stac everything was fine on scan, had to go loo twice while waiting to go in and then nurse scanning said head was pushing on my bladder.... i didnt need a scan to tell me that one i bought one of those nappy bins i got a voucher that seems to be in most of pregnancy mags at the mo to get one under half price from argos. they seem a good idea as i have a dog 2!! kkfairy i too have a partner that is being very good at sorting finances since baby announcment but his friends all think its my doing for stealing him away from them!! spirael i would have been happy either way with my scan but if i had a girl im such a tomboy i started having nightmares on how i would cope if my girl would love pink and princesses, is anyone having lack of appetite? i am waiting for the wanting to eat everything in sight but its not happened yet!!!

memphis83 · 28/02/2010 12:37

wonderstuff glad you said that about the sainbury eco nappies ive been stocking up on them after hoping they would ease my mind about not using reusables and the chemicals in normal nappies

viksam · 28/02/2010 17:54

chulita Did you go to Weymouth on sat, did u go in TK Maxx, i was quite impressed with some of the baby stuff, i quite fancy the Tommy Tippie stealizer and bottles, i went into boots and saw it all at full price so that would have been a good buy but i dont really know what im buying yet so no purchaces made yesterday. I want to breast feed but also pump and bottle feed to give me at least some freedom, has anyone got any experience of doing this, im sure i remember someone saying something about it before. stac i really didnt mean to come across as horrid about the infertility threads at all, and they did really help for a while but I found in the end that I had to deal with it and come to terms with it in my own way. spiders I shall be going to Poole on Friday for work, any good shops i could check out? I brought some maternity work trousers and a jumper for work from Red Herring in debenhams on sat, not quite big enough for both yet but probably will be in a few weeks, could really do with some casual bottoms now. Good luck to everyone having scans this week, when i was out looking at clothes on sat i did kind of wish i had found out the sex but we didnt, so i guess we have to live with that decision. Maybe we could add the sex onto the chart so we can see the split??

stac14 · 28/02/2010 17:54

Hi memphis thats good alls fine at your scan

We went to halfords and motehercare about out car chair, turns out there is a few we can choose from and the girl who helped us in the first place wasnt properly trained, so I was panicking for nothing. I can have my maxi cosi whit the base yay

What have you all been up to today? I have my pj's on already and waiting for my the chicken to cook, dp is supposed to be going to the golf range tonight but dont think he will go, his friend is a bit upset about the footy lol

Scan tomorrow at 11.30, excited and nervous, hoping alls ok as got the bloods back for downs and spina bifda and we were low risk and all was fine at 12weeks. Did you all feel like that? xx

stac14 · 28/02/2010 17:58

sprry viksam we cross posted, didnt think you were being horrid at all, I think I just needed the extra support of the threads at the time, although i would come away at times due to low mood and things. I fancy the tommy tippee bottles as I'm not breast feeding and they seem to be the one everyones advising as the next best thing to a nipple. I saw them in TK maxx too but friend is buying my steriliser so I will talk to her about it when I see her. Also argos is doing 6 of the bottles for £10 xx

flexab23 · 28/02/2010 18:56

stac14 check out the deals on Toppee Tippee stuff at ?/Nr.99.aspx" REL="nofollow" >Tesco.

I got my steriliser half price from Asda and then Sainsburys were doing all the range half price so went a bit mad and bought most things! Figured I could sell them on ebay if I don't end up using them.

I'm after a deal on the medela swing electric breast pump - any second timers used this model? It seems to get good reviews but keep losing out on ebay. Let me know if anyone spies a discount!

Need to give the spending a rest now as my wages have now flown out the door after getting paid on Friday but feeling pretty organised! I think that is what is helping me feel in control of this pregnancy - filling our flat with baby stuff!!

Hello all, just been away to the inlaws for the weekend. am shattered now! 19 weeks today, only a week until the halfway point.

Jojobil · 28/02/2010 19:24

Has anyone else had a c-section before? I was supposed to have a home delivery but ended up with a emergency c-section... Because my daughter was 9.11.. I can already feel that this boy here will be a good size baby and the two girls I know who were in the same position ended up with big babies second/third time round and had caesarians again. I had a meeting with a doctor, but she just treated me like a piece of meat saying they recommend natural labour. Which I am prepared to consider. I just don't want to be in the same situation as the first time round... Nearly 2 weeks after the due date, 18 hour labour ending with a c-section... I think I would be better of having a scheduled one. Sorry those of you who are first time pregnant I don't mean to moan . Just 22 weeks now and thinking of all those things...

