

I was 25 weeks and 4 days when I had the scan. They said her face looked much as it will at birth but we could see that her body is still quite thin. Must eat more chocolate!

ChaCha · 02/08/2005 20:25

How is everyone this evening? My broadband isn't working (absolute tragedy) so have had to use dial-up on the laptop..it's sooooo slow!

Am feeling tired (surprise, surprise) so will probably have an early night. Our neighbours kids are obviously enjoying the holidays..what a racket!! Don't know how that mother copes... her boys are sooo demanding. What will i do?

Right, time for a lie down x

tessasmum · 02/08/2005 20:33

Evening all! Well got on to computer at last.
Glad to see alls well with people.

Tex - those pictures are amazing. We've got a great 2D one where Tessa could recognise the head, tummy and a hand. Didn't even know 3(or4)D ones existed until started reading on here. Not likely to go for one though.

I'd say the same as Tex re feeding Nova, go with what feels right for you. I bf Tessa and after a couple of weeks we both knew what we were doing and it settled down and I fed her for a year. The main thing I say to people is don't expect it to come naturally, its a skill that both you and your baby have to learn.
People do get far too hung up on some things (and EVERYONE will have an opinion) but its your baby, your body and you will be making decisions for him/her for a long time. This one won't be the biggest in the grand scheme of things.

When's your b'day then ChaCha? Should try and work it out really but its easier to ask
Glad you are in 'can't be a*d mode, recovering from all the mad furniture moving maybe??!!!

BEKsmum · 02/08/2005 21:26

Evening girls, blimey nothing on here for ages then I go out for the day & it takes me half an hour to catch up

Diddle, good to see you, bugger is all I can say was hoping you were telling us you were coming back, look after yourself and keep practicing!!!

Tex, wow how wonderful are those pictures, she's gorgeous and the name is perfect with really nice reasons behind it - well done you!

Rodeo lol at your ds, I tried to explain feeding to Ben this morning, he definitely didn't get it!
Re the breastfeeding have you tried rubbing a non scented moisturising cream like vaseline etc in to your nips for a while before you have the baby, it may allow them to become more supple and stop them cracking so easily - just a thought.

Agree with what everyone else says re bf, I fed Ben for about 16 weeks but he was also having expressed milk in a bottle before then - you really have to do whatever feels best for you and say nuts to the pressure that the mw's will put you under - it truely is a learning curve for both of you and the mw's forget this when they are dealing with first time mums. p.s. girls cold lettuce leaves are great for mastitus(sp?)

I plan to feed this one in the same way and strangely enough all my order from Mothercare turned up today including my breastpump - here's to sitting on the sofa squeezing away like Daisy the cow again.

Right better go as dh is waiting to play his on-line game, speak to you all tomorrow Beks (25+2)

Busyalexsmummy · 02/08/2005 21:38

hiya, not been up to much here. feel like an emotional wreck at the moment, was really bad this morning, crying and feeling really down, but feel better now.

feeding-i had a horrendous experience with ds and b/feeding but am determined that it will work out this time-this is what happened

feel like ive blown up like a balloon this week and have had people commenting on how large i look, even though my loo roll stats have only gone up 1/4! "are you sure its only one in there??" .....of course im bloody sure!

liz 24+3-i think, im losing count!
9+1/4 sheets of loo roll!

KristinaM · 03/08/2005 08:06

BAM - sorry you are feeling so bad....doesnt really help much, knowing its just the hormones, does it????

Sorry too you had such a terrible time with the Bf last time. i didnt Bf DD1 ( for various reasons) and was determined to make a go fo it with Ds as this was my "last chance" ( ho hum!!!). i had horrendous problems, he didnt have a sucking reflex due to birth trauma and developed something called clampdown bite reflex, which gave me a lot of pain for a long time. i ended up mixed feeing - Bf, EBM and one bottle of formula at night.
Thsi worked out just fine for us all ( despite being told thsi wouldnt work!!!) and i was able to keep thsi up til 6 montsh and i am still Bf now, which shocks me a bit!!!

KristinaM · 03/08/2005 08:29

sorry posted too soon.....anyway, i got a lot of good advice here on mumsnet - much better than the Hv who was totally useless. the only thing is that some posters can be a bit insensitive and mke you feel bad about your choices. i suspect its those who found Bf a breeze and dont have much experince of how hard it can be. Like tex said (hope it was her!), we all do the best we can and and if that 3 days or 3 weeks its better than not at all and at least you know you did your best. Hopefully it will be easier next time, if thats what you decide to do.

