stac not been on here all weekend, we were laughing at the gig friday thinking about what the baby has done b4 its even born, he loved the phonics and wouldnt stop kicking, we went tenerife, quad biking, jet skiing out at sea i passed my motorbike test and then 2 weeks after all that i found i was pregnant so he has lived a extreme life already!!! i love all their songs!! on the subject of dogs ive got one so ive been looking into introducing baby to him and ive seen on programmes and online to put a muslim square with the baby then if you dh goes home b4 you give it to the dog so he can smell the baby 1st. welcome needle it is strange how life changes, i too a year ago was living with my mum, didnt think i would be pregnant with our own lovely house a year on. on the sublect of pushchairs i saved £150 on my i candy by getting it from an independant rather than john lewis so its worth shopping around, im looking for a cot bed with a drop side and im struggling! mamas and papas all have fixed size, i dont fancy picking up a 1 year old out of the cot with fixed sides any ideas?

Firerise · 08/03/2010 20:41

Evening!

In bed already and catching up with all the chat! I'm such an old woman before my time!

KK & Stac - good luck on your scans this week and to anyone else who has one coming up!

Had mine today and all went well! They still couldn't tell me how the bicornulate uterus aspect will affect my pregnancy but as long as the baby is healthy and ok in there it's all good, will just have to see what the consultant says. Deliberately didn't find out the gender though both dh and I think we may have seen boy bits but really not sure! We have a real wriggler in there, it was so beautiful to see their little hands and feet and everything moving about!

Have to officially tell work when I want to start my mat leave but have no idea!!! I'm office based and thought about 2 weeks before my edd....does that sound reasonable? So hard to decide when you have no point of reference!!!

beckyg123 · 08/03/2010 20:45

Thanks MLIC i think people just keep rolling their eyes when i say i can't commit to thinks like hen nights and weekends away coz i don't know how things will be when baby arrives! Makes me feel like i'm overestimating the job of being a mum! However when i think about it most of my friends don't even have kids!!!

memphis welldone on the saving on icandy! fantastic! mine was a little cheaper from independent shop rather than john lewis but not that much! Also thanks for raising the question about cotbeds- i want to get a cotbed but hadn't even thought of the sides being fixed or not! will watch with interest!

memphis83 · 08/03/2010 20:53

becky im sure the cot bed makers think new mums dont need spines if they expect us to lift these toddlers out of cotbeds, i always look in john lewis but wont buy from there as i have a hatred for department stores as they take so much business from independent stores, was pleased with the saving i made but i also wanted the cosytoes and i have yet to see it cheaper than £72!!!! so most of the saving may be spent on that!!

stac14 · 08/03/2010 21:12

memphis sounds like baby will be a dare devil lol. The cotbeds we have looked at had height adjustable base, and drop sides that can eventually be removed they were in the glasgow pram centre. Also when lo is 1 they will probs be able to pull themself up to standing. Ds was climbing out of his not long after his first birthday lol

becky hopefully i can find out what i'm having. I'd love to come on wednesday so i'll ask tomorrow when i'm there, app is 3.40 i am taking ds too so he can see the baby.

firerise dont want to sound thick but is a bicorulate womb when you have 2 chambers? You could google it and see what it says. Glad scan went well hun

Just quickly before I head off to bed... Try Tutti Bambini for nice looking drop side cot beds.

I was looking at a cot bed from there before I realised I couldn't fit anything bigger than a cot in the nursery! I ended up going for one of their cots instead. I saw their products in person at the Baby Show and was happy with the quality. The workmanship seemed sound and the side mechanisms were straight forward but worked smoothly and could easily be operated with one hand (and a leg).

If you see a good model, there or anywhere else, it's worth using Google Shopping to check the prices at different stores though rather than buying direct. Lots of deals to be had!

memphis83 · 08/03/2010 21:34

stac i felt very guilty and worried i had done something to harm baby until the 1st scan but the extreme stuff went on hold as soon as i found out, ( apart from a few concerts here and there) ive seen on the cot beds that the bases rise and fall but according to the shops they have to be on the lowest level by 6 months! all this baby buying seems a minefield! im 6 months next week and as i have a problem with my hip and spine midwife has advised to get everything sorted by 7 months as bed rest may be forced!! good luck with the scan tomorrow!!!!

flexab23 · 08/03/2010 22:17

Evening all, Haven't been on here for a while after a nightmare week at work, my grandmother died on Friday after being unconscious for a week after a sudden stroke and our deadline for decision about our house purchase passed on Friday with still no answer on our offer - mega stressful and depressing.