Hi all
flexab23 you need a [[ on either side to hyperlink!

MLIC sorry that you are down about your house - maybe your dh will change his mind after the baby arrives? We are in a 2 bed atm and I really don't want to have to move, but we are renting and buying would make sense, esp. as FIL is offering to help us out. He is turning 70 soon and his health is not what it was, he wants us to have some money now so inheritance tax isn't payable! Is all a bit morbid, but prob sensible, dh and I think at some point mil will have to move in with us. Horrid having to plan for these things...

I used Tommy Tippee for a while when I was mix feeding dd - she seemed ok with them, but I didn't try any others. I got them because I liked the Tommy Tipee manual pump - only draw back was the tops are really tight and difficult to put on properly. I also used the Meldela electic pump - not the swing one the little one - it did the job but was REALLY noisy - couldn't watch telly or hold a conversation using it. I am planning to pump at work as will be going back when lo is only 6mo (which will be totally fine right?) but I would be scared using the electric pump because of the noise. Manual pumping seems more effective but is hard work after a while. I would say to anyone wanting to mix feed start early, they say wait until 4 weeks to establish bfing but I would say you need to introduce a bottle soon after that - definitly by 2 months and you need to keep it up - we stopped the bottle for a while and tried to reintroduce it after a few weeks and dd was having none of it, she also refused a dummy after 4 months so was very boob dependent - which really wasn't the end of the world, time goes so quickly when they are little I didn't mind but I would like the next one to be able to use the bottle. Can anyone recommend any quiet electric pumps?

BettyButterknife · 28/02/2010 20:00

Hi everyone, long time no see!

Glad you're talking about bottles... I used the Tommy Tippee ones with DS and would consider using them again, although I hated the breast pump - I found it quite painful! I also used the MAM bottles, and Nuk ones too. I'll probably end up using a combination again, depending on how far I get with bf this time round, although I'm not averse to trying to do mixed feeding again but keeping it up longer.

Went for our scan last Wednesday but LO was being very uncooperative - hope this isn't indicative of a difficult child! - and ultrasound operator wasn't able to measure the heart and lungs. AND the cord was between LO's legs!

So we're back in tomorrow for another go, and hoping to find out whether it's a boy or a girl. Wish me luck!

WhatSheSaid · 28/02/2010 20:01

Just quickly scanned messages...

Jojobil I had an emer c/s with dd - because she was in distress and not getting enough oxygen. As far as I know, once you've had one c/s you are entitled to ask for another one for your next birth. I think drs/hospitals are trying to encourage VBACs now as c/s rates are quite high. My mw keeps going on about VBACs to me even though I've made it clear to her several times that I think an elective c/s is probably the way to go for me.

Because I have high blood pressure the pg is classed as high-risk so even if I went into labour, I think if the slightest thing started to look dodgy they would want me to have a c/s straight away. So I don't really see the point of going through labour again when there's a high chance I'll end up with another emer c/s - may as well just go straight to the c/s!

If you stick to your guns you should be able to get an elective c/s. I know 2 people who have had a VBAC for second birth after emer c/s first time round and they both said they preferred the c/s! They may just have been unlucky though - plenty of people (especially on MN) seem to have good experiences with VBACs. But just keep insisting, if it's what you want - I will be.

stac14 · 28/02/2010 20:24

jojobil ds was 10lb 6 delivered using ventouse cap, i voiced my concerns bout having a bigger baby this time and i was told i would be fine and they are happier with bigger babies. Also read mw are encouraging vbac at the moment, best check at next app.

betty i'm in tomorrow for mine too, do you want to know what your having? I do, and hoping lo shows us lol x

Jojobil · 28/02/2010 20:30

Thank you WhatShe I think after being so pro giving birth naturally at home and having the experience I have had it seems like the best way to go for us. Even though there are cons, like it takes longer to heal and be back on track. I might wait for my 30 week scan and see how big he is. But will definitely stick to my guns if he is!