Hope that makes sense!

BEKsmum · 03/08/2005 10:38

Morning, Busy sorry you're feeling down, it comes and goes doesn't it, one minute you're up next your feeling like it's all too much.

I read your link and to be honest your sil sounds like a nightmare, have one who can behave in the same way so know what you're going through!

With regards to the feeding, you can only do what your body allows you to do, your son is perfectly healthy and happy and is developing just fine whether or not he had breast milk. I personally think far too much emphasis is put on the need to breastfeed, midwives even if they are mothers don't handle the situation very sensitively and often make you feel a failure. I know they did with me because I had to keep getting advice on how to latch Ben on. I ended up in the same position as Kristina doing a bit of feeding, a bit of ebm & formula (after 1 week) and Ben is now well over 3ft tall and a healthy well balanced child.

So in essence what I'm trying to say to you is don't let worry about feeding mar the rest of your pregnancy as stress will affect your milk production. You know now from experience that if it doesn't work out it really isn't the end of the world you'll just have to be more assertive this time to make sure you get far more than your fair share of feeds and cuddles - but then again don't look a gift horse in the mouth either as you've still got no.1 to run around after.

Also everyone has an opinion on this subject and all you can do is listen and take on board what applies to you and disregard everything else, especailly the negative stuff!

Look after yourself and keep smiling, we'll be discussing the nightmare of weaning before we know it

BEKsmum · 03/08/2005 10:43

Kristina, sorry I'm sure you've probably said but how old is your youngest then? By the way is clamp down bite reflex as painful as it sounds? It sounds horrendous!

As I said to Busy I fed in the same way as you, the hv's really can't get their heads around that one can they - they tell you that there is no way your baby will go back on the breast once you've given them a bottle - I loved proving them wrong didn't you?!

Right better go as we're supposed to be over at a friends doing baking today, glad it's her kitchen and not mine I'm still getting the glitter up from last week!

Have a good day all Beks (25+3& god knows how many squares!)

hamster · 03/08/2005 10:57

Hello peeps,

Not been on this thread for while again! {{slapped wrists}}
I never have anything interesting to say though!

Pg is going well. I have my "eel" feeling back in my tummy, thank God. I was getting worried that it was getting a little quiet in there!

Wow Tex, I am so ! Those pics look amazing. I wish we had the money to do something like that! I love your journal by the way-what a great idea!

BAM-don't worry, you aren't the only one who has had comment on size. I've had people asking me for weeks how long I've got left, and is it just the one? Grrrrr.
I will do the loo roll test just so you're not alone.........Just over 8 1/2.hmmmm don't know if that's good or not?
LOL who thought of it in the 1st place?
Were they bored sat on the loo one day?!

Chacha-are you feeling any better? Motivation is hard work isn't it?! I had a bit of a cleaning frenzy yesterday, but the house can go take a hike if it thinks it's getting any form of cleaning today. I am knackered! Poor ds must thing his mum is a wreck, and as for dp....well I think he has given up all hope of having his "needs" seen to!

Hope everyone else is well.
Catch up soon, I have my next appointment next Thursday(antiD & bloods again )but hopefully I'll drop in before then!

Take care all
26+5 (I think, losing count too!)
xx

rodeo1 · 03/08/2005 11:22

Morning all,

Just had brekkie, have been shopping, been to post office and dropped children off at activity week! Wow! Really need to clean my house though, it always looks like a bombsite in the holidays!

Lovely scan piccies Tex!! I got a really clear one from my 20 week scan, which I took a picture of from my camera phone and now I have it as my phone wallpaper! I'll try and take a picture of it and put it on member profiles one day.

Hope you have a lovely time at your 3D scans chacha and Nova - you'll have to see if you can put some piccies up for us after! Nova I keep forgetting you're slumming it at the Portland

Re-feeding - Sorry to bring up such a emotive topic of conversation, but maybe it's better to get it out in the open early as it is such a angst/guilt-ridden subject for us mothers.

I had terrible time with ds, but because I had managed to feed dd for 9 months (after a very sore start) I felt sooooo guilty about wanting to give up feeding ds, and after 2 weeks I bought a load of bottles, formula, and a steriliser and was crying in the middle of Mothercare!!! V. embarrassing looking back, but with new mother hormones flying around I'll give myself a bit of slack. I then went on to give alternate bottle and boob feeds, expressing when I'd given him a bottle, the break for my nipples worked wonders and after a couple of days went back to fully breast feeding which was wonderful, and fed ds for 7 months.

