Jojobil · 07/03/2010 20:50

I think the longer you leave it, the harder it gets.. It took me a while too. And I have a hybrid car so don't feel as bad about driving when necessary

kapars · 07/03/2010 20:54

Hi ladies, welcome needle
Hope you've all had a lovely weekend.
Glad we're back on pram talk as still haven't decided but need to take dh to the shop with me as he is much more practical than me. Every shop I have been in the woman has recommended bugaboo as the best thing since sliced bread and my close friend with three kids and five prams says it's the best. But yes the price is rather high.
I've been having mostly happy hormones for a couple of weeks (since I had my scan) and getting very excited. But lots of teary moments in between...like this morning when dh said he may go on a work trip in JUNE!!! and I was like 'what do you mean - you can't go out the country in June, the baby might come early' and he was like 'no it won't' and I said 'but it might'. Then got all teary that he was going to leave me to go into labour on my own.
Which of course he won't. Sometimes men just don't get it.
Good luck with the scans this week ladies!

Jojobil · 07/03/2010 21:00

Kapars how long the trip would be for? Babies can very easily come between 36 and 42 weeks of pregnancy. It's a six week window and it is very rare for them to come exactly on due date... Even though often first pregnancies come late. So you are very right to be sensitive about that!

kapars · 07/03/2010 21:23

Thank you Jojobil. I think DH just hasn't got his head around this yet. It would only be for few days but it would be in South Africa!!! so he couldn't exactly nip back. There is no way he is going away - I won't let him. But it is exasperating that he thinks it would be ok.
I bought him the Blokes Guide to Pregnancy but he hasn't read one page (i read it, it is brilliant and very helpful for women to understand their partners).
None of dh's closest friends have children yet - his two best friends and their wives have been ttc for years. So he is very unfamiliar with the world of babies and all it entails.
Oh well I am sure he will get better....He is lovely and supportive most of the time!

viksam · 07/03/2010 21:30

Regarding the cat thing, i am really worried about that. I have two cats both very different tempraments, both inquisative and both with muddy feet, I do love them we have had them for over 8 years but things change and Im not sure how I will feel about them now.
Regarding the dog thing, I have a dachsunt who is absolutly ace in every way........except he gets really over excited so again im worried about him and the baby, the dog whisperer says to bring something smelling of baby back from the hospital too.
My husband has a really bad case of sickness and diareah, projectile vomiting, the works, we were up half the night last night and I had work today so im shattered now. He has gone off to bed and i dont think ill be far behind. Im really worried that Ill catch it, i do feel a bit upity but strangly with the opposite of diereah AGAIN!! Im back on the ginger ale again, looks like this will be my affliction!
I love the washing out on peoples lines, especially the baby things!!
I agree with who ever said we have time yet to get organised, I have loads i need to do......in fact the only thing i have dont is ordered the pushchair!! Done nothing in what will be the babies room, brought no clothes, nappies, bottles, cot etc, i think we are just all at different stages, i defo work better under pressure to so will just wait till that switch clicks and I'll be mad on doing it all then.
Monday tomorrow, another week begins, good luck to you all who have scans.....especially those who have a second scan..stac lets hope LO is legs akimbo this time xx

Emster30 · 07/03/2010 21:37

Needle, I'm in Walthamstow so not far either! I used to live in Crouch End until we wanted to buy - couldn't afford anything round there. I like Walthamstow though.

Dunno what to do about prams at all - my DH and MIL keep saying it's far too early to even think about looking, never mind deciding, never mind buying, but I'm so impatient!

20 weeks today - finally halfway through!

DeeLite · 08/03/2010 07:42

Congrats on being in the second half, Emster. I'm 22 weeks today and it really seems to be flying at the moment. I'm enjoying being pregnant so much though that I'm not wishing the next 18 weeks away but still very, very excited about July.

Wonderstuff, I am doing my driving test next month. I started learning about a year ago but had no practice as DH was working away from home and the car was never here so there was no point in putting me on the insurance. I started practising with him in November, had my test cancelled because of snow in December and have done really little driving since. Need to get back behind the wheel as I really need to pass in April. I'll be doing the nursery run when LO arrives and it will save me 20 minutes if I can do it by car. Fingers crossed.

DesperateHousewife21 · 08/03/2010 10:29

Hey all, I still cant seem to shift this cold, its now focusing on my throat, (sorry tmi) I had a blocked throat this morning and tried to cough it up but just ended up making myself heave and took all my might not to be sick.

Drinking hot honey and lemon seems to help but my honey has grown mould in the bottom of the jar ill have to go out and get some more.

Still its not all doom and gloom, Im now 21 weeks and lo is really active and ive got my mw appointment on wed and should hear his heartbeat again

Needle · 08/03/2010 12:20

kapars- my husband is a theatre director with a show at the Edinburgh festival every year. Our baby is due on 27th of July and he leaves on the 6th of August, for the whole of August, so I totally sympathise! At the moment my choices are: stay at home in London on my own with a newborn, or spend a month in Edingburgh in a caravan, with a newborn.

Emster30 -You really are just down the road! I'm 20 weeks tomorrow and I fully sympathise about wanting to do everything at once- I started knitting a baby blanket the day after I found out I was pregnant. (Admittedly three months down the line I've only finished 2 out of 20 patches!)