To top it all off I fell out with my sister (we really know how to wind each other up) and my hormones got the better of me as I ended up sobbing like a wreck to my husband. Think he was a bit shocked but I'm feeling a bit more on control this week after deciding I can only do my best at work and its my boss's job to worry about my work after my mat leave starts. Stuff with my nana showed I need to put me, DH and baby first.

On the plus side Kings College where I am registered do internal scans to check risk of pre-eclampsia and preterm birth and happily had mine this afternoon and all normal so no increased risk. Was a bit worried about having scan but it was perfectly fine and we saw DD for last time until she's out in July! Still amazing just to hear the heart beat.

Also won a kari-me sling on ebay just now as hoping to use that in the early days to avoid lugging a pram around all the time so feeling organised too. Now just the house to sort, I've emailed the estate agent tonight to say we are retracting the offer if we don't hear anything from the vendor by end of the week so send me happy vibes please!

Hi to needles (I'm not always this whingey!) and everyone having their scans this week - good luck!

stac14 · 08/03/2010 22:27

flexab so sorry to hear about your grandmother hun, how are you? Rotten you have had such a crap time recently, hope you get sorted with your sister. Glad alls ok with lo. Sending loads of happy positive vibes for you, dh and lo(take care of yourselves)

memphis you shouldnt feel guilty its not as if you went out to do things when you knew you were pg and even if you did loads of active mums do it. Regarding the cot bed, its still worth thinking about the fact lo will be far more mobile quicker than we think hun

thanks for the info spireal I like the idea of the cot bed as ds has bunk beds due to step son staying at weekends and I dont feel the bunk beds are suitable for the baby

I am also applying for a new house, there is no way we will all fit in here once lo gets here, not sure on policies about ds sharing with lo but personally i think its unfair to him. Anyone have experience of this?

kkfairybrains · 08/03/2010 22:30

aw flex sorry to hear your having such a crap time of it and sorry about ur nana x. and fingers crossed you hear some good news from the vendor!
thanks fireise! glad to hear ur scan went well!
stac yeah im really excited! only 2 more sleeps! hope your lo is being good tomorrow and shows their bits!
im getting waxed in the morn and not looking forward to it! it does be very sensitive and swollen after i get it done since i got preg! but because of the pain im treating myself to a facial afterwards! cant remember the last time i had one so really looking forward to it!
dh thats crap that you stil have that damned cold. wish i had some advise for you but i dont! just keep drinking your lemon and honey and rest x

flexab23 · 08/03/2010 22:31

Thanks Stac - hope you find out the baby's sex this time!

Having a baby certainly gives you lots to do hey?!

Emster30 · 08/03/2010 22:55

Sorry to hear your news flex.

I'm one of the people having my scan this week, finally! It's on Friday - not too long to wait now. Not finding out the sex though.

I'm also debating when to stop work. I have a load of leave to use so I'm thinking of starting my mat leave on my due date but taking 4 weeks' annual leave before that, so finishing at 36 weeks. Some people have said I'll be bored at home, but I can't imagine that! It will (hopefully) be hot by then and I can't face cramming onto the tube in the heat when I'll be that big.

Conceivably I might change my mind and finish at 37 weeks but take a day off each week from 32 weeks instead - can't decide.

Actually it occurs to me that for the HR form I just need to say when I want to start my mat leave, not my annual leave, though my boss does want to know soonish.

stac14 · 08/03/2010 23:27

emster with ds i was supposed to work up to 38wks but started to get stressed with my work colleague who was overbearing and took it a couple of weeks earlier lol

Thanks firerise hope so too. Your right babys do give you lots to do

Good luck for us all having scans, emster bet your excited for your scan, it felt ages between 12wk and 20wk scans didnt it?

Is anyone going for a 3d scan? X

OP posts:
WickedWitchSouthWest · 08/03/2010 23:42

hiya ladies!

how's everyone getting on with scans and things? I've had a scan through but preggo brain dictates it's gone in one ear and out the other

Re mat leave, I had mine to start at 38 weeks with dd and took 2 weeks annual leave beforehand. This worked out pretty well for me coz I had my nesting from 36 to 38 weeks and then at 38 wks went into early labour which lasted til madam was born at 40+4! At that point I wasn't reall aware I was contracting, just felt shattered and achy all the time! Durrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. I had masses planned for my mat leave and didn't get to do much of it, but I certainly wasn't bored (sat in my comfy chair or on my ball watching daytime telly and dozing lol).