Have to say I would have given up if ds was my first, but as I'd fed dd it felt like added pressure to bf ds. Determined not to let it rule my life in those first few weeks but I think it probably will.

Busy I read your thread the first time and really understand how you felt, I couldn't bear anyone taking ds off me to feed him, (apart from the occasional feed he got from dp). After probs I had with ds, I can totally understand any one wanting to give up and agree with everyone on here, you can only do your best. And even just 3 days or weeks is a brilliant start. Good luck everybody with the feeding whatever you choose ((((((((((Group hugs))))))))))!!!!!!!

Goodness I've gone on (yet again) Soz guys,

Right off to tidy!

x x x 27 weeks today!!

PS. Busy, if anyone else asks me if I'm having twins, I'll probably going to do something that will get me on The 10 o'clock News (ie. stab them, shoot them, boil their head...). I'm getting really sick of it too lovey

novadandypowder · 03/08/2005 11:24

i saw the toilet paper thing on the due in dec. thread. I'm quite tragic, i go into dec. to see if i can offer any advice as i've been through the weeks they are going through, and i go onto oct. to see what to expect in the up coming weeks. Also, some of the oct and dec ladies may well end up having babies in nov, so our paths may cross in the post natal clubs.

I was getting worried that bump had stopped growing, but i think i must just be getting used to it as it is getting harder to reach my legs . I haven't increased in toilet paper size for weeks, still 7 1/2 squares at 26+4 (ish).

Anyone else excited that we'll be entering the final trimester soon? Is it 27/28wks?

rodeo1 · 03/08/2005 11:33

Beks - I totally agree - why do they always scare you with things like 'they won't go back to the breast', 'you'll damage your milk supply', etc. etc. when out of a relatively small amount of women 3 of us managed!!!

ds went back to being a fully bf babe, and I think as long as you are expressing and putting babe to breast for a couple of feeds a day, your milk will not dry up!

I think if some mum's did give their boobs a bit of a 'break' then bf would be more successful for more women. But this scaremongering makes women just give up totally because it can be so hard, and you can't seem to see a light at the end of the tunnel.

Oh god, someone stop me, I could go on and on about this subject.....

Don't want to scare any of the first timers off bf either, I know lots of women who found it a breeze (honest!!)

OP posts:
ChaCha · 03/08/2005 16:01

I think i am in denial about both childbirth and b/f Hmm...

I am currently measuring in at 9 on the TP scales - I seem to be putting all the weight 'around' rather than on bump if that makes any sense. My bump hasn't risen much, I still have 2 bellies, they haven't merged into one yet - maybe it's still too early, I don't know. Any ideas?

Hamster - not having anything interesting to say shouldn't deter you from posting on here. Gosh, just look at the crap that i post sometimes..that's the great thing about MN..waffle till your heart's content

Haven't seen much of Bamik, Yingers, Cads, there are others too. Come back everyone!!!

rodeo1 · 03/08/2005 18:35

Hi all,

KWYM chacha, I'm just trying not to think about the section I'll be having! Just dreading the pain! Aghhhhh!!!

No Hammy, don't worry about having no news to report! I've consistently bored everyone with my waffle!! Just check out the recent post on bf! Sorry everyone

Watched Napoleon Dynamite last night whih I quite enjoyed, really nice ending. Has anyone else seen it? Dp found it hilarious!

Bump keeps kicking or punching me really low in the bladder and it's really uncomfortable!

Anyone made any recent baby purchases?? I'm still leaving it til 30+ weeks (after the expense of the hols!)

Anyone got any names? I'm really stuck at the mo, MIL keeps asking if we've any ideas, she keeps telling me she had names for all her 6 children pracically on the night she conceived (or so she'd have me believe). She thinks it's terrible anyone can be pg for so long and the baby not have a definite name ready. Maybe I should give her chacha's line 'The computer says no'!!

OP posts:
ChaCha · 03/08/2005 19:09

LOL Rodeo
'Computer STILL says Noooo!' (cough)
Am i the only Little Britain fan here?

Rodeo, we have decided on a boy's name, everyone seems to like it although my dad says 'well you still have a few months yet and mind change your minds' hmmm..obviously ecstatic over DH's choice. I chose the girls name you see as i was convinced he was a girl so DH has made up his mind. I'm happy with it, it's cool.