Jojobil · 28/02/2010 20:33

Good for you stac 10.6 is a big boy! My DS had a large head, maybe it's to do with that as well. I guess we will have to wait and see...

memphis83 · 28/02/2010 20:49

to all who want the tommee tippee bottles and are looking for the extras tesco are doing the travel bottle warmer which had the water flask in it for 4.99 and the electric one for 9.99 mothercare also have the insulator bags/cool bag for the bottles a 1/3 off for 6.99, having to shop for baby stuff really makes you an avid bargain hunter dont you think??

stac14 · 28/02/2010 21:01

jojo I am bricking it lol, if your 2nd is meant to be bigger what size am I getting this time?

thanks for the info memphis

Jojobil · 28/02/2010 21:13

Boys are supposed to be bigger then girls, which one are you having now stac?

GlastonburyGoddess · 28/02/2010 21:14

Havent been on since friday so trying to catch up!

Spirael- Lol about the tiny muddy footprints! Had a major cleaning spree on Friday as dp took day off to assist, wiped down surfaces in the porch and low and betide, 5 mins later found muddy footprints all over the worktops, so feel your pain!

stac14- Whats this about a pampers hamper, how do you get it?

flexab23- Don?t feel bad about being a little dissapointed with baby being a girl. With ds1&2 I thought I was having a girl and with ds2 I was a little dissapointed for a few seconds after he was born, hes lovely now though and I wouldn?t change him for the world, but you cant help how you feel

Beanlet-Welcome to the thread

Wonderstuff-sorry you had a bad night the other night, don?t worry about moaning, I think we all do our fair share on here and things are always worse when your feeling under the weather and have had little/no sleep x

MyLifeIsChaotic-Ive been buying a couple of packs of nappies too, don?t know how im going to cope in july-Ill have one in newborns, one in pullups at night and one in drynites ahhhh, bloomin expensive eh!

Wonderstuff- I cant recommend a quiet pump, but I had a Ameda dual lactaline and it was fab, sold it on ebay about 6 months ago so will have to get looking for another!

Used the tommee tippee wide neck bottles with ds2 after about 6months, found them good and he fed well from them, with ds1 he had very bad colic+reflux so ended up forking out loads on dr browns( mc/be frees are they called now??) would definitely recommend wide neck bottles though as opposed to slim ones as they are a pita to clean.

with nappies the only ones Ive ever found to be great are pampers. tried huggies when ds1 was born but found they didnt fit very well, with ds2 used them a few times, but after buying huggies aloe vera wipes they literally burnt his skin on his bum and he ended up with a blistering burn I then steered well clear of everything huggies!(until recently as ds1 wears huggies drynites as they do ones from 7-15yrs)
tried tescos ones as my friends have all used them, but again found he was wringing wet in the morning and they exploded crystals all over ds and the bed so gave up with those too!!
I think if its your first baby, its literally trial and error with nappies, try different brands and see how you get on!

Have had a mad weekend, dp took day off friday and we blitzed the house so that was helpful, although come saturday 3am I woke up for a pee and nrly wet the bed as it felt like my lower back had fused-obviously Id overdone it.
saturday we had our nephew with us as sil+bil had to attend a meeting about fire safety for the festival this year. He was a horror and I was quite releived that I got to hand him back at 2pm!

Was supposed to be working a late shift tonight but had to ring the on call and explain I physically couldnt manage it, to my relief she actually knew what spd id and knew someone that had it so that meant I didnt have to explain it all-funny thing was she didnt even realise I was pregnant! bloody office!
The codiene is not working and today I took 4 again, so 120mg, bit worried about this as that means 2000mg paracetomol which Im not sure thats very good, will have to ring up gp again tommorrow and explain as Ive actually had 6 hours PAIN FREE!!! since taking it, but obviously dont want to hurt the baby.

My car had to go in early sat morning as I ragged it round the roundabout in 1st on the way to pick up dp on thursday and blew the exhaust. when i picked it up the chap had already gone home so I havent yet discovered the financial dent thats going to make in my purse-will find out tommorrow morning-ouch!

hope everyones had a good weekend-albeit a wet one for most!

GlastonburyGoddess · 28/02/2010 21:16

stac just seen your msg above- not nescessarily- ds1 was 8lb 13oz, ds2 was 7lb 15oz! Im hoping this one will go down again!

Jojobil · 28/02/2010 21:41

Was ds2 earlier then the other Glaston?