I have an icky tmi question, I'm 24 wks and getting loads of discharge...to the point that sometimes I have to change my knickers . It's white and egg white-ish or clear, no smell. One day I was actually worrying that my waters may be leaking it was so bad but baby is happy and kicking and it's not been like that since. Am I strange?!

Firerise · 09/03/2010 07:16

flex really sorry to hear your sad news about your grandma. Sounds like you have a lot going on at the mo but I'm sure the house and thing with your sister will come good soon x

stac you are right about bicornulate being two chambers. What we were trying to find out was because there is a v high likelyhood it will be prem could they tell us how much so by how much space is left in there....but no! It's anyones guess so counting down to 28 weeks when we will be able to relax a bit from that date on. Don't like googling it as all sorts of horrible statistics of live birth rates come up - we are chosing to ignore those!

It's good to hear everyones thoughts for may leave- I think I will see if I can bolt some holiday on the front or have a day off a week!

WWSW not sure about that one I'm afraid, but I'm sure it will be fine. Maybe call your midwife and see what they say?

Have a good day all x

Firerise · 09/03/2010 07:19

Meant mat leave...may is a bit early

Chulita · 09/03/2010 08:04

wwsw, I get that too. Not so bad this time but with DD I would be out shopping and have to run to the toilet thinking my waters had gone, it was scary at times but in my case it was just my fanjo working overtime. I still have it this time too so I reckon it must be the way my body deals with pregnancy!
memphis we have a cotbed for DD and we kept it on the highest setting til she was 7 months because she wasn't pulling herself up til late. We lowered it to the very bottom level when she was 10 months but by then they're standing/sitting up in the cot when you go to get them so you rarely have to bend all the way down. I just like it cos she should be able to use it for a few years yet.
flex, sorry about everything going wrong. Hope you hear about the house soon!
stac, yea, it'll be another base. Part of me wants to try abroad but the wimpy part doesn't want to try it with a newborn!
firerise, if it's any encouragement, there's a MNer who gave birth to twins in January at 23+4 and they're both still ticking along. She has a blog I can link for you if you like, they're soooo little! (not that I'm expecting you to have your LO at 23 wks!!)

stac14 · 09/03/2010 08:36

flex sent a reply to firerise instead of you, sorry hun.

firerise do they give you extra monitoring? Would you need to have a section? Sorry for questions just curious as a girl on a ttc thread i used to be on had one too.

chulita must be good and bad moving about so much, good as you see lots of places and people which would be great. Where's your options for moving?

Off on the school run, chat soon x

OP posts:
Chulita · 09/03/2010 08:57

DH has put in for Cyprus/Belgium/Edinburgh but someone is maybe poaching him for somewhere near Milton Keynes (so glamorous!) I'll be glad to move on from here, I hate it! But I really didn't want to leave Gloucester, I had lots of friends there, whereas here I have the grand total of 1...great!

memphis83 · 09/03/2010 09:33

thanks everyone for advice on cotbeds, that tutti bambini site looks the best option! wwsw my midwife brough that subject up last week which i though was strange as i didnt bring it up she said its totally normal after 20 weeks! stac ive just booked my 3d/4d scan this morning as i got an offer leaflet in my bounty pack, its booked for sunday 28th! hows everones bumps going? at my scan they were worried as i looked small now its grown a lot in last 2 weeks!! i love the bump but hate the huge boobs that have appeared with it!!!

stac14 · 09/03/2010 09:33

chulita cyprus and belguim sounds fab, milton keynes and edinburgh are pretty dull lol. Could dh not apply to go back to gloucester? Did you ask for your bump bag back? X

OP posts:
Chulita · 09/03/2010 09:39

DH was in Gloucester for 5 years so he wants something different. I was only there for 2 but two of my good friends have been posted on anyway so it would be a bit strange without them. DH just wants a job he enjoys and in Gloucester he did have to go to Iraq/Afghan twice a year which was draining!
DH has offered to get the bump bag back. I'm going to stop by on my way to the toddler group and see how she's doing, she's overdue now so probably pretty grumpy lol!

stac14 · 09/03/2010 09:48

memphis a friend got the 3d done, she had a dvd and everything. So seriously considering it. Is it a private scan or at the hospital? Also out of noseyness how much is it?

chulita did you say dh would be leaving army soon? X