You already know you're having a c-section Rodeo? Is it really painful? Moreso than all that pushing and stuff...crikey, mustn't start thinking about any of it, i'm terrible as it is.

DH is back home late tonight so i'm really happy, was horrible without him here yesterday, I couldn't sleep in the end and we were texting each other for most of the night like teenagers. Can't believe we may soon be three!!!!

Rodeo, my MIL's lovely friend's daughter gave me a massive bag of clothes for baby. All either brand new or worn the once. I've hung them up in the wardrobe in the spare room and bought some baby hangers to go...that's about it really. Like you, think i'll be waiting for 30 week mark.

I've had no news from Enthusia as of yet.

Right, better get some food on in case the old man is hungry. Computer says 'Goooo'

ChaCha · 03/08/2005 19:19

Rodeo - ROFL!!! I just read your post on the 'products to avoid' thread.
I should warn you my posts come with an invisible seal that reads:

'Warning: I have recently given up work and have a lot of time on my hands. I will and can post several times a day on any subject that takes my fancy. Do feel free to post'

rodeo1 · 03/08/2005 19:47

My dp's home late too chacha, that's why I'm still on the computer!

Can't make comparisons between natural birth/caesarean pain I'm afraid, never got to the pushing stage!! I suppose one is pain before and the other is pain after. I would have prefered to deliver naturally but, like loads of other ladies, never got the option!

Going to dose myself up with Arnica tablets, apparently Pupuce (is she a doula?) recommends the 200c strength not the weedy 6c or 30c ones. It's supposed to help with recovery anyway and it can get through to baby in your breastmilk to help them get over delivery too. I must remember to start a thread on it nearer the time, you'll have to remind me...

Anyway really must get these children bathed... they're busy playing 'show & tell' at the mo! They must be missing school!!

OP posts:
KristinaM · 03/08/2005 20:59

Hi everyone

Rodeo - arent you tempted to wind up your MIL by chosing some really awful names and saying they are your favourites? preferably soemthing that sounds really stupid with your surnames/s or doesnt "go" with the other kids. Or just anything you know she'll hate ?

Oh go on chacha, tell us your names! Dont be coy, we have already discussed much more personal things than that!!!!!I will start - we were going for Catherine (Kate) for a girl but baby is a boy so we cant decide between James ( Jamie), Jack or Max. They are all family names. As you can see we are very conservative/traditional on names and have a fairly unusual surname so can go dont ned to worry about popular first names IYSWIM. I bet you are all going for cool trendy names - we're just old and boring

Re size of bump - I think it grows up the way now and not out for a while but I cant remember. The dr/mw usually measures up from your pubic bone and you shoudl be about the same number of cm as you are weeks - is that right? You'd think I would remember.......

Arnica - I took 30c last time. Dont know if it made any difference but at least it doenst do any harm. will ask about the 200c though

Baby stuff - have been loking at twin buggies - what a nightmare. they all seem to have some drawback.Have even looked at the jane powertwin ( on BAMs recommedndation). Its wonderful but not sure i can justify £330!!!!! . I think I will wait til Sept and look at the Cosatto Duet Lite which will be about £170.

All other baby purchases have paled into insignificance as we need to buy a MPV to get all the kids in car seats. Even used MPVs are not cheap so we are doing LOTS of research on this.

Bf - my youngest is 14 montsh old, so conceiving this one was a bit of a surprise. I cant believe I am still BF him - I will turn into one of these mad women Bf their 5yo and haranging anyone who stops before their child is walking

tessasmum · 04/08/2005 07:36

Quick one here as b***d laptop ate TWO messages I tried to post last night

Off to Devon for a week today and really looking forward to it. It will test the quality of our 'easy to put up tent' to see how well I manage when 6 months gone!! Bit of a test for September but that's another story!

Take care all of you, see you in a week

tessasmum · 04/08/2005 07:37

OK, I still can't get the ** thing right

Diddle · 04/08/2005 08:02

kristinaM - I've just bought the mamas & papas Twin Aria, it was £199 and is great, wide enough for my toddlers to sit in it, and very light and compact, the seats recline fully and would be great for a baby too.
Hope you find a good one. which mpv's you looking at? how many kids do you need to get in it?
sorry to crash the thread guys, hope you're all doing well