Jojobil · 08/03/2010 12:35

I think they want the best for us;) In our case we have our own company in Soho, but it's difficult to take time off... So I'm not looking forward to a summer with a 5 year old and newborn with no family around to help out...

DesperateHousewife21 · 08/03/2010 13:21

waiting for my dishwasher to finish to I can have a plate and make some lunch.

kapars · 08/03/2010 13:27

needle What are you going to do if your baby is late? Will you stay in London on your own then?

Chulita · 08/03/2010 13:39

Lol dh, if you'd washed it 'by hand' you wouldn't have to wait
I just had a lovely mixed salad with egg, cheese, olives and the like..yum! And, the big news here is that DD ate breakfast and lunch - first time in a week I'm a happy mum!
Scan on Wednesday, and now that DD seems to have kicked this virus, DH'll be able to come too!

Needle · 08/03/2010 13:42

We're not really sure yet kapars- I get a little frantic about it when I think about it. If the baby is late it will be during the school holidays, so my mum might have to come and stay with me until DH gets back. I'm praying that the baby comes a few weeks early so that I have a few weeks to get used to it, before heading North. We're not really sure what to do because Edingburgh is one of the most important shows of the year. Plus I'm the company wardrobe mistress, so really I need to be on hand anyway.

Meh, I'm sure it'll be fine. It's a baby, how hard can it be?!

Chulita · 08/03/2010 13:48
Grin
Jojobil · 08/03/2010 14:05

Ahem... Needle pls don't be upset with me. But I think you are in denial. Newborns are just not up for travelling. They need tons of nappies, babygrows and other equipment and are up at all times of day and night You really need to take it easy to start of with...

DesperateHousewife21 · 08/03/2010 14:11

chulita lol I know I forgot about the old fashioned way of washing by hand hehe. Ive now had a yummy scrambled egg on toast for lunch

Think I might have a little snooze now, hopefully it'll shift my cold if I rest more (thats my logic anyway!)

Needle · 08/03/2010 14:17

Jojobil- don't worry, I'm not upset, I know I'm being a little blase, but it's only becuase I really do panic alittle when I think about it. We wouldn't be travelling that much though- just living in one of those big mobile homes just outside the centre of Edingburgh for a month- easy walking distance of the big supermarket, with a little kitchen and bathroom- we used to holiday in one every year, so I know how they work. I know it's not ideal, but then people in travelling communities live in caravans all their lives...

No, if I'm being realistic, I know that it can't work, but DH has to go, if he doesn't we don't make any money this summer so I will probably end up living with my mother for a month

He's not exactly happy about it either, I feel I should defend him on that. He's really cross that his timing was so bad when LO was conceived!

Jojobil · 08/03/2010 14:24

Oh well ;) It will work itself out! 4 weeks is not that long. Just remember that with babies there is A LOT of washing... If you do go for the caravan...

Chulita · 08/03/2010 14:32

needle, 5 months down the line someone might ask you how hard a baby can actually be...
And we've got a similar problem with timing, we'd hoped for a May baby which would have worked well, as it is it looks like we'll be moving a week after 42 weeks...let's hope this LO doesn't hang about!

Jojobil · 08/03/2010 15:57

Also not sure how much sleep you DH will get... I remember having eyes like a panda even though my DD was very cheerful and a good sleeper comparing to other friends... Not meaning to freak anyone out. We are talking about little munchkins who sleep a lot, but also wake up a lot for feeding etc.. and don't appreciate crowds. Although they all have different personalities and you never know! Chulita fingers crossed baba comes before and all goes smoothly. x

Jojobil · 08/03/2010 16:20

I think I am going to make some fresh hot cross buns... No wonder I ballooned from a size 12 to a size 16 already....

stac14 · 08/03/2010 20:09

hi ladies, how are you today? viksam defo for legs akimbo tomorrow lol

chulita glad dd is feeling better, are you moving to another base?

beckyg123 · 08/03/2010 20:20

mmm... jojo i just ate a delicious hotcross bun! thanks for reminding me we had some... not the same as your homemade ones i'm sure! How did they turn out?

Been away for weekend as it was my grans 75th birthday. I'm off work this week- supposed to be writting an essay but today i have cleaned the spare room, done 2 washes, made a nice curry for dinner, walked the dog and written a tiny bit of essay! Hopefully tomorrow will be better!

Not caught up properly on thread yet but scanned through. stac and violet the exercise classes are starting at PRM this wednesday at 1pm. I am definately going to go. Hoping to get back into aquafit this week too as been really lost the plot with exercise over last few weeks.

Hey needle welcome to the thread. Been having a good chuckle at the talk of how hard can a baby be! I am also a first timer and sometimes think i'm over estimating how much work will be involved! Have made no plans at all for months after due date and made DH take 4 weeks off work to help!

My bump is feeling really heavy just now, lo seems to be using my bladder as a trampoline!

Hope everyone is doing well. Who all has scans this week? Good luck!

beckyg123 · 08/03/2010 20:24

Oooh stac what time is your scan tomorrow? Fingers crossed you get to find out sex!
